Quick question, does this system come with 32bit or 64bit Vista?
And has anyone tried the usual games, such as CoD4, Crysis, Etc?
Also which Wifi card does it come with? 5100 like the box says or is that a misprint too?

All the new Gateway FX's come with a VGateway Vista 32/64bit, I have ran all the listed games on Vista 64bit with zero problems, heck I play Everquest 2 on vista 64 bit.

What is a 5100 wifi card?

Can't wait, going to go tomorrow..though in NY it seems they are always strict about street dates...though I did get Call of Duty WaW a day before release and they were even selling before that :D. I was sort of thinking of waiting and get the 2.4 ghz processor they put up on the site...but since I can upgrade the CPU, might as well get it while it is dirt cheap.

the intel 5100 is not the greatest card as it only has 2 antennas (4965 and 5300 both have 3 antennas) so the throughput is lower

    the newer series penryn processors i.e. P8600, P9500, T9400, T9600, T9800, X9100...and if you are really daring the Q9100 (2.26ghz quad core) and QX9300 (2.53ghz quad core)

i dont know for sure about the 2 quad cores being supported, or if it would fit underneath the heatsink, but if you really wanted to find out and report back with results it would be much appreciated! ;)

edit...give me 1 more post to respond to, please!?

So do you guys think this thing will be worth it? Or do you think it's still going to be having the problems and we'll all be returning it within the 14days? lol

My 7805u came with Vista home premium 64 bit and runs with no problem so far.

diablo85, I see you have a T9300 cpu, what is the one you would recommend now. The quads are too rich for my blood right now.

The 7805u is not even listed on the Gateway site for product registration. So do we need to register?

I would think that the mobo is the same as Newegg's. I would think word would have been out if someone got a quad core chip to work in it.

I thiink this laptop seems to scream 2nd generation FX. It is an awesome price for what can be considered a tricked out NEW 7811 at a great price. I would not consider it to be a refresh however.

That said I am on the fence. I just got a refurbed 7811 and am very happy to hear that the FX series is not dead. I had been told that Gateway was discontinuing its "enthusiast" line up. I really hope that this shows that and it is not a case of Gateway getting rid of old inventory/parts.

Dang-it. I just bought the 7811 in September for 1150 at BB.

You think it's worth upgrading to this one and then selling the 7811? I'm already running RAID 0 with 2x320gb hdd. All I'd be getting would be a shiny new exterior and the extra 512mb video ram. Then I'd have to figure out how to sell the 7811. The 7811's go on ebay for about $1,000, minus fees, I'm looking at $950 vs $1049+tax, so I'd be spending roughly $150 for the extra video ram. Worth it? Opinions?

I got to stop looking at this forum :p I was happy with my 6831 until I saw this, for the price point I just couldn't pass it up.

Will the extra 512mb of video ram make a difference at the 1920x1200 resolution between this and the 7811?

So what do you think? Is it worth the risk of buying this one and trying to ebay my 7811? I'd pretty much be risking about a $100-150 loss (at worst) and breaking even (at best) for just 512mb video ram. I have 2 320gb hdd in raid 0 so the upgraded HD does me no good.

I guess the question is, is the performance of an extra 512mb at the 1920x1200 resolution worth $100? Gut feeling says probably not. Thoughts?

there are no immidiate benefits to the extra 512mb on the gpu.
maybe future games will utilize it but at the moment the only difference is that 1gb gpus do not oc as good as 512mb gpus.

a user with a 7801u (1gb gpu) run 3dmark06 on gpu and got the exact same score like a 7811 (512). there is a thread about it. somewhere.
