ThanksMy hard drive got wiped those these where exactly what I needed!

great work thank you +rep
-
Also, I obviously haven't been following this thread ever since I sold my 7811. If there are any important updates to make to the OP, please let me know and I'll follow up and fix 'em. -
Thank you very much, this list helped me greatly(compared to the next to useless gateway website). But does anyone know which driver is needed for the laptop to recognize earphones?
-
Hi !
Did anyone succeed to get the sound recording working for the webcam (xp32) ? -
I'm new to the forum, but I'd like to thank rancid for his post about the audio drivers. +rep for that. Though I doubt it's of much concern to many if you need WinXP modem drivers you can try this out:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/kmtizog5fhe/Modded Modem Driver.rar
If it comes back saying it couldn't find any devices that match go into the folder and edit the TE1HERzm.inf file. Look for a line like:
Code:%HSFModem% = ModemX, HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_14F1&DEV_2C06&SUBSYS_10250093

I have also a P-7811 fx
I have a problem. I just installed again vista 64. All is fine... I installed all the drivers. But my computer is not recognizing the labelflash. When I enter to the unit.. it saids only dvd rw drive... and it's used to said that with labelflash. I also installed the cyberlin power2go labelprint but when I put the cd and press print... it appears that there is no labelflash unit. So I don't know where I can get this drivers to fix the problem.
Sorry for my english. -
Rancid -
whenever i go to XP32 directory and run setup.exe, it comes back and tells me "Driver Installation failed. Could not find media for this device"
any ideas?

Has anyone gotten the audio to work on their p-7811 with XP-64 bit? If yes, how?
-
Hi!
Can anyone post a "clean vista 64 install for dummies" tutorial? I've read the whole thread and found a lot of useful info, but if someone could compile or point me to an explicit and complete step-by-step, i'd be very appreciative!
= ) -
The guy who started this post said that you can't find these drivers anywhere on gateways website, but I've had no problems.
Gateway.com->Support->Drivers and Dowloads-> then just enter your serial number (P2888(7)) and it will list the driver for your machine in Vista 64, Vista 32, XP 64 and XP 32, whichever you select...
Why is everyone having such a hard time finding them all? Or did everyone just want an easy place on the forum to download them all? -

Hello,
I live in Belarus and I does not have service center for Gateway computers in my country, so I asked you for this question.
I installed Windows XP 64bit Edition on my computer, because I need it for my work (Ansys doesn't work in Vista system), but in this XP-system does not work any audio device. The reason is that there is no drivers for this devices. Can you send me this drivers for XP 64bit system, if it is possible.
The devices, the drivers I need for, are here:
- audio adapter: Conexant @ Intel 82801IB ICH9-High definition audio controller
- nVIDIA @ Intel 82801IB ICH9-High definition audio controller
Thank you. -

I installed XP 64 Bit via IDE. How can I manually install the f6 drivers to i can enable AHCI?
-
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Sorry, but it doesn't help.
-
More info here on how to fix ur problem.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/755526
try the drivers posted here
http://files.filefront.com/swsetup7z/;13449660;/fileinfo.html -
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Now my devices isn't unknown, but they didn't work till now, because I can't update them anyhow( the first time my system found them, using Internet, but drivers didn't update).
-
The drivers i gave you should have enabled the audio on your system. I have XP 64-Bit with SP2 and if you were to update every driver and install everything, you would still have 3 unknown devices. Even people who downgraded to 32-bit XP were left with 3-unknown devices. As of now there is no fix for this. -
Thank you very much again for everyone who try to help me with the sound!!!!!!!!!!!!
But exist one more problem, after backing up driver "Micrisoft UAA Bus driver for High Definition Audio", computer finds 3 more unknown devices, which are Audio Bus for High Definition. After updating any of this 3 by driver sp35271, the sound exist, but after restarting the computer all this 3 devices dissapear again and there is no sound again....
Can anyone help? -
An example of one here:
http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=17988&listby= -
Is it any more variants? Please, I really want to have sound. And it's a real problem for he, to make it work.
-
just do an ebay search for expresscard soundcard or usb soundcard. your prefference. i would look for expresscard solution...
-
The XP32 sound/audio drivers don't really work for me. I've done the stuff as rancid described but still no success
Anyone with a usable solution? I would appreciate it, and I know many others who would appreciate it even more...
I see there is no fix for this as of now.. ... -
Running kb888111 adds the audio device in device manager...
I disabled the 3 unknowns and the 2nd audio device.. and It works for me now, what's the point of the devcon step? That seems to do nothing for me. -
Let me know if it works for you...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4616677&postcount=95 -
Thanks Eric618. It works for me - it was the SP34200 from the ones, that worked finally.
What I did extra compared to your guide: I enabled and disabled the Microsoft UAA High Def. Audio bus, that gave me those 2 Audio Devices mentioned in your guidelines.
I refreshed the drivers of them with SP34200 as you told, but I also had to disable the one that showed it Cannot start (code 10), to actually get the sound working.
And because I did the devcon steps (steps from #8) from rancids guide already before, it keeps working even after a reboot.
Now I just have to figure out why doesn't the microphone function work, even after installing the webcam driver...
Kawaford: I think that is the step you have to do to make the sound work after startup... -
What slider in the volume control panel controls your volume? My volume slider is useless now, and I need to adjust volume vie the Wave slider. No biggie, but it is annoyance. -
Can you maybe find out which webcam driver do you currently have on the machine? I have downloaded more, but they require a reboot after each install... -
I'm having a problem. I've followed all these guides successfully (and I also didn't need the .bat step, but I did it anyway to be safe), but my microphone (3.5mm jack headset) sounds choppy when I speak in it. Any fixes to this? It's "sort of" working, but people can't hear me in ventrilo, and I checked in the sound recorder in XP and got the same results. Any thoughts?
-
The webcam driver is the stock Chicony one listed on Gateways driver downloads page.
-
I just fresh-installed vista64 a couple weeks ago, using the drivers/tips on the front page... Thanks to Asurea and everyone else who helped put it together! = )

Has anyone tried installing an SSD drive as a replacement harddrive? If so, how is it and is it a good upgrade to overall speed performance?
Also, im noticing that my C:\ partition of 24gb with vista 64 on it, only has 3gb free and yet i cannot figure out what the heck is hogging up all the space suddenly. I install mostly every program on other partitions (d: and E: which are my apps and games partitions) What would hog up 23gb on my OS partition and is there a way to finding out what it is aside from doing a clean format/reinstall?
thx for the help in advanceThis p7811 rocks since i got it back in aug 08, im still loving every day with it!
-
I myself got the Intel X25-M SSD 80gb and it rocks! According to HDTach I'm avg about 200-230 MBps read but the write spead is under 70 MBps.
Of course you would have to take that with a grain of salt cuz these benchmarks may not be that accurate for these drives. But I do notice the difference in load times as well as general Win XP use (i.e. windows opening, moving objects, etc.)
I got my drive mainly because of 1) the lower load times 2) cooler than running my HD at close to 60C 3) it's absolutely quiet and 4) I can bang/jar the laptop around without fear of damaging any HD heads. Some say the freezing/crashing of the 7811 is due to the HD overheating but I have yet to experience a crash with either the old HD or the new SSD. Of course it could be the GPU... -
What are SSDs? (i googled but i still don't understand the distinction between a normal HDD) Are they external or Internal?
On the note of HDD, i notice my primary HDD runs very hot all the time--45 at rest, very high 50s, even low 60s if i'm doing something HDD-intensive. (my second HDD always runs at about 38 - 40 C no matter what - WD320@7200)
On another related note, how dow we delete the hidden partition, besides a fresh install of windows? (i tried disk management, and i can't seem to be able to edit it) I've previoulsy imaged my c drive at the stock configuration, so i need that hidden drive for nothing afaik... -
Could you explain briefly how you have your SSD configured? I mean, is this the drive you have your operating system and boot information on? I know, a dumb question, but I want to be clear on this type of setup. I'm not sure whether things would be quicker with the SSD as the boot and operating system device or whether it would be quicker as a slave drive with game X, installed on it. Thanks.
On another note: I've read (skimmed) through a lot of this thread and see that the Conexant audio device is thorn in everyone's behind. Initially, my 7811 worked fine and while I was deployed, decided to screw up. I fiddled with it and managed to restore it to working condition with the originally installed drivers. The same problem showed it ugly head months later after returning home only there was no fix in sight.
The problem that was having was that the machine would not autoswitch between the internal speakers and the headphone port (very aggrevating). My final solution was to install a mix of drivers and the Smart (dumb) Audio 221 software from different revisions. And yes, the drivers had to be force installed (Vista 64 was designed to be a moron when it comes to hardware recognition). I've rationalized that the reason this is such as -pain is that 1. Conexant hardware is cheap and is concerned more with selling parts than supporting their garbage with the correct drivers
--and--
2. The Hardware device manager is Vista show only "Virtual" devices and not the actual pieces of hardware installed in the machine. (in a nut-shell, Microsoft is attempting to protect us from ourselves and created a much larger problem).
As I've said, I skimmed through this thread and saw a lot of references to audio problems. If this is still a big issue, I'd be happy to sit down and figure out what portions of which revisions I installed of both the driver and 221 that made everything "happy".
Last note: I see that many appear to be consumed with installing operating systems other than Vista 64 on their 7811s. I'm a little confused as to why one might do this. What I mean is: I understand that there are software compatability problems between 64 bit Vista and lots of other things meant for other Windows operating systems but I've yet to run across a piece of software for XP where there wasn't a work-around to make it function within Vista 64. Wouldn't time be be better spent working the compatibility issue rather than running older operating systems?
Please pardon my lengthy and perhaps ignorant post but I'm new to the site and am working to catch up on some of the history and great work that I've seen so far from the members of this forum.
Thanks,
Daggs -
What I need XP for, is my phones PC Suite *an LG phone* and some software related to my Security & Forensics studies *yes, I discussed this with the guys there, but even the profs didn't come up with an idea that works*. -
I believe that I have a fix for your LG phone (had the same imcompatability problem), if you're interested. I had to download a software package from a 3rd party and install it on my wife's machine (Gateway desktop gamer).
I of course, can't speak to the other software that you're talking about as I've never laid eyes on it. Basically what I've gathered from your response is that there is stuff out there that just doesn't play well with Vista. Understandable. I suppose I have a habit of obsessing with the stuff that doesn't work and have been known to spend hours in search of a solution (not sure that's a good thing- lol).
Thanks for the reply,

I would like to add to this thread about the audio over HDMI. I have only had one success with getting the HDMI audio to work and it was horrendous quality with both my Monster cable and my 25ft spindle. This is, of course, after the XP downgrade. Sound worked fine with Vista, no go with XP. I have Rancid's fix for my audio (although I no longer am using devcon...My messing with the LTD/Sigma drivers has fixed the need to restart the UAA service).
If anyone has a confirmed working HDMI audio connection I would be very interested in how you went about doing it, because so far, with my experience, the available HDMI drivers from the Gateway website do not work. Thank you. -
Hi. I tried the 32bit version of Vista included on the disc I got with my laptop (it has 32bit and 64bit versions of Vista). It seems to solve all the issues, because it has the goodies from both sides: XP software (all my soft works on it which worked only on xp) and Vista hardware support.
XP is simply NOT needed anymore, but I still have it on my comp, just to feel safe -
I have Virtual Machine of XP, Server 2008(two), Server Core, Linux, and two more Vista(x32) virtual machine <- and all this on my Laptop with OS Vista(x64). -
hey just bought this laptop and so far loving it but running into a minor dillema. it came with 64 bit vista but i installed 32 bit off the gateway disk that came with the laptop. looking at device manager looks like all drivers gtg and present but i cant for the life of me get the headphone jack working. ive attached the screen of what the sound section of device manager looks like and what the sounds applet of the control panel shows for headphone and it looks good there. yet i still cant get any sound. did i miss something with the clean install or install wrong driver. i dont think the headphone jack isnt a driver on its own per se just baffled why i cant get sound from it. i know the headphone work cause they work in other devices. any ideas?

completely uninstall the conexant driver, shut off your lappy, install driver (i used the one from a thread on these forums with all the drivers for the 78xx series), re-start.
that did it for me (hope it works ^^)
my playback devices:
this is where i got my driver -
-
this driver can work on Gateway P-7805u FX?
-
its strange, the conexant audio driver won't install on my laptop. When I try it says something along the lines of it can't find the device.
This leads me to believe I have a different sound card, which is entirely possible because I have a preproduction model of the 7811 (it has a finger print reader and bluetooth, and apparently a different sound card).
So what should I do? Everest doesn't seem to give me any info on what my sound card is. -
