Man, this forum needs a search tool that allows you to search certain threads/forums. :(

Wondering...what are the stock scores (1280x800) for the p7805?
I've seen 8500 somewhere here. Is that pretty accurate?

    Thanks.

Yeah between 8500 and 8800 is pretty common for the 78xx series stock (not counting insane overclocks)

9674 on my 7805u, overclocked GPU to 700/950/1800 on nVidia's latest drivers. I didn't try to find the MAX overclock for it, just set it once and went for it.

I might have run into my upper limit. I'm going to try for 11200ish, but thats about all i got.

I guess the 7805 "is" more powerful than my 6860 :(

Doubtful, between Alitunay and I we've pretty much reached the upper limits of what our machines are capable of in 3dmark06 (though the 780x with a t9900 would edge out Alitunay's score a bit)

But i would love to see someone try to take one of the top spots away, would give me a reason to try for just a bit more (still dont think i can get much over 11200 though)

Well you cant use the x9100 so your out of luck there, but i'm sure you can find a x9000 for sell somewhere. Or just wait until the next rig comes out that sports a quad i'm i'll more than likely end up selling my 6860 (I want to wait for capella... but i feel the new computer itch)

If we get alot more people posting here again i'll sticky it, but as it is the thread seems to have run its course with only mild intrest in it now.

    128GB Supertalent Ultradrive (260/195 read/write)

It pretty much maxes out the sata ports we have in. Its a very snappy drive. I thought a RAID array with 2x 320gb 7200RPM WD drives was fast, but this drive opens things before my old RAID array was done finding it.

    Hello moto,

Your score seems low with that config for sure, I mean you even had an OC. Did you have something running in the background? You should be able to hit 12k. BTW to everyone, GPUTool from techpowerup is a great OC tool for these systems. Its still in beta and you shouldnt use it to OC I use Nvidia for that, but the stress test is very good and will report errors too. Just some FYI

Wow, wonderful config you have there. However, your score is a little on the low side with all those upgrades and overclocks, and your resolution is not the default. Try shutting down all programmes and reboot before benchmarking.

Would love to see some godly scores from you!

well i have to admit that i didnt perform the CPU upgrade myself; the laptop was bought from eBay (brand new) and the seller said that Gateway themselves actually produced these X9100 + RAID0 2x320GB WD 7200rpm HDDs spec p7805u notebooks although i find that a little hard to believe, to be quite honest.

I only swapped out one of the 320GB HDDs for the G.Skill Falcon SSD and broke the RAID0 array so that i could move the TEMP directory and downloads to the remaining HDD whilst the SSD was for the OS and games/apps.

Will rerun benchmarks with provided suggestions and see what comes up. Also planning to apply ICD7 to X9100 for cooler temps once that arrives in the post from Canada. Blu-ray drive upgrade is also in the works.

Any ideas how to disable shared system memory because Vista has allocated 1GB of system memory to the 9800m GTS - I'd like to reclaim it! InfiniteOne's screenshot shows that he is not suffering from this particular problem so I guess it's got to be some config problem at my end. Presumably, none of you 7805u owners are working from an OS-detectable 3GB RAM as opposed to the installed 4GB RAM?

Alitunay's score of 12000+ seems pretty hard to beat but i'll give it a shot!

Just a little note of moderation.
Please resize the images to better fit the forums. Most people are going to have to side scroll to even read the text now (do to the pics)

As to your set up... no Gateway never released a set up anywhere near what yours is. THe 2nd HDD and the x9100 are both aftermarket.

As to your missing 1GB RAM that has nothing to do with video allocation. Leave that setting alone.
Under boot options in Vista someone has selected 3GB for some reason on your machine and thats all that windows is allowing itself to recognize do to this.

You need to reset it to Maximum or 4096MB (cant remember right off) and that will give you access back to your last gig of ram.

If you cant figure out how to do this PM me and i'll walk you through it.

And yes you should have alot better score than 10600s. I've got you beat by almost 600 points and you should be in the low to mid 12K's.

If you want to really tweek your system let me know and we can get you up there. ("might" and i do stress might, be able to break 13K if we can figure it all out right)

I have decided to buy a t9900 to see if i can break 13k! Im also getting two 250GB HDD's and a mini PCIe 16GB SSD to throw my paging file in. So in about two weeks I will see what I can do :)

Can probably get you near 13K i cant promise a breaking of it, as thats a HUGE jump for not much extra Processing power than altunay has.

On the upside your HDD's and PCIe card will do nothing to help/hinder your scores, just make the machine more enjoyable for you

Yeah I just wasnt ready to go to SSD yet so I decided a raid0 with two dense single platter 250GB HDD's and the 16GB to keep the crap away was the second best option. I think Ive got a chance of beating 12K I mean I will have 200Mhz more proc power and Ive got a pretty overclockable GPU. A couple of weeks from now will decide. My GPU reported no errors and only climbed to 70C
stress testing with 700/978/1805 OC. I thought this was pretty good.

following the provided advice thus far, I re-ran 3DMark06 @ 1280x800 and closed all processes that i deemed non-essential via task manager. Only managed to score a slight increase of 10930 from the original 10692....a far cry from the suggested low/mid 12Ks that my rig is supposedly capable of.

Using 185.20 drivers; OCed 700/925/1700. Might try upping the OC and see what happens.

EDIT: updated drivers to 186.03 as per Karmin's advice and upped OC to 700/950/1750

13k would be monumental for these machines. The lower end SLi notebooks barely push that.

Have you tried pushing your clocks alot higher? Remember this is a benchmark not stability running.

All you need is to fine the VERY highest clocks you can run at and not get ill effects. You never want to run your machine at benchmark clocks, just try to dominate scores. :)

I would try 750/1000/1850 and see if you can run at those scores. If not start backing them down a little at a time to find your best score... and if you CAN run well at those scores wait a few minutes and then increase them all by 10-20 and runn again.

I'll try to help get him there... cant promise anything, but if he can solid break 12K with Vista then i'll have him run the benchmark in Win7 and get to the 13K mark or near it. :D

186.03 drivers didnt turn out so great when i tried playing DoW2; the integrated " performance test" suffered terrible graphical glitches/artifacts and eventually caused the display driver to crash. It even caused a BSOD after 20mins stability testing with Freestone-Group's GPU stress program.

I've now switched over to 190.15 which seem to run DoW2 quite happily @ 700/950/1750 albeit at a lower 3DMark'06 score of 11118. 1+ hour of GPU stability testing last night & it was still going strong.

Will up the OC even further with 190.15 drivers and see what the end result is.

yeah Im going to use windows 7 or perhaps xp to try for 13k myself.

Has anyone made a BIOS mod to up the voltage on these 9800's? I think I may get more out of my card if I could up the voltage. Im getting nowhere near thermal cap with the overclocks I use so I know more juice wouldnt hurt. Any one know of a BIOS editor or pre modded Bios for these things? EDIT: Well I just found NIBITor, anyone tried this or had any luck? Im going to try modding the bios to up my voltages later.

found this after browsing through the Clevo sub-forums.....i'm somewhat adamant about flashing the 9800m GTS with upped voltage, given that I will not be applying ICD7 to the GPU nor am I willing (at this stage) to potentially fry my GPU.

but hey, if you have success with the increased voltage on reflashed 9800m GTS then go for it and perhaps it will instill some courage into me to try out your modded bios, if you're willing to share :D !

you might want to have a quick browse through this:-

    http://www.mvktech.net/component/op...iew/id,55582/catid,10/limit,10/limitstart,10/

in particular, the last post at the bottom of page 3 by Mavke (whom i presume to be the author of Nibitor). In essence, he states that the 1GB 9800m GTS is only supported in the paid-for version of Nibitor; the older 512MB 9800m GTS is supported by the free version.

I always thought the default voltage supplied to the 9800m GTS was 1.1v. Seems like you can only up it some more to a max. 1.12V or undervolt to 0.9v?!

Well I donwloaded 5.1 (actually donated). I was able to adjust voltages, but the one marked EXTRA was already maxed at 1.12V so I presume that "Exta" is used when the card is under heavy load. Can anyone confirm this? If so then changing voltages on the lower steps would do nothing but make this card run hotter when it dosent need to.

    what happened to the T9900?!

Don't expect cool temps with a X9100, mine idles at around 45C @1.05V + ICD7 application. It'd be cool if you can beat my 11659 and then go on to possibly surpass alitunay's 12K+ score.

Yeah I was going for the t9900 but I couldnt get it here, long story. The X9100 was more accessible and I dont care about temps too much. Yeah I definitely plan on beating 12K still shooting for 13k. Ive got about 5-6 days till I get it.

Did the 7805 series separate the video card BIOS from the notebook BIOS? AFAIK, from 7811 on back it was impossible to edit the video card bios because it was integrated with the notebook bios (non-MXM).

The notebooks in the Sager-Clevo thread might have the MXM setup which would let you change the video bios (since it's the equivalent of a separate video card).
