Thanks, can't believe I forgot about it, just to think I was just ranting about the function keys..though they could just have it on the right side, can't stand trying to go for control and hit fN :/, though I guess I could find a way to make that fN=cntrl as well.

I just got my p-7805u in Corpus Christi TX for $1,149.99 + 8.25% tax which Total came to $1,244.86
I saw some post where people bought it for much less than I did. Do you guys think I overpaid?
Is there any way so that I can get the introductory price that is $100 lower?

if you go back to bestbuy with reciept in hand, they will pricematch the laptop to what they have it on sale for now. ($1049+tax) sale starts tomorrow Jan 4th and goes till saturday.

I also paid $1,149 plus tax tonight (in Wisconsin). BB will price match and this is going on sale tomorrow for $1,049 -- just take your receipt back to the store and BB will give you a refund of $100 plus tax. That's what I'm going to do, per a couple of helpful BB employees -- BTW, the BB employees who helped me were terrific.

Alright, that sounds good. I told the girl like, "Oh in other places they are selling it for like $100" She looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. Theres another thread here that shows what batch numbers correspond to LG or AUO. So im guessing that a bestbuy employee can search by batch number? I got an AUO and if I can im going to switch it for an LG. The display model had an LG and for some reason it just looked better to me.

Control Panel / Personalization / Click on Display Settings / Click on Advanced Settings / Monitor Tab / Properties / Details Tab / Change option to Hardware lds . Should come up as "MONITOR\*******" Then look whats after the \ . Mine says AUO1088 .

    *on a side note*
This is a pretty good laptop. I was originally looking for a 15.4" and was going to get the m15x but I saw threads about this and for the price its unbeatable (Unless a refurb 7811 from tigerdirect :( ) .
Im just going to have to buy a new laptop bag because this thing is pretty heavy. Being in the Navy I need something portable but what can I say, the price seduced me :p

    Hey guys,

I have a tigerdirect P-7811 FX series coming in. Bought from a kind soul on NBR at cost (just have to pay shipping and PP cost). It's kind of a fair price. Now I am confused if I should keep the 7811 and buy the 7805 or have both (kind of hard to have both :p ).

thanks and have a good day.

It really depends on what you think you'd get if you sold the 7811. Personally, I bought the 7811 in September for 1150 and am having the same dilema now. However, I decided against getting the 7805 and selling the 7811 because I'd be taking a hit of $100 for just some extra vram (besides all the hassel of trying to sell it). Keep the 7811, it's a good machine.

I picked up one today in Staten Island , NY. I'm pretty sure it was the last one in the NY area. They are expecting more this coming tuesday.

So far, so good. At first, i thought it was too big, but im now used to the larger screen.

What's the battery life on these things?

I am in the exact same dilemma. it's a hassle to sell the item on ebay and not really nice trying to sell a computer someone just sold you at cost for a profit or anything more. Also, is the 7805 extra 500mb ram really going to be any use? if it is I may buy it :p if not, I may keep the 7811... the influx of good laptops at a reasonable price is really confusing me

1: Absolutely no flex on mine, keyboard or screen.

2: Haven't had to call them yet, thank god.

3: No.. I Love it lol

And mine is a LG and the batch number is H356946, it looks rreally good to me.

The buttons above the keyboard (Media hotkeys) Aren't the best buy they do their job with some pressure.

The wireless On/Off switch seems a bit flimsy but nothing to bad.

So far no problems with it.
Only problem I had once was GTAIV freezing in-game. I assumed that it was GTAIV's fault.

Crysis runs pretty good on it, everything set to high but the res.

Just a little feedback on the machine keeping everyone updated :p

Hmm can't find the post with the questions but anyways here is what I have to say

    1) No flex, it is great, nice and quiet.
    2) Haven't called
    3) I love it, my first laptop..and it's even quicker than my PC :). All that could be better is the KB(the fN key on the left is quite annoying..go for control and hit fN) and I wish the graphics card was a GTX instead of a GTS because Crysis is laggy when there is a good bit of action going on :D. Semi, have you overclocked your GPU? I am looking to do it..as long as it just makes the game run better with no cons, though I doubt there aren't cons to it :S

Will upgrading the CPU to a P9600 or P9800 or even a X9100 (this one might cost more than it's worth) help with the 3Dmark06 scores? Is it that much of a difference with in-game frames-per-second also? Thanks.

Gateway published the specs for the p7805 on their website tonight. They list the screen as WXGA (1440x900). Not sure what that means since they're shipping the WUXGA screen, but if the WEBSITE is saying it, I'm thinking they screwed up in manufacturing, but that it was meant to be WXGA.

I wonder what they mean by "available at select retailers" for the P-7807u...

Must mean they don't have anyone who wants to carry it because they keep changing model specs every month.

maybe they listed it wrongly? I'll see how this plays out... if it's a listing mistake, I'll keep the 7811. if not I'll get the 7805 as well and keep either one (most probably the 7805)

Nah bro I'm running it all stock with dox's 180.84.1 drivers.
What settings do you get a lag on Crysis? I'm running on all high (i forget which res, its down around WXGA though).
And I get no lag, even downloading stuff on firefox in the background.
I'm thinking about overclocking GPU too though just to see how it goes. Wonder if we can find a 1GB VRAM 9800M GTS overclocking guide...

What's even more confusing is that the early 7805u's show the 1440x900 screen specs on the box and on the palm rest sticker, but some of the newer arrivals show the 1920x1200 specs on the box and on the sticker. Wierd.

Another odd thing, although this MUST be a listing mistake on BB's part, they list it with DDR-2 RAM, not DDR 3. Gateway lists it as DDR-3. The 7811 was DDR-3, so this one must be also.

For those that have the 1920x1200 specs on the box, can you guys post a pic of the side of the box so we have it for reference purposes? I can see an issue in the future where someone order's the P7805, it comes with the WXGA screen instead of the WUXGA screen, and BB wants to charge a restocking fee when they return it. This way, those that buy online and somehow (if the WXGA screen will eventually replace the WUXGA screens, which we don't know) get screwed, they can show a picture of a box they had seen where the specs were different and BB should not charge the restocking fee for that.

Ive been into these FX's since they started coming out. My only concern is the native resolution. Even though the specs are solid having a display at 1440x900 seems to be a better "gaming" platform than the 1900x1200. Reason being is it starts taking serious horsepower to push the higher resolutions. It would seem that a mid range resolution like 1440x900 would give better performance and visual quality (assuming its run at the native res) vs. trying to run games at 1900x1200 at native or on a 1900 with lower non native resolution.

I would be interested in this laptop if not for the high res, as my primary purpose is gaming.

    Any input ?

    to Bravoexo,
Thanks for responding so quickly... I think I might go for this laptop!! its an amazing price!!

but 156F?! It seems so high! Doesn't that temp damage the internal components? Are you using a cooler?

Do you think it will last more than 2-4 years at that heat level?

    WarSpartan,
If you would like to game at a lower resolution then that of the native resolution, may I suggest manually lowering the in-game resolution? This way you will still have the laptop and higher FPS values.

I have a 1440x900 screen i'll trade you from my 6860. I love gaming at 1440x900 but i would love to have the 1900x1200 for work related things. I love being able to have 2 full docs or 4 half docs open at the same time lol :p

    Hi Master,

Yep I know we can do that - but running outside of native resolution has a significant impact with a reduction in image quality. Noticeable in the graphics themselves and especially seen on text and other simple graphics. Thats why I felt it was better for higher performance with best image quality.

My experience with games in the past and current is lower resolution is always far easier to run faster. Back with CRT's (which I no longer have any) there was no issue as they ran any resolution without degradation in image quality. However LCD's have a native that if you run outside of gives poor image quality. So if we are locked into a resolution - doesnt it make sense to pick one that gives the best performance and picture if gaming is the primary drive ?

I was looking for input or experiences with this.

As for Kamin, I would almost be down with that. My 6860 screen is fantastic so couldnt argue with another, he he. Does anyone have any benches on this rig with 1440 vs. 1900 resolutions in games ?

I watched them set up an AUO this morning that was the store display model. Looked fine to me, I went ahead and bought one that had the same batch # so it should have the same screen. Might need a little tuning but it definately didn't have any noticeable problems looking at it on the display.

Hey guys. I've seen a lot of benchmarks here, and everyone's HDD temperature is around 41 or 42.

But my p-7805u, with speedfan, starts at around 38C and increases to over 50C.

    Is this a problem?

Please can someone answer my question about the heat over 140F and how long the life of a laptop with that temperature might be?

    Also,
I know coolers bring down the temperatures by at least 10C, which is alright.. but I will look into getting one when I get this laptop. (if)

I am on 1920x1200 that is why :) I think that if you overclock your GPU, it is laptop or rig specific, because it has to do with the fans of the laptop/desktop as well.

Hey everyone...know this has probably been answered in the last 70 pages or so...but I'm planning on picking up a 7805u sometime around Jan 12th or so...

BB currently has the 7805u listed online (at $1049 - a screaming deal to be sure) as having the WXGA screen...however it seems that many of them have the WUXGA screen and the listing is in error. Anyway how can you tell (in store) if the unit you are buying has the WUXGA screen?

Secondly...will this change in the near future (BB realizing their error upping the price?) I really can't make the purchase until the middle of next week...

    Thanks!

I've got a question for everyone here. I've been keeping track of this notebook because I'm going to need one between now and june. My current laptop is nearly 4 years old and on it's last legs. It doesn't travel well anymore and won't come with me if I get a the teaching job in japan I'm after.

Do you think I should just grab this? Hold out for the MSI 725/727, or wait for the summer refreshes of parts?

I can live without a laptop for a few months. So waiting isn't an issue.

    Thanks
