+rep DestruyaX. I didn't think Matrix ran all the time but it does. With today's processors and ram it's not such a big thing but still good.

Sorry guys, sort of stopped paying attention to the thread since I sold my 7811 and got my Eee. Any big updates I should make to the OP list?
-
Is there a way to install these F6 drivers "after the fact". I installed XP (SP3) in IDE mode. I then downloaded these drivers, went into device mangler, then opened up "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" then clicked on the first one "Primary IDE Channel". I then did update driver through to the "Have Disk" option and browsed to "iaAHCI.inf". This gave me a list of 9 different AHCI controllers!!! I tried #1, #3 and #6, but they all resulted in BSOD, where I had to do "Last known good configuration" and set my BIOS back to IDE.
"Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH8R/DH/DO SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller"
Any ideas... -
look here
-
-
ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller is the one in the 7811.
-
Whats the advanatage of changing IDE driver to AHCI after Vista install? I am just thinking, should i do the same? Right now i have set the controller to IDE in bios.
-
I think AHCI is for RAID setups
-
if you follow the link i have posted, the benefits are listed.

Ok, so I got my P-7811 FX today and it really has me feeling dumb. First thing I do is a clean install of Vista 64-bit, and I've been having the hardest time getting all of the drivers installed properly (it's my 1st time using Vista).
I have all the drivers downloaded, but there are so many different files within their archives that I don't know which to run. I don't want XP, or 32-bit Vista. I only want plain old 64-bit Vista with all the drivers properly installed as if from factory.
Could someone post a small tutorial on how to install each driver, and in which order to install? I never even could get the audio drivers installed, and the "Music" and "DVD" media control buttons never worked after I reinstalled the OS and drivers.
I'm hoping to get this awesome computer up and going 100% tomorrow with your help. Thanks in advance. -
Here are the drivers that come on it:
You did do this, right?
If you didn't do that, then let the above image be your guide as to which drivers you need for the 7811
Step 2: Download a newer nvidia display driver from the nvidia driver thread, or if you are uncomfortable with the latest, grab the nvidia driver off the gateway support site, it's not the latest, but it is more stable than the driver that shipped with your 7811. Put it on a USB drive or CD/DVD.
Step 3: Install Vista x64
Step 4: The very first driver you should install is the video driver.
Step 5: Install Intel chipset driver
Step 6: How do you connect to the web? Install the driver for the Marvel LAN NIC, Intel WiFi, or LiteOn Modem next. Or install them all.
Step 7: Configure your wireless connection, or modem dialup, or plug your LAN cable in and make sure you can connect. You can now download the latest drivers if you want and log on to this forum to ask for help.
Step 8: Install the other stuff if you want.
. Vista reconises the touchpad, but the Synaptic touchpad driver provides more functionality.
. Vista installs generic drivers for sound, and the sound works, but you might want to install the Conexant Audio drivers to get the most out of sound.
. Vista recognises most everything else, or thinks it does, and installs drivers for just about everything else except the NVidia HDMI Audio (you can download that driver here -> http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=22152&uid=213851438 ) This shows up as a second High Definition Audio device in Device Manager after you install the Conexant Audio driver.
. Install the O2 Media Reader driver if you want that functionality.
. Install the Chicony Camera "Driver" if you want direct control of the camera, but it is not needed as other applications, like Skype, will recognise the camera.
. Install the Intel AHCI driver if you haven't already done so.
ASHURA: Could you add the NVidia HDMI Audio driver link to the opening post of this thread?
P.S. I don't know if it's one of the drivers above, or Vista itself, but the media bar works once I have started a media player. The only thing that doesn't work is the music and DVD buttons to start the appropriate media player.Attached Files:

p.s.
I troubleshooted with Gateway and they couldn't figure it out. -
It's a .reg file that you need. Those settings are stored in the registry. I haven't looked, but does pg 1 of this thread have that .reg? Oh.. and why the hell didn't you backup your drivers using Gateways resources on your factory install? That OS CD that is included, doesn't provide you any drivers for the fresh install to be Gway compatible. Anyhow, lemme see if I can locate the .reg
-
Ok..download, and then right click the file and edit it.
Here's the 32-bit vista download
And the 64-bit vista download
there's buttons 1-5..and you'll need to find out which are which, as this .reg is not for the 7811. However, if you edit the file locations or button #s it should work just dandy. -
It's not that I don't think e-Wrecked isn't a swell guy, but not knowing exactly what the 64-hotkey thing is going to do, I decided to do a little digging myself. I did find this link that tells you how to update the keys, if they are there -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3851437&postcount=18
But what if the keys aren't there?
Go into the registry editor (WindowsKey+R, type in "regedit", hit enter is one way to get there)
Go to this registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons
Click on the HotStartButtons twistie. If there is nothing under HotStartButtons, you will have to create them. To do that:
1. Right-click on HotStartButton->New->Key and name the new key "1".
2. LeftClick on the "1" key you just created. Over in the right pane, you should see "(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)".
3. We want to create a new value, so right-click on the "1" key you just created, then New->StringValue. Name this new value "ApplicationPath".
4. RightClick on the "ApplicationPath" you just created and select Modify. Enter the path to the application you want to run in quotes, for example "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe", and hit Enter. In the right pane under the <Default> entry you should see 'ApplicationPath REG_SZ "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"'
5. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 for Keys "2" and "3"
6. Reboot
Registry Key "1" is for the "=>" key if your laptop has one. The 7811 doesn't but I guess some of the other FX models do.
Registry Key "2" is for the little bridged eigth note symbol key.
Registry key "3" is for the "DVD" key. -
Or..to save time the .reg files create all of those in your registry, and then all you have to do is edit the .reg before you run it. Or, run it..then tap media buttons, and based on the results of each button just change the file locations in the .reg and run it again. *shrugs* trial and error..but no harm can come by error.

I found a Microsoft doc on Setting up hotstart keys. There are two sets of registry entries. The fist set is probably set up during the install. MS gets info from ACPI and sets up some registry entries in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0C32. These are very likely model-specific. And since I couldn't see the contents of the .reg file and Vista would only let me run it, I didn't want to risk substituting the existing Enum registry entries with the ones specific to your system. I'm not saying that there would, but if it did, those entries could be a lot harder to get back. I was pretty surprised that Vista would only let me RUN a .reg file, and hadn't backed up my registry yet.
Although I did manage to look at the contents today and it does just set up keys 1 through 5, without the entries in the Enum section. So, yeah, it would have been just fine. -
So you're saying it would let me set keys 1-5? There's are 7 on the P-7811FX
(Music/DVD/PlayPause/Stop/Back/Forward/Mute)
Only ones not working for me are the Music and DVD ones, the rest work perfectly. I'll test around with what you've posted so far and see if I can get it going. Thanks for the links and ideas. I'll keep ya posted. -
Yeahah! That was really easy. Just had to create the 3 strings, ignored the 1st (don't have a => key) and it worked perfectly! Thanks a ton for the help! Now she's running 100%.

I will be getting this laptop in a few days, im not very computer savy so i wanted to get info and recommendations from you guys...
#1 what should i do the moment i take this out of the box? (from reading seems like almost everyone does a clean vista install)
#2 what would be better or what are the differences from vista 32/64?
#3 do i still need these drivers if i decide not to do a reinstall? or will i only need to get the updates like the nvidia ones?
#3 1/2 how about the Synaptic touchpad driver/Conexant Audio/NVidia HDMI Audio/Chicony Camera/O2 Media Reader do i need to add those or are they pre-installed?
#4 i just found-out what BIOS are, should i download the 9C.08.00 BIOS? (im still a little confused, what will installing this do?) what BIOS do you recommend?
i just want to get the best out of this laptop, please let me know what you would do to it, Thanks ^^ -
I recommend that you first insert the battery.. then insert the power adapter into the rear of the computer, then plug the other end.. it will have 3 prongs, plug that into the wall. Now, when you open the lid, there will be a small button which if pressed, will make all the lights magically turn on.. and the screen will begin to light up. Congrats! Welcome to your new 7811
On a more serious note, the first thing to do when you load Vista.. is to use the isntalled Gateway recovery program, have a few writeable DVDs on hand. Make your full system recovery DVDs, and also your driver DVD. Label them, and store in a safe place. If you decide to clean install, then you'll need these for easy access to load working drivers such as your Wifi. Really though, I did a clean install.. I also ran with the factory install(deleted and uninstalled all bloatware) - I liked the factory install better, personally. After removing the bloatware through control panel's add/remove programs, I then updated the Intel Chipset Drivers.. also updated the Video drivers(use Xfastest, I swear by them), updated Wifi driver, and that was really it. If I think of another, I'll let ya know..or Im sure someone else will before that. All of your software comes pre-loaded, with no backups. So, that's why you need to make those DVDs..and it also has the drivers you just mentioned, pre-installed..however those will have to be reinstalled in the event you do a clean install.
The BIOS, well..wait and see which one yours has. I'd suggest the 9c.12.00 BIOS, but you'd be fine with the 9c.08 BIOS as well. That's all a matter of personal preference, like the choice to clean install Vista. But, you have a huge support net here on NBR, so don't worry.. there are many friendly folks here who will be happy to assist you!
Welcome to la Familia de FX. -
What is Xfastest?
-
#2. I don't know about the difference as Vista 64 seems to work just fine. Load the software you use on a regular basis to see if it runs in Vista 64, if so, don't worry about it.
#3 Go back a page and strart reading from post 311 in this thread. And ditto what E-wrecked said. My 3DMark06 scores before and after a clean install were identical. The only thing I would add would be to dump Norton360 as it is a bit intrusive and get something like Avast or Avira security suites (for free, no less).
#4 Once you find out what BIOS YOU have, if you don't have 9C.08, then it will give you RAID support and some fixes. If you aren't going to RAID, then you don't need the newer BIOS'. -

thanks a bunch guys, i will be getting this beauty on friday (11/14) cant wait ^^

Hi again fellas. I just noticed today after having everything work beautifully on my new machine, that the built in microphone next to the web cam doesn't work. If I try and use it via the gateway webcam software it says it's muted and I need to change the settings, though it's really not muted at all. I think it just isn't being recognized or something. Under "Recording Devices" in Vista, it shows a "2-Conextant High Defenition SmartAudio 211" as not plugged in. I'm assuming that that's the port on the right of the laptop. Any ideas as to how to get the mic working?
p.s.
I have done a clean install of Vista 64x and have reinstalled all of the drivers manually. -
Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar. Select recording devices. In the window that appears, select Microphone Conexant High Definition Smartaudio 221 and click on properties. In the next window that pops up, click the Levels tab. Make sure the levels are above zero and that the speaker button next to the level is not muted. (Why they use a speaker icon for a microphone, IDK). then click the advanced tab. Make sure both options under Exclusive mode are checked.
Hope that helps... -
I plugged in a normal pc mic just to test it out and it worked fine with everything BUT the gateway Camera Assistant Software. Still says "Mic is muted. Please change the setting to use this feature."
Weird thing is I could have sworn it was working earlier this week when I configured it for use in Windows Live Messenger. Any other suggestions? -
Hah, I broke my audio drivers too. Actually using only GUI-clickable controls, I broke Vista so bad the machine wouldn't boot rofl.
I put in the Vista disc and told it to repair- it said "sorry charlie, nothing is wrong". Then I rebooted it a couple of times, and it said "Installing updates". Once that was done, one more reboot and everything worked again, including the audio.
Short answer- try a couple of reboots and see if it comes back. If not, try a repair from the Vista DVD and a couple of reboots. -
UPDATE:
I uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers and now the mic is working for everything BUT the Gateway Camera Assistant. Still says that it's muted when I hit the record button. Checked the volume in the Camera Assistant' settings and turned it all the way up, with no result. Freakin' computers... -
UPDATE:
Oh my freakin heck! Rebooted the computer and the mic isn't working again. Anybody have any other suggestions?
And what exactly is the deal with Xfastest drivers? I can't read Japanese and it always gave me an error on boot when I installed and tried them out. -
anybody have any luck with mic drivers for xp32? would really like to be able to use it for teamspeak
-Zigonick -
I cant even get rancid's audio fix to 'stay'. It worked at first except I had to reinstall the 888111(something like that) every boot. Now it wont work at all
and I kinda gave up, running in vista64, but would rater be on XP. But I wonder if vista 32 would be as fast as xp32? 3dmark06 are about 2.6% higher for me in xp than vista64, but theres other reasons I prefer xp. -
can anyone upload the whole new vista 64bit drivers dated 15.9.08-16.9.08?
-
edit:also, i think the OP sold his FX... and doesn't have a need/time to update this thread really... -
Has there working 64bit XP sound drivers jet? Just asking occasionally, maybe someone got it to work...
-
yes fiziks! i meant those!
i wish i could d/l from the site, but it's dead slow because i'm from europe!
please, if anyone have these updates, share. -
Hey, looks like the link for the XP32 intel wifi 5100 link is broken. I was able to find whats looks to be the exact same thing on the intel website, save perhaps a version change. I'd post the link here, but I don't have enough posts.
-
can anybody help me
I have No sound on "Samsung 40' HDTV" when I connect 7811fx with HDMI cable to TV:
HDMI video works fine, but I cannot get the audio through the HDMI,
sound come out only through 7811fx internal speakers NOT Tv speakers
-
Go to gateway site and download the nvdia hdmi audio driver
Here:
http://support.gateway.com/support/...I Audio Driver Version 1.0.0.23&uid=218241636 -
You also need to go into your audio devices and select the HDMI audio as the audio output. Control Panel->Sound->??? don't have my lappy with me at the moment so I can't give you specifics.
-
ive installed windows xp 64 bit, i have everything working except for the audio drivers, i have noticed that rancid has made a 32bit audio driver modification, and in his post there he also said it is possible to make a 64bit one, if he has done this already can someone post a link? thanks --fang
-
conexant driver is down
-
what you guys do is whenever you plug in your hdmi cable, right click the sound icon on the lower right, select playback devices, and disable everything except the one where you want the sound to come through.
for example
speakers - off
spdif - off
hmdi - on
something like that. it's pretty easy. -
usually it detects whatever is plugged in first...
ps haha i've been on these forums since b4 the 7811 came out. it's kinda hard to believe you got ur laptop LOL! -
any luck on the xp 64-bit audio drivers anyone or did we give up on this?
-
hi, just a quick question. my 7811fx did not come with gateway recovery center installed so i couldn't create the recovery cd's. i grabbed the drivers from this thread and i have the vista install cd's. is there anything else on the recovery cd's that i need but don't have? thanks!
-
Good question. I went through same thing, no Gateway Recovery Center and, worse, no recovery partition. I got the recovery CDs from Renovate (refurb agent).
Currently investigating rebuilding a recovery partition on #2 drive.
