    Hey,

If you guys are done. I found a P7811 FX on eBay thats been upgraded with a X9100 3.06GHZ 6MB CACHE. For only $2200. Has 2 - 5400 RPM drives in RAID 0. Got mine at Best Buy 3 weeks ago so I'm not interested. But I'm wondering if the X9100 is for real. Mabey I'll try it in the future...........Raymond

Hi people, I'm got here because I'm going to buy the 7811FX. I always look for price/value, so there is no doubt that the 7811FX is the recommended gaming laptop for me if I lived in the US and I could return it to the lokal shop whenever its broke. I live in Europe and they don't sell this great laptop over here. (If there is a problem) Can I still return it to the factory even though I bought it from ebay? Or should I look for another laptop that is being sold with waranty in Europe?

apologies for any spelling mistakes, greetings from belgium.

I bought mine a 6 days ago. It was an 888 (vs 887) serial number with the newer BIOS. It overheated to the point of crashing when stressing with Furmark. Unfortunately not all of the "newer" batch of models were fixed. I exchanged mine, really really hoping it was a fluke...

Greetings to the person from the land of wonderful beer!

I'd be really hesitant to get this laptop off ebay. If you have a friend or relative you trust state side, the best bet would be to have them buy the laptop, stress the heck out of it for the 14 days, then ship it to you. The number of these laptops that have had problems would make me really really leary of buying from ebay.

Even if Gateway DOES warrant it overseas (or at least says they'll fix it but you have to pay to ship), you'd probably wind up spending a lot of money shipping it to them. If you have a unit with several issues, it may take shipping it back and forth a few times before they're fully resolved.

Good question. I've seen it asked before but have never seen an answer. Have you asked the ebay seller? Kind of like asking the fox to watch the chickens, but he may know something. Also the Gateway support email gets back to you promptly but maybe you need a serial number to use it ... can't recall.

So no help but brought attention to your question. Good luck. :p

And yep, evancg has some excellent points.

Gateway offers no support overseas or warranty. Bestbuy warranty with accidental cover is international, but cost 349.99.

Just go to the gateway website you only see support for the UK, China, Mexico, Japan and US where they sell them, but support is localized because not all products all sold in their respective markets.

u can buy a used gateway p7811 fx w/o problems on ebay, just dont buy a brand new sealed one.
its not going to be cheap adds up the customs tax.

Thanks a lot for giving me some new insights. I think nomoredell is referring to "Packard Bell's iPower GX" I'm going to ask my friend at the computer shop if he can order them. It would cost me +- 1500€ so the price would be about the same as the P-7811FX after paying 25% tax and transportation costs on the US $1,569.00 "buy now" price on ebay. its a good alternative for the non USA people who are interested in the 7811FX, thanks nomoredell and others.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to go off topic here, but yeah we've got great belgian beers! Has anyone tried some of them in the USA? I really enjoy sitting at a café with my friends, drinking a good Leffe, Duvel, Westvleteren, McChouffe, Karmeliet Trippel, .. good times! I can imagine the names of the beers sound silly to you all, its worth trying to order one of those whenever you are in Belgium. Just don't try to drink em all in one night :)

I searched some more and the "iPower GX" is released in october, I'll probably buy one of those and I'll write a little review and post it at the right place on the forum.
@robaloi: Leffe blond is an exellent choice, nice taste!

I thought these were built by Arima, but was told later on they were built by Foxconn, so who knows. I know Arima builds the 15.4" models.

I am trying to slide control of the sound from left to right speaker. Any body know how to do this without having to go to speaker properties and levels.

I use to be able to do this on other notebooks and desktops. Seem this volume mixer lets me do nothing except high and low.

Got one yesterday. Love it so far, all my temps are incredibly low. GPU didnt even reach 70C after hours of playing GRAW2, CPU is very low as well. the only thing that bugs me is the HD temp. It idles at 45C and goes up to 50C while gaming. Is that normal for 7811? Everything else is perfect, no stuck or dead pixels.

Sounds to me like you got a great unit right there. I wouldn't worry too much about anything other than perhaps the power supply(they sometimes tend to get hot and make weird noises). Your hard drive temps are fine.

Did any of you came across some one who had problem with Conexaant audio drivers? When I do a cold boot, Microsoft's driver (hdaudio) gets loaded but on restart (warm boot), system loads conexant. Help!
