If I just end process, won't it just come back the next time I start the lap?

edit: where can I find the temps of my cpu etc.? Should I just search for CPUID?

    Good news and bad news.

    Bad news first:

    X9100 causes a spike to 98C TZS0
    No overclock in the bios

    Good news:

TZS0 spike does not underclock the CPU, it keep running at the same clock speed.
Max temp after undervolting to 1.1125 at 11x is 67C in cores
Overclock to the GPU (710/960) got me a 3dmark06 of 10750 and this is not optimized at all (1280*1024). This machine may get upto 12K.

    Best news:

I'll try a P9600 tonight and will report back. I also have a T9800 but I'll keep that for a later date.

Thanks for the info and i guess its no biggie about the 98c TZS0 since its not throttling the CPU . Did you run it without using RM clock to see if it throttles or just when you undervolted ?.

Anyone have proof of the unconfirmed return of the 1049 price?

Also, what are the odds that all of them are 1920x1200? (just curious on your speculations)

Glad to hear you got yours Zak.
Well after playing around on it a bit i'm impressed.
By the way, I believe mine has the LG screen, well, this is what Device Manager says as the Hardware ID: MONITOR\LGD3901
    Pretty obvious that means LG.

Also, heres the GTAIVI benchmark I got.

These are the settings I love the most and looks fantastic (to me atleast)

    Statistics
    Average FPS: 26.61
    Duration: 37.17 sec
    CPU Usage: 96%
    System memory usage: 67%
    Video memory usage: 84%

    Graphics Settings
    Video Mode: 1152 x 864 (60 Hz)
    Texture Quality: High
    Render Quality: High
    View Distance: 50
    Detail Distance: 50

    Hardware
    Microsoft® Windows Vista" Home Premium
    Service Pack 1
Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS [Dox Optimised 180.84]
    Video Driver version: 180.84
Audio Adapter: Speakers (Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz

Also the Car Density is set to 100 (max) and the Shadow Density is at 11.

It runs smooth at that (Can bump up the Res more but it'll lag in cop chases and such, with the settings above its smooth through everything, 3car explosions, cop chases, power slides, etc)

All I'm using on the game is the game itself and the patch, no commandline.txt yet, don't know if I need it.

well i finally opened it up tonight and it was all going well, then i opened windows media player and played a song preloaded on the laptop. I stopped it, exited the program and got a blue screen which restarted my laptop. It hasn't happened again yet even after going through the same steps that produced it last time, should i bring it back and tell bestbuy or should i keep it and see if it happens again?

is anyone else having gpu driver problems with this thing? i tried to install dox 180.84 driver and i got a bunch of errors. i reverted back to my original drivers and now my screen is highly unstable. i was getting extremely high fps in games for a day (100 fps average with CS:Source video stress test) and then the next day the screen would turn black for 5 seconds and then return to the desktop saying I got a driver error or something. Now I'm being booted into safe mode and video drivers won't install.

Thanks Semi, loving the laptop, only thing that could be better is that sometimes it lets out a big air blow every once and a while, might've been I had it for high performance for my battery performance so it would drain quicker. I haven't heard it since I switched to balanced. Even the touch pad is good, though I definently want to pick up a mouse, any reccomendations for a cheap one(15-25) and a cooling pad for 15-25 too :)
edit: hmm..I wish we could have a post your P-7805u wallpaper thread, but I bet it would be locked :/

I would def return it. As they say electronic equipement usually shows signs of failure right away. My 360 had red light when I first opened it up and it worked after, 1 year later it came back permanently.

    Greetings!

Amid all of the excitement and being left out in the cold due to TigerDirect's debacle handling the P7811 fiasco I found this site, lurked here reading page after page I decided to go to my Local Best Buy here in California and see what was doin...

As soon as I arrived they asked me if I was "Kevin," the guy who called earlier? After I wrote down all of the particulars and after their 20 minute search one of the CSR's came out with the P7805, complete with LG panel. Not sure about the 1080p screen but I think this is what it is.

I was able to get A 10% discount after they opened the box for me about 5 days ago. I'm glad to be here and thanks for being here!

I am 99% sure that all desktop monitors/laptop screens are 1080p..also I think 1900x1200 would make it a bit above 1080p

Well, yeah I meant 1920X1080 but the screen as you said is 1900X1200...

However ALL laptops and desktops are Not 1080p or higher.

1280X800 is roughly the norm unless you're talking about the 1440X900, and even then it falls short. I mean 1280X800 is closer to 1366X768-720P.

typically widescreen computer monitors are 16:10 aspect ratio while HDTVs are 16:9.

1080p refers to 1920x1080 and there are only a few laptops i have seen with that native resolution. WUXGA is 1920x1200

    Hello,

Could someone tell me the exact dimension of the box of the laptop and its weight?
Do i need to have another bigger foam box or the normal box will suffice for shipping?
What is the best way to send from US to Canada?

    Thx so much.

use USPS and mark it as a "gift" and also do not put the 'full" value or else you would have to pay lots of $$.. UPS, Fedex, DHL and etc charges an extraordinarily high brokerage fees, therefore, they are not an option

I think I'll need to get some insurance for it. I don't want to take a chance.

still... use USPS tho... I've sent items to Canadian buyers before... all opted for USPS due to insane brokerage fees charged by UPS, FedEx and etc.... Good luck bro.. I am still waiting for one of these babies as well, my bestbuy is supposed to get 5 of these

    Hey everyone,
Got my 7805u on the 29th when it was still $1050 and so far I'm very pleased with it.

So far I've only found two flaws.
The first one is a stuck pixel, but you really have to look hard to see it. Of course, once you know it's there, it kindda bugs you and you wish you hadn't seen it in the first place. It looks like it might be a blue pixel since that's when you can notice it the most.
The second one is the one I was more concerned about and I was wondering whether any of you have noticed it on your laptops.
I've noticed that when the fan on the RHS turns on it makes a ringing/hissing noise. It's like a subtle hissing and it only comes on when the right fan turns on, whereas with the left fan, all you hear is the fan spinning and the air circulation.
So have you guys noticed that subtle ringing/hissing?
    Is it normal?
I'm debating whether I should return it, but I wouldn't want to get stuck with one that might have the lower resolution screen.
    What do you guys think?

    thanks

For those in the Silicon Valley area, I was at the San Carlos BB today. They were in the process of setting up their floor model of the 7805. I did not see any unopened boxes in the case immediately under the display area, but it is likely there were some hiding somewhere in the store.

got mine the other day for 1049. took them about 20mins to decide if they were going to sell it or not. when they did it rang up as 1149, decided to push my luck and told them that the other BB (which only had a display model) showed the price as 1049, 10 more mins later and them calling the other stores and i got mine.they only had 1 and it was going to be their display model so didnt want to honk them off to much.

would have paid 1149 but was hoping to get it cheaper. they did not want to sell it for 1049 and it took me meekly arguing with them a bit to get them to call the other store for the price and then decide to sell it. manager told me that 1049 was the "special" release price an the reg was 1149, dunno if that true however, but i do expect the price to change (probably going up considering whats in this thing).

the only thing i dont like about it sofar is the labelflash simply because i cannot seem to find the disks anywhere.

Yeah mine has a short burst every 5-8min too, but I really don't notice it because whenever I'm on I'm usually playing CoD4 (Like right now I have CoD4 at the bottom and all I hear is guns shooting, no fan/air/anything else.)
Speakers are pretty decent on this.
And I can definitely see why you want another mouse, because I do too.
The left click is very loud and feels really cheep when you push it on the right ( the right of the leftclick) but when you push the upper left side of the left click it sounds normal.
I'd like to know which cooler people recommend too since this is my first 17inch laptop...

I'll be installing Crysis tonight probably.
Installed Left 4 Dead earlier and of course it runs flawlessly on that :p

One thing I noticed though.. the Power Brick.. It seems to make this Hissing noise that you can only hear when your ears close to it, doesn't have to be directly on it, but id say maybe 7inches away from the brick and you can hear it.
    Anyone else hear that?

The best buy add for Iowa City, Iowa Has this listed as $1049.99 This is really really tempting.

Intel core 2 duo P8400, Windows vista premium, 4gb ddr3 memory, 320GB RPM hard drive, Nvidia Geforce 9800M GTS 1gb DDR3. P-7805U-9172511. No mention of screen res.

Thanks for the work and benching alitunay, too bad there is still no overclocking available and the TZ still goes a bit haywire.

I guess we'll never get an FX that will break the 3ghz mark unless the cores natively run there. (heres to hoping for a 5gHz nehalem quad core :p )

All in all though the 7805 seems to be a solid machine. a few hundred less than the 7811 (and 68xx class for that matter) and still great specs.

Has anyone noticed that on CPU-Z, under the memory tab it says it's type: DDR2 and channels #: dual,
while in the SPD tab it lists it as DDR3?
Is that just a discrepancy or what?
Also, isn't DDR3 suppose to be triple channel? Or does it come in both dual and triple configurations?

So has anyone else noticed that hissing/ringing sound whenever the fan on the right hand side turns on or is it just my laptop?
It has become more noticeable now.
    Anyone?

Last night I ran an extreme overclock with the P9600 and and got 11.7K 3dmark06. And again this is with P9600. As I said before if you can cool it down, you can break 12K with this machine.

    good job on the 3dmark.

The t9800 is the superior CPU to run in the 78XX class of FX i think. the X9100 seems cool, but with the 2.93 clock and the lower TDP the t9800 kicks alot of ***.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3
Its still dual channel RAM its just the 3rd gemeration of it.

That's this coming week's ad? I have to make sure because I'm about ready to go snag one of these. I didn't see a date in those pictures and my store keeps telling me they were "on sale" last week.

It might have been on sale last week, but it wasn't in the ad. It's not even supposed to be available to sell until tomorrow. Earlier in the thread it's been stated that the 'on the street' date is 1/4/09. You can't even find it listed on BB's website yet.

I'll be going back tomorrow to collect my $100 refund which I'm sure will just be spent on something else before I leave. The place is dangerous!

Correct. I pulled the add out of this mornings paper. The prices in the adds run from sunday to sunday. Looks like the idea of it going back on sale as soon as it was officially released was true.

Gateway will send you the power brick first, then you ship the old hissy one back to them.

Is there any other deal along with it, like a free game or something?

    Greets everyone...
@alitunay: I was wondering if you also tried flashing your BIOS to 9.12 before determining that OC'ing the X9100 wasn't supported on the 7805u......

I just noticed the P-7805u is missing the button next to the power button, this button is the on that starts Media Center, I guess its its no big deal, but it is the only Physical difference I have seen with all the FX models.
