Has anyone figured out how to Overlclock the CPU and GPU on these things? I have tried EVGA Precision, Riva Tuner, and Ntune. Precision, and Riva Tuner don't do anything, and Ntune causes a BSOD. I do not know of any good software for Overclocking the CPU. As of Right now, I have a Vantage Score of around 4000, and a 3dmark06 score of nearly 9000. I would like to see how much higher I can get.
What are your scores? -
You cant overclock (yet) without having an xtreme processor. And the GPU is easily overclocked with nTune/Nvidia Performance Tools. Make sure you downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia Performance Tools. There were issues with some of the other builds. You may also want to try a different driver.
-
You will need this version of ntune to OC the GPU.

Thanks, I am gonna give that a try.
I have another question. I am a VOIP technician for EVGA, and I have not been able to get my work software to work properly with this laptop. The software I am trying to use is made by NEC, it is called Dterm SP30. Have any of you guys heard of this? The problem, is that whenever I try to start the program, I can get to the screen where I have to enter my username and password, but as soon as I enter the information, the program restarts. Is there some issue that you guys know of that might conflict with the software? -
Try running the program in compatibility mode(wnidows xp sp2). If it still restarts, it might be one of the few proggies that dont like 64bit.
-
as for your program...
turn off the uac checking under user profiles and make sure your running your software as as an administrator or user with admin rights.
is it 64 bit compatible?
you disc that came with your system is 32/64 bit so you can install to another partition/drive or replace your current 64 bit with 32 bit. (make driver disc first of course)
edit: yeah, what dook said also -
I do not work in the main office, or even live in California, and I do not have my picture on the website. I am a lowly level 1 Technician that works Voice over IP from home. I will give your suggestions a try in the next few days.
In case you were wondering, yes I have been working with EVGA to try to get this working, but I thought I would ask here as well because you guys know this laptop better than anyone else. -
nope, not wondering at all.. *LOL* we are here to help the best we can. which i hope we can. it's nothing like getting a fancy dancy laptop only to find out that your program wont work on it. and have to go through changes to get those programs to work. yep!, most of us have been there and done that. not a whole lot of fun when your in a hurry to work.*LoL*

Why do i get a strange feeling E-wrecked has been out all night trying to exchange his machine again for the Umpteenth time.

hey guys, anyone post some numbers on battery life from raid 1/0?
i'm about to buy another drive, for raid 1, but i'm concerned i'll lose like 30mins if i do...anyone? -
I accedentally tripped over my power cord, and now i think I may have loosened the power connection on the back. Can you guys check yours and see if it seems like it wobbles a little, or if it is real tight?

the jack is not popping or causing any flickering. Is there any other way to check and see if something broke, or if it is ok.
-
-
I guess I'm a little paranoid, I have an old HP Pavillion that has been plagued by the dreaded power jack problem and I have had to solder that connection over 10 times. This is brand new, and I don't want to take any chances.

I'm looking to buy a gaming laptop with the best bang for my buck. The thing is I'm just about to move to the UK so I'm stressed about the overheating/locking problems posted about the P-7811FX. Is this a serious issue that happens to a good number of these laptops? I'd hate to have to ship the P-7811FX back overseas for servicing/warranty. I'm mostly oldschool playing Everquest, but I imagine I'll be trying higher end games in the future. Any words of wisdom from this forum?

hey guys, anyone post some numbers on battery life from raid 1/0?
i'm about to buy another drive, for raid 1, but i'm concerned i'll lose like 30mins if i do...anyone care to check for me? with a single drive on battery, i get typically 3:20-3:30 hours with screen on low and wifi on.
i usually let it run for about 5 mins, check emaill etc then see what the battery says.
how about raid? please take a second to look for me -
HDs are one of the biggest draws in a notebook, especially at 7200 RPM. I would be surprised if you only lost a 1/2 hour of battery life running any sort of RAID.
-
I believe it also depends on how often to access the HD. I find it very hard to believe that adding a second hard drive would make you lose 1/2 hour unless you're continuously reading/writing to the hard drives.
-
I was too paranoid about the power connector, so I took it back and exchanged it since I was still within 14 days.

I saw something about the new bios posted on the gateway support site only being for XP and not vista 64X and now I can't find it to follow it. I'm sure some of you commented. Where was it?

Should I get this laptop if I can get it for under $1,300 total? I am not much of a PC gamer, but I need a fast system with at least a 17 inch screen and a better resolution than 1200x800(not nearly enough screen space, but maybe 1920x1200 is too hard to see)?. I mostly work and multi-task, and would occasionally use it for videos and music. I don't use 3D programs or video editing software. I might never buy a new PC game for it, but I might play some free PC games online with low system requirements.

On the other hand, you may wish to wait for the new 16" but I would grab the 7811 without worry. -
