I've turned off Bluetooth and tried to optimize the settings for my needs. I'm now getting over 4h30 of use with my C404.

Luminosity at 35 for the screen (you can use much lower setting here if you are just doing office work or surfing the web and you'll certainly get much better battery life)
Usage : web surfing, web coding, Photoshop/Illustrator

Overall I'm very happy with this machine.

S.H.I.T~! I saw a spark from the mainboard!!!!
Last night I was changing the harddrive, I accidently dropped the screwdriver on near the GPU heatsink (metal tip contacts first) then a little spark coming from the board (I heard the sparking sound!)
Luckily this laptop still turns on with no problem so far :)

Sounds like a discharge from capacitors; yikes :0 You got lucky for sure. But for EVERYONE, disconnect battery before doing anything because, well happens. And you definitely don't want to be out 1500$ from it... Also give it an hour or two after disconnecting so the capacitors can drain :)

I'm not sure it was the capacitor or not, but it was definitely from the area in red circled in the picture.
I think I probably short circuited two of those metal terminals~
Very very lucky! I'm still worrying will it caused any aftereffect in future? what do you think? But at the moment just no problem....

I'll be honest with you, if it was me I'd try to find some excuse for warranty... You might have weakened some components which may or may not fail pre-maturely...

I'm not gonna lie I found it difficult to get a grasp of the PSU connector to disconnect it. I tried and gave up! Any tips? The thing is just so damn tiny and its hard to get it to wiggle out as it feels really snugged up in there.

Haha, yea I know it was a pain but I consider it a must. Just use your nail and try to catch the raised part. It's do-able and necessary in my opinion.

Hmmm.... I have done about 3 hours FFXIV bench (loop) last night, seems everything are normal, heats (GPU, CPU temps) are normal too.
Maybe I will just leave as is, and if sth goes wrong I will just go for warranty if it still under warranty period.

I'm definitely considering this or the P35. Can anyone tell me if it will play Source games unplugged? I work in surgery and get called in a lot so I am looking for a notebook I can play some games on while I'm at work. Team Fortress 2, CS:Source, ect.

In terms of unplugged performance the Razer blade from last year is the vest option since it won't throttle on battery

Because this one throttles heavily on it

I have a problem with SmartManager, I setted the Power Mode to "Auto" (Balance when plugged & Power Saver when unplugged).
say for example every time I shut down the laptop when unplugged (Power Saver), the next time when I turn it on with AC plugged the Windows8.1 still recognised it as Power Saver mode, but when I unplug and re-plug the AC adaptor the system change back to Balance mode.

    Any idea?

Do all of these come with the Maxwell chip rather than Kepler? I tried searching around this thread but I couldn't find a definite answer. Also, this is IPS correct? Does it feel solid to those that have purchased it?

I'm between this and a MacBook pro for travel to play wow and watch movies. Thanks a ton!

Where can these be purchased with the bigger battery? All my searches resulted in the smaller battery equipped versions. Maybe my Google-Fu isn't so great, lol.

Hi, I recently purchased the V2 with preinstalled windows 7 and have had ongoing wifi /internet connectivity issues. It rarely connects at any hotels or homes. Surely other people are having the same issue with this laptop.
I have attempted upgrading network drivers, reinstalling back to factory settings, renewing ip, flushing dns, and every other thing I can find on the net but nothing works.
Has someone had this problem with the p34g and what did you do to fix it? I am desperate to fix this and am even considering ditching the laptop altogether. Thankyou.

You can play source games even on the Intel 4600 (Except for Titanfall I guess). So the P34 should very well handle it on battery - if it's only for that I wouldn't pay extra for the Razer Blade.

You can play on the 860m while on battery; it just down clocks but even down-clocked, it will STILL perform better than when on iGPU.

Ok I have a decision to make between the CF5 and CF6.

    CF5 is £1299 for 256GB msata and 16GB ram.
CF6 is £995 for only 1TB hard drive and 8GB ram

An msata drive like the 240GB crucial M500 is £90.

Seeing as 8GB ram is enough for "normal" use, it seems more cost effective to get the CF6 plus something like the 240GB crucial M500 and do a clean install or simply clone the OS install across. Should be an ~£200 saving for not much effort.

Considering that I would likely sell on and upgrade after 2-3 years, the loss (and upgrade cost) for either the CF5 or CF6 should be comparable so there is no difference apart from the initial "buy in" price.

Apart from saving money, what is the benefit of having all the bells and whistles included in the CF5 compared to buying additional upgrades separately with the CF6?
Is it worth having all the components under the same warranty or does it not really matter?

My brain is saying CF6, but I'll admit it would be nice to have everything already setup in one package so I'm not sure either way. In any case I'm holding out in hope of a discount on either model in the next couple of weeks.

Get the cf6. There is no sense in the cf4
The blade from last year didn't throttle performance on battery the one released this year does.

That model can be found heavily discounted for less than 1500

There is no extra cost involved

The other one is the CF5, not CF4 - the CF5 is now available on ocuk.

But yeah I think I will do this and get the CF6 and buy a separate ssd - £200 is a significant saving.

Sorry, yes I agree that there is no point in the cf4 - here it is £1199 whereas the cf5 is £1299 - for £100 more you get the 256gb ssd and 16gb ram instead which personally looks like the better deal.

That's why for me the only choice is between cf5 and cf6 - and given the cost saving of the cf6 it is the obvious choice.

I do wish gigabyte wouldn't mark up so much for the sake of storage and memory options - the pricing for slightly better storage and more memory is ridiculous compared to buying it separately yourself.

Sorry for double post but I just ran Intel XTU and the stress test indicates that my processor frequency is 0 and active core count is 1. CPU Z says I have 4 cores and 8 threads (not sure what this means,.)

Could it be that XTU is just bugged or do I have a faulty laptop? Thanks

    Same thing here.
I head of another fan control software, but I can't find the name, is there any ?

On another topic, would you have a notebook cooling pad recommendation ? I'm looking for something not so heavy. The Notepal U2 seems a little light on the cooling side, and I don't really want to mod it with fan controller and the like (maybe that is the only solution ?)

By the way, just received my C404, everything is as expected, only little problem, I can't seem to make world of tanks works at full settings since it's so well optimized...

Just adding some information for those curious about the XMG C404; I've been testing mine after it arrived a few days ago, and the battery life for web browsing at 40% brightness is around 5-6 hours, with word processing being ~6-7 hours. So I'm not sure about the notebookcheck review getting only 4 hours, though the results won't be directly comparable due to differences in testing methodology.

I am on Windows 7 with various tweaks to visuals and services for battery life and a 70mV undervolt.

So... I'm looking in this thread and wondering... is it at all possible we might see a "p34g v3" with either a 960m or 970m in the next couple of months?

A little annoying - the CF5 and CF6 are finally available to buy, and now it turns out right on the verge of a major upgrade in gpu power. I could wait a couple of months, though it would be a huge inconvenience in my circumstance - but manageable at least.

    911! Should I Return My P34G V2? Go With 960m? Battery Life?

I have a couple weeks left on my return from buying a P34G V2. I am not impressed with the battery life I thought it was going to be. I could figure it out though but I am not sure.

Bigger question is. Should I return anyway and get a new 900m series laptop? After doing a lot of research though I believe it’s just a re-brand. I think the 980m will be a better card but not the lower end models.

Anyone have detailed information on this?

What do you think I should do?

It should be something between the current 860m and the 970m.

Nvidia likes distances of 20-30% in between cards remove 20-30% from the 970m and you may have your answer

    you have found nothing.

the 750ti which is what the 860m is, will need to have a hefty clock boost and we don't see that happening. we are waiting for something like the 660m to 760m a new card. it should be something like 1smm disable from the 970m

What is the % boost from the 860m to the 960m?

Any sites you can link me too?

Or is it not going to be different at all except the 980m?

There are always going to better cards, better laptop, etc... just get one the fits your needs, then buy another one whenever it's not up to the task anymore.

Wait till 18th/19th next week - get a better idea of when a new model will not only be released but also be available to buy - make a decision based on concrete info.

Knowing gigabyte's history with releasing laptops, I fully expect delays - I would be very suprised to see an updated p34g with 960/965/970m available, in stock at your local online retailer before December - I wouldn't be surprised if it is delayed further till beginning of next year, in which case maybe they might do a full refresh with broadwell cpus.

Maybe I'm expecting the worst, maybe I am completely wrong and we see a p34g "v3" in the next month, who knows at this point. I know in the UK every single gigabyte laptop release over the last couple of years has never been on time - always a couple of months delay. Don't take any of what I say as true - it's all my opinion and I could be completely mistaken. I would love to see a p34g with 970m or 965m at the least in october, but at the same time don't believe it will happen so soon.

If I see the p34g v2 CF5 or CF6 on a nice discount in the next week or two, I'm not going to wait.

True. But DDR4 with new Intel and GTX 970m in a slim laptop will be future proof for a couple of years.

I'll look them over. What would you do in my shoes?
