I downloaded the file, extracted all into c:\DRIVER and tried to update the Elan driver in the Drive-Manager. Unfortunately it says that my drivers are already updated. I am currently using the 15.14.7.4 drivers from Smart Update and somehow i can't change them. When I edit the setup.ini to enable the installation, my drivers didn't change. Uninstalling the drivers couldn't solve the problem either and I stay on 15.14.7.4 drivers.
Any suggestions what I did wrong or how I can solve this?

Did you run the Setup.exe in that same folder as well?

Did you then install the drivers through device manager? Try doing it the other way around (driver installation, then setup.exe; that's how I got it working).

Device Manager says that my drivers are already updated. That's the problem that I actually have. And Uninstalling the drivers doesn't work because after reboot Windows automatically restore them somehow including the ELAN software.

EDIT: after uninstalling this driver, I looked in the Windows folder for "ETD" and deleted everything which relates to that. After reboot Windows somehow got again the "ELAN Touchpad 15.14.7.4_X64_WHQL" drivers and ye... I can't probably uninstall them nor install other drivers. And yes, I got the Aero14 with i7 - 7700HQ and GTX 1060 version.

EDIT2: I got it. The problem was that in the Device Manager i need to select the "ETD.inf" file to install this driver. I only tried it the automatically way and it never worked. So finally I also got the WPD working ^^

Anyone have experience with the noise levels on the Aero 14 compared to the Razer Blade 14?

Just got a Razer Blade and it's noisy on load. Thinking of getting the Aero 14 or 15. There's a used Aero 14 on my local classifieds that's interesting me, if not, will go with the Aero 15.

It's less loud on a strictly decibal base, however the noise at load is "whiny" vs the "windy" noise on the blade 14's load. Still, you'll get used to it, the laptop is virtually silent at regular use.

EDIT: I have the Aero 14v6 with the 6700HQ Processor and a GTX 1060. The noise on the 965m/1050Ti(not yet released) models will most likely be less loud.

Finally decided to sell mine. The mediocre to really bad keyboard drives me nuts... good for casual gaming but not for work.

I have owned 7 laptops in the past for personal use and currently using 3 day to day. I would rate Aero 14's Keyboard very good in terms of button recognition , key travel and feedback. The only thing I feel it's bad is that the button layout is very cramped and needs time to get used to.
Really curious to hear you out on why you dislike it

Anyone had any luck overclocking the panel ?

    For one:
That is has a DE layout ;). Nothing wrong done by Gigabyte, but I just can't stand the layout. And switching the layouts in Windows (what I do often to use the special characters in DE and SWE) makes it worse. But that it not the problem in itself.

    My main complaint is:
I noticed a lot of weird typos in my mails and documents I never saw in that frequency. Mostly swapped characters or missed ones. I started to take a bit more care on what happens and found out that the keyboard does not always registers all keystrokes or has a tiny delay which causes the character inversions. Then sometimes some keystrokes get registered two times... all of which for a fast-typer like me is pretty much annoying. I basically have to edit all my texts two times.

Then too make it worse the backspace only works reliable on the left 50% of the button ('<-- Bac'), you have to press really hard to make it register on the right hand side ('kspace') of the key-cap. I removed the cap and saw the sensor is actually under the left part of the key. If you press it really hard on the right hand side it works but as I press it with my pinky, often enough it doesn't hit hard enough if it hits the 'ace' part. The left arrow key is making funny sounds, like a cracking.

And the G1 function keys are useless and just take up space they could have used for the keyboard.

I found the Thinkpad keyboard far superior and even the Blade keyboard was really nice.

And by the way the touchpad is not that great.

I really want to love the Areo 14, but after a couple of months now I still can't. Also the sound of the fan during gaming is annoying. Not how loud it is, but the pitch of the sound. I found the Blade much better in that regards.

Just had a major disaster. My son accidentally knocked nearly a full pint of beer all over my Aero 14. I think its fried. Have left it in the airing cupboard. My last full backup was June 16th, so haven't lost that much. but there are some files I'd like to retrieve since that time. I had a 1TB Evo 960 M.2 NVME installed and I'm hoping that may have survived, but for the life of me I can't find a way to read it outside of the laptop (eg, I can't find an NVME compatible USB reader for example). Any ideas? Obviously I can buy another Aero 14, but want so see if my data has survived first. Any guidance much appreciated. The drive was also bit-lockered, but I have the recovery key so I'm hoping it is not tied to a broken Aero 14.

Unfortunately there are no nvme external enclosures available yet except for the very expensive ones like from Akitio. Most likely the Evo is fine, you can take it to a shop to install in a desktop to recover the data.
If your motherboard is indeed fried and you plan on getting a new laptop perhaps consider the aero 15 that has two m.2 slots.

I noticed this as well, however I got really used to the keyboard and minimised most of those errors. The key press inconsistency is a little annoying at first, but I have a really small difference between the keys so didn't take much time to get used to.
As for the trackpad, i agree, but installing the precision drivers from a couple posts back really helped. Now if only I can get rid of the annoying acceleration algorithm.

I'm still experiencing serious issues when I use the laptop with Windows 10 Battery Saver On. The laptop simply refuses to turn off and if it goes to sleep, it won't turn back on. Looks like there are some issues with drivers. Except for the Nvidia drivers, I haven't updated anything else.

On top of this, my smart update utility has stopped working and all I get is some error "07x36".

I had same sleep wake up issues so I wanted to update drivers . The SmartUpdate utility threw some hex error . I made a fresh Win10 install , downloaded SmartUpdate exe from Gigabyte's site . Now it works well and after updating the drivers , battery is better and no more sleep wake issues

Thanks. I downloaded and re-installed Smart Update and either 1) Reverted to the last official version 2) updated to the latest official version. This seems to have fixed my issues.

Do you know if EmptyProject.exe has been removed after the Anniversery update or does it still keep the GPU running?

Also, any point in updating the BIOS? I'm running FA/FB 02.

    Thanks!

Interesting, as I've had the opposite experience. Having had the gigabyte for about 2 months now, going back to my old macbook pro keyboard feels very mushy and imprecise in comparison. I agree about the layout, though. It does take some getting used to, especially the placement of the arrow keys and its surrounding keys.

    Hi guys.

I'm trying to decide between the Aorus X3+v7 and the Aero 14.

Apart from the (obvious) screen differences, are there any opinions on the pros/cons of these two models compared to one another?

    Thanks,
    P.

    Hey guys,

I have a problem. Recently I discovered within the last 3 days that after sleep mode (min 6 hours) I get a Bluescreen of Death (BSoD) in the next 10 mins. The BSoD has the F ailure Code Error: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

Anyone made the same experience and knows how to solve this?

I was having this same failure. I changed some power management settings and it resolved it.

Search for my name in this thread, someone pointed me in the right direction. But I don't remember exactly what I did.

Replying to my own post ... The repair quote came back at over £1300 plus VAT. And for that kind of money I could buy a new one and sell the old one for parts (I know the memory and Nvme card still work). Any advice on whether there are now better laptops than the Aero 14. I'm not swayed by the Aero 15. Appreciate any advice before I push the button .... again!

Perhaps take a look at the Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501. 15.6" form factor but *very* thin and light. Runs a 1080 MQ - which is sort of a downclocked 1080 that runs between a 1070 and 1080.

It has a great performance and it runs very quiet. Its just that the battery life is nothing compared to Aero.
In addition to the laptop above, take a look at this one. ZenBook UX550VE

I know it would be a noticeable downgrade in performance but you are still getting thin and light aluminum build with large battery and 1050 TI with good display.
I don't think it is released yet but it is scheduled to arrive some time during the Summer 2017 (so soon!)

    I think i solved it.
I changed in Nvidia settings from Optimal Power to Adaptiv and in Smart Manager => USB Charge => both on off.
    Haven't had a BSoD yet.

Another question: in Windows energy settings, did someone managed to change the PCI Express Sittings? Everytime i change them and restart, the restore to "standard".

Has anyone tried the FB09/F006 BIOS update that comes up on Smart Update?
Is there some sort of changelog outlying what was updated from FB07/F004?

New owner of the Aero 14 -- Love the notebook and everything. But I've been experiencing a small issue/concern with my unit. Anytime I put it into sleep mode, it'll eventually wake itself up even though the lid is closed. There were times where I would go from my house to work and pull out my laptop only to find that it's already on and running warm within the backpack.

Are there wake timers enabled from Gigabyte by default with these machines? Anything I should know?

Hey guys, if you play low end games like overwatch/csgo/starcraft...etc like me. Try out the Whisper mode available with the newest graphics driver, it works by putting a hard cap on the frames in these games to prevent 1060 from using excess gpu power. I am seeing lower heat (50~55 degrees Celsius for sc, and csgo @90 fps) and around 55~60 for OW @ 70 fps. The fans do not kick in often and most of the time rpm is that of "Normal" in smart manager. You can customize the frame limit in NVidia control panel in 3D management. The default are usually between 45~60 so if you want a little bit more, you can change that.

Thanks for the suggestion, I really didn't know about this. Though, I play Overwatch at native resolution in windowed borderless mode, and the fan noise did not change. However switching to 1080p fullscreen did the trick and lowered the fan noise significantly (my graphics settings for the game is still at very high/epic as I didn't optimise the game for whisper mode!).
I am yet to test more demanding games like Doom and Arkham Knight, but so far everything seems promising.

For whisper mode? I believe it's 384.94 (22.21.13.8494). If you want to use Smart Update for that, I recommend you don't as it has outdated drivers for the gpu. Instead download it directly from Nvidia or use GeForce Experience.

thanks for the input. I will not insist then with this smart update.

By the way, what sound driver are you using ? I have realteak 6.0.1.8205 and have issues as well.

-Loudspeakers are mute time to time after sleep or hibernate mode randomly. need a restart.

-With some sound event, the mouse/trackpad freeze for a short moment.

Can someone tell if, for example, starting a program in admin mode will freeze the cursor once the sound is playing ?

I'm using 6.0.1.7997 (I think I updated manually, don't remember where from) and I don't have those issues.
As for Smart Update, only use it to update Gigabyte stuff.
Download Smart Update from the gigabyte support page.

    2 quick questions:
-How long can the aero 14 (7700hq/gtx1060) run, say, playing a video and HDMI (meaning GTX is used) driving a projector?
-Can you drive a projector from the intel graphics using a mini displayport VGA or HDMI dongle?

    Thanks,

It's probably eject but I don't have an optical external drive to test

    - I assume you meant "on battery". I would say the battery lasts about 1.5 - 2 hours when the GTX 1060 is active.
    - From what I found, it is not possible.

FYI, it is possible to downgrade the bios version. Does anyone have the FB03 version? I'd like to roll back. The oldest version I could find was the FB04.

I thought the idea with graphics on these machines was that the Intel is always active and sits in front of the nvidia GPU. So technically displaying over Hdmi or displayport is using Intel graphics all the time. Or is there some weird stuff that happens when using an external display that forces the nvidia GPU to be active?
