A great and inexpensive place to buy good HDMI cables is here:

There is a new driver update for the intel wifi 5100 (the P-7805u's Wireless Card), it came out on 1/5/09. You can download it here;
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... Vista* Home Premium, 64-bit version&lang=eng -
pfft...i paid 6 bucks for a 10 foot 1.3 hdmi cable. www.monoprice.com
-
Ok, it was just a example, I am sure everyone here can google
alot of people pay $60.00 at Best Buy for a 6' hdmi.
-
didnt mean to throw you to the wolves like that flynnaz, just giving him a good reliable website to order from.
i ordered a 2 to 1 hdmi switch and 2 10 foot hdmi cables for ~35 bucks. much cheaper than in the stores. -
I got ya, no biggy, I tell co-workers about HDMI cables of the internet (everything off the internet) and they kick them selfs.

Does it increase the capabilities of the card? -
I am not sure, intel says it does, I figured it needed as much help as it could get, that link has a utility with the driver, intel recommended downloading the one I linked.
-
Is the best buy warranty worth it? I have heard the Gateway customer service SUCKS!!!!
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Fair enough, i was wondering if you saw any preformance increase with the new driver.
Though i guess no one really noticed the improvement unless they share massive files wirelessly over a network. I get 54mbps on my 6860 and thats still ALOT faster than my 6meg net connection so any faster only helps when transfering files between my home network
(i want 100+meg internet connections
)
i think it is, but then again i travel alot with my computers so i want to have the "just in case" comfort knowing i can get mine replaced. If you just sit it on a desk and dont go anywhere with it then its probably not as good of a value
and yeah gateway doesnt have the best service in the industry (but they make such powerful cheap computers none of us really care) -
Thanks Ira. I picked up a kensington that lancorp pointed me to (under $22 with shipping)
-
I didn't have to set the router. I have a trendnet and couldn't as my Daughter and her Fiance and my printer all use G. Even my XT5000T is G untill this system is settled in............
-
Is there anyway to get better than 65 mb speed in a G and N mode? I am using a Dlink 655 as well
-
Not that I can tell, I tried, and finally gave in, my Wii and PsP are the only things I have that use G, so I bought a USB to Lan adapter for my Wii, and I guess I will switch to G when I need to update my PsP. I really wish it was simpler.
-
It seems, from what I've read, that the Intel 5100 and a DIR-655 has that issue. Others with the 5100 have used the newer Linksys N routers and get 150-270mbps.
-
Same drive, but much cheaper: http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=17074&source=gbaseus¤cy=USD
-
same drive but even CHEAPER...$99 bucks..

Amazing...think I am buy this one!! -
WoW, is this for real? I may get one
-
Fwiw, just to confirm, I received my Kensington power adapter from Fry's this morning, and, yes, it did come with a slew of connectors, including one for Gateways (two actually, since the one already connected to the cord was for Gateways). All in all it came with 1 X N14, 1 X N19, 1 X N29, 1 X N30, and 2 X N3 (the one for Gateways).
-
I just ordered it...the only difference is it is NOT slot loading, it is the tray..big deal...hopefully getting it tomorrow. I will keep all posted.
Also just ordered the T9800 from extremeprocessors on ebay...keeping my fingers crossed on that one...Moneybookers doesn't allow US residents to use...so I will have to wire out funds.. -
That is an EIDE drive... I believe that 6860, 7811 and 7805 use SATA drives, I may be mistaken though.
-
This model sems to have the incorrect connector that would be needed. Don't we need a drive with a SATA and not a P-ATA connector?
-
****e...you are right...canceling order now!!
-
Careful, I think the 5500A is ATA, not SATA and we need the SATA version.
The 5500S is the SATA version.
Ira -
thks for the heads-up!!! sorry guys!
-
6860 uses PATA BigHops. great deal for us 6831/6860 owners. too bad i dont have a 1920x1200 screen or i would jump all over it.
-

Isnt that Blue Ray Drive a Pata connection?
I thought the 78xx series used SATA connections for their drives?
EDIT
nevermind everyone else caught it... and entire page of posts popped up before i could finish my post lol -
Would this laptop be fine if i am playing games for a few hours let say 3-4 hours at a time (especially when i am at my cousins house since nothing to do there)
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
As long as its plugged in sure. It will be fine playing games. Just give it plenty of air flow and you wont have to worry about anything but pixelated things tryign to kill you -
Hey speaking of these, mine was aparently shipped via back to the future express, it showed up already. Is it supposed to light up when plugged into the wall or only when plugged into a laptop and the wall? I got it with an assortment of tips, and N3 seems to be right for the 7805 but plugged into the wall nothing happens. The tip does stick out quite a bit so maybe the 7805 needs a different one but the way the instructions read the power module should light up regardless of whether or not a notebook is attached? I think I may have to get another one already, lol.
-
Well would i be able to play games when its on my lap and not worry about my legs catching on fire?
After all thats why its called a LAPtop. -
Man. I thought you had found the deal of the year on the BluRay drive.
Well, since I was planning on buying a P-7801u from NewEgg and ended up with this awesome deal I'm going to put the extra fund-age into some upgrades.
1st is this SSD 128GB drive from G.Skill. Seems to be the killer deal right now for SSD's.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231221
This drive received a great review from here:
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1650/gskill_fm25s2128gb_25inch_solid_state_disk/index.html
Next might be a CPU upgrade, but I'm going to hold off on that until I see how the SSD feels. I might not really need the extra CPU HP under the hood. -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
You "can" but i would get a nice flat surface for it to rest on. A lap desk or some such, so you can guarentee air flow and you dont have to worry about discomfort (alot of lapdesks have nice cushie bean bag bottoms for your comfort
And technically they are called notebooks now, because of the "laptop means i can use it on my lap" mentality . Its an interchangeable word really, but ideally you dont want to use gaming rigs (that produce a good deal of heat) on your lap where skin and clothes can interrupt airflow and cause issues.
I had an old dell that i would use on my bed (all vents covered) and it never got above 60 degrees, but these machine produce ALOT more heat than that quickly (espeically if gaming) -
Post your 3D mark 06 Scores.
Please.did a quick seach didnt see any..sorry maybe start a new thread for it?
Thanks -
From a thread in the Sager forum. MrPresident got 87xx 3Dmark06 score when he downloaded it to the 7805u demo version in Best Buy. That # sounds about right for a 9800m GTS.
-
Semigamer posted some...Anyways, anyone going to dl Windows 7 beta...I am debating whether or not I should. I guess it would be easy to get vista back on here...though I would have to redl firefox..AVG...spybot search & destroy...photoshop...eh I guess that's easy.

For what it's worth, I took back two different LG panels, as they both had some very noticeable arge areas of darker blacks (almost forming two vertical bands in one case), and on both machines there was a large blotch of uneven blacks about the size of a 50-cent piece located about 1/4 of the way from the top of the screen, and in the middle (from left to right).
Both were from the same batch ( H366487), so I am left wondering if this was a problem only with this batch, or if anyone else has noticed it?
I looked at the display model (which happened to be an AUO), and I did not see it on that particular panel (although the glare from the obnoxiously bright lights inside BB might have prevented me from seeing it), so at this point, I am seriously considering giving up and just taking whatever they have in stock (which seems to be only AUOs)...
Am I the only one seeing these uneven blacks? I showed it to several people (including BB's tech) who all said they saw what I was talking about.
Then there's also the speculation surrounding the wording on the price on BB.com - the 7805u is now labelled at "Our Price: 1049.99" instead of showing a list price, and the 1049.99 being their 'sale price'...
So now I am torn as to whether to settle for an AUO (which at this point would be better than a blotchy LG - which has been the case with both LG's I've had thus far - admittedly from the same batch, but still...) or to keep looking.
Should I keep looking for an LG or just settle for whatever is in stock... and does anyone else think the 7805u will be a regular item for 1049.99?
And has anyone noticed these uneven blacks? Set your BG to solid back and you might see what I'm talking about on your machine... -
Badmo, my 7811 AUO panel has no such problems...
anyway, getting an LG panel doesn't mean you'll be getting a better panel. After all, in manufacturing process, defects do happen and I believe both LG and AUO are all made in China, and if you know how they treat the labors there, you'll know why defects happen -
You'll love that SSD. I have the same one in my HP HDX Dragon (20.1"), and boot-up and app launch times are much improved. If you can use a traditional HDD for data (as a 2nd drive), that is preferred, and move your pagefile to the HDD.
-
mine worked fine. i was worried when i tested the tip pre-plug in and it stuck out like 60% of the way. it's been working fine the last hour. HUGE thanks to whoever posted the frys link. i was going to jump on a 80 dollar targus universal instead. I LOVE refurbs with a warranty
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
yeah but tomorrow i'll still be at work on an oil rig and still not have acces to my computer -
COOL!!! I bought a WD 500GB drive to make into an external. Now I'll just put the 320 in the case and have the 500GB in the laptops 2nd space.
One of the tweaks for proper SSD use is to NOT use the pagefile function and to turn it off since the pagefile is an OS design to help traditional HDD speed up, but is absolutely not necessary for SSD use and can cause alot of headaches. I've been all over the OCz forums reading up on the issues with OS and SSD's. -
Yes, the little light on the kensington should be lit regardless of whether a notebook is plugged in or not. So, if you want to get another from frys.com, go for it. BUT, the broken one you have now, I would bet (actually almost promise) that Kensington will replace it with a brand new retail unit if you email their support from their website and explain that it has no LED and you just bought it.
I've done that a few times, and their email support are very nice and quick to get you taken care of. They always send brand new units for the replacements, so you'll wind up with a $140 brand new unit to replace your broken one!
BUT, it does take them 10-20 days to get that replacement shipped out.
Sorry you got a dud. I almost feel responsible!
-
Well, you NEED a pagefile if you don't have GOBS of memory in the system, that is why there is the ability to move your pagefile to a different drive.
If you only have 2 or 3GB of RAM, I would definitely stick with a pagefile, but move it to D: (your HDD). -
I just ran 3Dmark06 on my new stock, not overclocked 7811 and got the same score 87xx (8736 to be exact)... seems like the extra vram in the 9800 GTS does not do anything and it's there as a gimmick
update: i searched MrPresident's thread and he said he got 8709 -
That was me!
They are great little units, and I like to let as many people as possible know about them!! -
Actually, it does mean you'll get a better panel. It doesn't guarantee you'll get a working one, but comparing normally functioning LG and AUO panels, the LG are better (visually).
