Try changing your drivers. What res are you playing on? This laptop runs most games pretty well on mostly pretty high settings.
Crysis is one of the worst offenders period, and actually runs worse on anything than Warhead does. Something is not right.
Also not understanding the Killzone 2 reference..it'll never be out on a PC and games built ground up on consoles are never good ports to the PC. Which in turn also affects why console games even on technically older hardware can hang around with PC games mainly due to the fact the console isn't running multiple programs and the console specs are locked in so the game can be tuned specifically for only one setup to maximize playability (which in turn is why PC ports later on of a console specified game usually are pretty crappy...cough GTA cough).
-
Crysis warhead starts out at a decent frame rate (~30 or so), but when the fight gets intense (more than 10 ppl on screen shooting and throwing grenades) or 10 aliens shooting ice beams at you, the fps drops to around 11-13. Especially right before the underneath tunnel stage, riding the train stage, and the last stage (the last stage has a metric ton of aliens swarming at you).
Other games like TF2 (min 25fps, max ~100 everything on max), Farcry 2 (min 27fps, max 60+ everything on high), WoW (maxed out, silky smooth) runs really well.
I haven't tried original crysis, but maybe nvidia driver in general doesn't work too well with 9800m GTS and warhead yet.
Edit: I'm also pretty sure they'll port killzone 2 in the future. Although by then the only games I'll be playing will be starcraft 2 and diablo 3(hopefully blizz can get at least one of em done)
-
Hmm I'm gonna have to try out Crysis Warheead to see if it really runs worse than Crysis does on this because crysis runs really fine for me during gun wars and everything else.

-
What resolution are you playing at by the way? -
Update: I just installed original Crysis with patch 1.1, played for about an hour. The game runs at around 15~22 fps on 1200x720, everything on "high." Frame rates were seen by "r_displayinfo 1" command. The fps never seems to go above 25. Dips to 13 minimum on heavy firefights.
Is this what everyone is getting? or am I getting low fps? -
Do BestBuy charge restocking fees for digital camera's bought online and are returned back without opening the box ? Actually i haven't picked up my camera yet using the store pickup option but its ready for pickup. Coz Circuitcity offers the same for a cheaper price. So will BestBuy charge me restocking fee's if i return it back at the same time while picking it up at the counter ? Any idea about that ? Sorry for the out of subject question.
-
No restock on unopened merch, honestly if its sitting at the counter on a in store pickup either go price match it or just call the store and cancel it.
-
no overclocking or anything... I didnt even patch my game yet.. not sure what it could be.. when i first started playing crysis it was all fubared, but now its fine after updating the drivers..
when you updated your drivers, did you use the driver sweep (or w/e its called) to make sure your getting a clean install? -
-
Is the circuit city price online only? If its an instore price the store should match it, regardless of where the order was made you're getting it at a B&M store, so you can always tell them to take the camera and stick it, and they WANT to sell it so they should price match a store price, online only price they wouldnt have to match but again, you can tell them to take the camera and stick it and order it from CC. I'd imagine they'd match the price just to get the thing sold. Ultimately I'd just call the store say "the camera is 123 at store xyz, can you match that on my order, if not please cancel it." Either way your dilemma is solved, you aren't committed to buying that camera until its in your hand.

Maverick,
Best Buy has two policies for their Low Price Guarantee, 1 for on-line and 1 for the stores. Since you are picking it up at a store, then that policy would be in effect. If you do as I said in my previous post, they will refund you the difference. I've done it a few times in the past and it's never been an issue.
(from best buy's website)
Store Price Guarantee
Two more great reasons to buy with confidence at Best Buy.
If you are about to make a purchase and discover a lower advertised price offered by a local retail competitor on the same available brand and model, let us know and we'll match that price on the spot.
Already bought? We'll refund you the price difference from our own sale price, or 110% of the difference from our competitor's sale price, during the return and exchange period on your product.
Either way, simply bring in proof of price while that lower price is in effect.
Best Buy Puerto Rico Stores have their own store price guarantee. Also see our BestBuy.com Price Matching/Price Guarantee policy.
Exclusions:
The Price Guarantee does not apply to our or our competitors' free offers, limited-quantity items, items for sale November 28th & 29th, 2008, open-box items, clearance items, Outlet Center items, mail-in offers, financing, bundle offers or pricing errors. -
It's weird it never goes below 25fps.. cuz even on better computers it sometimes dip to teens on heavy firefights.
What settings are you using? Also, can you maybe take a screenshot showing fps with multiple enemies shooting at you?
THANKS! -
Thanx guys. I cancelled the order. the price of the competitor was the online one. have no idea what the store price is. Anyway will try this next time for sure. honestly i prefer best buy more.
-
-
Probably easier, the "local retail competitor" line excludes them from having to match a CC online price, as CC stores themselves don't guarantee that they'll match their online price. If the in store price was higher you wouldn't have gotten a match anyways (at least not without just prodding them to see if they wanted to make the sale) Ultimately "the price" is not nearly as fixed as you might think at retail stores, almost all of them have room to wheel and deal if they really want to make a sale.

OK guys I just got my p-7805u from Best Buy
Batch #I014197 and guess what.... It has the 1920x1200 screen on it I verified it at Best Buy before I left. So it looks like they may be back and here to stay!!! -
Well all right! Thanks for the report, jay. Would you mind posting that in the "batch thread"? Really useful information.

Hey guys,
Picked up a P-7805u a couple of days ago, it came with the 1900x1200 AUO screen. Today was the first day I've really sat down and done something on it (removed the bloatware) and I'm noticing a "ghosting" of the windows I open. The best example I can give is when I open up the start menu and leave it up for oh... five seconds, when I close it I can still read a "ghosted" image that it leaves behind. Same thing for any window I open in the left part of my screen (the lower left quarter is where it is most noticeable).
I'm using the windows wallpaper "img2" (the black one with the leaves). I was trying non black wallpapers and I don't notice the "ghosting", maybe the light colors are just hiding it?
Now to my question... Is what I'm describing normal? -
Hi guys,
So I decided to order the Kensingtons (both AC and DC) from Frys, I figured for $14.99 each this is a deal of the year ! I love Frys, I ordered late afternoon yesterday and the package was at my doorstep when I got back from work today ! And, I chose the cheapest shipping option and they decided to overnight it DHL from OH to CA ! This is the way service should be !!!!
Anyway, I am using the AC PSU as I type, but I have noticed two things and I would like to know if anyone has similar experience.
First, the PSU is REALLY HOT, I mean I can not keep it in the palm of my hand for longer than 2-3 sec before burning myself !!! Is this normal ?
Second, I am using the N3 tip, which all of you recommended, and frankly is the only one fitting the 7805. The tip is a very tight fit and does not go in all the way. Is this the way it should be, and is it OK to do that ???
I tried tip N14 with my Acer Aspire One, perfect fit, so I am all set ! I will keep the DC charger in the car for now, and the AC will be my travelling PSU. The Gateway brick will live at home under my desk and be stationary. It is too big and heavy to carry around anyway !
All in all, highly recommended buy from Frys. Thank you for the tip !!!
DK -
Yeah the N3 isn't the greatest fit but it does the job. I figured the kensingtons would make good backup/travel adapters and wasn't expecting too much from them.
-
Mine is warm to hot, but definitely not too hot to touch or hold on to. The N3 tip is the correct one. True, it doesn't fit all the way in, but mine is a solid fit, so I'm not worried. -
I got an auo panel and it does not do that ,luck of the draw for all lcd s -
Anyone else? -
My panel is great, AUO. I am still awaiting my replacement brick from Gateway but the Targus 180w I have works so good. I may let the old XT5000T get the Gateway 120w brick and keep using the 180w here.
While agreed the 180w brick is huge to transport I am going to get a case that will and get another brick to leave at home. The brick, as it is now, is actually cool to the touch. It runs cooler with this system than it did with the XT5000T./yet again if I ever upgrade the CPU etc. I am already then set for power with the 180w. -
Will the kengsington be hot to touch only after or during gaming?

Hopefully the loss of Circuit City is a battle of attrition and those customers who did go to CC will now go to BB and stave off the global super power that is Walmart.
I'm a Big K man myself. -
I was using the Dox 181.20 optimised and gained 9478 on my 3dmark06 with the overclocking of 610/950/1750. I thought this was a good driver for 7805. However, the drivers crashed a few time during my game play of warcraft III:Frozen throne(@ 20min ++) and Crysis(randomly, after 30min of gameplay normally). I think this driver has stability issues within. Now I'm using Nvidia official 179.28 and oc to the same setting getting 9245 for 3dark06

I remember last time some of us are discussing the Black Tie Protection (Best Buy warranty). Did we have a conclusion whether it is worthwhile to buy the overprice warranty?
I have time till Tuesday to decide whether I'm buying that. Any advice? -

Well...gotta confirm that the latest batches may indeed have the WUXGA screens. Just bought mine yesterday at a local BB and literally got one off a pallet that arrived the day before. Batch number I013184. 1920x1200 LG screen.
Also as a bit of luck. The store still had a counter card with a holiday special for the 7805u and a Linksys N-router ($99 usual retail) purchased together from $1129. They realized their error but honored the deal as it was posted so basically I got both for a total of $120 off. -
How do i check what monitor i got?
Edit....never mind. I have the LG monitor. -
Hi all,
I know this may not be a laptop related question, but you are all a very helpful bunch, so I figured I might ask, since it is attached to my 7805.
I purchased a Gateway 24 inch display to hook up when at my desk. It has SOME backlight bleeding, but I don't know if this much bleed is expected or not. Any ideas? Is SOME backlight bleed inevitable? I have it on all 4 edges, and it seems fairly uniform. Is it normal, or should I return it?
Thanks for any advice. -
In the early batches all you had to look for was LG vs AUO panels. Now it's WXGA vs WUXGA and LG vs AUO.

Very strange indeed...hate to see such things be a crap shoot... -
wats up with ppl posting how u can get a second harddrive installed by geek squad? Sorry I've been offline for a week or so so can someone update me on recent 7805u news? I know about the 1400x900 monitor thingy... how about the second hard drive upgrade? anything else?
PS; how can I tell if a monitor is 1920x1200 or 1440x900 without opening it at BB? What should I do to tell becuz I'm in canada and it takes 3 hours for me to drive to the closest BB.... anyone know anything about dead pixel warranty on 7805??? -
Well, I packed it up and took it back for exchange. Got the last one, had them open it and hook it up. Checked it out there with a black screen, it looked better. Brought it home, it's pretty much exactly the same way my old one was, maybe even worse.Freaking store lighting made it hard to tell. I guess it's normal for this display. FHD 2401.

hello everyone.....
i just bought 2 of these tonight... heres the scoop... first models released were x1200 resolution. gateway advertised it as a x900 res. after they realized how much they screwed up only the new models being sold are x900 good luck finding an early release model with the x1200
sounds like gateway wanted to save some $$$ for the second release of these they were $1049 now they are $1249
i have to admit they are nice!!! Prob the nicest laptop ive owed its hooked up to my 52" samsung 120hz display and its better then my ps3!!!!! -
-
oh yea... the x900 resolution laptops have a sticker on the box about the batteries starting on fire ... located above the bar code box... the early models with the x1200 res. do not contain this warning sticker...... this is confirmed twice.....
-
What's this, a battery starting fire sticker?
-
Probably due to the sony battery recall, I'd imagine its to inform shippers etc that there's a battery inside that can catch fire if ruptured etc
-
Thanks! -
