I started this tread, and I have to say it has been fun (for a tread), I would have never tought how many people would use it, thank you guys/girls.

 

usmc, I did but my rep said it was too far along to change, it may get delayed if I do.

Some good news for me atleast. Looks like my laptop is coming from TN. I live in FL, so I SHOULD be seeing my laptop by the end of the week. To bad I don't have a deliveriy date yet.

 

I just taled to my UPS guy, I ordered my (2) 7200rpm hard drives for this baby, anyways, I asked him how long it would take from TN to AZ with 3 to 5 days shipping, he told me about 4 :/ oh well, that puts me at Monday the 24th if you don't count today.

*One important note*
The UPS guy reminded me I may need to be there to recieve it, since it is a big ticket item, so I am sure most of us will be "sick" in three to five days

That's great guys! Now the suspense is killing me, can't believe I left my info at work!!! Hoping to have some good news too when I get to work tomorrow morning (fingers crossed) although like I said before, I just ordered mine on 3/7 so I haven't had to deal with all of these delays like most of you. I hope this laptop lives up to all of your expectations (and mine).

On another note, I've already bought a pinnacle tuner, bioshock, and crysis in anticipation of this laptop...will be the first time I've had something that could play today's games, or any current games for that matter. Can't wait to see Bioshock on my 61" tv!!!! Although the other dude with the projector has me beat.....

Got to work this morning and YES!!! I got the shipping confirmation too!! Scheduled delivery of this friday (exactly 2 weeks from the date I ordered!!) Actually it's getting here 3 days earlier than what my sales rep told me when I first placed my order.

I would doubt it...wasn't it just released yesterday or the day before?? Given the time frame for shipping from China I would guess that these left the factory sometime early last week so I don't see how we could have SP1 on these.

I hope I'm wrong though....

 

SP1 was released to all the manufacters last month, it might be on our laptops, if not, a quik 400+ download and there you go

 

Hey good morning guys. I am soooo glad I ram into this thread. Ive posted on numerous other sites and forums and I havent seen any following like this for this Notebook. Sorry to be late to the party but if I saw this thread sooner I wouldve ordered mine sooner. I spoke with a Sale Rep yesterday about purchasing the P-171X FX and that I was a lil disturbed about the est ship date of 4/18. He told me that if I were to place my order he'd get me a good deal on it with a free upgrade to overnight shipping. The price he quoted me was $2078.95. Personally I dont want to wait until 4/18 and my budget is $2500. I'm suppose to order it from him when he calls me tomorrow morning. My question is since the P-171XL FX has a shorter est. ship date of 3/28 do you think he will be able to get me a deal on that model for around $2500?? If not I think I will jus order the P-171X FX and jus play the waiting game like the rest of you. And as words of encouragement I think this is the best bang for your buck lappy out there and I've looked everywhere. Its jus nice to know I'm not alone bcuz other forums on other sites alienate you for going with a Gateway. When everyone does receive their lappy there will be a huge following that has to be respected. So far I have a 4GB G.Skill DDR2 667mhz CL4 RAM kit and a Glossy LCD Screen protector from Nushield since I'm not a fan of the matte finish on these laptops. Please any advice would help me alot b4 I make a purchase decision. Thanks!

P.S.- The sales rep I spoke to told me the two reasons why the P-171X FX was delayed was bcuz of a shortage of penryn chips (hence why the P-171s and P-171XL have sooner ship dates) and the fact that the popularity has grown due to the price/performance ratio of the laptop.

 

What kind of deals is everyone getting? Any coupon codes or discounts? This gateway notebook looks incredible! I'll probably end up with the 171S, awesome bang for the buck.

 

Just talked to my sales rep, and he said that they won't be coming in our laptops and that he recommmends downloading it when microsoft releases it for automatic download or whatever.

 

From what my Gateway Rep told me, they can only give 10% off now, that being said, I did get a quote for a P-171xl fx for around$2,700.00ish taxs&shipping&warrenty included. My Gateway rep told me they are not selling as many of the XL models probubly because of the HD Drive, its a dieing platform. I would go for the P-171x fx, it more than fits your budget, with extra money to buy 2 7200rpm 200gb harddrives, then down the road when the 2.8 cpu price drops buy that.

 

I downloaded Vista SP1 last night, installed it. No real diffrence except my 4gb of ram is seen as 4gb of ram now, from what I have read on MS website, SP1 just reports all the ram, but still uses whatever it did prior to the update. I did play Everquest 2 last night for 4 hours and no crashes that is a big deal, EQ2 uses a ton of CPU instead of GPU (sony programers are dumbys) and I always would crash, out of memory, with 4gb of ram, go figure. So SP1 seems to fix some of the sloppyness of vista system resources.

P.S. I did not did a reinstall of vista for this update, it went smooth. If you find one of your componits don't work or work right after the upgrade, reinstall the driver for that componit. All of this information can be found on the Microsoft web site.

Sounds good flynnaz and thanks for the prompt reply. I was planning on getting the P-171X and jus upgrading it to 4GB, doing a fresh install of Vista and putting a Seagate 200GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Hard drive and use that as the OS and apps drive and use the stock 250GB drive as a storage drive. The upgrades along with the Nushield screen all totaled to about $2330 which is a far cry from the $2700ish of the P171XL. The only thing that worries me is that alot of you guys pre-ordered the laptop back on Jan 31 and have yet to receive it so where will that leave me if I order one now mayyybe April 18th IF I'm lucky! I guess I was jus spoiled by the Dell lappies I owned in the past where I would get my order in less than 3 weeks. I will see if I can get the rep to get the price down for the P-171XL as much as possible to $2500-2600 and if not Ill jus opt for the P-171X like the rest of you guys and just pester you guys when you get yours for pics and reviews while I wait

P-171X - T8300 2.4ghz 3MB cache, 250GB 5,400rpm 8MB cahe Hard Drive
P-171XL - X7900 2.8ghz 4MB cache, 400GB 7,200rpm 16MB cache RAID 0, HD-DVD ROM Drive (nice extra so I could care less if they stop making HD-DVD movies now since there's 350 titles out now at discounted prices to choose from plus I have a blu-ray drive in my HTPC)

So in comparison if I was too say upgrade the P-171X components to match the P-171XLs the cost would be:

X7900 2.8ghz 4MB cache CPU approx. $650
2x200GB 7,200rpm 16MB cache Hard Drives approx. $370

So hopefully I can get the P-171XL for the discounted prices on the above components and the shorter wait period. It would be a superb deal. I would like to join this club wit you guys ASAP!

 

I think orders from here on out will take less time, becuase the hardware issues in production have been fixed.
If the price diffrence between the x and the xl is $500.00 or less and you can afford it, I would do it,
