Yeah I have the bag it's great. Just make sure you get the SL-LP-19B , make sure it has a B at the end or later letter. This is the 2nd version that fixed issues with the first batch of the backpack. The place I bought it from buy.com doesn't have it anymore. It was going for a great price 70 something. Google around I'm sure you will find one at a reasonable price for you sooner or later. BTW it's well worth the price.
This place has it for 90

there are probably other places.

Does anybody else have flex near their Wireless switch? Sometimes if I rest my hand against that section it flex a bit and I can hear it flexing.
-
Not here... I've got a ExpressCard/54 CF reader there though...so it might fills up that space underneath there

Has anyone with this 7805u added a second hdd for raid 0? If so how did you do the reinstall with no Vista CD or Drivers?

Does this machine makes sense for a non-gamer? I'm just looking to replace my Pentium D 830 @ 3GHZ. Mostly surfing and office apps, but also want a faster machine for video editing, and also for hooking up to my 47" LCD for watching videos over the Net. I'm also ready to move to a laptop just for convenience for moving around the house. I have a netbook for casual coffeshop use, so the 17" screen being so big isn't an issue. It just seems for the price - even for a non-gamer, this is a pretty good spec machine.

Ya those restore discs are basically a vista 64 disc just with all the drivers etc already pre loaded but it still beats having to buy a copy of the OEM version.
-
-
Anyway, I've also got a Gateway 6864FX 15" laptop and a desktop but just couldn't pass up this deal on the 7805u. The thing with laptops, in my opinion, is to get the most bang for the buck to get the longest useful life out of it. I think it's a great laptop for anybody if it's in the budget.
I say go for it!

I setup mine w/ RAID0
I made the 2 DVD OS/System Restore from the Gateway software.
I made the 1 DVD App/Driver Restore disc too.
I downloaded Intel's Vista64 RAID drivers and put in a memcard.
I used a Windows Vista Installer disc.
Setup RAID 0.
Installed Vista, used the License on the sticker underneath.
Used the drivers/app disc to load most of the drivers except GPU and synaptics. Didn't put back most of the apps too.
I used DoX drivers for the GPU, used my Logitech setpoint drivers first, then Synaptics drivers downloaded.
I couldn't restore the Gateway Restore App.
I installed Intel's storage software, downloaded. -

Hey everyone. Would you mind hopping over to the screen/batch number post and submitting the info from your laptops? I'm really dying for samples here. At this point I can't even tell if laptops from the same batch will have the same screen, it seems random.

Anyone else having problems with the CD/DVD drive?
I'm in the process of ripping a bunch of my CD's. The door seems like it's hard to close. I have to give it a bit of a push to get it to close, and it gives a pretty loud click. With my 3 previous Toshiba laptops, the door closed easily.
Is this normal for this particular laptop? Just want to make sure I didn't get a defective one. Thanks! -
anyone notice that you can make your touch pad into a mood pad, go to the icon on the toolbar for synaptic pointing device>right click>accessories>mood pad
-
yep, even my "old" P-171X FX has that
, wow its been a year now with my first FX, still running S\strong!
-
-
Ya thats normal its was like that on my 6860,7811s,7805 it almost feels like its breaking going inif your doing alot of ripping though you may want to invest into a cheap external dvd drive, i have one and installing , ripping is quite abit faster then the internal .

I just got my 7805u home. Is it supposed to be a 2.26ghz cpu or 2.4ghz? Mine shows up as a P8400 @2.4ghz Is that just another box misprint?
-
Looks like it takes 30minutes or so on standard "power saver" option to go down 10%..pretty good I guess, I am terrible at math but..I think I am right..being safe going down to 10% you will get about 4.5 hours of power if you are just surfing the inet.
edit:I am navigating around 4 sites..but I am guessing that's what most people are/will be doing anyways -

Well I'm a bit to lazy to quote everyones post but heres some more input:
I've been running a defrag for the past hour and HDD hasn't gone ever 43c.
While gaming the GPU doesn't go over 64c (3hours crysis, 4hours CoD4, 2hours GTAIV) None of them push it over 64c.
Although the person who said gaming at a lower native res would perform better than scaling down the 1920x1200 would, that has its pros and cons because when you can run the game at native 1920x1200 its really nice. So far I've been able to do that with Left 4 Dead and Call Of Duty 4, both look amazing at that.
About the CD/DVD tray, mine seems pretty sturdy and haven't noticed anything wrong with it.
I can't find any flex on the right side near the Wireless Switch, nor anywhere else on the notebook.
The only cooling method I'm using is a regular tiny space fan blowing on the whole laptop from the left side (with the fan set to low). Though it only helps it 1-2c.
Also Zak, just run Crysis at a lower res and you wont notice any lag whatsoever
Now for the questions:
1: Everyone elses harddrive say its 288GB?
2: Does CPU-Z say your memory is DDR2? (I think I saw one of you post that on here too so guessing its an error)
Thats all for now -
As far as I can tell its a P7805u and CPUz identifies it as a P8400 cpu but then it says @ 2.4ghz
-
I actually am doing a good bit of ripping...probably about 400+ CD's in all. I'm happy to finally had a hard drive that will hold my complete music collection. I'm too cheap to buy an external though, since I would probably use it rarely after this project. -
Yes for the 2 q's. Also, mine is the same for the GPU..I think it hasn't gone over 50c actually, air conditioned room playing Crysis and no cooler or anything, just on my lap on my bed. There is flex on my wireless switch..it won't even work anymore :| I have to press the fN+f2 key. Also, I did that, and of course there was no lag
, have you tried to put a few of the settings on very high and see if it lags?

-
BMW check your box, CPUz said mine was a 2.26..how much did you pay?
-
@BMW, a Wolfdale? ha ha...that is wierd. A generation behind. and different socket too. I have the same version of CPU-Z and it got it right, Pennyrn Socket P
-
CPU-Z says CPU is 2.26 and under memory it says DDR2? Is it a misread from CPU-Z? Or Gateway?
-
Wierd. I paid $1050 for it today at best buy. Bottom of the comptuer says P-7805u. Maybe something isn't reporting right. Is there another program I can use to double check it? Mine says DDR2 under the memory tab, but then under the SPD tab it says DDR3
-
-
-
-
Shows the same.
-
Best Buy shows DDR2 memory under specs, but Gateway's website shows DDR3? Which is it, how can we tell, System bus speed?
-
-
dxdiag shows the same (see pic on page 79) P8400 @ 2.4ghz
-
doesn't the welcome center say DDR3?
-
-
-
I guess I could pop it open and apply some AS5. Kind of wierd. Is there some other cpuz type program out there?
-
-
Everest shows the same too. 2.4ghz. Way strange. It comes up as 5.3 for processor in the WEI scores. Someone else who just got a 7805u, what is your score for the CPU? (I know the windows WEI is a weak tool, but just curious if it shows different)
-
Anyone venture a guess as to whether one of the new Intel Q9000 Quad CPU's will work in here? That would be a sweet upgrade on a $1050 notebook of this caliber!
-
-
Someone mentioned they were going to try it. I cant remember which forum it was though. They said they needed to find out about the heat sink shape first.
P-7805u
