    Shipping time frame kinda for P-171x fx

    I would assume, since you have the words, "power" and "gamer" or "desktop replacement," that you need something more powerful than a 9500. The 9500 is exactly the same as the 8600, and that is not that powerful as a gaming video card. It will run pretty much anything, I believe, but not all that great (and if you're thinking about playing Crysis, I don't even think it's worth trying, the fps will be pretty low).

    I'm in the same boat, waiting for the gateway, but now I'm not so sure with all of these delays. The only thing I'm keeping in mind is, you can't get a better laptop with that good of a video card anywhere else for that price, so hopefully if I keep that in mind, I can deal with the long wait.

    Hello, my name is Nino Avila and I too have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for my FX.

    Here's the nutshell:
    2/9
    Ordered laptop with expected delivery date of 3/10 (Via 2 day air shipping). My Rep told me that the pre-orders would ship on 3/7.

    3/9
    Called in to get the status of my order since online, it still showed "Processing". It was then that the rep told me my EAD was in fact 3/28. I asked why and he said that they (Gateway) hadn't received their supply of laptops yet. He said that they'd be in "the week of the 14th".

    3/10
    Got an email stating my expected delivery date was pushed back to 3/28.

    3/14
    Initiated an "online chat" session with Gateway and was told that the laptops were still not in, but that they'd be in "this weekend" (3/15 or 3/16?).

    I also upgraded my order from a P-171S FX to a P-171X FX. At a discount.

    3/16
    Noticed that on Gateway's website, the expected ship date for the FX series laptops was 3/19.

    3/17
    Initiated an "online chat" session with Gateway to try and get more information about the shipment of laptops Gateway was expecting from it's supplier. I was told that they'd be in on the 20th. I specifically asked if this was "official information" or just some sort of guestimate. He said that's what his manager had told his team.

    I also noticed that the website's ship date for FX series laptops is now 4/18.

    It doesn't so much bother me that my laptop isn't in my hands yet, it's how Gateway handles order status notification on it's website (basically useless) AND how the service representatives are clueless about what's going on. They should have everyone on the same page, even if it's a unified "We don't know". Enough of the conflicting information and broken promises.

    I contacted my service representative to upgrade my shipping from 2-day air to next day. We'll see how that goes.

    See, I'm looking at it this way. I got my SFX for 1600 plus the 3 year warranty shipped plus tax. There is no other laptop out there that can get the same performance at that price with a warranty. Maybe the BB version with thee BB warranty, but still I will be paying more. This is such a great deal that I got that I'm almost obligated to just wait it out. Nothing out their compares.

    That's a good laptop, and from what I've heard, should be able to play most games at high. But for how long...is the question. The FX we will be getting sometime within the next century would wipe the floor with that ASUS.

    Well I just would had to invest cash into someting that would wind up driving me nutz in a year when you can play a game at a reasonable fps without nuetering the image quality, not that I play much now...but I want the ability to, and not to have to worry about it...

    With that being said, my patience is also being tested...we are goign to be pushing 2 months on a pre-order now...I ordered the laptop because I was going back to school, and my first classes start on 3/31. Looks like I might not even get it intime for that...

    I wrote a post a while back with a little bit of consipiracy theory....but the longer we wait and the longer we get falso/mis information on this, the more the little birdy in my head says its somewhat plausable... That being, gateway is delaying and/or intentially had such a low price on these to amass pre-orders, and by the time they ship, the price point is not going to be as spectacualr as we thought it was 2-3 months earlier...

    Ya mfox76 i would hold out for the gateway. that 9500 is a turd in a new costume and wouldnt even be remotely good for the future and 3dmark is no indication of how well games will actually run on it . if you used to be a power gamer then chances are when you get the gateway you might be come one again.

    mfox76, it looks like less than two weeks to go for the p-171x fx, I believe it is worth the wait, I just emailed my rep and told him to upgrade my shipping at no charge, we will see what happens. The bottom line is, there is no other laptop in this price range even close with the CPU,GPU,RAM. I have looked around as I am sure you and everyone else has, and the closes thing is about $800.00 more for a Sager which are very nice laptops. With the discounted price I got back on 2/12/08, I believe I got the bigest bang for the Buck. I am a serouse gamer and use computers everyday all day. I would stick to your order, I am sure you will love your lappy when it comes.

    I also just cancel my order. I order the P-171X FX notebook on 1/31 and today received their vaporware e-mail.

    Their customer service is the most unresponsive organization that I ever dealt with. I have both e-mail and called my Rep many times without any response ...

    Be waiting for the Centino 2 laptop to come out in the May/June timeframe. Good luck to the others waiting for their notebooks :)

    Man, that shipping date is like a yo-yo! I'm not too sure what to do now... since I have a ordered P171X-FX (March 13, 2008), and a P6831FX... should I just cancel and keep the P6831FX, or should I return the P6831FX and wait for the P171X-FX to come in?

    If they had hard shipping dates instead of this throw a dart at a calendar estimated arrival date I could make my decision a bit more easier...

    P-6831FX: $1349.36 (w/tax)

    P171X FX: $1889.78 (w/tax & shipping)

    flynnaz, is your estimated shipping date still April 1, or did it change? Trying to find out what everyone else has for a estimated date.

    My Ship date still shows April 1st. From what I can tell, March 20th Gateway will get "our" laptops in, then they will ship a day or two later, add two days for shipping and your looking at next week some time.

    P-6831FX (no BB warrenty) $1349.99 + 8.9% tax (where I live) = $1470.14
    P-171x FX (with Gateway 3 year warrenty& accedental)$1901.00 (w/tax & shipping)

    $430.86 diffrence for a 2.4 cpu, slot load dvd, better lcd res

    I think its worth the wait.
    My Credit card is showing a pending charge from Gateway, so we will see.

    I will bet (nothing :) ) that I get my lappy by next Friday.

    I just thought about this too, the P-171S FX with slot dvd, 2.0 cpu is $1599.99 on gateways web site. We all now we can get about $200.00 off add the tax 8.9% (where I live)
    Total = $1524.59
    P-6831FX =$1470.14
    Diffrence = $54.45
    Its a no brainer if you want to go this option

    but for me add in that I got the 3 year in home warranty plus taxes and shipping and handling for 1600...its a no brainer for me.

    "Thank you for using Gateway's Online E-mail Support. I understand you
    would like to check on the status of your order. Please note that your
    order is currently going through the production phase. Barring any
    unforeseen complications your order should be ready for shipping in
    approximately 48 to 72 hours. I apologize for any inconvenience.

    I have documented this correspondence in Service Request Number
    xxxxxxxxxxxxx in our contact tracking database. Please use this number
    in the future if you need to contact us again regarding this issue.

    Please reply to this message if you require further assistance with
    this

    lucky...seems like he will be one of the first to get his. I feel left out. My order status page NEVER changes. Except for that one time to move back the EAD date. :(

    Hello there,
    you've mentioned something about the "production" indication, but from what i was told many times by customer service dept. reps is that that screen never changes, until your order is actually received by you. And than again it jumps right into the "shipped" status...

    besides that, the last time i spoke with them (Gateway, today @ noon) i was told that it was some major issue with the testing cycle of the FX line-up. Something to CPU-related. I think that those new Penryns 45nm are the reason. Check the Inet guys, this info is all over the Web that something went wrong @ Intel !

    For those that got tracking info, did you order the P-171X or P-171S? I'm hoping its the S b/c I ordered the X on 2/3 and it would suck if gateway isn't shipping them out based on when they were ordered.

    I ordered the P171x fx on 2/11 and Fedex shows it was signaled for pickup 3/17 at 1:10PM...

    I noticed other people that ordered before me had later EADs than I, however, I ordered several other items at the same time as my laptop (a case, wireless mouse, etc) that were supposed to arrive 2/16. Unfortunately they were lost by fedex and had to be reshipped. When they were determined to be lost Gateway upgraded my shipping on my laptop and placed it in the priority queue for my trouble, laptop included. I'm not saying that's fair, but Gateway upgraded me to that without me asking.

    Now I'm hoping they don't lose the laptop. The fedex tracking page says it should arrive today, 3/18. Just checked that tracking page and no updates, just says it's still ready to be picked up. Order status page shows it has shipped.

    When you get it, can you report back to tell us how it looks? Like, if there's any flex or if it feels pretty durable, or any minor complaints on it (screen, etc), or is the case the same as the P-6831FX?

    Also give us pictures when you get it! :D

    I still wish that Gateway would tell us the exact holdup of these or at least a rep come in there and comfort us... they better not be shipping to one person per day!

    Digital1337, there was a problem with the Penryns? I searched on the web and I didn't see anything about it...

    Getting the laptop first carries a blessing and a curse....you will have the laptop in all it's glory, yes.....BUT you'll be obligated to post the benchmarks for all the rest of us!! :D

    FEDEX tracking is horrible. Its never updated, I believe all you will ever really know is when you should receive it.

    Just got an email from gateway stating my order placed on 2/22 is now expected to ship "on or before 4/7". *sigh* I'll keep my order but Gateway better hope another option similar to this doesn't come out or I'll be jumping ship.

    I just talked to a rep on chat (I accidently exited, so no copy). He told me my order was getting packaged and they were printing out the slips. I hope this is true! He told me that I need to contact my rep to get more info since he has more access. I'm trying! but he won't pick up :(

    I talked to my Rep, Rico, I guess I am lucky, he is very good to deal with. He told me they are printing out shipping labels today. He also said they have 250 of these at the shipping facility, and they should ship out soon, my guess tomarrow. Rico did call the shipping facility and told them to put mine on priority, if you know your rep try it too. He told me the delay was due to a tech problem with the graphic card (which has been fixed). Rico siad they dont like to preorder so far ahead because of something like this. Well there you have it.

    YAY! I Just checked my order status online and it was "Shipped", still no email or anything, but there was a UPS tracking number on my order sheet, although it came up with no information yet...

    If you go to your order sheet (clicking on the order number) after you log into the order tracker, it will show your initial invoice with the tracking number at the bottom...

    I emailed my rep and told him to upgrade my shipping to next day shipping. He said that it he has done that but it just really depends on when the carrier gets it packed and shipped.
