Mine was $1,135.04, its 8.9% tax in AZ, Best Buy has a real tight margin on laptops, thats why you never see any coupons that can be used for them.

Yeah I didn't even bother with any coupons.
Didn't want to give them more time to figure out they aren't suppose to sell them yet.
Went in, gave one hell of a fake story, searched the SKU, guy went in back, came out with my laptop, filled out the paper in like 20seconds. checked out. ran outside happier than a little kid getting a present from santa for christmas!

Yeah I could've had the store closest to me order me one, and that store is 3% tax.
But the store 20min from me thats 7% tax had one in stock.
So I just decided to pay the extra $35 or so and get it today so I could be sure it'd be these specs and not the ones they have on the box.

Also, about burning the recovery disc? How do I do that? It looks like all the files are in the Program Files under /C:/Program Files/GATEWAY/Gateway recovery Manager. Which is a 46MB file.

    Whats that?
Also why do I have Program Files and Program Files (x86)? <-- exactly like that.

Look on page 21 of your starter guide ;)

x86 are the programs at run under a 32bit environment I think, all vista 64bit has that file

Ohh gotcha. Thanks. So how come everything I download goes into x86? (Aim, Ccleaner, Firefox, etc?)

Added another WD3200BEKT drive. install was painless, and the palmrest temp doesn't feel any warmer. I also added a SIIG Express 54 CF reader the other day too... works really well. (it was that or a TV tuner or MCE remote)

Might be a repost but looking at the sticker, with 7805u purchased in Houston. It appears to be on the spot, with the exception of "The Ultimate Gaming" sticker.

I noticed the palm rest seems to be a little stronger on this FX compared to the older ones, on the older ones you can press lightly on the left side while a dvd is spinning and it will rub. It may be just me, who knows.

It is your system restore, when you first bootup, where it says Press F11 for setup or something, that's it. If you make a system backup (page 22 of your starter guide) it is the same thing.

Ah gotcha thanks. Anyone know where we can find the drivers for the Monitor? I'm trying to get this to work properly when I bring the resolution down to 1400x900 (Work purpose I RDP into a box at work) Outlook is hard to read at 1920x1200

Thanks! That's the first sticker I can actually READ. It's not entirely on the spot. The spec states the display is WXGA (1440x900) while everyone is reporting the laptop is actually WUXGA (1920x1200). That's what we're all waiting for and wondering about. Either a price hike on this machine, or new batchs to best buy with the 1440x900 screen instead of the WUXGA.

What kind of Monitor? Are you talking about a monitor pluged into your laptop, or your laptop screen, if its your laptop screen, right click on any where on your desktop pick Nvidia control panel, and go to screen res settings.

Sorry I meant the laptop screen. Whenever I bring down the resolution to say 1400x900, the text looks fuzzy. When I RDP into work it also looks fuzzy. I'm thinking maybe it's a driver issue or setting with my laptop. It could be that the LCD of the laptop is detected as Generic monitor.... or that the drivers I'm using(Nvidia drivers 179.28_notebook_winvista_64bit_beta) doesn't work that well.

EDIT:Actually just took a look at the 6831 and it's also Generic, guess I may have to muck around with the drivers. Unless a native 1920x1200 will always be a bit off when changing it to 1400x900?

Well, I decided to open the sucker up after spending a day on researching notebooks that had "similiar" specs, but in build and cost being over 1400+. This is with the HP 30% discount and Dell computers.

Vista SUCKS! On that note, I picked up the Windows 7, test installed at work this morning on a desktop, extremely noticeable performance on a 1gb ram system vs my current 4gb Vista work box.

With that in mind I switched to 2 80gb 7200 rpm hdds and currently installing Windows 7 on the laptop and should see a marked improvement. 320gb sitting to the side. But we'll see.

HDD space doesn't mean much to me since my file server has 2 tb and primary server at home has 3 tb.

Anyone gotten your Logitech Synaptics software running along side the ones that comes with the laptop? I can't get my v220's software to load. Hence I can't get my scroll wheel's left and right click configured.

A user on SD has just posted that his BB has raised the price of this computer to $1149.

Edit: I want to add that I called my BB, which doesn't have any right now, and the CSR told me the price in her system was $1049.

Let us know how that goes, I know that I myself am hoping the specs stay the same and with the person at SD saying the price has been raised to 1149 its sounds like the specs might stay the same

I just bought this from my local bestbuy. The price came up as 1150 but I told the guy that other bestbuys were selling it from 1050, he looked it up and every other store around showed up as 1050. He took the 100 bucks off and I got it for the 1050 price, now i just gotta decide if a $200 2 year warranty is worth it.

So this thing seems to run really cool so far (So I think).
I played CoD4 on multiplayer for 3 and a half hours last night and the max GPU temp was 62c. And the current GPU temp was 54 when I closed the game ( Not sure at what point of the game it hit 62c, But when I started the game it was around 41c and when I ended the game it was 54c).

Also how do I tell which drivers the graphics card is using?
I'm running CoD4 multiplayer at max settings and res without any lag.

    You can look in device manager;

    right click "Computer"
    select "Properties"
select "Device Manager" upper left side
Click on the + by Display adapters
Right click on Nvidia GeForce XXXX GTS
    select "Properties"
    click on the drivers tab

Most people on this fourm use laptop2govideo.com drivers over the stock ones.

i just picked one up in Michigan at the Brighton store and there is 2 left there for anyone interested . Had to drive an hour to get it hehe but was missing having a laptop so i snagged this and it also came up at $1150.00 but i explained to the guy that it was listed at 1049.00 so he did abit more digging and said that was the sale price and let me have it for that . Mine has the AUO1088 1920x1200 screen so they are shipping with 2 different screens but thankfully mine is perfect with hardly any leakage and 0 dead pixels . The keyboard has a brown tint to it which is a different then the others i had. Also the plastics feel abit heavier or sturdier as flynnaz pointed out and the the whole machine feels sturdier overall then my old one's for some strange reason . So 2.26ghz , WUXGA and $1049.00. no vista disk as others had pointed out but i still had one from the past so its all good and one heck of a bargain.

I can't beleive $1150 is the retail price when the 7811 retail price is $1449. Doesn't make sense. Even a lower res screen isn't worth $300, add in the extra video ram, I can't see it being so much cheaper retail. I'd guess they're going to raise the price even higher in a couple of days.
