    you should change your name :D. If it gets too hot it MAY mess up your laptop..also that you will void the warranty by OCing I believe

    As long as your temperatures dont go over, you'd be fine.
    But its so easy to overclock your GPU than put it back to stock clocks. After you download the program its as easy as changing your screen resolution.. Read a few pages back for the instructions i gave someone else.

    Alrighty. Deciding between this and the Targus XL. Man decisions suck lol

    Just installed DOX OPTIMISED 181.20 from www.laptopvideo2go.com and overclock to

    GPU Clock: 710 up from 600
    Memory: 950 up from 799
    Shader: 1750 up from 1500

    I obtained 94xx from 3dmark06.

    GPU temps highest got to 68C(154F)

    It seems like a pretty good driver so far. = )

    If you are happy with the 7805u I would just keep it.

    If you are more capitalistic I would buy the 7811 for $700 and try it out. Then sell whichever one you want figuring that selling the 7811 may bring the most profit (though there are a lot of refurb 7811's out there now which lowers the value a bit).

    Though being a techno pack rat myself, there is a danger of having two of these in your possession at the same time. You may want to keep both :D That of course would be stupid for practical and fiscal purposes.

    @BBYGuy,

    I am grateful for your posts so here is my thinking about your options:

    1. No pain option - keep the 7805u
    2. Buy the 7811x at your price. Check it out. Happy, then keep it and sell the 7805u. Unhappy, return or sell the 7811x at a fair price. It will go fast.
    3. The 7811x can be upgraded as many have done. Then in the near future, when new intel, ati, ms technology come out you can go on the next best thing.
    4. I love technology and tinkering so option 3 appeals to me. But, it seems to me that the 7805u might have improvements besides the obvious over the 7811x, i.e. motherboard upgrades etc...That's why I said check out the 7811x. If you see problems then, get rid of it. Otherwise cpu, hd upgrades will make it as good or better than the 7805u.

    Of course the upgrade path is available to the 7805u also abeit at a higher cost.

    I do not have your options, so keeping the 7805u is a no brainer for me.

    I decided to wait after mulling over the pro's and con's. Unfortunately I couldn't sell my existing rig to make it worth while. Let me know if anyone wants it for about cost in the Northern NJ area before I return it. (not sure if I can be pm'ed) Hopefully a deal like this happens again when I need one!

    I am pretty sure you can't change the GPU in any laptop, well maybe a few, but I only know of one instance and that took them a week or so and they had a ton of experience...

    Hello all. This is my first post and wanted to thank everyone for all the great info about this laptop. I got mine last night at the bestbuy in san diego and they had about 4 in stock. mine is the 1920x1200. SOOOO cool. I do have a couple of questions. I read most of the posts and know there here somewhere but i just cant seem to find them. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    1) i can't find the post on how to see what screen everyone has. how do i go about this?

    2) is there a way to disable the windows key while playing games. I keep hitting thhis button and kicking myself out of games.

    3) is there a way to disable the touch pad when using a mouse.

    Hi guys.
    Just wanted to know if this laptop fits in all Targus 17" laptop cases or it has to be the Targus 17" XL version ? Also any store that's got many cases to choose from other than Targus.

    There is a way to disable your touchpad when a usb mouse is plugged in, its on one of these past treads, you need to change a reg setting under your touchpad. Or Download a old version touchpad, like for the P-171x fx. I will hunt for the post.

    Found it;
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=334196&page=141

    Reg entry;

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh]

    "ShowTips"=dword:00000000

    I haven't seen the non XL but my XL is roomy, but I wouldn't say that its that much bigger than the laptop itself. I'd imagine you'd at least have to remove the battery to cram it into a non XL model.

    Hello. I purchased this laptop today from bestbuy in the hopes of all that you and people reviewing it on best buy.com were. Well, I came to find out that mine only has the 1440x900. Did i get a new batch? Am I supposed to update the drivers or something. I am very disappointed that it isnt the higher resolution. Should I try to exchange it and hope to get the better one? Anyone know the policy on getting it exchanged in hopes of that 1080 screen?
    Also, where is this extra drive bay I keep reading about? I want to purchase another hard drive.
    Thank you,

    Vincent

    If you opened it it will more than likely be subject to 15% restocking fee unless you can convince them that you were expecting a 1920x1200 for a legit reason, some people have been successful when the display model was the 1920x1200 by saying "i expected that!". That's probably your best bet. Whats the batch # on the box, most of the new ones are coming with the specified 1440x900 screen resolution.

    As for the hard drive, its next to the factory hard disk, near the front in the middle on the bottom side of the notebook. There's a little symbol that looks like stacked platters from a disk.

    Honestly the higher resolution makes gaming harder if you play at the full resolution the screen supports. The main advantage to a higher resolution is more detail for stuff like photoshop, playing back HD video in full resolution (though we dont have a blu ray for that anyways), and its good for what I do, autocad. For gaming the resolution will look better if the hardware can keep up, but a lot of newer games are real taxing on a 9800m at 1920x1200. A lot of it is really personal preference. Just hope that the display model at one of the stores you can take it back to is 1920x1200 and say it doesn't look like the display model.

    Depends.
    If I were you, I'd go to Bestbuy, look at their display model. If its a 1920x1200 res, see which you like better. While you can run most of the games out now at 1920x1200 res, any future ones you're going to have to lower the res, so future games will most likely look better on the 1440x900 because they'll be at their native.
    So just see which you like better (Font size is small on the 1920x1200 so if you have problems seeing small text I'd recommend staying with 1440x900.)
    Personally I like my 1920x1200. But theres people complaining they want 1440x900 instead of their 1920x1200's too. So before you go make any moves, see if the display model at bestbuy is 1920x1200 and decide if you like it. Cause if you exchange and get a 1920x1200, your not going to be able to exchange again for your 1440x900 if you don't like the new one (unless you get a problem thats not your fault within the 14days, or pay a 15% restocking fee)

    Might be a dumb question, but do you have to have the second hard drive installed before the raid mode is able to be enabled? I only have 2 choices for SATA mode IDE or AHCI. My bios is version 9C.17.00. And I also only have the 1440X900. Thats no big deal to me. I would really like to set up a mirrored array. Just wanted to make sure before I bought the second hard drive.

    About 3 hours surfing and I doubt a bigger battery is available.

    Yeah its already got the larger 9 cell, I don't think G-way sells a 12, you can get a smaller 6 cell that I've been contemplating, it appears to not stick out, I don't plan to use this thing off AC much. I assume it shares the chassis with a less extreme non gaming unit and the 6 cell was flush and standard with a lower spec model?

    Well at battery saver(with a little less brighness) and surfing the internet, I got about 30minutes for every 10%. So simple math suggests that 90% of the battery would be 270minutes...or 4 and 1/2 hours...I think that is great. I won't go any longer w/o battery hopefully through my trips..have fully charged battery, get into car, 45minutes to airport, about 45minutes of charging, and I am going to undervolt my CPU(or does that void the warranty?) which can vary but I *think* it was said that it gave an extra hour usually..though flying you can't of course go on the internet..so you are going to be gaming, donno how intensive that will be on the laptop..but my guess is it would cut it in half :D

    Depends on the plane, larger planes on longer flights usually have the 2 prong EmPower jack, I know the Kensington refurb DC-DC adapter (14.99 at frys) has it, as do all the "auto-air" chargers. A couple airlines also use standard car type "cigarette lighter" plugs.

    edit: I am very confused over the AC and DC Kensingtons...can anyone elaborate on the differences? INcluding if they are 2 pronged or 3 pronged.
