Yes the laptop was plugged in for a while as I was getting windows 10

The light may be indicating the battery is been charging because it's pluged in (even at full battery).

I can't increase the brightness anymore with the fn+ f4 key like i used to after updating to smart manager 5.1.8. anyone else has this?
-
Is it just me or do most p35x v4 owners have a little bit of screen bleed on the edge of their screens?
-
afaik, all ips screens in general have this issue, except sharp brand screens for some reason. Unless the manufacturer gets an a+ panel and mounts it in metal without bending the panel at all, there will be bleed. Very hard for the p35x to accomplish that with a plastic bezel that likely is held on with tape. GS60 is the same issue.Muhammad Ahad likes this.

Thanks mate, just got mine today and looking for any minor issues, it does go away when playing games though so not too worried about that. Cheers!
-
Yeah, you won't notice it except for maybe movies where the screen borders are black. Matte finish helps cover it up a lot too.

Does gigabyte post change logs for the BIOS updates anywhere?
-
Yeah id like to know what im installing all the time, too.
-
The quick answer is no, and even if you ask them they are fairly vague. I currently have an open ticket as I installed the beta BIOS on my P34w v3 and it's supposed to give more control over the fans (I only know that because the fan options in Smart Manager change depending on which BIOS is installed) but getting information out of them is pretty painful. I will update the P34w v3 thread with the whole conversation once they come back to me on my last question!
-
I have a question, please dont hate me for this it may sound stupid but its been bugging me lol...... is it bad to keep the laptop charged all day when playing games or just simply doing day to day task?
-
Always plug the laptop in for gaming whenever you can, it provide extra juice for the cpu/gpu; it makes no differences when doing light jobs.
I keep my laptop pluged in all the time, it has less impact on the modern battery. I lost maybe less than 10% of battery life on my 5 years old Alienware M11xR3.

Sharp izgo uses a izgo backlight which will have even brightness and no bleed.
But sharp non izgo screens have backlight bleed.
My panasonic has it. -
Happy to report back that the above issue is fixed with the latest BIOS update, FD0E / F015.bberry110 likes this.

I reinstalled windows 10 and after installing al drivers via smart update, i dont have the dolby digital plus program anymore! It's strange because last time i did a clean install of windows 10 it was there just fine.
I really liked it, anyone know how i can get it? -
hey guys, a little help here. i have AmCap the camera software but when i open it, it says "Sorry you have no video capture software" so i uninstalled it thinking its not that important. However, now for some reason i cant seem to get my webcam working i tried making it work in the webcam test website or webcam toy but nothing seems to show up allowing me to allow access for my webcam.any help guys?
-
make sure the webcam is enabled in the smart manager application
-
LOOOOOL if i only knew it was that easy, thanks mate, only got this a few days ago

I *think* this is part of the Realtek audio driver download, so my suggestion to you would be to uninstall the realtek audio driver, run smart update again and pick up the latest version. See if that does the trick...
-
question.....does the screen bleed get any worse over time?
-
it shouldn't get worse unless there is stress put on the LCD over time. otherwise no.
-
Already done that, didnt do the trick :/
-
It's listed in add/remove programs/features as "Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater", and it's installed under Windows->Program Files->Dolby Digital Plus. The exe is ddp.exe. See if you have the program installed or not, or if the exe is actually there or not.
-
Its not in programs and features for me and also ddp.exe is not on my computer :/

On windows 10, my computer always hangs on the gigabyte boot screen when performing a reboot, but not when powering down and turning the laptop on manually. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?
EDIT: nevermind, it was because i was charging my phone via USB XDLast edited: Sep 9, 2015 -
Guys I had this happened to me twice already, occasionally when i play CS:GO my laptop seems to freeze and then open up a blue screen saying "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" is there anyway this can be fixed?
I do play cs with frame rates capped to 60 so whats the problem?
Also, whats everyone's average cpu and gpu temps when gaming?Last edited: Sep 10, 2015 -
My windows 10 seems to bsod every time automatic maintenance occurs (whether forced or on a schedule). Where can i turn this off?
-
I am thinking of getting the P35x v4, do you recommend it for the things I have to do, oh and I also have a desktop, but it is a couple years old and has a crappy processor.
List of things I want to do:
1) Use it for school, notes browsing
2) Use it for OpenGL Java 3d programming
3) Using heavy programs, Photoshop, Sony Vegas, After Affects
4) Gaming, CSGO, Battlefield, Minecraft with high res texture pack and shaders -
I am also getting the Machine Check Exception on some games, but on others I have no issues. I don't know if it is maybe the new Nvidia Drivers or maybe even one of the updates for Smart Manager? I usually run my pc under Quiet w/ Balanced Battery. My GPU is around 46 Celsius at idle and CPU is around 55, and when gaming (BF4 for example) I get around 70 on the GPU and 75 on the CPU. I applied that Liquid Thermal about 3 days after I received my PC and it dropped the temps around 12 degrees.
-
I've never encountered that problem before, but a blue-screen on a modern Windows system indicates a hardware issue most of the time. In this case the CPU directly, which is really bad. Make a new partition, install windows and CS:GO on it , boot the system from this fresh copy of windows if its still happening - you'll have to get the unit replaced.
My temps during gaming are a constant 80 C for the GPU and the CPU is all over the place , around 90-92 degrees for demanding games. -
It still is mostly a driver error.....
-
As I didnt have this issue when I purchased the laptop and it worked through multiple stress test and it only happens under select games I also do believe it is a driver issue.
Also this has only happened to me on Steam games such as DOTA and CSGOLast edited: Sep 16, 2015 -
Exactly, this problem only occurs when playing CS:GO, i uninstalled it and reinstalled it 3 times already same issue, where on the other hand games like payday 2 are completely fine. My temps when play League on max settings are 60 degrees for cpu and abit less for gpu (bare in mind i use a laptop cooler and new thermal paste which lowers it about 5-7 degrees).
another problem im having is playing minecraft on constant 60 fps, is that just a normal thing for 980m on a laptop or should i be expecting abit more solid peformance? -
Try play CS:GO is different screen modes: windowed, borderless, fullscreen. Sometimes fullscreen caused the problem, sometimes others do.
As for minecraft, have you check the v-sync?
Regards. -
yeah i have checked and its turned off, only time its 60 is when i lower the distance of blocks.
Also, can some be so kind to tell me what the latest graphics driver is out for p35x v4 as on the Gigabyte website it says its version 10.18.13.5340 which i have currently installed but on Smart Update it says the latest is 10.18.13.5375, the problem also is when i do click on it it says "Please check net connection", any help here guys? -
Are you sure the 980m is being used in minecraft? Your temps seem very low in both that and CS... worth double checking Cpu and gpu use?

Personally, I would ignore the graphics drivers on "Smart Update" as they tend to be way out of date. I just use drivers directly from Nvidia. I do the same with with the Chipset too.DelFang likes this.

Hey guys, whats all your average temps for cpu and gpu when idle, mine is about 55C average for both cpu and gpu.
Much appreciated -
I am getting a P35XV3-CF5 Intel i7-4710HQ 2.5Ghz/GTX980M/8GB/1TB+128GB SSD for $1599 brand new. I had a few questions for owners on this thread:
1. Heat: Is it a must to repaste this laptop to avoid throttling? It looks like an easy enough affair, but I just wonder if things improved compared to the very first posts on this thread from last year.
2. Does the 8GB version come with on 8GB stick or two 4GB sticks?
3. What cooling pads are you guys putting this over?
4. How is Windows 10 on this? Any major issues I should be aware of before upgrading, since mine will come with Windows 8.1.
Thanks -
Well I'm using the p35x v4 so as much as heat wise as i am currently speaking whilst downloading steam games i am getting 46C on gpu and 52C on cpu. bare in mind i am using my own thermal paste which is arctic silver and ontop of that i am using the HAVIT laptop cooler link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NNMB3KS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
I solely play league on max settings and v sync on and i get average temps for cpu around about 60-65C and the gpu is always 2-3C lower. bare in mind i also cap to 60fps
Note: dont get windows 10 trust me i downloaded it and i rebooted my laptop, windoes 8.1 so much better in terms of bootup speed and overall temps for cpu -
1: repasting WILL improve the temperatures, but CAN'T completely eliminate throttle. HOWEVER, throttle doesn't affect noticable performance.
2: one 8GB RAM stick.
3: I elevated mine, no cooling pad necessary.
4: still using 8.1, Win 10 doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade.
Regards. -
Thanks for the replies. As far as thermal paste what do you guys recommend? I see Xotic PC using IC diamond on everything. Also in the beginning of this thread, it was mentioned that re-pasting does not void warranty, is that still the case?
I am using Windows 10 and find it great. Do you guys have problem with Windows 10 in general or problems specific to the P35x V3? -
Any big brand name paste will do, I used AC5, didn't drop the temps as much as others did, but you'll end up pushing the CPU to little over 80c and GPU to little over 90c under heavy load anyway.
As for the warranty, re-pasting does NOT void it, but don't remove the fans, they got the warranty stickers on them. As long as you don't leave physical damages and break no stickers. The heatpipe also use thermal tapes along with thermal paste, make sure you place them back where they were and keep them flat.
Regards -
Thanks for the tip. Any repasting guides out there specific for this laptop with screens or video? I saw one earlier for a slightly different model. Not sure if there is something new out there.
-
It's the same as the p35w v2, they have very similar structure. Just watch out for the cable for subwoofer (under the RAM panel) before remove the bottom panel, and battery cable when remove the panel and put it back on.
The heatpipe can be remove without taking the fans off, just be cautious and take your time in general.
Have fun.

You have been super helpful. I have another question and I know little about this subject.
I am looking at buying an external monitor. Specifically https://teksyndicate.com/videos/x-s...g-psl-panel-led-matte-screen-monitor-overview.
This monitor takes DVI-D. Its 2560 x 1440. What do I need to do to be able to play the native resolution at 60 Hz at least ?(it is said to be overclockable to 90Hz). Do I need to go through the mini-display port? If so what kind of cable would I need to achieve this? Its selling for $199 brand new and it is too good to pass if possible to work. If the cable is going to be $100 then there is no point in getting it. -
I'm using Asus PB2980 (or something similar, can't remember the exact model name), 2569x1080@60Hz. I can get steady 30fps in Witcher 3 with mid-high settings and no Hairwork. Either HDMI or mini-DP are fine, but since P35 doesn't have DVI, you'll need to get either HDMI-to-DVI or miniDP-to-DVI (not sure if the later is common) or adaptor if the monitor come with DVI cable. They should cost no more than 10 pound or equivalent of whatever currency you are using (unless you want those 10m cables that easily cost over 1000 pounds).
I believe the laptop supports 4k display over HDMI/miniDP, not exactly sure about refresh rate.
While 980m is very capable mGPU, it could still struggle to play latest games with ultra high settings on 2560x1440 at constant 60fps, therefore maybe hold on to the thought of OC the monitor to 90Hz.
Regards. -
I was under the impression that HDMI 1.4 is only going to output at 30Hz at the native 2560x1440. Not sure though. I am having a very difficult time finding a mini display port to DVI-D connector that supports resolutions higher than 1080p at 60Hz. Any links?
-
Never used DVI in my life, can't help you with that, sorry.
Just googled, P35X v3 has HDMI 1.4, and HDMI 1.4 supports 1440p@60Hz, so it's down to cable you use. Try either HDMI/miniDP-to-DVI under $10 first.
Regards.Last edited: Sep 22, 2015 -
You need to search for a mini-dp to dual link dvi adapter to get that kind of resolution... Better sit down before you look at the price tho....
