Wow I also ordered one of those Kensington PSU's last night, and it got here today... I chose standard ground shipping which was $5.79 (I also got it together with a couple other small items)... there's gotta be some sort of sorcery involved here! Anyways, I'll open it up and use it tonight and depending on which way that goes, I'll have some choice words for lancorp.

Hey everyone.. The BB in my area has one in stock at the sale price ($1049), and I'm looking for someone to convince to to buy it.
I've been looking for a decent 17" wuxga laptop for a couple months now, but have had a hard time finding them around $1000. It seems as if this laptop is a bit overkill for my needs (Photoshop/Flash/some minor video editing - NO GAMING).
I know this is a "gaming" laptop, but the stats that make it great for games should make it great for my purposes too, correct? Someone tell me I need to buy this laptop. -

Ok i'm getting scared now, Kensington is using some weird form of time dialation to get things to people so quickly.
That is amazingly fast shipping though -

You wont find anything better suited to your needs for less than 1049. You dont have to game on this machine, but the stats dont hurt anything else you could want to do.
Not everyone that buys a top of the line clevo/arima games, but the power these machines have certainly helps ALOT of other applications -
Hi,
I've been running without a page file even with Vista 32 on my XT5000T. I set up the same on the P7805u right away. I am having no issues at all. All of the 3DMarks 03, 05 and 06 ran without a hitch. I however would not suggest this on a system that shares the ram with the video. -
I'm somewhat torn here. The power monger in me wants a T9800 or maybe a Q9100 or even QX9300 but I have to say for casual use the P8400 does a nice job and seems to give pretty good battery life. Those here who ahve upgraded how much better does the system seem and how bad did it hit the battery life?

I am happy to report that my Kensington $15 PSU works like a charm and I was taken aback by how slim and light it is, as I'd gotten used to the Targus 180w unit.
I noticed that it also emitted a slight but noticeable audible whine kinda like the stock psu's from Gateway when it was being maxed out. I ran through a Half-Life 2 Lost Coast video test with screen brightness at max and my gpu oc'd to 650/975/1495, and finished without issue. The Kensington got barely warm.
My one gripe would be the comically short cable/plug that connects the psu to the outlet. I don't know how anyone could come up with that kind of design and consider it "functional."
But oh well, for fifteen bucks I'm certainly not having any regrets about it. Just remember, folks, that the N3 adapter plug that fits into our Gateway's will not fit in all the way. It will be jutting out quite a bit and it almost feels like you're not plugging it in all the way, but that's the furthest it'll go and it works fine.
Edit: After putting this thing to more use, I'd like to revise the "barely warm" statement. The brick unit does get really hot when playing games, almost too hot to handle. I'm personally not comfortable with letting it get that hot, so I'm gonna stick to my 180w Targus when I game. Still lovin' the Kensington for its tiny size, so I'll be using that when I'm not needing to run anything intensive. -

THe t9800 is a great upgrade, probably top of the line for this machine. You dont get enough from the x9100 to actually justify its cost or TDP (2.93 vs 3.06... 13 mHz woo hoo)
The sweet spot i think is the t9600, but if you wanted to shoot for the moon i wouldnt recommend anything over the t9800 -

For the peeps that got the Kensington:
http://www.onsale.com/shop/detail.aspx?dpno=7029943&store=onsale&source=bwbfroogle
While it costs about as much as the charger itself, it looks like it'd be much nicer than the cable that comes with it. Once I get a working one in hand I think I'll order one. -

You might could get a quad to read in the system, but you might also have it burn out in a few days due to the cooling system not being able to handle it correctly. -

Others of us, though, that run multiple apps at the same time and have higher memory requirements NEED a pagefile. Despite what you claim, the importance of a pagefile is well documented, and you're doing a disservice by suggesting that it isn't needed.
As was stated, with the use of an SSD as your boot drive, it's important to move that pagefile to a traditional HDD, if available. -
How can you tell if the notebook has the LG or AUO panel? Do you look in the Display settings under the monitor tab?

Rep Power: 4 AUO vs. LG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I just got my LG screen replaced with an AUO. I must say the AUO looks much better, and the colors are way more vibrant. The LG sceen I had had a lot of those weird sparkles and whites didn't look very white. However, the AUO I just received made a huge difference in color. It's much more clear. Whites are much whiter on the AUO, then on the LG I had.
I know a lot of users here dislike the AUO screen, but I am satisfied with it.

hey someone mentioned this for a hardcase, and I was wondering(hopefully they are around, have they used it for their p-7805u, because I measured it and there is about .5inches around the screen on each side..so was wondering if it fits.
-
Ok, I just got back from my Best Buy store and purchased my P-7805U for $1049.99. That is at employee pricing, so I couldn't swing a better deal out of it. I did get 20% off my 2yr protection plan (with ADH) though!! Checked my computer before I left the store and it's also a LG screen (wUxga) and looks BEEAAUUTIFUL.
I checked the End-Of-Life details for the P-7811 FX and that is slated to be placed on EOF in mid-March. What that means is the 7811 will drop to a ridiculous price in March. You'll probably be able to pick it up, if any stores have inventory, for between $450-$750... depending on how good you are at bartering with the Best Buy managers and PCHO supervisors!! (Quick note - the managers will usually barter for a lower price if you get Black Tie Service Plans attached to the sale!!! They make much more $$ on the Black Tie, not the computer itself.) -
I believe most P-7811FX are already sent to liquidators so I doubt you'll find any at Best Buys.
-
Not sure to what end you are trying to argue. I'm glad you're happy with your AUO. I never said they were horrible or unusable, just in a side-by-side comparison with an equivalent LG panel, most people would prefer the LG and many will only take LG if it's an option.
Apparently, Notebook Geek (or whoever you posted), had a bad LG. His AUO replacement was better. Luck of the draw. Like he said, a lot of people dislike AUO. And again, I'm just reiterating general opinion.
Enjoy! -
-
I have the AUO and am more than happy with it............
-
auo is what my fx came with so thats life if I would return it bestbuys would think I am nuts for saying find me one with a LG panel hehe ,you think so?
I am done with this thanks LOL -
So far i notice to problems with my 7805.
1. I connected it to my Samsung LN40650, it connected fine but for some strange reason a part of the screen is cut off, pretty much all 4 corners of the screen is cut off.
2. I tried to connected a ethernet cable to the laptop and it pretty much wasnt work, i tried everything to get internet working on it. -

Hey guys.
I couldn't find the post where people shows the recommended settings for GTA 4 with this laptop.
Can anyone repost it?
Thanks. -
So I'll say it now...You don't have to be a gamer to get the 7805 -

Those are my optimum.
The Car Density was set to 100 and shadows at 11 (thats how I play it all the time, except when in car chases I put car density to 0 for an easier escape or catch ;D). Either way, with those settings, It runs smoothly for me no matter what the car density is set to.
But I must say, recently I lowered the screen res a little bit and it looks identically pretty much so lowering it might give you a better experience if those above don't work well for you. -
Just wondering, but is there a risk that if one sends this to gateway for warranty repair that gateway will swap it or parts of it with a replacement that has the lower specs on the gateway website?
It would stink if you send it off to gateway sometime after the 14 days and it comes back with a lowerend processor or screen. The screen being the biggest deal. -
Its possible Mug.
Nobody can say for sure though because we don't know the correct specs for this thing. So it'd be a "Hope and Pray" type of thing. -
@mugimba, what is the official specs up on the gateway site?
-
Question for you guys with experience for these FX's.
Anyone know of a good cheap backpack to carry it in?
$30-$50 dollar area.
Thanks. -
It would be nice to set up a wikipost somehow so the info can be put together though there probably is one for other fx's and their size is the same (so same backpack choices). -
Try the Ogio - Epic Laptop Backpack (Grey) from Best Buy SKU: 8837707. It's received very decent reviews and is very spacious & weatherproof! Costs $89.99 but on sale for $80.99 now. If you have a Best Buy friend, have them purchase it on their discount for $26!!!
