Does anyone else have an annoying high pitch gpu fan noise when the fan stops spinning?

I am jumping in real late, but I just purchased my P-7805u from BestBuy and the 3 year accidental coverage cost me $270. By the way, I recommended a friend buy their HP Pavillion at BestBuy and she has used the warranty 3 times already in less than 6 months. This last time her 160GB HD was supposedly "dying" and they gave her a 320GB HD. I slapped the extra 160GB (they gave it back to her) into the second HD bay and it is working just fine.

More than six months of wireless issues with Vista and I think you just solved what no one else (or hundreds of pages worth of google searches) would solve! One less reason for me to hate Vista. (Any solutions on the DHCP issues? Does not like SonicWalls much)

These forums have often helped me out. I'm glad I could 'Pay It Forward'.
-
Now that I actually received mine, I will share this EXCELLENT opportunity/deal.
BestBuy has advertised the P-7805u for $899.99 if ordered online. It is part of the "Outlet" store. What I did not realize is that the stores price things differently! When I ordered my laptop from my local BestBuy the price came out to $576.
I have not finished setting it up, but thought I owed it to those in this forum because the feedback here is what made me decide to go with this model.
By the way, it is clear that my laptop was brand new. I will check to see which display I have once I set it up and get back to this forum.
Best,
Alfred -
UPDATE: Display is 1440 x 900. The hardware ID of the display is: LPLA103
Alfred -
Whoa 576?? Did you call them before hand? Also was it just that store or multiple stores.
-

Wow thats an amazing price. You can upgrade the thing fully and barely break 1K -
I called my local store to see if they happened to have one in stock (I figured they did not) and also because I wanted the 3 year accident and I was only offered 2 years of standard extended warranty. I gave the rep the sku and she gave me a price of $574.99 and $269.99 for the 3 year. I must have verified the SKU and specs a dozen times with her...
I have it here. No fan noise, but it appears to be the printed specs for the display. One thing interesting i that the DVD drive has Labelflash built in... (Was this standard on the previous batches?)
Alfred -
Did it show as "unavailable" for your store online before you called?
-
They are not available at any stores, they are an outlet item. But the local stores can order outlet items...

Yeah labelflash was on the originals
-
Ok, so just that I can get clarification:
There's a chance that I could go down to bestbuy, ask them to order this computer
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827
and they may, or may not come back with the same price as you? -
It'll probably depend on the people working there. But it's worth a shot
-
No you cannot. It is no longer being shipped. For outlet items, it needs to not say "Not Available for Shipping;" this means its out at the DC
-
i have a question. im using dox 185.68 driver and running on win 7. is there a way to run games on full speed without plugging the ac adapter?

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Yes as stated below. But why would you want to? It will eat your battery soooo fast. And the more cycles you put on a rechargeable battery, the shorter the life of it. Plus you know you're getting top performance on A/C. Just MHO.....
Yes, it works. -
I probably waltzed right over it but does anyone have any helpful hints for those about to upgrade to Windows 7?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -
Here you go :
Pop in the CD

So there won't be any desperate searches for obscure drivers? Sweet.
Thanks. -
You'll need the vista x64 driver for the SD Card reader, that was the only device I found not to work right off the bat.
-
Thanks for the info. Now just to remember to backup all the documents.

Stupid webcam! Mine won't work. That's my only prob. I never use it but still want it to be right. Any help out there? For Win 7 obviously... -

Nevermind. Just had to search for the right driver. When I installed the webcam software I guess it defaulted to 32 bit not 64. Got it now. -
Just to close out the thread,
could you provide the link to the webcam drivers,
or confirm that it is these:
Chicony Webcam drivers for Gateway p7800 series -
what does unvervolting give me?
lower temp? lower performance?
i mean gpu uv. -
InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
i talked to gateway support and if they did not lie to me then the windows 7 drivers for the 78 series will be up within a week.
undervolting pros and cons are basically universal to whatever your doing it to but as far as i know you cant undervolt the gpu without some kind of hardware modification. -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Yes those are the ones I used. Still had to go in device mngr and update drivers to 64. Maybe you won't.
What? All the Vista drivers work for 7 on mine. What are you having problems with? -
InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
im having no problems at all with drivers except maybe the audio driver not working all the time. but i mostly wanted to know when the driver that are designed for win 7 were going to be released if at all. i dont like having to use drivers that are designed for a previous os version considering that win 7 has changed how the drivers function in someways. also those drivers are almost a year old they need to get off their asses and make new ones already lol
in all honesty though i think they just lied to me because for some reason i always get the liars when i make support calls. -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Pwahahahaha! Gateway support. Oxymoron. You might as well call McDonalds(The restaurant) and ask them about it. They'll know as much. No offense to Mickey D employees. -
That's for Dang sure!!!
-
i would like to change my 9800gts`s bios settings

...
thank god new drivers. strange then i guess not all gateway support is stupid lolz i guess support and gateway ist so contradictory anymore -
Try this:
You will be able to overclock the GPU and you can also save your settings for your next startup.

New drivers? Where?! Do tell....Gateways site? -
InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist

1. card reader
2&3. audio for conexant and realtek
4. webcam
these are for windows 7 i dunno if there are new ones for vista.
EDIT: i just checked the site again now there seems to be several more drivers. -
There's one new driver for webcam released at 11/2/09 that said to support Window 7. I tried but could not get it to work.
This is the link to download:

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
I DL'ed the Vista drivers and then ran it. Wouldn't work. Had to go back and rerun the installer found here. C:\Program Files (x86)\Camera Assistant Software for Gateway\driver\64bit Try that and let us know. -
No it still wouldn't work. I ran that DrvInst.exe and one window popped up and close down in a flash and I also try to go device manager and update the driver by selecting the directory you gave still not good.
I am so fed up-.-
Anyone please help me....
My webcam won't work with Window 7 Pro..
I own a P7805u..... -
My WebCam works fine with Win 7 Ultimate on my 7805u. My driver version listed on the Device Mgr. properties tab:
Driver Provider: Chicony
Driver Date: 5/24/2007
Driver Version: 6.2.218.524
What is yours? -
GO here and look at first post, then follow link to Gateway.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=432652 -
Just curious - beside the driver, where did you get the software to run the WebCam?
I'll admit it, I haven't even looked, so appreciate your info. -
See my post above your post. The software comes with the driver.
-
As stated by Evil Claw, it does come with the driver. Version numbers are goofy things. The version numbers stated in file names are often labled with a different nomenclature than the driver numbers on property windows. This is true of Nvidia as well. Without hijacking your thread, maybe someone could quickly explain that?
-
OK - just wasn't sure that it was part of the download.
Obviously, I haven't downloaded it yet.
Doh! -
I would like to help one, I bought a p-7805u and am thinking of putting the core 2 quad Q9100, I saw some posts alitunay more he did not say what went on installation, please if anyone has any information and can help me I will be immensely grateful ... I'm from Brazil and here we have many technical forums on notebooks .... thanks anyone who can help me
-
No one has had any success with a core2quad in these laptops. Your best bet is the T9900 for now.
-
Thanks a lot
