90F isn't bad after a few hours gaming, but thats not really telling you what the temps of your actual hardware is.
To check the actual temps download this:
http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

Alrighty thanks, hows the interior fabric of the laptop compartment? Does it scratch the lid of the laptop if I just put the laptop in it without a separate sleeve on the laptop? Thanks.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but only time I get that is because I keep my cell phone right here infront of me which is like within a foot of the laptop, and when the phones transmitting (Receiving/Sending a text message, During the phone ringing of an incoming call/out going call). Thats the only times it makes a "crackling" noise.
Also my TV makes the same noise during those same times so no its not the laptops fault.

HWMonitor, I believe that was his question. It also works in Windows 7, and so does Speedfan too evne via TaskScheduler on bootup.

Was wondering where Flynaz quoted that post from, couldn't find it anywhere on the past 2 pages of posts lol. Alright bro.

EDIT: Yeah alot of them say that but usually they put "most notebooks with up to 17 screens" and I was looking at the reviews and someone with an HP 17" said its an extremely tight fit and he doubts anything bigger than the normal size 17" laptop like his would fit.
So I did some research cause I'm looking for a bag too and I couldn't find any HP 17" notebooks that're smaller than our 7805u's. Ours seem to be bigger than a ll the HP 17"s I could find. Just giving you a heads up :p

Hmm I have a question about wireless broadband access from verizon or some other carrier.
Which card do you guys recommend the most? (Will have the fastest speed and everything for browsing and instand messaging).
Also, probably a stupid question, but never used one, so what slot does cards like these even go into ?
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=2910

Thats the most expensive one they have, but I wanna know if thats the fastest one or are their cheaper ones faster? Though it makes sense the more expensive ones would be the fastest.
But yeah, what slot do they go into..?

I use Verizon Wireless for my wireless data. In my area it has excellent speed where ever I need it to. AT&T costs the same and has similar performance so that may be an option as well.

The card in your link goes into what's called an express card slot. The express card slot is a thin slot that will be on the left or right side of a laptop and is becoming standard on newer laptops. It replaces the older PCMCIA slot. My work laptop has a PCMCIA wireless card and I use a USB wireless adapter for my personal laptop. I actually prefer the USB version, although performance is the same for either option.

Hope this helps.

Thanks JP, I've never used my expresscards slot so I was wondering, how do they fit in? Since the wireless card is fully squared off, doesn't the express card slot look something like...

"""""""
|_____|__
_______
_______
_______

That? (Sorry I can't find a way to type it better than that lol)
So how is that wireless card I showed you going to fit in a slot thats shaped like above? Thanks.

Hi guys,

I was just trying to game on battery and noticed that even on the "High Performance" profile the vid card is throttling and as a result in CoH bench I got an average of 13 FPS ! Atrocious !!! The temps on the GPU were in the low 50s, so I know it was not on full power.

This may be a lame question, but how do I set the GPU to run at 100% on battery power ? I am running lv2go 181 drivers, BTW.

I looked in the power settings in windows, but there was no option to adjust the GPU. I have not found one in the nVidia panel either.

Help !

Is it true that we can only expand the RAM to 4GB??? These specs are off of Gateway's site.

And am I better off buying a 7811 brand new for $650 from Best Buy? They just went on final "end of life" clearance.

This is my issue though...
I just bought a new 7805U for $1049 and it's the 1920x1200 res screen made by LG. I haven't done anything with it yet, but checked it out at Best Buy before purchasing. The screen is awesome! I had some "inside info" that the 7811 was going on "end-of-life" for around $800, but I can grab it for $650 this week.

Do I take a gamble and deal with the possibility of a 7811 that could have potential issues like bleeding light, overheating, and mere 200GB harddrive or stick with the 7805 which I know is fine. The difference is $400... that could buy a lot of games/accessories.

Another issue...

Which internal harddrive should I go with - WD 320GB 7200rpm w/16mb cache or Seagate 320GB 7200rpm w/16mb cache? The other drive in the Gateway is WD, but I've always had better luck with Seagate for internals. I'm not setting it up as a RAID 0, but as a complete separate drive.

Nailing down the actual specs on the P-7805u is inconclusive right now. At least with the P-7811, you know what you're getting. And for cheaper.

Can anybody help me out here? I just bought this 2 weeks ago (got lucky saw this exact forum about the screwup bestbuy was having on these and ran out and got the last one on the lower east side in Manhattan)

But here is the problem:

Twice I have tried playing video full screen. After about 30 seconds the video gets pixelated then the screen went black then bright blue telling my my computer had an unexpected crash and created a dump file. Why would that happen its a brand new laptop?

Secondly,

I downloaded the Crysys demo and this thing could not handle playing on the HIGH graphics settings (just below their highest level settings) Why wouldn't this computer be able to handle that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How would they limit it to 4 gigs? (2 to the 32 = 4 294 967 296 or 4 gigs.) Maybe the address bus is only 32 bits wide and that's not upgradable except by replacing the moboard with a moboard that has a wider address bus. Bummer. Sounds like I know what I'm talking about, but I don't. lol. It could, though, be limited in the BIOS and a flash could fix that. Another possibility is that the specs are wrong. Let's hope so. I didn't buy a 64bit machine with a 64 bit operating system to be limited to 4 gigs of memory.

For question one:
Most would call that the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).
Try updating your video drivers.

For question two:
This machine runs crysis fine at high settings, but not 1920x1200 resolution with high settings, drop the resolution (in the game settings, same place as where your choosing high/medium/etc) to 1280x800 or so and it'll run it at high settings.

At most it's limited by the BIOS, the chipset is perfectly capable of working with 8GB of ram. I suspect it's more likely that since a 4GB x 2 DDR3 kit costs over a grand right now and the thing only has 2 slots they just said the 4GB in it is max so a bunch of idiots dont go out and buy another 2x2 kit or a 1x4 and think there's going to be an open slot inside to put it in. Ultimately they get support calls about crap like that so they lower the limit artifically to keep people from asking. HP does this with all their notebooks with 32bit OS's installed (3gb limit). But as I say, a 8GB ddr3 kit costs about a grand right now, so it'll be a while before its realistic to get 8GB in this thing unless you like spending as much on ram as you did on the entire laptop...

Where is this final end of life clearance? From bestbuy.com this morning:

Oh, and it's kind of funny that BB prices an old 7811 at $1279, when the exact same thing, but with a bigger hard drive,
and a different model number is LESS $$$ !! Who, in their right mind, whould buy one of these at $1279?

Not familiar with the Targus adapter, but the jacks on the 7805 and 7811 are identical, so vis-à-vis , the tip should work on both.

Do you guys think there will be a quad core FX series by next fall/winter?

Another one of my buddies has a chance at getting a wuxga 7805u but was really hoping to hold out until quads were available. He says he will kill for a quad core fx with a hi-res screen and would gladly wait.

Yes, the P78 Drivers are the best you will get for know, do a Driver/app backup off your Laptop, Page 22 I think in your Manual. I talked to Gateway Support the other day when I registered my P7805u, and the "Tech" told me the P-78 drivers are for our P-7805u's for now anyways.
