Your link is for the "GTX". "GTS" is what ours have.

But it says power consumption is the same, probably due to extra ram.

As far as displays go, the 7811 I had was an AU Optronics while my current 7805 has an LG panel. Otherwise tech differences between the two seem to only be increased GPU ram and larger hard drive although the drive is the WD Scorpio Black which I much prefer any Seagate.

So we have 2 different versions of the 7805 being distributed right now? One with an AUO panel and the other with an LG Panel? (Both doing 1900x1280).

    You sure yours is AUO?

BTW, how can I look at my 7811 and find out what type of panel it is (and if I go to the store at BB, how can I look at the 7805 and tell what type of panel it is)?

Got any extra QX9300's you can test out in them to see if they indeed support the quad? :)

Also let us know it it actually allows Overclocking on the x9100. Somthing besides stock would be nice for that gen of CPU

Ya im dying to know if we can stuff a quad in here or not so hopefully someone who may have one laying around will try and yes these machines do run much cooler then the old ones. I almost pulled the trigger on Qx9300 today but cant bring myself to do it until i know it works and dont really want to go wasting $$ on another dual core if the Quads will work.

Awaiting your results. Be careful, apparently there are a couple springs underneath the screws to the cpu heatpipe, if I remember correctly ( for the 7811).

do it... live up to your screen name... you know you want to... its so shiney
    [/devil]

If you get the QX9300 and it doesnt work you can always resale it. You probably wont even take a money hit if you get a decent deal.

Just sale it for what you paid + shipping and then make the buyer pay shipping.

    Win / Win

Plus we can find out if quads work :)

Well I sold the qx9300 so I won't be able to test it. I am pretty sure that it is not going to allow x9100 to overclock but I am more curious about the heating. Since the heatsink on this thing is not any different from the 7811, I don't think that it is a good idea to throw in a qx9300 into this machine. Especialy the heatsink has those corner marks where it touches the CPU which eventually will be hitting the cores in the quad core cpu worries me most. If you think that you can do a copper mod on the heatsink than your chances are greater with the quad but I wouldn't recommend it.

Well that stinks. For all the little upgrades and promises they never really do the important things.

I dont think they've really changed the heat sinks since the 6831.

Though with people getting cooler temps with the 7805 they might have done a small fan upgrade to a more efficent unit. but if your going to have to copper mod the heat sink just to make the quad "maybe" fit then thats just not really worth it.

I guess i'll be sticking it out for the mobile Core i7's after all. Wonder what that mobile quad extreme will be clocked at... i'm hoping 3.0ish :p

According to E-wrecked this CPU cooler is the one from the packardbell with the quadcore in it. again i dont feel like throwing around 700 bucks only to have to resell it, so ill just wait till some other brave soul gives it a whirl . Im very happy with the performance as is other then gta4, which is why i want the darn quad in the first place :) i get 65 fps on my desktop and would be happy to have half that on my laptop :)

yeah i understand that. Quad cores are nice... but still not happening for us :(

well to defend the notebook, your desktop is a decent bit more than twice as powerful as a 7805 :p

Can I ad raid 0 without re-installing vista 64?, if I can't, how to re-install without Vista disk?

Someone in this forum suggested as much benefit from just adding second hard drive and seperating os from programs/data and putting swap file somewhere, etc..can someone point me to that or make similar suggestion (can't find where I read it)?

    Thanks

i may just finds a t9600 cheap and throw that in there down the road as the x9100 not being OC able in these machines is sort of a waste as its only a couple hundred more mhz for a decent amount more $$, that is if the quads dont work :).

You can try to image the OS and reinstall it liek that. But the easiest and best way is to just do a clean install.
Doing it with out the disc... just borrow someones. Your serial number is an activation code. M$ doesnt care where you get the disc from its the sctivation codes they check to make sure your legit

No you wont get as much benefit from just adding a 2nd hard drive. All your getting there is more space. At that point your just dealing with the speed (or lack there of) of 2 drives and your not gaining the preformance boost RAID 0 will give you or the reliability that RAID 1 will give you.

that sir sounds like a good plan :)

I was able to find a 7805u at one of my local BB stores today, but had to pay $1149. They wouldn't price match the $1049 price from the receipt copy in one of the earlier posts. Oh well...I'm hoping it goes on sale prior to the 14 days....I've got 14 days to keep it, return it or sell it.

Apparently, these things are in short supply (as many of you have noticed) and from what I was told by the manager I spoke to, not all stores are getting them. Any of you Best Buy employees have any info on this? I'd like to get the straight truth on this model. I bought the last one out of the 6 stores within an hour and a half drive of my house and only a handfull showed in stock in all the New Enlgand stores combined.

The manager did let me open it up in the store to verify that the display was 1920x1200, but taped it up prior to me leaving so I wouldn't get dinged the 15% restocking fee if I don't keep it. This leads me to this question, If I open it up to test it out for a few days do you think I could sell it for what I paid? Here or on ebay? Not having a demo model to play with is a bit of a handicap...I'm upgrading from a 6864FX, so if I do keep the 7805u that one will go up for sale...

Well, just think of it as you have purchased it with a CA sales tax slapped on the $1049 price tag...

I missed the days of driving up to NH to save up on the sales tax...

All LCDs will look best at their native resolution. That is the only way to get direct 1:1 pixel mapping. Any other resolution will have to use interpolation to zoom-to-fit the screen and will result in a "fuzziness" that will be most apparent on small text. A driver update will not help.

Has anyone gotten this to work with wmodem on the HTC Apache (aka PPC-6700) yet? I tried loading the 64 bit drivers I found on the XDA forum:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288753

...but I couldn't get the computer to do the auto install by hooking up the PDA with the USB cable:

If anyone was successfull, please post some instructions. Thanks

I ran into a similar problem. I went to bestbuy Wednesday and they told me the price was 1049 but didn't have any in stock. When I went back today they had raised the price to 1149. Even worse, they swore up and down that the price had never been 1049.

I'm hoping it goes on sale again. And I'm also hoping that they'll all have the LG 1920x1200 screens lol. Oh well, we'll see what happens I guess.

Woot I got mine, drove 1 and 1/2 hours(though I did see some family after right near there at least) and now I am waiting for it to charge the 3 hours..do I really have to charge it that long? It ended up being 1,246 with tax...so hopefully it does have a sale and goes down to 1,050 again in the next 14days...so anyways, what mouse, cooling pad and bag should I get for it(mouse and pad can be crappy..as long as it works pretty well, won't be religiously gaming on it :p)

I am sure that BB will do a price adjustment for you if this goes on sale a posted above.

I charged mine while using it right out of thee box.

I think this batch of 7805u had the wuxga screen by mistake as the label on the box and the palm rest clearly states 1440x900 wxga. The 7811 was selling for 1399.99 with a smaller hd and older video card. There seems to be better cooling in this baby.

As Far as Charging, I would let it charge out of the box until it says 97% not charging, then unplug, let it drain to 15% then charge, it will goto 100% after you do that.
