    Hello again,

Please to those who got the laptop:
Could someone tell me the exact dimension of the box of the laptop and its weight
    ?
Do i need to have another bigger foam box or the normal box will suffice for shipping?

    Thx so much.

** Thing is I have to ask someone to get it, then boxe it u and ship to CAN. And my other half keep bugging not to jump on this b/c it's too much trouble. But this is the best deal I ever saw for such specs.

*** Thx so much Jeremyp111 only 14 ibs?... that's a lot lighter than what I expected for a 17". which is pretty good.

Has anyone done a full review of this laptop? It would help me with making my decision.

If not perhaps the few who own this laptop can answer a couple of questions.

    1. How is the keyboard? Any flex?

    2. How is gateway support? So far nobody is a real standout in the market.

    3. And most importantly, do you like it?

    Thank you.

The dimensions are 19"x14.5"x6.5" and it weights 14 lbs.

The box it comes in is sturdy enough for shipping without having to put it in another box. Just a little added tape is needed.

I would get it personally...don't have a thing I really don't like about it...though this is my first laptop, but so far it is great, I downloaded the CoD 4 demo and played it on everything high...the screen is pretty good, I am sure it would be better if I had the LG screen, but I got the AUO, looks like someone smeared grease across it if I am on these forums...

I just checked out the machine at my local bestbuy (Brooklyn, Ohio). They let me open one up to check it out but it was the AUO screen. I told myself I would only buy it if it was the LG lol. Trying to get the most for my dollar as it were.

Could the people who know which screen they have post that and the batch number of their 7805?

I'd like to know if there's a way to tell externally what screen is in there. Maybe we can figure out which batches and what locations, etc etc.

    Thanks.

Same as the other FX guides... gateway hasnt really changed the design since the 6831.

Flip it over, un screw the large middle plate, un screw the heat sink (be careful with the thermal pads) unlock the CPU, remove it.

Then all steps in reverse to get it back on.

Just be sure to take care with the heat sink and when seating the CPU (and get some good thermal paste)

Its really a easy job. I swapped my t5550 for my x9000 in 10 minutes and i ate a tomato sandwich after i had removed my old CPU (cause i was hungry and to waste time)

    I see...thanks. :)

I built a core i7 desktop recently and the corsair memory I got said triple channel. Also, during most of my research, I kept reading DDR3 and triple channel, so I assumed all DDR3 was triple channel.

Any AUO batch numbers out there?

This is a great idea -- I hope it helps identify LG screen models without having to open the box. My BB will let me do that only AFTER I've paid for the unit, so I'm at risk of paying a restocking fee if I get an AUO and want to return it.

Thanks all for the super info and advice in this thread.

My 7805u has an AUO screen and the batch number is H358631. The BB where I bought mine let me open it up to verify that it had the 1920x1200 screen. They taped it back up for me before I left so I wouldn't get dinged the restocking fee if I returned it.

First post here at notebookreview! :)

I just wanna say thanks to all the information all of you have provided in this forum. I was lucky enough to get one of the incorrect spec'd p-7805u's and I'm loving it.

Except for one thing... I can't seem to find a dang backpack to fit this thing with the battery still on. Any suggestions? I apologize in advance if this has already been asked.

Looking back i now see a trend. Our little forum is being used.

Everytime theres a new Gateway laptop released we get TONS of new people swarming all over the place and then all the sudden they disappear.

its slightly depressing. We good enough for info, but not to just hang out with
    :p

At least this laptops mad dash has been contained in this post.... unlike a certain other 78xx model release (yes i'm talking about you 7811 owners :p )

oh well welcome to the forums all the new people :D

I just wish I knew of the laptop before christmas...I left a day after christmas to family friends' house and I ended up having to call and call and call everywhere to find one until yesterday when I drove 1 and a half hours to pick mine up for the increased price...I just hope it comes down though so I can get some money back :). By the way I am here to stay as long as the topics keep interesting :D

The memory controller built into the Core i7 CPU has 3 memory channels each of which can control 2 DIMM slots. It is a function of the memory controller, not the memory. The memory controller in the 7805 (the Intel PM45 chipset) has only 2 channels, each of which controls a single memory slot.

Looks like the batch numbers are all over the place so it may not be a good reference.

On a side note, it sounds like these ARE suppose to have the 1920X1200 resolution and the 1440X900 is just a typo, which is good.
I spoke to one of the BB sales sales rep and he said on the last one they sold yesterday it said 1920X1200 on the box.
He also said that the FX series has been steadily going down in price so it's no surprise that the price of the current iteration is $1150. The lower price of the current FX laptops apparently doesn't have anything to do with lower resolution screens...they're still suppose to be 1920X1200.
Time will tell if that is in fact the case.

    Cool, thanks for clarifying.

Well, that goes to show you no matter how much research you do in preparation for a build, you're bound to miss a few technical details here and there.

If that's the case (they are supposed to have the 1920x1200 screens), I feel bad for the people that bought the computer 2nd hand, and I don't feel bad for those who went out to buy it early so they could resell it higher on ebay or craigslist. Both those guys got screwed.

I'm wishing I didn't buy the 7811 now though...Stupid Gateway. I could have waited 3 more months and had 512mb more video ram. ARGH.

The extra VRAM is likely a hinderence, not a blessing. Your system will allocate memory for video, which can be accessed faster than the on board ram. I'm not getting deep into explanations but there is not a benefit to the one gig vs. 512 MB. Quite possibly you will see a decrease in performance and overclocking ability. Just an FYI.

nice results. do yourself a favor and go to the matrix storage manager console and right click (i believe on the volume itself) and enable write-back cache, and you'll see your burst rate go up.

also, are you using 7200rpm drives or 5400?

Lies, you won't see a decrease in performance, but there won't be a big increase either cause no game out there uses that much memory.

Hey guys, I got my 7805 today. I've been looking for a laptop for a while now and I doubt I could have gotten what I got today from any other brand. I love Gateway. LOL. Anyways I found this on my own from the best buy advertisment in the paper. I was about to start a new thread for this but props to you guys for finding it so early. I was so shocked by the price and so was the geek squad guy who bought this one as soon as it came out. I love this lappy so far. I believe I made a good decision by taking it over the dv5t but I do wish this had a Blu ray drive. Anyways, if there is anything I can do to help, just let me know.

Hi, sorry to be a noob, but I was at the Best Buy in West Dundee, IL today and checked device manager in the OS on the display model P7805u that was there. I could not determine what the manufacturer of the LCD panel is. How do you find out this info after you have opened the box? Thanks.
\BTW, the price was $1149. 2 reps said the price was never $1049. I will watch for tomorrows add.

Also, one other question. I do alot of emulation, i.e. MAME, Dreamcast, ect so I need raw horspower. I also load ISOs ect too and run lots of apps that may or may not be 64bit acceptable. I think I would rather go 32bit vista ultimate. Is that a good choice? Or is this OS (stock OS) the best way to go.
    Thanks again.

Hello everyone... is anyone able to help me?
I just obtained this laptop, and I would love it, but I think there's a problem.

I've installed Team Fortress 2, have everything set to high with 8x anti aliasing, and my frame rate is good when I'm standing still (somewhere around 30-60) when I'm standing still, but whenever I move my mouse, the frame rate drops pretty drastically. If I move around with just the keyboard, this does not happen. I want to know if something is wrong with my laptop? I also get some lag/ choppiness when I view HD videos on Youtube and Vimeo... but only when it's in full screen. With all of it's power, I don't believe any of this should be happening, should I have it replaced?

Also, what is everything with the different screen resolutions? Mine has the 1920x1200 resolution... was this a mistake? If I was to exchange this for a new 7805u, could I get the 1440 screen, and, if so, what can I do about it? It doesn't seem fair to receive a higher res screen but then have it exchanged for one of a lower resolution.

    Thank you!

ATTENTION!!! If you paid $1149.99 for your 7805, go back to Best Buy with your receipt sometime this week (Jan 4 - Jan 10) to receive a price match for the $1049.99 sale price!

lol I know BB workers get the ads earlier. I work at cvs and I always get to see the ads 1 week ahead of time but slickdeals usually gets them in 2-3 weeks ahead of time.

But really this laptop is a great deal. This laptop is a lot better than the 6831fx I have. I'm really envious even after buying the 6831 for 700

    Yar Pirate,

You might try cleaning your computer of any running bloatware processes and also install the newest official nvidia drivers for the 9800gts. they can be found at nvidia.com.

TF2 isn't very graphically intense and your symptoms suggest it's probably pre-installed garbage slowing down your machine. TF2 does push processors pretty hard and isn't well optimized for dual cores (changing soon).
