Hmmm... is anyone familiar with BB's return policy?

1. I don't think I'm going to have time to return for the next week or so.
2. Can I go to ANY BB to exchange and not the one I purchased it from (it's a tad bit out of the way)
3. It's 30 days until I can return, correct? What if I wait until local BB's have them in stock? Can I go exchange it then?

I still can not figure out why my wifi is only connecting at 65mbps??? My other FX laptop is connected at 130mbps.

 

1. It's 14 days.
2. I'm quite certain you can, but double check to be sure.
3. It's better to do it ASAP, and open the replacement and check before you take it out the front door.

 

Ugh! I feel like I can fix it if I can just get to the fan. But I don't think it's worth voiding the warranty.

What if they DON'T have them in stock and I want to exchange or return? What would be my options?

 

Unless it's an enormous amount of trouble for you to hunt down another BB with stock, it's your best solid option. If your BB doesn't have stock I believe you can have them order one as confirmed by some others in this thread, but that way you run the risk of receiving a "corrected" unit with worse hardware, because to this point we still haven't figured out whether this model is meant to have a WUXGA screen or if it was a mistake in the manufacturing process.

Wow, your unit seriously runs very cool, are you using it outside or something?

Can't wait till I can go home and mess with mine, I'm away visiting family so as soon as I bought it and verified that it worked and had the correct hardware, I shipped it back to myself, so now I'm just sitting here reading all of this without my new toy, lol.

 

I think I read somewhere in this thread or the other one that this model has only 2 antennas instead of the usual 3? Perhaps that? /shrug

Wow, even my P-6831 fx connects at 130mbps, anyone else connect faster than 65mbps? with a P-7805u.

 

Yeah, lol that was the reason why I ran out to the local BB and bought one despite being 2000 miles away from home, I knew that by the time I get back to California, this thing would be sold-out everywhere.

 

It actually is a huge hassle for me. I drove across state borders after calling every single one in a 20 mile radius, and ended up having to go into the city (where I HATE going to) to pick this baby up. There were a few, however, where they had 1 for "display." I'm wondering if they'll be willing to give me that in exchange.

 

Do you think the new production batches will have a new price or a watered down spec? Makes me want to go and grab 1 or 2... my BB is having 5 inbound(for these 5 the price of 1049.99 is confirmed)

 

Ouch, that does sound like a lot of trouble. Did they tell you that they had one for "display" on the phone? Because again, they don't always tell the truth on the phone, pretty much every BB I called lied to me on the phone about being sold-out when all of them had 1, because I ended up going into one of the stores I called and found it in their cage.

 

No, the ones from which they had "display" models were ones where I went to the store and stood next to the rep while he searched his stock on the computer. Do you think I'll have any luck in exchanging for these?

 

Well tomorrow I am going in to order in the laptop, that's what ya should've done, though I have to wait a few days...have been waiting to get a laptop since early november, now it is even harder because I could has it nao funny how I went from a 500 dollar laptop all the way to a 1050 lapotp..really 1.2k once I grab a new processor for it later on...

 

Everything's fair game at this point because there is no reliable information on what the heck Gateway or BB is doing with this thing. It's not what it says on the box, it's not listed on either websites, it's not "supposed" to be on sale until 1/4/09, and its price is ridiculously low. Personally I think there's some kind of mistake going on here, it's too cheap, with identical specs as the 7801u being sold by Newegg @ $1599, it's as if Gateway wanted to give Newegg a big, solid middle finger and make sure that Newegg never wants to do business with them again. But then again, just my 2 cents.

 

Agh..shoulda told me they lied I would have gone when I said I called.., well I will go tomorrow and hassle them and if they really don't...ordering it is..

 

I called 3 best buys 2 told me they were sold out and 1 said they are 3 when I got there, there was 2 and i bought both.

If you checked out the display model personally and found no faults and/or blemishes whatsoever, then it could be an option to consider. It's not likely that it's been on display since before when this thread was first started, but then again there's loads of people going through BB on a daily basis. This is a tough call, and you're gonna have to make your own decision about what's best for you.

 

They say they're out of stock when it shows one because they think they have it on display and the guy told me they cant sell display computers unless its on clearance.
(Found that out because the first store was out of stock (showed 0) but the closest one to it showed 1 in stock and he said its probably the display one therefore they're out of stock too.
But of course it wasn't the display one, becuase the 2nd store didnt have one on display.

 

Hopefully it stays that low lol.

I'm getting 65 Mbps on wireless as well. Glad you mentioned to check it out. I'm running 802.11n on a airport extreme network at home.

 

gateway is tempting me to have 2 laptops for once in my life. Just bought a 7811 and now looking at how the 7805 might not even have the same specs or might have a price increase... makes me want to have both gateway is good at making consumers come out with their $$ in the tough economy

 

I'm on a 54Mbps router so of course I'm getting the max out of mine...

Yeah man. Sorta like the bestbuy employee that i got the first time, made a big fuss about giving me the locations of the other stores with them insisting i'd be wasting my time because they're only showing one in stock and thats usually the display one which they dont sell unless the product is on clearance.. How you going to hook up the wifi adapter that has 3 antenna sockets when the 7801u only has 2 antenna cables?

 

if im not mistaken, even the 7811, and 7801u came with 3 antenna cables even though the intel 5100 only has 2 ports for the cables.
