Hey guys, I just received my 7805u refurb from TD as well and I have a question for you all, I currently have a P6860FX with T9600, 8GB ram, should I bother swapping the P8400 CPU in the P7805u to the T9600? is the T9600 significantly faster even tho it runs at 800mhz compared to 1066mhz of the P8400?
Also read the 9800m GTS 1GB is really a G94 core instead of a G92 in the 8800m GTS, is the 9800m GTS still significantly faster than the G92 core?
Lastly should I keep the P6860FX with the T9600 and 8GB of DDR2 ram or go for the P7805u with the T9600(or stock P8400) and 4GB DDR3? what do you guys think?

Thank you guys in advance for the help.

I beleive most of the hardware in these beasts are too advanced for Windows to completely utilize anyways. I could be wrong though. Someone told me this about the RAM. But that could all change after windows 7 or azure.

DDR2 and DDR3 have different slots. Your are stuck with DDR3 which is faster than DDR2 anyway. So you can Not downgrade to DDR2. Like someone else said, the hardware is ahead of the OS anyway. And The CPU's can't 'really' keep up with the RAM, even DDR2 in some cases. It'll all catch up one day. When we have 64Gb RAM and CPU's at 35Ghz with 8Tb hard drives. It'll be here soon...........

Hey guys, I got this laptop on Wednesday but am having some issues. Everytime I try to use the HDMI port to hook it to my TV I get a BSOD. The TV I am using is an Envision 32" LCD TV. Whenever the HDMI cable is inserted into the laptop it goes to BSOD and says..

A Problem has been detected and windows has been .. (I took a picture and can't read the rest on this line)

    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

it then reboot the computer and Windows comes up with the mode to repair itself. It says that it has to go back to a previous restore point. I can't even get booted into Vista with the HDMI cable plugged in. If I wait until Windows boots up and then insert the HDMI cable, it immediately goes to the blue screen as well. Anyone know a solution to this problem? I need to find out quickly since I think BB only offers a 2 week return period for in-store. I saw another thread on this but no one had replied. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this was one of the main reasons I bought the laptop! Unfortunately I don't have any other OS's or TV's to try it out on. And for the record, I have tried both HDMI ports on my tv. I currently have a HD DVD player and PS3 hooked into the ports and both of them work fine therefore I know there isn't a problem with the cable or HDMI ports on the TV.

The only way mine crashes is from overheating. OC'd to play Trackmania at 1920 x 1200. Looks gorgeous but I can get only 30 mins max before it overheats. I even have a laptop cooler! LOL. So ur saying this just freezes even without games or heating of any kind?? Damn. Can anyone confirm this...

So I just got a P-7805u and I was having a slight problem with it. It seems as though when ever I'm streaming HD content (gametrailer's "Bonus Round" particularly) or when ever I'm gaming for a long time and then exit the game I get this weird problem. I start getting tears in the screen, they appear as lines of "fuzz" flashing on the screen. It continues to get worse and them sometimes the fuzz will fill the screen and lock up the computer, or the computer will just lock up entirely. I'm reluctant to bring it back to BB becasue I have the WUXGA screen and don't want to risk it, I've also just finished getting all my games and data on it. Anyone know whats going on? Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

thats similar to what happens to mine, but when it fills the screen it goes blank for 1 second and and popup message shows driver nkv***somethin has failed and needed to be restarted (no blue screen or restart), then it keeps on working normally, no lockups or anything. I haven't tried a new driver but im thinking that's the issue with my gateway, you might want to try a different driver.

Does anyone know if the SPDIF is optical? I tried non optical and had no luck (Under windows 7) so I am thinking it might be optical. Also does anyone have HDMI audio working to a receiver under windows 7 (to the TV is fine)?
    Thanks,

PS My bluetooth upgrade is coming. After that I plan to do blu-ray then add a HDD. Any other suggestions, maybe something for my open mini pci slot?

Got this computer a week ago. Just like everyone else the fan kicks in when my GPU temperature hits about 47C and stays on until it hits about 41-42C then cuts off. But what I'm wondering is, anyone with this computer, is the right side vent fan always on for you, mines on at all times but is VERY VERY VERY slow and VERY VERY quiet, was just wondering if this was normal for p-7805u owners.

Hello all, I have an odd issue I want to know if their is any kowledge about it out there. In windows vista I push the shutdown button via start menu or the actual button to shut down normaly, but 80% of the time the computer restarts instead of actually shutting down. This is the only issue I have had with this computer. Any help would be appriciated.

Anyone who has the 1920 x 1200 screen notice whites on the left side arent as white, they kind of have a blueish tint to them? while the whites on the right side are really nice and bright?

When I have the web browser maxmized and on a site like this or yahoo. Whites on the left arent as White as the right side. The left side is alittle dimmer then the right side. Its not a huge problem but its noticable.

This is a refurbished unit so How does delll handle there warranty's?

I was thinking about upgrading the CPU in my P-7805U to the T9600. Has anybody done that? Your battery will drain quicker because of the 35W instead of the 25W. Do you lose a lot of battery time with the 10W increase? I just upgraded the hard drive to the new 500GB that runs 7200 RPM.

    Hi Dmevid,

I didn't notice any changes in draining the battery quicker than with stock processor. Well maybe five to ten minutes so don't worry about it. The temps are also the same, thanks to ICD7 compound. At idle 23-31C and under the load 60-65C.

    Hope it helps...cheers...

The way I got it was by saying that I would buy the floor model that had the 1920 screen for ticket price because after the stock was out on the others they would sell the floor model for 15% off anyways. That way they make an extra 200 bucks and you get a guaranteed high res screen. Mine came with a busted space bar but I got the warranty so I'm gonna send it in soon. It was the only way for me to guarantee the high res. They may not even have a 1920 on the floor but good chances they will because it's pretty much a bait n switch. They showcase the high res and then sell you the 1440. But because it was gateway's fault for shipping the high res screens in the first place they can claim that "they didn't know". I wouldn't take my chances buying a new one and crossing your fingers if you're that determined.

EDIT: For anyone interested, someone finally figured out the Ubuntu - Gateway mess for this thing.

looking to pimp my nice 1900x1200 7805 out.

thinking, blu-ray, 2nd HD (scorpio black) and a new CPU. also considering 2 4GB RAM sticks - need it for audio production. that ill prolly cost me more then another laptop tho.....doh lol

i've read the P9600 is probably the overall best bang unless you just want to spend a ton of money for a bit faster. 2 4 gig sticks is going to be very financially painful.

Seems to be pretty normal among P-7805u owners. Mine does it. When the laptop is fully charged and not using much power, my power brick will hiss.

When it's not fully charged, or when the laptop is using a lot of power (like gaming), then the power brick is putting all the power through, which stops the hissing.

i bought a 7805, and its power spully did the same thing, a high pitched hum.

i eventually returned it becuase the display had terrible ghosting and blotching, but the seconf 7805 i got was from a later batch, still the 1900x1200, and a different power supply. this one is absolutely silent and doens't get as hot.

different design, too. things that make you go "hmmmmm"
