Do you guys think the new batch will be the same as the old one? After all they may revert back to their old specifications listed on the box

I would not think that they would do this, plus Best Buy has a return policy if it is not the display you were expecting.

That's what I want to know. The specs for the 7807 on Gatway's website lists the screen as 1440x900.

So the difference between the 7807 and 7805 is the CPU (according to Gateway's website for the 7807), both screens are supposed to be 1440x900 (based on the Best Buy box specs of the 7805.) But yet in actuality the 7805 has a slower CPU than the 7807 but a better screen? This is odd.

This will be the risk in getting the p-7805u 's new batches. It's been confirmed that the old batches were like the 7801, but the new ones' specs are still unknown.

Question: Can I purchase the extended warranty still from BB even though I already purchased the 7805u last Friday?

I think You have 14 days to buy it. But call up your Credit Card company before you do it. My credit card company has an extended warranty plan if purchased using it. it will be like (1 yr Gateway + 1 yr Mastercard) = 2 yrs full warranty

I have been hunting for days to find one of these in stock at Best Buy, with no luck. I ended up going into the store and placed an order for one. It's supposed to arrive this weekend.

At least I know I'm getting one. The question is will it really come in this weekend or not? My gut tells me no.

Yes you can, but i would wait. I was going to get a warranty for the laptop yesterday from Geeksquad but came across a possbile flaw with the warranty. Because the laptop spec says it is 1400x900 if the screen is damaged and replaced will they replace the screen with 1920x1200 reso (that it originally came with) or with the specified spec of 1400x900.... I asked the employees but no one could give me a postive answer. So i am going to wait to see what the actual specs are on the gateway before i spend money on the warranty.

I just called BB again today. My local BB is getting 5 :D yesterday 1 rep told me to check back tonight before closing, but when I called in this morning a female rep told me that the gateways will probably arrive next tuesday

Besides the waiting time, the worry that they might change the specs on the new batch is also killing me :p

No luck for me. Called a bunch of BB's nearby and one said they had them in stock. I drove over there but when I got there, they said they were out. Thinking they had been sold out, I drove to another one nearby just to check it out. They informed me that the first BB I went to had them. I went back and they gave me some crap about how their inventory system is messed up because of the holiday season. Jigga pleeeaze.

Wow!!! NICE! I called my CC company (Chase) and it has that too, free of charge! Awesome. Now I feel better that my 1 year warranty on a shady Gateway computer is extended to 2 years! Sweetness. Thank you! :D

Well, I went to a different best buy today and they had none in stock but the rep was able to order one. Not sure why I couldn't of ordered it at the other best buy a couple days ago. Anyways it's suppose to be here on saturday, I tried to get it sooner but to no avail.
I guess its coming from the warehouse, as thats the comment left on the order sheet I received.
Only part that sucks for me is, I'm leaving on friday and wont be able to play with it saturday when the wife picks it up.

I have a Visa platinum plus. I really want to see if I qualify for the extended warranty and what I have to do to redeem it if I am. Major thanks if anyone can help me out.

like others have mentioned in the prior posts, I am also wondering if the "wrong" specs would be a loophole that will enable gateway to use a lower spec hardware should the need for warranty arises. Also, the question of what spec the new batches are going to have is still yet to be answered. It seems that most BB stores have already sold out their first batches and are waiting for inbounds from the warehouses.

Got mine today, had one left in stock after going to two different stores :p

So what do you guys suggest I do with it now?
It came with Norton 360 and Microsoft Office 60day Trial.
Do I need any of those?
First time Vista user so not sure what to keep or delete.
Also theres alot of Adobe stuff on it. keep or remove that stuff?
    Thanks.
Also how do I know what drivers I have for the Video card?
(p.s Mine is 1920x1200 as well)

One thing though, the harddrive is showing 260GB free of 288GB. Whats up with that?

Uninstall the Norton stuff and get a better product such as Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 from www.trendmicro.com

Also download for free, install and use CCleaner from www.ccleaner.com to run the Cleaner and the Registry utility.

Look this over for some great suggestions also: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166532

    From one of my earlier posts;

Well the first to do is create a gateway driver backup CD, It shows you how in your owners manual, real easy. Next go here http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ download pcdecrapifier, it will uninstall all the bloatware crap without doing a full reinstall. Next go here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers for your latest video drivers, look on the forums for the best drivers others are using, I am currently using the dox 180.84 get it here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=22262 it works great, and has the extra desktop files removed, not needed for a lappy. If you need a great (Free) AV get AVG 8.0 free, works great, lite on system usage, recommended by many computer mags, get it here http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe . Also for spy-ware try spybot S&D, get it here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html . And last but not least, games, thats why you bought this bad @#$ lappy, I play Everquest 2, Fallout 3, Cyrsis, COD (all versions), all on high settings. Don't for get to get some kind if stand or cooler to keep you lappy happy I use a cheap wire frame stand from Walmart, it cost around $16.00 (rubbermaid), look in the office supply area. Get a good gaming mouse also, I look Logitech, this company stands behind their product, I have had very little problems with many items, when I do, they are more than welling to help with a exchange or replacement. I use the Logitech G5 mouse, I still am not sold on wireless for gaming, I know the G7 is a nice mouse. I use a Logitech G15 Keyboard, feels nice, lots of bells and whistles. I use a 22" LCD monitor also, you get the best for both worlds, desktop performance, and grab and go for lan parties. I know I rambled on and on, but I hope this helps.

Wish I'd read that post before I installed stuff.....
So far I installed: CoD4, Firefox, AIM, Yahoo, HWmonitor, Flash player, CCleaner.
If I make a backup will it erase all that?
I'm guessing Decrapifier might erase all of that as well?

Also, only thing I have a problem with is my harddrive says 260GB free of 288GB..
    And its a 320GB HDD..
    Hmm?

P.S. It is a 1920x1200 Screen like you have all listed.

edit: man it is disgusting someone is already selling theirs on ebay for 1250...another on craigslist for 1.3k..hate when people buy it just to resell it..

    Zakattack:
Did you have them search nearby stores?
    Heres my story:
I went to the first bestbuy 5minutes from me, went in and had him search the SKU number, found 0 in the store. Told him to look up local stores inventory and two stores popped up with 1 showing. He had closed it before I could read the names of the store and said "They're usually the display ones, if you go there you'll waste your time"
After he said that I asked for the store locations anyway and he insisted I was going to waste my time, After I insisted that he gave me the locations, he got an attitude and searched it again and gave me the names (Knew the stores).

Went to one of them that had one in stock and this is the gimmick I came up with to prevent them from looking at the release date:
Stored the SKU number from you guys onto my phone as a text.
Went in, told them my cousin was at a bestbuy in PA (a bestbuy thats out of the area incase I had to have them search local stores in NJ).
Told them they just sold the last one while he was in there and I went in there since I was driving by to see if they have any that I could get for him than give it to him.
Then opened my phone and told the salesman "Here is the SKU number the salesman at the PA store gave my cousin". While he was looking at it, I kept talking to him as someone on here suggested so he didn't hit "Additional Information".
    Worked well.
Gave it to him, he looked it up, found one available but it wasn't in sight on the floor.
He got another guy to look in the back, within seconds he walked out with it and I was out in 2minutes after that.

THAN I installed HWmonitor and turned it on.
So those temps are from about the computer being on 30minutes, than installed AIM, Ccleaner, Etc. And those are my temps at the moment.

The memory score is probably due to the fact that it's DDR3 1066, just my 2 pennies.

    Yeah. I was guessing that.
So far I like this computer alot.
    Very speedy.
I do have that burst of fan everyone posted but it doesn't bother me.
I'm still getting used to Vista but it's not that bad in my eyes.
Still don't fully know how to use Vista though. Time will help..

    Cons found so far:
The left click is a bit loud and the button feels cheap.
I've been tapping the touchpad to click because of it.
Hate how the FN and Control key is switched. But like the fact that it has two Fn keys (one on the bottom left, one on the right with the arrow keys) So its easy to use one hand and use a Fn combo.
Like others have said, the Orange number keys is a bit annoying in low light, but I can type numbers just by feel on on keyboards so its no biggy ( I look at the box im typing into on the screen, never the keyboard)

I could be mistaken but I thought the 7811 had DDR3 800, according to NBR's review of it: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4614

First thing's first... I'm TOTALLY stoked I found this laptop after having called over 10 BB's. I rush home, feeling like a little kid for the first time in a while. AND THEN, much to my shock and disgust, a loud fan noise! It's not a "whirring", more like a "clicking" noise. I REALLY don't think it's normal and it's worrying me like crazy. Does anyone else have this kind of thing?

Of note, I hear a "whirring" fan noise on the right side. On the left side, however, the fan comes on and off and it sounds like something is hitting the fan. Derno though.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing.
But mine made a clicking noise when I first booted it.
Hasn't happened since and I've been using it for about 3+ hours now.

    Thanks for the response.

I think a "vibration" is a more appropriate description, especially when it's going at high speed.

Do I need to summon Gateway support already? =\

Sorry to hear that, your best option is to summon up the energy, drive around with this thing packed up in the trunk and find another BB with stock. Once you find it, bring it in, complain and get an exchange. Best of luck.

P.S. As mentioned in this thread, don't call around, you won't get correct information, personally go down to the store and either ask them to look up the product number, or check the cages yourself.

Has anyone figured out what the "Smart Audio" is in the controll panel, I know that this model has nvidia HDMI Output, I have no idea what that does, but I wonder if I can install it on my other FX's :)
