Agree. Was terrible on my part to not back up my data. Thankfully the ssd was intact and I managed to retrieve all my work. The laptop is still dead though

Does anyone know if the Thunderbolt 3 port on the Gigabyte Aero 15x V8 supports 2 monitors?
I tried two Thunderbolt 3 docks from Startech (TB3DKM2HD and TB3DKM2DP) and both detect only one monitor at the same time in "Advances monitor settings" in Windows. Updated the Thunderbolt 3 port to the latest firmware from the Gigabyte support site and the latest BIOS FB07. The Dell WD15 does work with 2 screens simultaneously but that is a USB 3.0-C dock.
On Plugable I read the following:
I do not hope the laptop only supports one external monitor through TB3. -

Can anyone recommend what RAM to use to upgrade the original one? I want to replace RAM.
I bought this on May 2017. Is this good time to change the RAM, because I heard the warranty will be out? -
I haven't had the chance to get the computer examined yet since I'm still travelling, but hopefully my data is ok as well. I'm glad yours is ok anyway. -
Walking to ups as I type this to ship it out to California for an RMA. Will update here when I have some news!

New NVIDIA drivers out on GB site. Can't tell what version they are.

This is a very large thread, so forgive me if it has already been covered, but would it be possible for Gigabyte to release a firmware update to allow intel xmp profiles to run properly? CPU-Z says I'm running at 2400MHz despite having RAM rated for up to 3000MHz (so it should only downclock to 2666MHz). I understand that there is both a JEDEC and an XMP rating, so my question would be "Should I wait for a firmware update that lets my RAM run faster, or just find a different, 2666MHz JEDEC rated RAM set?"
-
@g85222456 What the point of having smart update while it doesnt show the latest version on it? Sometime the website have newer version while sometime the smart update has the latest version. Can it be more uniform?
-
Unless, of course, Gigabyte can issue a BIOS update to support XMP profiles...
If that doesn't work, I guess I'll try Kingston, this PDF says it's JEDEC compliant. https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX426S15IB2_16.pdf
As for V-Color, I can NOT find a listing of the RAM that came with it anywhere. I searched TN416G26D819-SB, and the only available listing I can find is from this link https://24h.pchome.com.tw/prod/DRAC13-A90095WGM, some chinese site with a ludicrous markup.Last edited: Aug 22, 2018 -
Maybe you can sell the 3000MHz, then buy the 2666MHz and PROFIT? -
I got it through newegg, and I've already had them refund a stick of Corsair Vengeance 2666 memory because it just flat out was not compatible with the stock RAM and put the laptop in a boot loop (had to wait for the battery to die because every time I pressed the power button to turn it off it just turned right back on with no keyboard or display light-up). Now I'll have to wait likely another 3 weeks to send it back and have them send me what I ordered originally. It's just a big headache...

I uh... was a little afraid I'd rip it out the wrong way, so I just let it go...

Alright, so it seems GB has the actual latest Intel and Nvidia drivers on their site. With this I'm thinking about finally updating to 1803. Had some questions on what the proper/best procedure should be. Here are my 3 choices (all with internet off and 1803 upgrade done via USB):
1)
-Upgrade to 1803
-Remove all drivers via DDU
-Install new drivers
2)
-Remove all drivers via DDU
-Install new drivers
-Upgrade to 1803
3)
-Remove all drivers via DDU
-Upgrade to 1803
-Install new drivers

Urgent help:
Had a Killer 1535 wifi chip - it sucked. Mostly Bluetooth NEVER detected or found any devices. Took some advice from here and got the Intel 9260. Uninstalled all of the old killer items in Control Panel/Uninstall a Program.
Used Gigabyte Website to get Win10/x64 Bluetooth driver (this file folder had 3 different install .exe's so that was confusing.) I tried one each and my problem every time, was windows boots up, I immediately go into Device Manager, and make sure the Intel 9260 has power management box unchecked that lets Windows save power by limiting or turning off the device - Surely this was my problem...
I still have the problem and that is the Bluetooth device greys out completely after 20 seconds of booting into windows. As soon as the screen flickering takes place (this is normal right? Pantone display doing its thing?) I watch and observe Device Manager drop/grey out my Bluetooth. All Bluetooth Windows buttons disappear at this point. Any troubleshooter states this device is not bluetooth capable. Something is causing this...or the chip is bad...
Has anyone had this issue? I would be so grateful for your help. I really want to resolve this issue.
My windows 10 is completely up to date. BIOS as well.
Bought the laptop in January $2800 (did better cooling via GenTechPC and added extras) and for the last 7 months I havent enjoyed a single bluetooth device, ie headphones.
Thank you all for this awesome community. -
I had this Bluetooth issue with another laptop. I think the issue has nothing to do with the WiFi card but Windows updates and bios/Mobo compatibility.
If a reboot doesn’t fix it, you can ensure it’s fixed by going into bios, turning off Bluetooth and then turning it on again.
It seems like every time Microsoft does their quarterly updates it f’s up everything. Perhaps you can see if there are any bios updated which may have corrected incompatibility issues arising from Window updates.

I have the same problem. I thought it was an issue with my pluggable TB3 to dual dP adapter, but now I'm wondering if its an inherent limitation with the Aero 15x? The adapter worked fine on my Lenovo P50 and Dell Latitude 7285 over thunderbolt 3. But on the aero it only detects one monitor and I have to plug in over HDMI or mdP on the laptop to get a second monitor to be recognized.
-
-
How do I do this? The UEFI setup screen didn't seem to offer much in the way of settings. -
Hi folks as of yesterday my Aero started getting noisy - sounds kind of like a spinning hard drive (but its an SSD?) - and today its REALLY BAD at times with a serious whirring sound coming from it.
I tried to upload a file here of what it sounded like but I couldn't so I put it on Google drive:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UOgo_UA6By-BrPCLzyQcM4XT62K2z5vh
Its not under load or anything - I'm just browsing the net..?!?
I installed Crystaldisk info and it tells me drive health is Good (100%) and temperature is 23 C .
Can anyone suggest what might be the issue?
Thanks.. -
You can try uninstall/reinstall/reboots of the bluetooth driver till it shows up - take off cables attached to your laptop and try connecting your bluetooth devices via wire to see if it wakes up the bluetooth radio.
Once it does, go to device manager-->bluetooth-->bluetooth hardware-->properties and the power management option of the bluetooth radio and turn off the ability for Windows to turn it off to save power. -

Not good. I'm getting the same DirectX BSOD every time I wake from hibernation. Doesn't happen on reboot or shutdown. Haven't tested sleep. I'm going to revert the nVidia driver to GB standard and see what happens.
edit: correction. I'm going to let the update utility get me to the latest nVidia driver and see what happens then.
edit edit: correction. I loaded the new nVidia drivers from yesterday via the nVidia site (399.07). They seem to have solved the hibernation BSOD. Will advise if any other BS events happen.Last edited: Aug 28, 2018 -
So - it looks like Gigabyte has apparently refreshed the keyboard on the 15X and the Shift, Tab, and Numpad Enter keys now have symbols instead of text. This makes the LEDs shine evenly on all keys.
(see here, and picture of updated keys attached from reddit thread)
What are the chances that Gigabyte could/would supply these changed keycaps to existing users? Can I now RMA my device to have them replaced?
-
I don't understand how after one year they still didn't add an option in Gigabyte Fusion to automatically turn off the keyboard backlight when AFK.
They implemented dozens of stupid animations (who uses something else than "static" in the end?) but not standard features by other brands.
When I'm AFK the screen will turn off after a few minutes but there is no timeout for the keyboard backlight, it will uselessly remain 'on' forever...frostwarefx likes this. -
Can anyone confirm if the SSD that came with my Aero 15w that I bought in September 2017 is NVME or sata?

According to Newegg, is NVMe.

Hi all. About a month ago, I bought a Gigabyte Aero 15x (i7-8750H with NVidia 1070MaxQ).
Everything went really well until this morning when I opened it and the screen was completely black (no power), instead the keyboard and the LEDs worked. The Gigabyte logo also lights up.
I connected it via HDMI to an external monitor and it worked. I tried to look through Computer-> Manage if the screen is being seen, but it does not appear. It can not be seen in either the display settings or the NVidia Control Panel . I tried all the possible key combinations, FN + F1,2,3 etc.
I wonder if there is an option in Bios or something similar to turn laptop display off ... I cannot view the bios configuration menu on an external screen.. so can anyone help me with the key combination to reset the bios to default values, save and exit ? (Something like F2 to enter bios, down down down, left down etc..)
I would be grateful if someone had another idea that I can try, without opening the laptop back panel. If not, I will probably send it to the warranty. Thank you.
(Sorry for my bad english)

Anyone else unable to switch between on and of the touchpad? I can press fn + 10 as many times as I want but always shows the pop up "TouchPad On". Any fix?

After Windows 10 1803 was not stable on my AERO 15 even with the latest nvidia drivers, I mailed Gigabyte support. They suggested that I use the latest nvidia driver from the Gigabyte support page. There, I found the recently added 24.21.1 3.9882, which I decode as 398.82, so exactly the driver version that was already installed and not properly working on my AERO 15. Still, I tried: I used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Windows Safe Mode to cleanly uninstall nvidia driver and then installed the driver Gigabyte provided.
System is still unstable, but the symptoms are different:
Sometimes the driver just "hickups" and restarts (which leaves a message like "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." in Windows event log).
Sometimes I get these beauties:
Sometimes the screen just turns black and the monitor show a message that there is no signal. Then I unplug the external monitor or blindly type Windows+P to switch back to the internal display.
To exclude cabling issues, I switched from the mini display port to HDMI connection. Now I sometimes see this on my external display:
In terms of stability, this notebook is the worst hardware I ever had. -
Hi everyone, I have the v8 Aero 15 and I just wanted to say that I followed someone's advice to update all of the intel chipset and graphics drivers to the latest versions using Intel's website (regardless of what Gigabyte claims). After doing this, the laptop has been much much more stable and all of the mouse stutters have disappeared.

I hope this helps some of you also!gnlu26 likes this. -
but from my experience maybe it was due to the loosen of eDP cable so maybe just go for the warrantyAndrei Ungureanu likes this. -

Hi All
Did someone have the same issue with the Aero chassis bending over time. Mine had a "dip"/concave bent between the bottom of the space bar and the top of the trackpad, I also noticed MobileTechReview's review unit had the same issue. Also due my laptop has a convex bend, this time, at the bottom of the touchpad resulting with gaps on the sides between the lid and the palmrest when the laptop is closed.
Luckily the bend occured at the bottom of the laptop and not on the top where the GPU and CPU is located as that may cause issues in the future (disconnected solder joints maybe or fan noise?).
Does anyone know of a good hard case for this laptop? I went with this laptop instead of a Dell XPS 15 and MSI GS63VR as both were said to have the same chassis bending issues. Linus and his staff also had the same problem with their Razer Blades resulting in multiple RMA's.

Maybe an all plastic construction is the real way to go I guess. Or if they do choose aluminum, they should just go all the way with a unibody design and not choose a hybrid/combination of materials (Carbon Fiber (Dell) or Plastic (Gigabyte)).Last edited: Sep 5, 2018 -
