I got it to work! So I kept looking for an old version of Smart Manager but no luck. Finally I decided to look in the recovery files that came with the laptop. You can open the Recovery files with 7zip.

Open Install.swm with 7zip, then navigate to Program files\GIGABYTE. SmartManagerV3 folder is there. Copy that folder to your desktop. Restart your computer in Safe mode, and then past that folder where your SmartManager is installed and overwrite everything. When I started it back, it was version 4.7.0. When I select "Xtreme" the fans spin up to 100%.

    Good luck.

Thanks a ton, that worked. Good thing I hadn't yet deleted my Recovery partition.

Just wanted to say that this is the worst laptop I've ever owned. After a year of dealing with dead keys on the keyboard, and screen issues, overheating issues, and numerous other problems, the internal power supply board has just given up the ghost. I'm parting this out, anyone interested? You have my condolences if you are still trying to make yours work.

That's unfortunate. I haven't had a single problem with my laptop yet (except the battery dying 1 year after purchase, which is expected. The replacement is still going strong), and it is more than 2 years old. Thermals are a bit of a problem, but a thermal repaste and underclocking (basically turning off turbo boost) helps keep the CPU from throttling always and GPU from throttling most of the time, even in 35+°C ambient temperatures.

I've had a great experience with the customer service. Although it's hard to find centers in my country and parts take a long time to arrive, the customer service did a pretty good job, considering that they replaced everything (including the motherboard and chassis) except the screen when all they had to do was replace a dying battery. Plus, all that was covered under warranty, even though it had been more than one year since the purchase.

It's really unfortunate that you're going through those problems, have you told Gigabyte about them? If the laptop is still under warranty, you might be able to get it repaired at no cost. Gigabyte's only problem is consistency, I guess. I see people (like me) having no problems at all with their laptops, and others with dead pixels, broken fans a month into their purchase.

The worst problem was that the C key failed on the keyboard. I called Gigabyte and they wanted me to send it to them. I asked them if I could order the keyboard and install it myself, and they said no.

I needed the laptop for work, so I couldn't send it to them. I just dealt with it as best I could, until it finally died. I bought a Lenovo as a replacement.

I have got the FB10 bios now and it tries to keep idle temps at 50C. It used to be 60C. At 60C, the fans actually never had to turn on and the laptop could be passively cooled. Even while watching Netflix. Now, the fans are constantly spinning because it tries to keep the CPU temp at 50C.

I find this annoying. Anyone know a fix?

Hey everyone, I am new here. Currently, I am trying to decide between the Aero 15 or the P35X V6, I am a university student that wants something that is portable and will last me through classes and be able to the latest games at home. The P35X V6 has a 1070 but the battery and screen is not as nice as the aero 15. I really like the design of the Aero 15 but it only has a 1060. What are your thoughts on this laptop, Which one should I get?

Where Can I download old BIOS versions? I can't find any previous versions on their website, just the current version: https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/P35X-v3#support-dl

Its really annoying that the fans are spinning up when the processor is running at 800mhz and no load doing nothing and staring at the desktop, just because the target temperature is 50C. I also cant control the fan speed (set to 100%) anymore. I;m fine with the laptop running at 60C when staring at the desktop if that means the fans are off.

Anyone ever find a reliable solution for why there is crackling/popping in the audio on the p35x, no matter what i'm playing, headphones or onboard speakers?

Can someone remind me how to set the battery charging style? was it software or windows? I remember setting the battery to charge for battery long term life, versus full charge for when i am needing maximum time unplugged. I have p35x v3 windows 10 x64 pro - latest updates as of 7-24-17 -

The problem i am having is everytime i am using battery power after about 1 hour (or maybe 50 minutes) the laptop will just instantly power down with no warning. just a click and its off. Maybe if i can find that setting and change it to full charge it might condiition things to work longer or hopefully i can condition it through a cycle of charge/drains.

Hi All. Does anyone know where I can purchase replacement fans for my laptop? One of them seems to have died and I can't find any retailer that sells a fan for this comp. If help will be most appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE!! :)

Wish to god i could help you. But then again, if I knew where to buy them, I wouldn't have paid $100 to have my laptop factory serviced, the replacement fan NOT plugged in properly, and the boot drive wiped.

I maintain that Gigabyte is ****e. My replacement fan is again buzzing--just like the old one did.

    I'm considering buying a used P37x-v5 against a Clevo P650HS-G.

For a configuration I'm potentially interested in (4K screen), the Gigabyte is about $800 cheaper than the Clevo, and of course the 17.3" screen (which I like). The Clevo is only a 15.6" screen, with a processor about 25% faster and a faster GPU. I'm mostly interested in image/video processing. Both have 2x2.5" drive bays (which I need).

I'm perfectly happy to (and prefer to) do my own service. I'm seeing some concern here, but it might be self-selected.

    What do people think here?

Dunno what you mean by "self selected". My experience is factory service returned to me the exact same issue.

I already made a few minor compromises with the Gigabyte--and the sub-par build quality has just been the rotten icing on the cake. The ungodly large palm rest, the lack of "capslock/numlock" indicator lights, the mono-color backlight keyboard, windows key placement, etc; these are all minor gripes. Sound hissing/popping/buzzing while gaming is a bit more than a gripe. But the GPU fan buzzing--two different times--is a fair indication of build quality. And the rep lying about it is a fair indication of their customer support.

I'd go with the Clevo before I even considered Gigabyte for a PC again. (Still prefer MSI though--if they come to their senses about 4k & 1070 GTX in 15")

Still using the crap out of my P35Xv3. I did have a dGPU issue in the first couple months. They were reasonably quick about fixing it and two years later, there haven't been any problems since. Not trying to diminish the issues that others have had but there certainly is another side to the coin.

This is a laptop I hope to keep going for 5-8 years (my current Dell Precision M6500 is 6 years old and doing fine; it's just the CPU is a bit underpowered for my heavier workloads). So reliability and availability of parts is important to me. I'm going to be running Linux (openSUSE) exclusively and will be replacing some of the innards, and my expectation is to do my own repairs. I don't want to send something back to a depot for repair and have to wait a few weeks to get it back, although granted my current laptop should remain viable for a while as a spare.

I'm pretty hard on keyboards; I've just installed my fourth into the M6500. This has been true with all of my laptops, and is due to my behavior. Other than that, the only problems I've had were with some memory (aftermarket) and thermal (caused by dust, which blowing out with a compressed air can solves).

So I don't know whether what I'm seeing here is representative or not.

One thing I do notice on eBay is that there are very few replacement keyboards for Gigabytes, period. There were 15 listed, and none for the P35X. There are plenty for Dell (over 10,000) and a decent number for Clevo (600, with quite a few for the P650 alone). Is this the normal state of affairs, and representative of other parts situations (e. g. fans, if I were to need to replace them)?

I *do* think that it is normal. If you're looking at replacement parts as a criteria then I'd shy away from gigabyte.

Agreed. Gigabyte parts aren't the most readily available. Even MSI parts are probably more obtainable than Gigabyte's...and MSI's can definitely be "needle in haystack". Clevo probably has more alternatives.

    p.s.
I tried in vain to find a 3k/4k replacement for my GT60. Gave up and settled for craptastic 1080p on it.

Hey I'm having problems with my SSD on my gigabyte p35x v3. It's a non-msata ssd one so it fits in the HDD slot. some SSD diagnosing tools are saying that the sata interface is sata1 at 1.5GB/s, but the port is sata3 6gb/s right? can anyone confirm their drives are running at sata3 6gbps?

EDIT: it was due to a power failure (the laptop drained in my backpack when on standby mode and my windows install got corrupted). I fixed it by doing a power cycle of the SSD and reinstalling windows.

I'm still looking for an older BIOS of the P35X V3, since i think its really annoying it tries to keep idle temp at 40C while spinning the fans. I used to get 60C idle temps and the fans wouldn't spin on idle and I prefer that. It even stayed at 60C passively when streaming 1080p netflix and youtube and browsing.

Nah not enough cooling for that. I repasted and dusted out my fans and heatsink and now 3.0GHz seems to be fine (no throttling, ~90C max) in gaming with +135 core and +500 mem on the 980m. could maybe push it to 3.2 because there is thermal headroom left (95C max) but I rather keep it at 90C ish.

Before dusting and repasting it throttled at 2.6GHz even. I repasted last year with GC Gelid Extreme.

    Running a 40mV underclock.

In the end I went with a Lenovo P70. Unfortunately it whitelists MXM cards, but I found one with a good card (Quadro M4000M). The motherboard had a subtle data corruption problem that took warranty service a few tries to fix (second level support eventually diagnosed it to a problem with the NIC), but it feels like a solid machine and it's not hard to get parts for. Not as easy as Dell, which would have been my first choice, but being able to put two 2.5" drives inside is important and it also has a particularly good keyboard (which I tend to be rough on, and since I want to keep this as my primary laptop for 6-8 years, it matters).

    Hey,
i have had this laptop for two years (5 months or so beyond the 2 year warranty now).

Recently, I was playing games and all of a sudden it turned off, and would not turn back on. The charger light was not on. I found that if I unplug the charger from the computer, and replug it into the wall, the light turns on. I checked that the voltage was good on it. However, when I plug the charger into the computer the light on the charger turns off. If I unplug the battery from the motherboard (battery went bad a month ago, got swollen, and I replaced it with a correct model), the problem does not change.

I heard that the mobo would probably need to be replaced (from a computer repair technician in a local shop) which alone could cost as much as the laptop is worth to sell now, is it true?

Thank you for any advice you can give. I think I've made a very expensive mistake.

I have a P35X that I'm parting out as the power supply on the motherboard has died. Probably an easy fix if you are into that sort of stuff, probably just a bad cap, but I just ended up buying a Lenovo Legion Y520 from Costco instead. Everything is available. Make me an offer if you need parts. Screen is in perfect shape, no dead pixels. Email me at favc (at) outlook (dot) com with the part you want and what your offer is.

No problemo. Which version of Smart Manager do you use? I use 5.2.9 and it keeps the lappy at 40C. Changing fan settings doesn't seem to do anything. Gaming, silent, normal and custom, the fan just keeps spinning at the same RPM.

    You have a P35X V3 right?

I'm having a really strange issue with my P35Xv3 -- the internal display stopped working with the BIOS and Windows 10 completely...both work fine on an external display (hdmi or displayport). Seems like a simple hardware problem, right? So I replaced the lid/lcd assembly and it still has the same issue. On a whim, I booted an ubuntu-gnome live USB and halfway through the boot, the internal display lights up and works perfectly, even after unplugging the external monitor. But it still doesn't work with the BIOS or Windows 10. I've tried everything I can think of -- toggling Fn+F5 (though it should've worked in the BIOS regardless), updated the BIOS, pulled the battery and CMOS battery and let it sit overnight, disabled the dGPU in the BIOS, etc, etc. The CMOS battery is a steady 3.1V so I don't think it's that. If anyone has any thoughts about it, I'd love to hear it. I've emailed Gigabyte support but I don't expect much there other than 'send it in' and I'm well outside the warranty so that's a last resort.

I think sometimes Windows 10 can do some very strange things to laptops - have you tried using a bootable USB drive with Windows 7 on it to try to install Windows 7? Don't go out and buy Windows 7 based on what I'm saying, but if you've got a copy lying around it might be worth a shot. (Or maybe try the same thing, but with Windows 10, reinstalling Windows 10. I have the feeling that sometimes Windows 10 messes with the BIOS, I'm not sure on this.)

Not the worst idea I've ever heard, but unfortunately installing Win 7 didn't help any, nor did reinstalling Windows 10. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

How about returning the BIOS to it's defaults - normally there's a button you can press to just change everything back to default, maybe the BIOS needs to be 'reset' in some way. If that doesn't work, I also noticed you upgraded the BIOS, how about reinstalling the same (latest) BIOS after you've returned all BIOS settings to default. Ha, might be another long shot, but thought I'd suggest it!

    Hi,
I've been using P35x-V7 for a year now. With all the news about Intel security holes and microcode / OS fixes released one would think there will be some BIOS updates from Gigabyte. On the official support page the latest is still FB02 which is more than a year old. Am I missing something or does Gigabyte BIOS support is truly that bad?

Does anyone have access to the recovery partition? If you do, can you please upload the old Smart Manager folder ("SmartManagerV3") under "Program Files\GIGABYTE" in Install.swm? The Smart Manager in the recovery partition has the old fan controls which allow for full (Xtreme) fan speed, but I have lost my recovery partition. Thanks for all your help!

I have sort of negelected my P35x for the past 6 months, but I am planning on doing some maintenece on it. Temps are going crazy and my battery dies almost immediately after power disconnect, so I am due for a new battery.

Any one know of reputable battery replacement for the P35x? These are the options I found:

    https://www.amazon.com/Battery-961T...8&qid=1522590538&sr=8-1&keywords=p35x+battery

    https://www.amazon.com/7XINbox-6830...&qid=1522590538&sr=8-10&keywords=p35x+battery

Not many reviews to lean on...
