Someone asked earlier about a touchpad driver that gives you the option to disable it when you plugin a usb mouse, I believe this older driver has that option;

Server queue lengths are long for win7 download. I put in the required info and have been waiting 15 minutes with this message staring me in the face: "Please wait while the download manager begins your download" I think I'll walk out front and shovel the snow of my driveway. Patience has not been one of my virtues.
-
Arggh, had I.E. in Online Armor "run safer" mode and the Win 7 download wants I.E. running in administrator rights. It's downloading now. Back to the snow shoveling.

For any of you who got the 1440X900 editions go check around.. I was able to find a BB with one on display with the 1920X1200 LG monitor and returned my original for that one.
Check around, all hope is not lost yet but the window is closing on being able to find them.
Thanks to everyone who offered up advice/sympathy.. much appreciated. -
@Rossman26, again congrats.
@those who installed Windows7...anyone of you running RAID0? -
So then now to a question on windows 7, are we then able to use updated drivers for Vista 64, IE; nVidia etc.?
-
Hey Ross,
They let you exchange it? Was it already opened? -
I am using CPU-Z and speedfan....available at download.com

If anybody wants this thing in the San Francisco bay area, let me know. I jumped on this machine because of the great deal and made a plan to get a netbook for portability, but the netbook arrived yesterday and it's just too small for my needs. Needlessly to say this plan is not gonna work anymore, so if anybody wants it all you have to do is cover my cost $1150. Has the WUXGA screen and receipt from BB.
P.S. Please PM, can't keep track of all the posts here. -
They were pretty adamant about charging me the restocking fee but when I kept at them about how there were clearly two 'different' versions of the same model and that I had bought this based upon seeing the 1920X1200 model on display, eventually he compromised and said that he wouldn't charge me for the restocking fee but would charge me for the "optimization'
It had been opened by them to optimize and set up the recovery CD so technically it was opened, but was sealed back up with one of their fancy stickers. They had taken it off display this morning.. I would assume in anticipation of selling it?? /shrug -
Hey thanks for the response to this issue. I still have not looked through the guide yet but will try since that thing annoying not letting me save to the c: drive with programs.
-
Just got the guts open my box up to see if I got the "real deal".
I do indeed have the 1920x1200 resolution and the LG display!

According to Gateway.com, it's not. I remember it was a 5400RPM. Here's the site page showing 5400RPM. I do see at Newegg it shows 7200RPM, so who knows?
-
I have some noobie question down here. What software could I use to overclock my GPU? I was trying to use Rivatuner but no success( after i tuned it i can't seem to see any improvements from GPU-Z). Does it need any particular driver to overclock ?
I look through threads and I couldn't find any detail method to overclock it.
Thanks in advance for answering me. -
Not on my Gateway, but a new Dell i7 Core desktop with Intel RAID, which I think is the same as the Gateway has. Windows 7 picked up the pre-configured RAID array just fine.
-
Thanks lancorp. I'll try it out then, got my keys and ISO already.
-
Many of us have been telling others to buy these things but we didn't know when or if the screen would be different and the change seems to be sudden.
-
For those running Win 7 beta now..anyone notice how SLOW it is..maybe it is just because I just started it up for the first time. Also, can you make the taskbar on the bottom smaller...
-
Not slow for me but about the same as Vista.
Taskbar properties, click "use small icons" and that will make the taskbar smaller. -
Hi guys. I have a question for those of you who bought the Kensington 120 watt universal AC adapter. Is the power cord that comes with it a 2-prong ungrounded or a 3-prong grounded?
The reason I ask is that I'll be moving to Japan in a couple of weeks and I found out that very few of their electrical outlets over there are three-prong grounded. I was wondering if buying a refurb Kensington might allow me to plug directly in the wall over there without having to buy a separate adapter and have the added bonus of not weighing as much as brick.
EDIT: Also, if it's two-pronged ungrounded could you tell me if it is polarized (one prong slightly larger than the other)? Japan doesn't do polarized sockets either
-
Alright sounds good, I was also wondering about the whole 2 pronged thing, that is the only thing holding me back from buying it and how can I get that same icon that was on vista where you could click it to get back to desktop?
-
Yeah I remember seeing that as well...
According to the the customer reviews on newegg it is a 7200 rpm drive...
also if anyone has a p 7801u they could verify... -
I have been looking into getting a gaming laptop for a while and the specs on this one are insane for the price. However I have noticed a few discrepancies on the specs that are posted on best buy vs gateway vs what the laptop actually has. so let me get to my questions. Is this laptop equipped with 4GB DDR2 or DDR3 memory? Gateway says DDR3 best buy says DDR2. What graphics card is it running? is it 512 DDR3 or 1GB DDR3. My last question is the display I understand that it is listed wrong on gateway is it a 1440 x 900 or is it 1920 x 1200
-
It's definately DDR3, 1GB of VRAM, early models have 1920x1200 screens but some are showing up now with the spec'd 1440x900 screen.
-
What briteness setting do most set the screen at? full is awfull brite for me
thanks -
It's not a one-setting-fits-all! Just turn it down until your comfortable with it.
Those darn AUO panels!
-
You guys are kind of missing something... the box states "WXGA" which is 1280x800, is it not....?
So seems Gateway still doesn't have it straight.. Since they're putting WXGA+ screens in them now (1440x900).
So I'm guessing thats the "Upgraded goof up" hes talking about. -
I'm not missing anything...no one here has talked about getting a 1280x800 panel, and even Gateway.com specs for the the P-7805u show " 17" High-Definition Widescreen WXGA Display (1440 x 900)". So, while their nomenclature is misleading, what was more confusing was the OP's comment that he/she got the "Upgraded goof up" (which we all would assume is a WUXGA 1920x1200 panel), then states they were disappointed they got a 1440x900 panel. So, I just wondered what other "upgraded goof up" they were talking about.
-
yep AUO 1088, Brightest screen I ever seen in a laptop I mostly work with lcd tv s thanks
-
Technically it's WXGA+, but no one seems to ever be able to get the alphabet soup of resolution naming conventions right on their screens anyways. Everything always said WXGA 1440x900, should have been WXGA+ but that not withstanding the stated resolution is the one people are starting to get now instead of the primo 1920x1200 everyone wants.

"He says one thing and then she says another thing and then ---YOUR TEARING ME APART!!!" - James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause"
-
Yeah I didn't mean to offend you Lancorp.
Just saying Gateway is messing up alot on this since they're saying WXGA 1440x900.
And I was guessing that OP thought he got a "Upgraded goof up" because he figured WXGA meant they're suppose to come with 12x8. And he figured since he got 1440x900, he got an "upgrade".
Yeah I know... But gateway even messing up the alphabet of resolution? gosh lol -
In a week or so, the only source for wuxga FX's will be TigerDirect refurbs and Ebay.
I have a friend who installed a wsxga+ screen on a 6860 so upgrading the screens is still possible with 3rd party screens from ebay, but it is a pain.
I wonder why gateway would re-cripple the FX series with wxga+? -
Who knows man.
For all we know they could've done it on purpose. Knew the first 50people or so would buy them and tell everyone to go buy them and after a set amount of the first batches ran out they switched it and all they lost on the screen was 100dollars or so for each of the ones with 1920x1200 and now they think they'll make their moneys worth with the people that everyone told to go out and buy this machine and they'll have switched the screen to WXGA/WXGA+ (Still not sure which is going to be the final screen res) -
Thanks, the driver came up as an evaluation driver so it wouldn't work but if you have the latest driver and install it without de-installing the evaluation driver the usb disable box works........
-
It is odd, why would they put such a great graphics card in...they should know gamers would love 1900x1200..but really, what would you rather have? DDR3 memory..9800gts...1900x1200..2.26ghz processor. I would much rather have all the other things than 1900x1200, maybe I would lose the 9800gts for a 9600..but that's definitely not as much as a 1900x1200 screen is
. Also, I recommend everyone dling Windows 7..it is MUCH better, my battery seems to be able to last longer, my gaming seems to be smoother and so on, only thing crappy is that there is no black in the customizing theme area. So I ended up screwing up the colors in advanced(where you can change font colors etc.) and now it is messed up and there is no default button
-
Just to confirm, P-7805u FX doesn't have the third antennae wire.
-
Anyone using a external monitor (which would be the way to go, no arguments about screen res then
), found a way to restart your laptop without opening the lid until it gets to the first Windows screen after bios? I know I was able to do it with a older Gateway Laptop.
-
OK, so I sold my refurb 7811 today and finally started testing the 7805. Some people were asking for comparisons and since I've owned both at the same time I would like to share my opinion about them.
1. 7811 ran slightly cooler on the GPU. I have noticed that 7805 is idling on average 4C higher than my 7811 did.
2. CPU temps, on the other hand seem ca. 2C lower on both cores thanthey were on 7811, go figure.
3. My 3dMark06 score is virtually identical on lv2go 181 drivers (83xx) but nowhere close to some posted here, makes me wonder if I should try a different build.
4. The screen is no contest, my 7805 has LG LCD and it is immensely better than the 7811 was. More consistent backlight, less bleed, no misting...
5. The build quality is actually very similar, and not so great, but for this kind of money I am willing to live with that !
All in all I think the screen alone was worth keeping the 7805. Other aspects are very similar and otherwise differences are minute.
One thing I did notice, though, is that the PSU is veeeeery hot, I think it is working overtime on this beast and I hope it will last. Just to be sure I will order the Targus slim PSU mentioned a few pages back.

I'm still up in the air over getting this, risking the lower res screen, or going with the Asus G50=VT X1. Either way, I'm going to be getting one. Being a Gateway, it worries me a bit because I've heard they are not as good as other companies, including Asus. Anyone have anything to persuade or dissuade me away from this laptop or the other? Anyone regret their purchase?

I went to King of Prussia, PA today for the woman's dad's birthday dinner. While up there, I stopped in their best buy.
They have *1* 7805u left with the 1920x1200 screen on display, if anyone is in that area and wants to swoop in and get it. -
Yea so can anyone answer that question about the Kensington AC charger being 2 pronged...

I don't understand what's wrong with my 7805u.
I applied the exact same settings and my average fps comes out to be 8. Just "8." When I turn down every single option to lowest, I still get barely playable.
The ONLY difference is that I am using the official drivers rather than the DOX ones.....
Ugh. I don't know. -
I just installed Windows 7 and no matter what it won't detect the LAN Internal (not wireless) adaptor, any idea where I can't get the driver and how I can find out the name?
-
Thanks! I know I'd complained about that... I hate to downgrade but I'll keep that driver handy if I'm forced to do so out of sheer annoyance.
-
If you install the driver it won't work as it is an evaluation driver. In a previous post I mentioned you then should install the newest version on top of it and then the USB mouse disable function remains.......
-
Xens, tried to PM but was unable to. Maybe because I just registered?
I will try to PM you as soon as I can. In case you read this, contact me at [email protected] ... I'd like to take that 7805 off your hands if its still available.
If possible, can another user please PM Xens on my behalf and ask him to contact me/read this post? It would be greatly appreciated.
My story in a nutshell...Picked up a 7805 from the BB in woodbridge, NJ. 1440x900 res and the HW ID is "LPLA103"
Batch# I007759
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help contact Xens for me
-
Ah, I see... I'll definitely give that a shot then! Thanks for the helpful update, I definitely missed that the first time.
If I figure out what settings are changed due to this evaluation driver being installed first I'll post 'em... I've suspected for a while that all this could be solved with a few registry or INI tweaks but we'll see. I'm pretty sure I know where this is happening in the reg. -
Nvm, I got the driver off Gateway website, I can confirm EVERYTHING working on Windows 7 Build 7000~ ^^
