Why can't you burn the windows 7 image to a dvd? You downloaded it from Microsoft, if you didn't you can.
-
-
I didnt downloaded it a friend that works for Microsoft install it in my lap. Will burning win 7 image in a dvd will work for reinstallation if i didn´t download it?
-
Yes, goto Microsoft's website, download the image, make sure you write down or get a product key too.
-
Yea I was really jazzed about the possibility of running the EVE premium graphics content (finally) and it completely exceeded my expectations. (And I thought the regular graphics package looked nice...sheesh!
)
On another note...I also am running MS Flight Sim X (saw someone mentioned this awhile back as well.) Cranked every graphics setting to the max and it runs slick as snot! Takes Virtual Airlines to a whole new level...mind blowing graphics on FSX with the 7805... -
Sorry about that. I'll look a little more carefully before posting. I thought I saw for laptops but I guess it's wishful thinking. On the bright side, I have a desktop that needs upgrading.
Since laptops are now outselling desktops, demand is high for Centrino 2 chips. No price reductions yet. -
there's a 10% price cut for intel's P8600... I guess pricing for P8400 will come down as well
-
Hmm new problem I've got...
So when I'm browsing, the scrolling on the touchpad just goes out. Like the touch pad will turn fully into a mouse (Running finger down the far right side of the touchpad will make the cursor move down just like if you would run your finger down the center of the touchpad). Than after some time (whenever it wants) the scrolling works again.
Anyone know a fix for this? Since I'm a heavy touchpad scroller, its very annoying. -
Right-click somewhere on the page, then tap anywhere on the page to get rid of the menu. That usually gets the scrolling working for me.
-
alt+10 on the boot menu will take u to system restore
-
so im under the impression there is a large partition that is set for something...can i delete it?
-
yeah i just click on the scrollbar to reset it back to scroll mode. i like how it continually scrolls with just a quick flick. saves me the hastle of scrolling everytime i wanna go to the bottom of a page.
-
Man my laptop froze today for the first time on me
...I think it is because I have itunes and frostw now..I also have photoshop, but I had that before.
-
Thanks I'll try that the next time it happens
I've tried left clicking everywhere possible, nothing worked
just seemed to come back whenever it wanted..
-
Hmm why would that stuff make it freeze?
Scan it for virus's and such. I'm using AVG 8 free. -
question: how OFTEN does the left fan kick in? it seems like every couple minutes for like 1-2 seconds...this is what others are experiencing from what i gather, right?
also, sometimes i hear ticking or something from the dvd drive...? -
As posted by others and my own experiences. Yeah, the fans will kick on when the GPU reaches 50C and remain on till it drops to 42C.
Haven't heard anything from my DVD drive though, are you talking about with a disc in or without one? -
Lemme know if it works for you. I just had to do it again on my own system before I typed this and the trick worked again.
This isn't that high on the annoyance scale though. Want something even more annoying than the scroll not working on the touch pad? How about hooking up an Intuos3 6x11 to your nice and shiny new 7805u, and it spontaneously would screw up between mouse and pen mode, and when using the mouse would usually force the cursor up into the upper left corner, even after rebooting? *THAT* one was annoying as all hell and took me a little bit to figure out and fix (it's not a system issue, rather it's a Wacom driver issue).
-
Yup, mine kicks in every so often. I think it depends on what power mode you have Vista set to. I keep mine in high performance mode, so I'm willing to bet that has something to do with it.
-
Alrighty.. When I want it to happen to see if right clicking works. It wont do it! GR! lol (hasn't in like 3hours).
Dang that does suck, glad you got it fixed
-
That can't be true... my fan kicks in at random times... CPUID HM up and running and it was at 46 and kicked in......
I could be wrong though, but I have been watching when the fan kicks in.. it could just be turning on at certain intervals that we don't know yet hah. -
Yeah, Its not confirmed by any means, its just an average we all go by.
To be more pacific, mine comes on at 48-50 (meaning sometimes it comes on at 48, sometimes at 49, and sometimes at 50, never any other time that ive seen so far). stops at 42 RIGHT BEFORE it goes to 41. Every time. -
OK, heres the problem. I bought this laptop in the USA, when i was there on holiday. Everything on it runs fine, except for the temperature. When i play games, the temperature raises constantly, maxing at 98C. This cannot be normal! Now, I will have to pay for shipping to repair the laptop, if i choose to send it back to gateway.
So i have the following options:
A) Open things up and have a look myself, supposing the likelihood of a fault which i can easily fix. THis would void the warranty, probably.
B) Pay for shipping and send it back.
C) Send it to a local PC repair shop and see what they can do with it. Also voiding the warranty.
I only want to send the laptop back to gateway if the GPU itself is buggered, that seems right doesnt it? I can always replace fans/heatsinks here at minimal cost. What do you think the odds are that the actual GPU is at fault? -
deleted. the laptop lock seems kinda like it doesnt really lock it down so well, but i think im just paranoid.
the fan doesnt get on anyone elses nerves? ive never owned a laptop so i dunno if its typical or not. -
From my experience - it's annoying in the beginning but as time goes by you don't even notice it. That was the case with my 7811fx, which drove me nuts when I first got it but now I don't pay close attention.
-
Shipping the laptop is probably the last option on my list. Did you try to use a laptop cooler? If your video is good at lower temp then it's not "buggered".
There is always a possibility that the HSF on the GPU was not set properly. I really doubt if your warranty is void because you look at the inside.
Go the thread on the 7811X and see a tutorial about how to open up your laptop.
Good luck, -
I mentioned FSX earlier (I wiped Vista to install XPPro so I could still run FS9+add-ons) and how impressed I was with the performance of the 7805. After doing a bit of research, I think I can get FSX versions of most of my add-ons, so I'm seriously considering switching back to Vista (Ultimate 64 this time) and ditching FS9 completely. Which VA are you with?
-
When I was chatting with support about how to get the restore partition to activate on boot, they said ALT+F10 was the ticket. Except it didn't work, it just gave me the usual boot selection screen (like F10). They also told me to try F8, but that didn't work either. Their ultimate solution was to call and ask for 2nd level support and request a recovery disk, but they told me it would be about 15 days before I got it.
-
I've noticed that too. I tried installing itunes couple days ago and it froze the laptop. Haven't had a chance to investigate it further yet but can confirm that it is not a virus issue (ran an AVG scan already)
-
I think i know what the problem with my overheating GPU is! its my fan, its supposed to activate upon reaching 48C, but it really doesnt fully kick in, ever. All i get, and this is usually BEFORE 48C temp is hit, are these split-second momentual abrupt whirrs of the fan at high speed.
How do i turn it on permanently? Is there a prog i could use? Speedfan doesnt pick up the fan on my GPU. -
Do you think if i underclocked the GPU it would quite the fan? Are other laptops this loud? I've got no idea since i have never hard one. I hate to say it, but unless i get used to this, its kind of a deal breaker...the fan startles me pretty often!
-
My gpu reached 99c as monitered by hwmoniter. This occurred after playing Dead Space for 3 plus hours.
However, unknown to me, at some point while playing the power plug became disconnected and I was playing on battery power. I was running FRAPS to moniter my fps, which were in the high 70s. also the fan was on high and blowing out some fairly hot air. After a while I noticed the frame rates had dropped into the low 20s and the fan had slowed to almost idle speed. Shortly afterwards the computer shut down as the battery died.
i think hwmoniter recorded the 99c temp near the point that the battery was running out of power. Also affected was the frame rate.
I plugged the power plug back in and resumed playing for a couple of more hours. During this period hwmoniter
recorded a high gpu temp of 79c. This was much lower than before.
I dont know what the temp should actually be for this gpu while gaming.
i had Dead Space at 1920x1200 with all options on high.
I am sure the temp hit 99c because of the fan speed dropping due to the battery running out of power.
How high should the temp go on this gpu, anyone know? -
Do you think if i underclocked the GPU it would quite the fan? Are other laptops this loud? I've got no idea since i have never hard one. I hate to say it, but unless i get used to this, its kind of a deal breaker...the fan startles me pretty often!
i know it is less loud that my old desktop, but its annoying that its irregular. aside from this, can i somehow control it through the gpu menu or something? id hate to return this laptop, i really enjoy it. -
Not sure if theres a way to turn it on permanently, but when you say the fan always sounds off, is that even when its up in the 70C's and stuff or just when its under around 48C? under 50C my computer is almost silent.
Just use some earphones or keep your tv on or something.. I haven't heard the fan kick in within the last week or so, it probably has been, but I haven't been able to hear it over the tv or headphones.. So no bother to me.
Hmm how'd the cord come out? Mine plugs in pretty sturdy and takes a good amount of pressure to unplug it.
Also the temp depends alot on the room temperature. My room is usually around 65-70F and the CPU usually maxes around 68C after a few hours of gaming (CoD4 multiplayer all settings maxed, etc). -
I dont know what to do...maybe im just letting it get to me or something. if i go to best buy ill tell them that i think the gpu is overheating because the fan comes on super loud and then goes off every two minutes.
-
slightly dumb question, but if I have the best buy black tie warranty (overpriced but Ive learned my lesson with my 360) how much can I switch/tweak on this laptop? Like a 2nd harddrive, BD drive, more RAM, etc... ?
-
There are intake vents on the bottom of the P-7805u. If you are sitting and using it while its on your lap you will block the air coming in and for sure it will get hot.
As for the fan coming on and off this seems to be happening on all the 7805u's and I would consider it normal for this laptop. -
Honestly anything reversible shouldn't matter if you keep the parts. And technically speaking the hard drives, ram, and optical drive are all user replaceable components anyways. It doesn't say warranty void if you open this compartment anywhere that I saw, but then again I didn't read the manual...
-
I think the cord came out when I moved the laptop on the table. I must have not noticed it. It does plug in securely. Wife needed more room so I just shifted the unit
towards me a bit. However the battery will stop it from fully plugging in depending on the angle of the plug. -
its not sitting on my lap though, its on a cold desk in a cold room heh. i will see what they say...im getting used to it though, i think. it may be normal for this laptop but i still think its a problem and kind of ridiculous.

Hello all.
I picked up this notebook today. I have the 1920x1200 screen. I've been having an issue where the display starts showing artifacts and/or loses focus at times.
After switching back to windows basic scheme and got the beta nvidia drivers I seem to be doing ok. I played LOTR: Return of the King streaming off netflix for about half an hour. However I've noted problems still while playing dvd in full version. The notebook crashed while watching a dvd in full screen with windows media center. I put VLC player on and noted the same problem so I just played it in window mode with the player taking up most of the screen and it only happened every so often.
I've tried wwiionline offline and get 100+ fps without any artifacting. I tried downloading Sword of the Stars(legal from a digital provider) and playing that to see what happened but the install errors out.
Someone here posted about EVE looking great on this and I had a DOH moment because I forgot about that game. So I'm downloading it to see how it works out.
I really like the laptop and not sure I want to give it up and get stuck with one of the 1440s. Which is a surprise because I've always been stuck at 1024x768.
Any ideas on how to reduce artifacting?
Thanks for putting up with a long winded first post. This is a fascinating forum and a lot of good info stored here. -
http://www.cpuid.com/download/HWMonitor64_112.zip
download and run that and see what your temps are doing, some people have been getting overheating GPU problems, presumably from poor heatsink installation. HWMonitor lets you monitor temps and logs the highest temp seen so you don't have to tab in and out of games to check temps. -
Oh okay. Yeah cause I know my cord doesn't come out without a good amount of pressure. Though what you said about the battery blocking it in a certain position is true, and if you turn the laptop enough and the plug catches on the battery it could possibly pop it out.
I just stay on the right side of where the PSU is plugged in so its always turned away from the battery
The fan kicking in I doubt you'll be able to get fixed no matter who you call/ go to. Its completely normal for most of the Gateway FX series laptops.
What're your max temps? (Can't remember if you posted them or not) -
http://www.amazon.com/Swiss-Gear-SA...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232606214&sr=1-20
Hmm you guys think that would fit our babies? Good price at the moment (Got an email from Amazon saying its a blowout sale for swissgear backpacks)
What do you guys think? -
Yes, i have checked and rechecked, after hitting 50C, my GPU fan still doesnt kick in in a high powered way. Not even the random bursts of speed that happen before that. My laptop is just as quiet as it reaches 80C and 90C, as it is at 40C. I think its my GPU fan controller. How do i fix it? Because the fan itself seems to be working...i do get those random fan whirrs that everyone acknowledges, which means my fan is capable of spinning at high speed, it just doesnt do so at higher temperatures, like its supposed to! Any attempts at solutions will be greatly appreciated, and save me a whole packet of shipping cash to the US! Thanks in advance....
-
From reading reviews of the other styles (Still same size) people are saying that the bag wont even fit a 15.4" widescreen HP.. I'd almost bet it wont fit ours. Great deal though, its a shame, i got pumped for a few.
-
You have a temperature sensor problem. Whether it's hardware or software, one cannot tell. Your fan is working.
I used rivatuner which has a feature called fan control. You can create many fan profiles, i.e. turn fan on when temp reaches certain temp. Rivatuner is used for OC the GPU but I used it to control fan noise also. There are tutorials and download at the guru3d site.
If your problem is hardware related then rivatuner is not your solution. -
Why cant i see the last page? I'm getting 500 server Error. Weird...
-
I tried rivatuner...for some reason i dont see the Fan tab! It says it doesnt support my GPU when i open it up. Maybe using the dox driver will help? And did you manage to change your fan settings of the p7805u?
-
The NBR forum servers crash quite often (very often, as a matter of fact). Takes a couple of minutes for them to boot back up.
-
can anyone tell me the exact Ethernet controller on the p7805? I installed windows 7 and it's missing
somehow got it working
