Nice, how high can you clock your CPU before/after?

So I lost a bottom screw last week. Anyone know where I can get a replacement? Should I just shoot an email to gigabyte and will they then send a pack of screws?

    Hi guys,

This is my first post and I really hope someone will be able to help me with my Gigabyte P35X v3 laptop. I have two issues that are bothering me a lot and to which I'm unable to find a fix.

Issue nr 1: The GPU fan (laptop has two identical fans for GPU and CPU) is rattling and needs replacement but I'm unable to find anyone that sells it. I've opened up the laptop and taken this picture.

    http://imgur.com/a/kbWbs

Issue nr 2: This is a bit quirky. The laptop has a VGA, mini-DP and HDMI port. Whenever I power the laptop on and an external monitor is connected to any one of these ports it refuses to boot. It doesn't even show the BIOS logo with press F2 for setup, F9 for Boot order etc. It's literally black and shows nothing on the laptop or external monitor.

It's very frustrating as I need to disconnect the cable every time I press the start button otherwise it won't boot. Only after the BIOS logo has been shown am I able to plug an external monitor in and it works.

Another interesting thing is that it will boot properly if I'm logged into Windows and press Restart but not if I Turn it off and manually start it up again by pressing the power button Any help is appreciated.

    Regards

I have always liked the look of the P35X, and I think now that pascal (P35X V6) is out, it could replace my desktop (i5 4690k, 970 gtx, 16gb memory). My concerns are,
How well does it dock to 2 1080p monitors? I will not be using the attached 15.6 while 'docked'.
How good is the screen for gaming, FPS games? 1ms/5ms, IPS/TN, 1080p/4k?
How hard is it to attach some IC compound, or better thermal paste? I have built many computers, so I am not afraid of taking it apart to do it myself. Does it void warranty?
Also how loud is it while gaming? Anyone have any videos? My desktop is pretty quiet, which is nice.

I am trying to connect my laptop to my new TV. It is a Samsung 60 " KU6300 4KTV. I used the mini-dp port by getting a mini dp adapter and an HDMI cable. This is what I am using:

    Mini DP adapter

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PJ3LSIG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    HDMI cable:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008JR72SO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Even though I am using the miniDP port, the most I can see on my intel display settings is 3840x2160 at 30p. No 60p option available. What am I missing?

Can anybody share temperatures with the P35V6 and throttling?

Has anybody tried undervolting the CPU, and if so, what kind of temp reduction did you get?

Did you set HDMI 1 to PC and turn on UHD color on the TV?

Yeap. I am very frustrated with this. The closest I got right now is to do a custom resolution with CVT-RB as the timing standard. It is the only way I don't get "custom resolution exceeds maximum bandwidth error". Now I see the 60p option, but the screen turns black with no signal.

Have you tried a shorter cable. I used a 9 ft from PC to 4K receiver then 6 ft from receiver to TV and it worked. I also took a closer look at your DP to HDMI adapter. Although it does say 4K@60 but HDMI 2.0 is not mentioned anywhere. I used one of this and many other also use it to connect to 4K TV from DP:

I use notepal U3 plus coolers on my laptops, but I honestly don't think the fans really do much. Maybe they cool the chassis down quicker between demanding times but overall does not change the max temps at least in any tests I have done recently on various laptops. Elevating the laptop is most of the help it gives.

A CPU & GPU repaste with a quality paste (I like ICD) is about the easiest and best thing you can do. If you can, run at max fans helps tremendously too. If you are in a public place or with family in the room that may not be ideal though.

This design has always pushed the envelope with a near top end GPU in a very thin 15" chassis. The best that you can expect with the above things is mid 80's max temps in demanding games, with less demanding titles maxing in the 70's.

There really shouldn’t be any, or very little throttling with a proper repaste and elevation of the laptop.

I currently uses a P34G which is know to have thermal throttling. I have found that all I need to do is lift the rear of the laptop by about 1/4" and the improved airflow pretty much takes care of that as long as you are in a cool (below 70F) environment. Since review show that while the P35XV6 does get hot, it doesn't throttle but some is concern about component longevity. I'll try the same trick once mine gets in and see what the exhaust temp looks like.

If anyone is looking for a secondary power adapter, this one on amazon is about 65 USD. It is not thin like the stock one so it's better left at home or work on the desk.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AP6QCCI

I posted this in another thread but there is also a smaller power adapter (for when not using the dGPU since it's only 100W). I see it is no longer available but maybe it could be sourced from another store or maybe there is a newer replacement for it.

I installed the new bios, FB10/B019. My fan is now spinning when sitting idle at the desktop and my CPU temp is at 43 degrees, it used to be silent and at 55 degrees. How do i solve this?

    I'm about to pick up a used p35 v3 with 980m for $1000 CDN.

Bad idea? Are these things unfit for gaming in shared spaces?

So I contacted gigabyte warranty, and they told me:

Yes, do not remove the fans and coolers. That will impact the warranty. Thank you.

I would not use the max fans when others are in the room, so if you're running auto fans you will likely have some throttling and more heat. If that is acceptable then there is no reason why you can't game like that. If it is still running the stock paste, a repaste of the CPU/GPU would likely help temps quite a but and reduce throttling. That price seems good to me, about $745 USD.

The benefits of this machine are that is has a rare combination of up to 4 drives installed at once, and even having an optical if you want it. All while still being thin, and good battery life for a gaming laptop.

    Thanks! I picked it up.

I'd bought a AW15r3 but ultimately decided it wasn't worth it given the compromises. At least with the P35x I know exactly what I am getting (heat) and about half the price.

If you can handle the extra sound, run max fans when gaming/encoding or anything super cpu and/or gpu intensive.

I honestly advise a repaste of CPU and GPU assuming you get 90+ temps like most of them do. If you are not comfortable doing it then find someone that can. It runs so much better once properly pasted. Stock will likely throttle CPU and GPU a lot, after repaste it may throttle none, or very little, plus temps will be lower.

    C. I'll make sure I look into that.

I've been running an MSI GT60 with a 780M GTX, and it's on the "loud" end according to the reviews. I know heat kills, and I'm trying to preserve life as long as possible. Ideally this chassis would be .5" thicker or so--giving more room for a heatsink/fans.

So running the latest drivers and whatnot, my P35X V6 doesn't want to display high FPS in CSGO. It does about 150~ and then shoots up to 300~ then back to 150. Like its hitting a limit or something heat wise maybe, is that what you'd consider thermal limiting? Temps were about 75C for CPU, and 85C for GPU. I was going through an HDMI to DVI cable.

I am also somewhat underwhelmed by the performance, it's about on par with my 970 GTX in my desktop, FPS wise. It scored a bit better then my desktop. My desktop got 30467, but the laptop got into the 37k range.

Just arrived today. The 4k screen is exactly what I'd hoped for. I'm simply amazed that 1080p is even an option still...because UHD looks so much better. Even 2 feet away, I can see such a marked improvement over the 1080p on my old GX660.

    P.S.
Found something odd today, and I thought I'd pass along the info--in case anyone else has a similar issue. Windows 10 apparently does NOT like the 175% icon/text scaling option. Since my GT60 is waiting a new mobo, I plugged the HDD into the expansion port (took out the CD ROM). Only problem is, windows wouldn't recognize it. In fact, I couldn't get ANY folders to open/explore drives/etc. Set magnifier to 200% or 150%, and everything works fine. Rather bizarre.

    @imperfectdarkness

How are temperatures on your device? Did you get a repaste?

Use a monitoring program to see how your clock rate changes as you game on both the CPU and GPU. Though to be fair, the 300-->150-->300 behavior seems a little odd and specific. Is it always those numbers?

The 1070 should be performing, graphics wise, on par with a stock 980ti assuming the CPU is the same.

I was, the clocks on the GPU or CPU didn't go down, like I would have expected to see during throttling. 300 -> 150 -> 300 is roughly, it is never exactly the same.

Yeah, and I find it odd its performing about on par to my 970GTX + i5 desktop.... just a bit louder, haha. I was expecting 25%~ better or so.

So you had no thermal throttling but your FPS was jumping around like that? Does it happen on other similarly high-FPS games?

No, Rocket league was pretty solid at 240ish, H1Z1 was at about 70FPS. I played all of them at 1920x1080 ... yeah, it was only CSGO that was jumping around like that. I tested 2 other games before I figured my main game, CSGO was a dealbreaker. SO I think I might try a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro, since I have a CD key laying around.

Side question, can we install drivers direct from nvidia.com, or do we need gigabytes specific ones?

    @ CedricFP

I have a script that disables a lot of Windows 10 crapola, like onedrive, and other windows software via a powershell script.

One setting I did try from one of those links was:

    I. Desactivate G-sync, battery settings on "Max performances"; Nvidia 3D panel : "multi display performance" et " maximum perf" for how the laptop should be juiced.

The rest (minus fresh install of 10 + drivers) is the one I think may help me, the rest look specific to his issue.

EDIT: How do you get these to boot to USB? It doesn't see it at F12. It does see it in BIOS though.

I've searched a dozen threads, and I still can't find anything. Reg-Edit solutions don't work, because I don't have the registry entries that they seem to list. Control Panel/Keyboard/Accessability solutions don't seem to work either.

Nothing more annoying that having these damn pop-ups jump to the front & immediately all your keystrokes you were just typing are now worthless because that window is in the background.

What exactly do you mean? An OSD shouldn't affect your working windows, and I don't remember any window popups notifications.

Try uninstalling GIGABYTE smart manager. That is where it is coming from.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from smart manager too. I'm just worried about losing the rest of smart manager functionality. Anyone know which specific registry entry for it will disable these pop-ups, but leave the rest intact?

    p.s.
based on a quick google-fu search, I decided to run FXAA instead of MSAA 8x. Temps are about 10 degrees (C) cooler, and because of the resolution I'm playing at (windowed, but about 90% of my screen)--it looks virtually the same.
