Actually I chatted XoticPC the other day and they said stock models arent QA'd, they're shipped unopened. So I would have to get the $35 repaste vs the free repaste from Gentech, and if Gentech QA's as well, then...

Thanks for the kind words and accolades of love ;)

Stock machines aren't opened up and tested by us unless specifically requested to do so. There is a small service fee for this to get a guy dedicated to the machine and do this for ya, you'll have to contact us directly for pricing though. They are tested by manufacturer before leaving their facility. Our testing is mainly to see if there are any issues with the configured parts requested to be installed and the overall stability with them.

Alright so I just called Gigabyte today and asked them about this. For the mSATA the rep just told me I need to keep the original mSATA and put that back in if I ever send it in for repairs. So basically installing a new mSATA does not void warranty. For the re pasting the rep told me that it does technically void the warranty but if you do it without any mistakes then it is technically fine. Anyone else get a different reply from Gigabyte about warranty?

The reason for the response you got is because they technically can't tell. Even repasting does not require you to mess with the screws covered by the waranty stickers. You would have to do a really poor job to leave evidence behind that you messed with something you weren't supposed to.

Yes, since it's an offical tool by Intel, which doesn't leave any traces and reverts its changes in case of instabilities.

If your ordering it from the vendor, they do IC thermal which proves to give it a couple degree's cooler when compared to stock thermals

I already ordered my laptop. I want to do it myself since it is way cheaper and does not look hard at all. I've read that IC Diamond isn't designed for laptop dies because their die is a mirror and diamonds scratch the surface, they are for desktop cpus which have an alloy surface. I don't know if this is true. Should I just get Arctic silver 5 or mx-2?

I used arctic cooling mx-4 on my p35w v2 and my temps drop a few degrees on full load. I didn't want to use IC diamond for the sane reason. I don't want any scratch on my components.

Question about deciding between CF5 and CF6:

The price difference between these two in the UK is around £300, with the CF6 coming in at just <£1000.

Is £300 worth the difference between the two, for what is essentially a 256GB msata ssd and extra 8GB ram?

I can buy a 256GB msata ssd for ~£120 and ignore ram upgrades until necessary. In the interest of saving as much money as possible, is this a good idea?

If I did add an msata ssd I would prefer to move the OS installation and recovery partition onto it from the hdd - is there an easy way to do this with stuff provided with the laptop? Any decent guides?

What memory does the laptop take, and is it better to get 8GB now (saving money) and add a second 8GB stick in say a year, or just get 16GB upfront - but the price difference between CF5 and CF6 doesn't seem worth it to get 16GB upfront.
I will be playing things like star citizen modules as they're released - which I'm managing ok with 4GB in desktop at the moment anyway. Think 8GB should be enough for that for the next year or so.

    Thanks. :)

Well crap (or should I say good no need to spend those extra bucks).

Can anyone who owns the 61.25 battery confirm?

Edit: This is actually very odd. They say the larger battery is actually worse. Maybe they got a lemon? Take a look at their benchmarks:

There is definitely something wrong with their testing sample. Later this year mysn will also have replacement batteries in stock. I will get one and I do expect more battery life. ;)

There is way more battery life on the 61.25 Wh version. Check some European reviews about the CF4 model and you will see they have something like 7-8 hours runtime listed. I have the 61.25 Wh version and can say that it lasts 7ish hours light usage. My guess is that the C404 somehow uses more battery than the P34Gv2.

I think this is unlikely since the C404 is essentially identical to the P34G v2, just rebranded. There were a few differences though, but I don't think these were enough to explain their odd findings. The P34G v2 sample they tested had a 4700HQ CPU, 1 stick of 8GB RAM, a Liteonit 128GB SSD mSATA, and a WD 1TB 5400RPM HDD. The C404 on the other hand had a 4710HQ CPU, 2 sticks of 4GB RAM, a Crucial M550 128GB SSD mSATA, and a Seagate Momentus 500GB 5400RPM HDD. I think the screens were different as well (AUO B140HAN01.1 vs. AUO AUO113D).

But anyway good to know you're having more luck with the 61.25 battery.

its clear that notebook check screwed up the tests as usual.

and does anyone knows where to buy those in france with the US international keyboard or the UK one?

I found that amazon sells the CF1 model, but Im interested in the CF6 and will buy the SSD separate, the price they are asking for the CF4 is outrageous.

So far my choice has been to order from amazon uk and ship to france

and yes I can't use azerty keyboards.

and I won't order from mysn because them my warranty would be with them only and not gigabyte, not that they actually have them to order anyway

    Hi guys

We don't want to say that notebookcheck has made an error here, they are after all an independant review website and we respect their impartiality.

    However, their battery results:

1/ do not make sense on a fundamental level in that the 61.26Wh battery does give bettery battery life, this is an un-arguable fact!

2/ our internal testing shows that the battery life of the C404 with 61.25Wh battery is roughly the same as what they have quoted for the lower capacity battery.

It looks a little like they have the results mixed up, where the 47.73 results are showing in the C404 and the 61.25 results are showing in the P34 - as members have said on this thread already the results do not make sense.

We will be in touch with notebookcheck to clarify the results, because they are definitely not in keeping with what we have seen and they don't make sense from a purely logical point of view either!

Karamazovmm - if you go to mysn.eu and then click on the French flag it will take you to our French language website (sorry but I can't link directly to it due to notebookreview reseller rules). You can choose the UK keyboard on here under "Clavier" - if there is an option that you can't find then please contact [email protected] and one of our French (or international speaking) sales representatives will get back to you as quickly as possible with a solution for you.

Our warranty is Europe wide collect and return, meaning we pay for the shipping, parts and labour. We have two dedicated RMA centres in Europe (one in Germany and the other in the UK) providing quick and reliable turnarounds for warranty cases!

thanks mysn the problem here is that I do live in brazil, and simply my father is going to take a trip up north to visit some relatives, which means the shipping will be quite high for issues involving the notebook. And yes I had already checked the mysn.eu site and saw the option to configure several types of keyboards. Thanks for the response!

and regarding the battery test, they have screwed up somewhere. however that shouldn't be what happened, given that the previous review was released a long time ago. They probably botched it by leaving something on that consumes a lot power. Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense at all. Specially if you check the previous reviews with the large battery, with the 63wh

The C404 review is now properly translated in English : Schenker C404 Notebook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

It seems like notebookcheck test was done right. The larger battery on the C404 simply does not provide additional runtime since the computer uses more power. Could this be fixed by changing settings ? Right now I'm simply thinking on buying the P34G v2. Then, later on buy a larger battery to replace the small one.

I think the p34g v2 throttled the cpu to 1.3 ghz on battery? Maybe mysn has a different bios that doesn't throttle, giving less battery life? Or maybe they forgot to turn down screen brightness.

(sorry if I'm wrong here, can't check the reviews because I'm on my phone and almost at data cap)

    Nah its botched up.

The components that were different in both reviews can't account for such a disparity in power figures.

The PC consumes more power as it is put under more load. They must have botched by leaving something running. Simple as that.

Mine is only 1 month old and the wear level is already 4%. Do you let the battery discharge until 1% and then charge it to 100% everytime you charge the laptop?. I find very diffixult to discharge the battery everytime i play a game.

I saw the P34G on Alternate.de for a good price. Can anyone confirm the battery this model has? There is nothing about that in the specs. This comes with a German keyboard, but earlier I saw a user "charteris" talking about buying a US keyboard on AliExpress. Has anyone had any luck so far with this?
I can order a C404 with a US keyboard as well, but they're sold out until September.
Can anyone tell me European reseller with a US keyboard for a low price and good availability? Or tell me where I can buy a US keyboard for the P34G. If I buy one from the US the import and tax will be massive.

Hey everyone, stopping in to get some feedback while I read through the discussion here. I"m in the market for a 13-14" laptop ( have a thread open ) And narrowed it down to 2 laptops, and having a hard time deciding which to grab.

I'm coming from an M11x R2 so regardless it will be an upgrade.

My 2 contestants are the Clevo W230SS and the P34Gv2

Right now I'm kind of leaning towards the P34Gv2 due to the dual fans as I feel that might be better for cooling, however knowing clevo, there may be something good as well.

Curious to hear from some of the owners on their experiences, how well games play, and most of all heat and throttling issues I hear about, whether that was something seen in the early release stages or if its something that can be avoided or just overhyped. Appreciate any feedback.

Hi everyone, I'm looking at getting one of these but was looking for a quick spot of advice if possible first!

It looks like I have a lot of choice regarding hard drive options.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any advice in terms of:

    1 x 128 ssd + 1 tb harddrive
    OR
    2 x 256 ssd

Both models are priced the same and are the same besides this.

    Thanks!!!

the main issue with the w230ss is the build quality, its lacking.

palmrest wear is something that will happen, aside that the fit and finish aren't that good
given that I have very little concern for on the go storage, I would chose the 2x 256gb ssd option

Yes I've been in contact with Scan already, but they only have UK layout laptops as they said they need to take at least 50 laptops from their supplier if they wanted US layout.
Did your laptop from amazon uk come with UK or US layout?

Haven't got mine yet, but it appears that the fit and finish is lesser than what I'm used to (I deal with macs)
Well given that the us layout is very close to the UK layout I have gone with this option but I'm betting that my unit will have the UK one

Anyway from what I saw the only take away is the shape of the enter key, to which I do actually prefer the UK shape as it reminds me of the keyboards of yore.

Having said that I'm not even sure if they will make such distinction

At least its not the azerty or other more difficult to use keyboard layouts
The performance of 256gb ssds is better than the 128gb models

Not quite. I am very used to US layout, so if slashes and @'s will be in different positions it will be difficult to get used to. At least for me.
Here' a picture with all the differences.

For me this is a dealbreaker. I guess I will have to find a cheap way to import the CF4 from the US, or wait until Schenker will have it available again. Anyone else with tips on how to get my hands on a US layout version in Europe?

Hello everyone, I live in Belgium and I want to buy the gigabyte p34g v2 but I don't really know where I can buy one. I know that schenker sells them (c404) but they are out of stock, is there an other seller or reseller in Europe? The keyboard should be French azerty, US qwerty or UK qwerty.

I got the CF4 option yesterday from GentechPC (better deal and price than XPC). I was hesitant to get this system due to build quality and battery life. My first impressions of it are mostly positive. Coming from a MacBook Pro, Dell Latitude E7440, and Razer Blade, I found the overall build quality slightly above average. My biggest issues with it so far are the keyboard (thin and cheap feeling) and location of the DC In. As for the touchpad, not as bad as I expected based on comments. I find the touchpad more than acceptable. As for the battery, heat, and fan it's too early for me to comment.

I do have a question... I ordered it w/o a HDD and it had two HDD screws in be baggie. Not sure how I use those to attach my SSD
