I've installed Daemon tools and for some reason it added a E: HD DVD Drive to my devices??? why would it do that? And i tried wiking what Daemon tools was, but i still don't completely understand it.. from my reading, is it a way to bypass certain security things on DVDs/CDs? i.e. does it let you burn any cd/dvd?
-
never mind upon further research i kinda got the idea of what it does.. i.e. download an ISO, then mount it to the "fake" dvd rom drive, the ISO thinks its being ran off a cd, boom you can install and play games w/ out having a disc
-
Woops I'm sorry Zak.
How would I go about removing that thread than? Don't wanna make the mods mad with two of the same titled threads
-
Well we could try to get it to die and do it simply like that
. But ionno, I will try to see who is a mod and link you to their profile.
edit: Alright, go down to "Other Devices" and right under there it says Forum Leaders, I donno who can do what, but I guess the mods can delete threads, so then just go there and find one that is on
-
Uh where do you see Other devices? Searched all over lol
-
It's on the bottom of the forums.
-
You must mean next to Display Options where it lists the Mods.
Only one I see is Lowlymarie.
Message her? -
Okay so I cant get the newest drivers from nvidia it says the file is not sound. anyone know where I can get them?
As well I was wondering what should thae core clock speed, the shader clock speed and the memory clock speed be running idle? -
try Laptopvideo2go.com ?
600/799/1500 -
Which ones do you use SemiGamer and how did you overclock your GPU? I tried to install the 181.20 for 64 bit Vista but it gave me an error saying that it doesnt work with my hardware
weird!!.....ohh wait am I suppose to use the PDsetup and not setup?
Also with the video card is downclocks itself by half when Im just messing around the net and whatever I havent tried gaming yet as I am still installing games on my system. Anyways to take control of it myself?
Also Im only getting a 3Dmark06 score of like 8550 -
There are two clocks... one for 2D stuff, one for 3d stuff. When you overclock, you're actually changing only the max clocks when 3d stuffs are happening. Nvidia's been like that since the 6xxx Series...or probably even older....
-
I'm using these: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22670
Though they're Gaming drivers and I do not recommend them if your not going to be gaming regularly. Since they're customized for gaming, they may mess up some non-gaming features of a system. So its completely up to you rather you would like to use gaming drivers or not.
And for overclocking,
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=342096
theres a guide.
EDIT: Also your "downclocking" could be what bravoxeo said, or it could be simply the power plan profile you have it set on.. I can almost assure you its not on High Performance .. -
Im looking for a notebook cooler (do you think its necesary with this lap?) that fits my 7805, im between the aeolus cp001 the ZALMAN NC2000 and the NZXT CRYO, which one you think its better? will the 7805 fit in them?
-
I donno, whoever that is a mod/admin or gateway mod
-
Looking to buy my first laptop... to use with Photoshop/LightRoom and AutoCad.
Saw the 7805U at BB and fell in love with the keyboard and screen and it's powerful inside.
Found your thread and appreciate all the comments about the machine.
Can't find info about it's battery life.
Can anyone tell me .... what's the battery life on its 9-cell lithium-ion battery?
Thanks -
I use my battery a lot.. i mean a lot.. and I get a good 2 1/2 hrs on battery w/ balanced mode, and 3 hrs w/ power saver running non stop.
-
Yeah I get about the same. I don't run it on battery much though, just did a couple times to see how long it'd go
-
Anyone having a problem burning dual layered DVD on these things? I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 and it had a failed burn while on my desktop no problem
-
For the internet, on power saver you can get 4 hrs and 30 minutes, that's saying 30 minutes per 10%, and I am saving 10% because I think it shuts down at 7 or 5 %.
-
I haven't tried but I was planning to in the next couple days... Can someone let us know if it works and its just strifes system or is it all of them?
Also strife, try Imgburn to burn them.
Thanks zak, good to know that.
Btw you can set when you want it to shut down, its set at 5% at default. -
Why imgburn? I have never had a problem with DVD Shrink or CloneDVD2. I would like to hear your results when you get them. I have tried a single layed DVD yet I will tommrrow.
-
Oh okay. I just suggested Imgburn because its the program I've always used with all my other systems so figured might be worth a try. Whats it do when you try to burn it?
-
It says something like the media failed to burn. It was able to copy the disc just not burn it and I left the computer alone while it did its thing.
-
I just wanted to share some info on the panels with the big splotches of white ghosting. I remember reading a post somewhere where a gent mentioned he used a cloth to rub out the ghosting. Well, I was cleaning the monitor, and I decided to wipe the screen from left to right, and I managed to cause the blotch to ripple to the end of the screen, so now 95% of it is gone, and is barely seen on the right edge, whereas before it was about 30% of my screen area on the left side. So apparently the ghosting is being created by a layer of the panel rippling. If you smooth it out, it will go away.
-
Eh, really, try Imgburn. All systems work on some programs better than others
They say the white splotching is caused by air bubbles. Think of it as when your tinting car windows or putting a screen protector on your handheld gaming device. Easy to get rid of the bubbles on those, but with laptop screens, since they're sealed at the ends, the most you can do is push all the air to the end where it will stay (Just like where it is on yours now). So its no big deal, don't worry

I'm on board with everyone else who has drunk the Kool-Aid of the 7805u, but I have a quick question if someone is able to answer:
I installed SpeedFan just to see what sort of temperatures I'm getting while simply surfing the internet: the CPU cores hover between 34C-40C, the HDD around 40C-43C and the GPU between 43C-50C. Are these on par with what's normal for this machine?
Also, about every 90 seconds the GPU seems to reach 50C, then the fan kicks in and brings it back down to around 43C, then it climbs back up to 50C and the fan kicks in again, seemingly ad infinitum. There were two replies saying that 50C was the mark at which the fan kicks in, but does this happen every 1-2 minutes for others, as well? -
I've seen it posted before, but had no luck searching for it, so here goes a familiar question...
Does anyone know which HDD is recommended for the P-7805u? I'm not going the RAID route, just want to add a second drive to try out Windows 7 Beta. Also, if there's any posts that have pictures of how to add a 2nd HDD, that would really help as well. Thanks in advance. -
Just playing on the internet and not gaming I run around 111F for the cpu, gpu diode, and hard drive. I am using Everest for my stats. -
The room temperature has alot to do with what heat levels your components will run at. those look perfectly fine. And yeah, the fan comes on whenever the GPU hits 50c, no matter what
(Mine just did it as i was typing this)
You're temperatures are perfectly fine

Does someone finally have an 1440*900 screen? Because I'm from Uruguay, I have bought it from Mexico, it will arrive in one month. The seller description says "1920*1200" but in gateway.com says 1440*900. So, what happened? Sorry if you have answered it earlier, you would understand I can't read 208 pages
-
I don't remember this information: how the USB slots are placed? Left, right, or back?
-
USB ports are 2 near the back of the left side and 1 in the middle of the right side.
-
That is very good. I was afraid they are all 3 in the right mind when using a USB mouse
-
Yeah there has been plenty sold with 1440x900 now. Only way it would be a 1920x1200 if its an old batch that where ever you got it from had for awhile. The new ones are mostly 1440x900.
-
d23gas -
Which "seller description" shows 1920 x 1200? -
After undervolting my CPU, it idels around 24-26 Celsius.
I'm still looking for a way to underclock the GPU quickly for when I'm just in class and doing note-taking, using the internet, and slide-reading.
Any suggestions? -
Has anyone tried Dawn of War 2 beta on the 7805u?
with everything on max and resolution at 1400x900, the game kinda feels clunky and laggy... which I think shouldn't be.
I ran fraps, and I'm getting around 30-35 fps on average. I forced vsync off in the nvidia control panel.
Anyone getting the same thing? -
I bought it from MercadoLibre Mexico. http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx...i1525-140b-webcam-2-x24ghz-3gb-core-2-duo-_JM
-
Is this still one of the best notebooks for the money? Is there any other options for around $1200. looking to buy a notebook in the next month, with a 1920x1200 res. with around the same specs. the only one I have found that is close is Qosmio x305. but the display is to low for my use.
What is the max CPU you are able to upgrade to on this notebook, can any of these be added x9000, x9100 QX9300?
is the memory max 4gb or 8gb. I know they say 4gb but sometimes they are still upgradeable past that. I want to know how far this notebook can be upgraded to the MAX! also can this notebook be overclocked? or is it locked?
Not sure if I should wait a bit to buy a new notebook.
in over 200 posts i'm sure these have been answered. Sorry for that.
if there are posts you could forward me to them. thankyou. or be answered please. Thanks for any help. I am stuck if I should wait for the tri-channel memory notebooks. -
X9100 3ghz dual core is the max, no quad cores work
no one knows if 8gb will work, and frankly if you need 8gb buy a notebook that uses DDR2, 2x4GB kits of DDR3 cost 1000 bucks right now.
There's also no guarantee you'll get a 1920x1200 with this model anymore, it's supposed to be 1440x900 per the specs but many early ones and some later ones are still coming with the 1920x1200 screen. Newegg just cut the price of the 7801 to like 1199 and those ALL have 1920x1200 screens. -
Anyone attempt to install WinXP on this machine?
-
I'm running XP on mine. I just followed the instructions in the 7811FX windows xp "upgrade" thread. There are a few issues though, the mic for the webcam doesnt work, the audio requires some messing around to get working and its really not that elegant of a solution so far. The Esata port definitely doesn't work with the computer in IDE compatability mode, and thus far no one has tested it in AHCI mode that I've seen. The "hotstart" buttons don't work as well as you might hope either, the music note and DVD buttons dont work at all and the play/pause button is sorta buggy. Everything else works fine.
-
Thanks for the input.
I have been searching and found that the P-7805u MSI GT725 or GT727 might be better for me Because you can overclock it, I know it's more but sounds better for the investment if 'm going to have this for years, I would like to have a ATI because I have always had good luck with them.
At some point the ddr3 memory will have to make a difference also.
I wish the Gateways were easy to overclock.
anyone know the exact model numbers for the MSI GT725 or GT727 and the main difference between them?
are all cpu's overclockable if you upgrade to a x9100 or something at a later time on the MSI's? -
Might want to check out the MSI thread, Since most of us here (Gateway'ers) don't know as much about them (We know more about gateways, they over at the MSI forum knows more about MSI's, of course
)
-
Thanks, kind of discouraging tho.
-
Interesting - their description does not match the one at Gateway h e r e.
Gateway's specs, one would assume, should be correct, but as we all know they shipped many 5u's with WUXGA screens.
I would say if what you got did not have the 1920 x 1200 screen you would have a reason to return it since it is not what the Mercadolibre website told you you would get. -
I know we discussed this not being an MSI thread, but as someone who considered the 725 I'll give you what I know about it:
mobile 4850 is supposed to be faster, though the benches i saw weren't that impressive (9300 with a P9600(? something in that area) and just over 10k with a x9100). Depending on what you use it for DDR2 may be an advantage, because I believe 8GB of DDR2 is quite a bit cheaper than DDR3 SODIMMS (1000 bucks right now). The 725 comes in two flavors, the 074 and 075, the 074 has a 1680x1050 screen, p8400(?) and a dvd/rw, current price i saw was 1350. The 75 was 1600 or so, has 1920x1200, p9600 and bluray as I remember. You can find them on Amazon for pre-order, and I think the MSI site has the specs for the available configs. -

I have a 7805 and i got a 4959 on the 3dmark. Why is it so low? I tried changing the power settings to performance and I slighly OC'd the GPU. Any ideas?
