Shipping time frame kinda for P-171x fx

My "S" just departed Knoxville TN...I live about three hours from there so I'm hoping mine shows up tommorrow. I'm crazy to know the differences in the benchmarks between all of our versions!!

O bro, it’s hard to tell, FedEx’s electronic notification says it should be delivered by 3pm. But, they may run into some delays. I am sure they are packed with all the packages due to the storm in TN. Their planes were delayed by 2hours. So, we’ll see how it goes. I just wish today would be Friday, so that I could stay up all night with this baby !

I have two day shipping coming to Brooklyn from Memphis as well. Mine left Memphis yesterday and is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Nice to see some fellow New Yorkers on this site.

 

My laptop left Nashville, TN this morning at 7:53.... since then no update.... I hate UPS

 

oh boys , this lappy is AWESOME !!! Finally, i got it guys !!! Do some run-up testing now. So far havent tried any of the graphical stuff yet. However, you can tell from the very beginning that this system is MAD fast ! Everything seted itself up really good. No problems with network so far ! I'll post some pics later tonight. But, there are no visible differences between BB's model and X-FX. Oh yeah, there is biometrical scan right between two touchpad buttons, slot-load drive. These are the only visible differences ... ok Boys, i'll see you all later tonight !!

 

Yayyy! Mine arrived, just had to get it set up, sorry, so not the first to report, arrived this morning in Connecticut, beautiful!!!

 

I just checked UPS. My package just went out for delivery this morning! Do you guys think they will leave it at more door step? Or will I have to be going to UPS right after work?

I'm so excited...quick, everyone slated for a delivery tommrow, check and see if it maybe out for delivery today!!!

 

Mine had a delivery date for tomorrow but it's already at my local UPS distributor, but not out for delivery yet, hopefully this will change in the next few hours and I'll get it today (crossing fingers). I have tomorrow off from work and I'd love a whole day to get this lappy running and clean.

 

Ok guys so I just pulled the trigger and ordered the P-171XL FX just now for $2754.95 which includes tax and overnight shipping. Not a bad deal to me with regards to the specs and what is being offered by the competition. The ESD is March 28 and I should receive it March 31 if all goes well. I will keep everyone posted and if anyone has any requests such as pics, benchmarks or reviews just let me know and I will definitely post some when I get the Laptop. Good luck to everyone else who receives theirs and be sure to share pics and benchmarks with the rest of us.

 

I'm glad you got a laptop that you wanted, but to be honest, I can't really recommend that one over the 171x. The price is about $700 more, and all you are getting is a better hd setup and a slightly better processor, plus an HD drive, but that is on it's way out. You have to ask yourself if it's worth it to get all of that for about $700 more. If it's worth it to you (like if you have a big HD dvd collection), then good luck with it, but if you get the 171x, it would save you a lot. But no matter what you choose, hope you like it.

 

Thanks for the feedback Zombie. The reason i choose it over the P171XL FX is for the CPU and HD upgrades. Plus I do have some HD-DVDs and I can choose from just about 350 titles at $12 a piece if I wanted to add more. Its just a nice plus to be able to watch HD movies right out of the box. And just because no more HD-DVDs will be released doesnt mean my HD-DVD drive will stop working lol. Also I already have a Blu-ray Drive installed in my HTPC so any future HD movies that are released that I want I'll get it and just rip em with AnyDVD HD and transfer it to my laptop. The P-171XL FX should hold me over for about 2 years without me having to worry about upgrading plus I can always OC the CPU if need be in the future. I jus wanted to save myself the hassle of upgrading like I had orginally planned and jus get everything I needed stock in case I have to send it back for any reason in the future. I also think I may be the only person in this thread with the P-171XL FX so it would be nice for me to compare its performance with the rest of you guys to guage if the extra $$$ was worth the performance improvement. BTW did you get your lappy yet?

hey grdawg, when you do a clean format, don't you lose control of the recovery partition, like you do with dell computers? If you formatted those, you would not have access to the recovery partitions anymore, and I was just wondering if you are going go go ahead and do it anyway. I just might do it right now too. I can't stand all the junk they put on this thing.

At first glance, the laptop seems to be pretty fast, but not insanely faster than my old 2.0 dual core. Right off the bat, I don't like vista, I have a dead pixel, but I really like the look of the laptop. I'll post some pics when I can.

Does Gateway replace the screen free of charge if you have a dead pixel on there? Not too sure on what they label as a defect.

@ZoMBiE, I think you might need to give Vista a few boots before it'll get faster, adjusting to what you do on the laptop I think.

I still don't have mine yet... I guess I should've ordered mine back in late January instead of early March...

Got my 171x fx!!! I will be up all night playing this baby, hope y'all get yours soon too if not already.

 

I've already posted that I received mine but it was only because I have one of the coolest ups guy around. I checked my shipping status from work and noticed that they had already tried to deliver and there was no one there to receive (my wife and I were still at work). I saw this and wanted to scream so I bolted home to find the dreaded ticket stuck to the door saying they'll try again tomorrow afternoon around 4:00 NOOOOO!!! So I called the number on the ticket to change the status so I could go and pick it up tomorrow but I'd have to drive an hour to and from the distribution center. They called me back and the driver had arranged it so that we could meet at the local ups store that is only 5 minutes from my house!!! I went, signed, and had this beast fired up in a matter of minutes. I wanted to kiss the guy but that probably wouldn't have went over well with my wife....anyway, here I am with my new baby (although she sounds a little springy...check the issues thread) but she's home finally and we're rockin'

 

I spoke to a Sales Rep who told me that Gateway will replace your LCD if you have a minimum of 3 dead/stuck pixels. In their book they way it was explained to me is that 1 or 2 is normal

And I agree with what was said above give Vista a shot especially with SP1 b4 you give it the boot. Over time it will treat you right.

And to everyone else who has received their lappies where are the pics and benchmarks ? Also how many of you have dead/stuck pixels ?

 

Where exactly are you guys getting SP1 for vista? I can't seem to find it.
Edit: NM, I found it. Downloading it now. Anyone else have dead pixels on their screen? I'm wondering if it's 1 or 2, because it looks a little big for 1 pixel.

Well hopefully its 3 so you can call Gateway and get it replaced.

 

I still have the recovery partition so doing the clean install didn't do away with it. I vaguely remember being able to allocate space to it when i was doing the install, but not 100% sure. The clean install was a lot less stressful then I expected. It was easy to get all the updated drivers back on it. I'd highly recommend doing it. It's nice having a clean computer without a bunch of crap on it

 

For those who've gotten theirs can you check to see what type of 250gb HDD you got? I'd very much appreciate it!

 

Tried to stay with Vista, but I'm just realizing it's not compatible with some of the software i have to run, so last night I switched to xp. Took quite a while, but I have it up and running, and the graphics is nice.

Well, just ran 3DMark06, factory settings show 7877 points in results. No drivers up-dates heve been done at this point. In addition, two up-loads, and one info-reading system program were running during the test !

 

Guys my ship date has been pushed forward to 3/26/08. I'm soo happy. I got upgraded to overnight shipping so I should have it by thurs. Once I get it I will post pics and benchmarks. To those of you that received yours already congrats. But pics will definitely help tide the ones waiting over. Also does anyone have dead pixels on theirs besides Zombie?

 

Zombie and Accord thanks for posting I'm still awaiting mine (well it's arrived at my parents house but they need to ship it to me now), and I want to order the second drive for RAID 0, wanted to get identical drives for best RAID performance.

 

I just ran 3DMark06, and my score was 7843. I haven't tweaked any settings or done anything other than remove some of the junkware that came with the computer.

 

I probably should have posted my results from Vista, but I didn't like it so I switched to Xp. I'll see if I can post my results later on.

 

Can any1 tell me what the screen is like. That was the only reason I was going to get the X. Cheers.

 

I can't say what the 171s is like, but the 171x 1900x1200 screen is very nice. If you had a dell or something that had a lot of light leak before, this screen will be 100% better. It has a decent viewing angle unlike cheep screens which will blur as soon as you move your head.

 

I can speak for the 171s' and the screen is great. The viewing angles are decent.

 

Have you tired any games down-scaled to a lower res to keep a high FPS? What is the scaling like - can you notice it in a game?

 

To be honest, I haven't scaled anything down yet. I play mostly older games, but I have tried Unreal Tournament 2004 at the highest settings and there was no lag, with the fps over 60 all the time. I also tried Guild Wars with settings maxed, and I haven't had any hitches, even in busy towns.

edit: just tried unreal 2004 at 1440x900. Graphics are great, but, yeah, I can notice a bit of difference from a "standard" 1440x900 verses a scaled one, but not that much. Shouldn't bother you too much. However, for newer games like Crysis (which I plan on trying later this week), one will HAVE to scale it down to play it, so best to get used to it now

well lappy is great overall but, i do have one concern. When your dvd spins in the drive and you put your left hand right next to the touch-pad do guys hear any kind of noise !??????

 

Yeah, I've noticed something like this on my brother's 171x (exactly the same as mine). My dvd drive has no problems whatsoever, and doesn't make almost any noise when it's being used. However, the first disk he put in, it started making this really horrendous loud screeching, which I don't think is normal (sarcasm). I'm pretty sure in the next week we'll call up customer support to have them look at it. It's happened for 2 out of 3 of the disks we tried (cd and dvd). But I guess that's how it goes, because his screen in perfect, whereas mine has a dead pixel.

What you're talking about is probably the weight of your hand causing the drive to kind of squeeze the disk a little, causing it to make more noise when it's spinning, I think. I don't really know what you can do about it though, sorry.
