Hi Could you elaborate a bit on 'the ram seemed not have worked, but then they did', how did you resolve it?

Oh, the same thing that happened with the BIOS update. Screen off with Wifi and Power LEDs on. Waited then started doing reboots and hitting F2 until I was able to enter the BIOS and make it in. That's pretty much all that's happened to me and it's worked.

    Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased this stick of RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) based on the compatible list posted here. I had no issues whatsoever! It installed fine & was immediately recognized as well. My BIOS was updated prior to installing this stick. I can already notice some improvements.

Shout-out to HIDevolution! Got my unit from them right when they went on sale & haven't really had any issues

What BIOS are you on? Dual channel would not work for me on FB07. Have not tested FB08 yet.

Just wanted to add that I also have a V-Color stick which came with my unit. Just installed the G.Skill stick you
I'm on the most recent one, F08.

@ g85222456 Can we get the release note for FB08? Is it only CPU microcode? And no memory profile?

    Hi Marltonn,

Note the advertised timings of the linked G.SKILL: 18-18-18-43
If your 15x v8 came with the V-Color 16GB 2666 memory you'll only be able to run @ 2400 because of timing mismatch.

Here are the timings the V-Color stick has:
    • Supported Module Timing at 1333.3 MHz: 19-19-19-43
    • Supported Module Timing at 1200.0 MHz: 17-17-17-39
    • Supported Module Timing at 1066.1 MHz: 15-15-15-35
    • Supported Module Timing at 1000.0 MHz: 14-14-14-32
    • Supported Module Timing at 933.3 MHz: 13-13-13-30
    • Supported Module Timing at 866.7 MHz: 12-12-12-28
    • Supported Module Timing at 800.0 MHz: 11-11-11-26
    • Supported Module Timing at 733.3 MHz: 11-11-11-24
    • Supported Module Timing at 666.7 MHz: 10-10-10-22
Note that only the second timing profile matches the G.SKILL F4-2666C18-16GRS:
    • Supported Module Timing at 1333.3 MHz: 18-18-18-43
    • Supported Module Timing at 1200.0 MHz: 17-17-17-39
    • Supported Module Timing at 1066.1 MHz: 15-15-15-35
    • Supported Module Timing at 933.3 MHz: 13-13-13-31
    • Supported Module Timing at 800.0 MHz: 11-11-11-26
    • Supported Module Timing at 666.7 MHz: 9-9-9-22
    • Supported Module Timing at 600.0 MHz: 9-9-9-20
I know this because I'm running both on my machine right now.

Also an interesting tidbit - The two modules (V-Color & G.SKILL) only worked in one position configuration: G.SKILL in the slot closest to the front of the laptop (the unpopulated slot when you received your laptop). The laptop will black-screen-no-boot in the opposite configuration.

If your laptop came with a different memory unit in the originally populated slot, I'd be interested to hear if it's working at 2666 and if different memory position configurations worked. So far I haven't heard of anyone successfully installing 32GB @ 2666. None of the "compatible memory" entries are 32GB kits insinuating that it's not possible - despite advertisement.

Note: I haven't tried the FB08 firmware, I'm hoping this addresses the black-screen-no-boot problem so many have been having.

I have posted in this thread before, including being quoted above, about successfully running 32GB @ 2666 using Corsairs. Here's a picture with proof:

Similar situation here, sent back my ram back before the update came out. Waiting for a refund so I can buy either G.Skill again or Kingston.

Do you guys have the aero 15x v8? (important this model).

Can you send screenshot of HWinFo?

I'm at work (i cant check this right now), the screenshot is this:

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/News/_nc3/HWinFo.png

Go to Bus - PCI Bus - And search one of the PCIexpress root (see screenshot):

Even if you don't have any thunderbolt 3 device attached, you should see that bus, and the important info is:

    Pci Express:
    Version :
    Maximum Link Width:
    Maximo link speed:

I think this is to know if aero 15x v8 has full thunderbolt 3 support with 4 lanes (for better support eGPU).

Should be version 3 with 4x link and 8.0 GT/s

    Thanks!

When I customized the system, I did 32GB. They sent it with 2 Patriot sticks, but I realized they were running at 2400. This was before everyone knew how dumb the RAM situation was. HID confirmed it, and sent me the 2 Corsairs and I replaced them myself.

Upgraded afterwards, but it really shouldn't matter, the product should do what it's advertised to do. Using approved ram and not having it work is frustrating.

In my case, the Corsairs were not on the approved list. Not sure if the list has changed, but when I got then, the list that was out there was just G.Skill, Kingston and V-Color.

I'd be very grateful for your help. I have a 15x with a 7700HQ and a 1070MQ. The battery started draining in a way that I thought suggested that my attempts to set Civ 5 to run on Integrated Graphics (and thus battery) had triggered some sort of Optimus bug that was causing the 1070 to be engaged for all tasks. Although, windows task manager says that the 1070 is not being used, the Gigabyte Smart Dashboard is flicking between 'Idle' and saying that GPU is at 46 degrees celsius, while the battery continued to drain fast despite only having Firefox open.

However, thanks to a Reddit user it has become apparent that the problem is triggered when the laptop is turned on without being plugged into the AC - if you turn it on when plugged in and then go to battery, you don't get fast battery drain (regardless of whether it has anything to do with the 1070 or not). Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work 100% of the time and furthermore the user's suggested remedy of making sure you are on Smart Update's 'Official' rather than 'Latest' graphics drivers doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I know it shouldnt matter and as you said is frustrating. But if you brought it from the HIDevolution, they will make sure it will work but if you buy it yourself, even if is on the list, it is a hit or miss.

Thank you! I didn't have time to do more testing when I initially installed & it appeared to be fine. I've done some further checking tonight & you are right, it is only recognizing at 2400. I'm going to do what @g85222456 suggested by installed one ram & then the other & switching slots. I am on the updated BIOS so I'll see if it works. I hope they figure out a solution since I don't want to deal with the hassle of returning this RAM when hopefully they can fix it through a BIOS update. If they CAN'T fix it, then hopefully they will tell us...

    UPDATE:
When using JUST the G.SKILL F4-2666C18-16GRS my Aero 15x wouldn't boot properly (black screen) when in EITHER slot. I had to hold the power for a hard reset and it would turn itself back on...

When using BOTH G.Skill & V-Color in either slot, it would boot but at 2400 as stated before.

Obviously JUST the V-Color works fine and at the advertised speed. So yeah, we seem to have the same issues. I don't have 2x G.Skill sticks so I can't confirm that

Looking for some pre-purchase help & advice on ergonomics.

I'm ready to purchase a Gigabyte Aero 15X v8 from HIDEvolution, but I have one last concern: The ergonomics of the palm rest area.

Back the ASUS Zen Books first came out (years and years ago), I bought one and then had to turn around and return it. The problem was that the edge of the case (the front edge of the unit where you rest your palm) was a sharp corner rather than the nice chamfered edge they have now. It resulted in a stinging pressure point that dug into my palm and made it awful to use the system for longer than 10 minutes.

The Aero ticks all the boxes for me (except for the Web cam placement) except that I've never seen one in person. I live in Southern Oregon ("StickVille"), and so there's no easy way to get my hands on one to have a look.

If you're an Aero 15X user, could you help me out with that assessment? Could someone post a close-up view of that area? I heard the edge is kind of sharp, and that indented relief area they included to make it easier to open the lid worries me too.

Appreciate any help you could offer.

    Thanks!

I have tested with my two G.skill stick. My aero 15 came originally with a Kingston OEM ram (CBDxxx something). The machine won't boot when two stick installed at the same time. However it will boot with 1 g.skill stick and the original kingston ram.

I'm done with it. I will issue an RMA to my local service centre. If I can get a refund, I'll go with DELL XPS15 because I'm only do casual gaming but main productivity tasks. Otherwise I'll leave to the service centre to figure out a way to install the ram for me.

Has anyone managed to installed Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809?

I have tried several times and it keeps failing at 30%, reboots then states it's "Undoing changes made to your computer..."

    The error code is 0x800704b8.

Hey guys. I've had my Aero 15w v8 for a while now. I really like it, despite a few little issues I've had with it (mostly driver issues etc.)

I'm having this problem at the moment where I don't use the SmartManager power options (I use either the Windows default Balanced plan or my own, custom plans). This normally works fine, and SmartManager always says I'm using a "Custom" Plan, as I would expect. HOWEVER, anytime the computer is woken from sleep, it keeps reverting back to the "Smartmanager High performance" plan within the control panel power options section. In SmartManager itself, it still says I'm using a custom plan, however this is clearly not the case.

I tried getting around the issue for a while by setting up the three SmartManager power plans how I wanted them in the control panel, which worked for a while (I figured "well, SmartManager wants to take control of my power plans, that's fine, I'll let it do that"). However, one day (I can't remember if it was after a SmartManager update or not, but there have been a couple since anyway), it duplicated the Smartmanager High performance plan with the default settings and started using that again. Ever since then, trying to customise this plan seems to have the same outcome (it creates a default duplicate and my customised plan isn't used).

As I said before this is not unique to the current latest version of SmartManager, and I updated to Windows 1809 last night and I'm still having the same problem, so it's not that either.

Obviously, the problem isn't major, it only takes a couple of seconds to revert the plan to whatever I want after sleep. But it is frustrating, and I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced similar problems or found solutions etc.

I really wish I could uninstall SmartManager as it makes my personal experience with the computer more frustrating than it is helpful, however I can't see an alternative for things like fan control etc. so I guess it has to stick around.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Tim,

I can provide pictures in a few days, but from personal experience I don't have a problem with the edge of the laptop. The actual edge is a slightly rounded plastic, but the hand rest area seems to be large enough so that it's not a problem (unless you have the laptop up on a high shelf where you have to reach above your head).
The hand rest area is large enough so my palm and wrist are pretty much entirely on it whether typing or gaming. I haven't come away with lines on my wrist from the edge, and I have larger than average hands. I usually use the laptop where my forearms are resting on the desk surface in front of it.

FWIW I love this laptop, it has its problems (power profiles, memory compatibility or lack thereof, headphone jack issues, trackpad usage issues, webcam placement) but the mobility, power, and professional look outweigh these issues in my mind still. I've never had many ergonomic issues with this laptop, aside from the placement of a few keys (but that's more a personal issue than a design issue I think).

    Kingston HX426S15IB2K2/32 (KHX2666C15S4) is compatible.

    These are 16GB 2666 CL15 sticks.

Supported Module Timing at 1333.3 MHz: 15-17-17-35 CR 2T
There is both a JEDEC and XMP 2.0 profile at these timings, the laptop will obviously use the JEDEC profile.
One stick alone works, both sticks together work. No problems so far.

My sticks used samsung B-die (K4A8G085WB-BCRC)

These seem to be the fastest sticks that 8th gen non-overclocking intel laptops will support. This kit cost 265$. Pretty expensive, wouldn't recommend it at 1$ more.

Thank you for this!! Finally some concrete info on what actually works. I'm waiting for my 2nd GSkill RAM to arrive & if it doesnt work, then will be purchasing these. Where did you purchase your kit from? Lowest I could find was from Provantage for $288

Is there a reason you haven't updated your BIOS since version 5?

I got them from ebay a week ago when there was a sitewide 15% off.
I didn't update the BIOS because I didn't want to break anything. I was only going to update if the ram didn't work but fortunately it does.

Bad news, I have tried with two G.skill sticks. They don't work together. However 1 g.skill and 1 kingston CBDxxx ram would boot. I have contacted the local service centre for an RMA now. Either get a new machine or get refund eventually.

    Hi Folks,

I got my hands on aero15x v8 with v-color rams. I ordered another pair via a seems to be taiwan website https://global.pchome.com.tw/english/prod/DRAC13-A90095WGM and reached Singapore in about 1 weeks time.
I did 2 full runs on memtest86 uefi and it seems stable on the latest FB08 14/09/18 bios.

Solved the ACPI error 13, please look for intel driver HM370. I have updated and since no more ACPI error
However, like many i also have the ACPI error 13, does anyone know if there is a fix ? Still persist after updating the correct chipset driver.

    Thanks all for reading

It took me a couple of tries to get my GSKILL to boot in single channel. Had to boot with V-Color in Dual Channel, enter bios, restore optimal settings & save changes. Then it would boot with the single stick and allow me to enter bois & save changes. I did the same thing with the opposite configuration. You might have to mess with it a bit.

I have tried that which manages to get my machine boot with Kingston KVR ram in single channel. but no luck with G.skill this time. It looks like it's a case by case basis. I have returned the machine.

So after re-installing Windows from scratch to Windows 10, version 1809, I noticed that the laptop would no longer sleep/hibernate.

So this is how I fixed this issue:
    1. Open Settings
    2. Click on Update & Security
    3. Click on Troubleshoot
    4. Under Power click the "Run the troubleshooter" button
    5. Continue with the on-screen directions to fix the hibernation problem

    G.SKILL F4-2666C18-16GRS Memory Update:

Bios FB08 /F007 does not improve compatibility with this memory (2x 16gb units).
I'm going to return this and go with the Kingston HX426S15IB2K2/32 (KHX2666C15S4) as Margroloc mentioned and try my luck there.

I've got this laptop for 4 months now, thinking of a SSD upgrade because running out of space, should I go for another XG3 then use as raid 0 or just put whatever cheaper SSD?

It may be that the GSkill has to come in a 32GB kit, rather than buying two 16GB sticks separately. @ouhshuo did your 2x GSkill come together in a kit or separately?

I hear the Kingston kit is working for most, so you should be OK!

At this point I've tried two G.SKILL kits, both behaved the same way (didn't work) despite them being on the compatibility list. It's funny that the Kingstons work and are not on the compatibility list.

    FINALLY

Got "Kingston HX426S15IBK2/32 HyperX Impact 2666 CL15 32GB (16GBx2)" working on this maching at 2666MHz in Dual Channel. Running BIOS FB08 & EC F007 (latest firmware). Bought them as a "Kit of 2" from Newegg.

Best of luck to everyone else trying to install new ram on their machines, it was quite the hassle.

well, thx I guess it's whatever cheap SSD for upgrade, I thought it has 2 m2 slots, so I was considering for a raid.

And another question I just thought when I carried my laptop to work, can Aero 15x use a USB-C charger? I hate carrying that big ass charger with my laptop but sometimes I need it work more than 8 hours.

Just bc it has 2 m.2 slots doesnt mean it can raid.

No it cannot use USB-C charger. I would suggest buy another charger and leave it in your office. Thinking of doing that myself, getting the third party one since is a quarter of the price.

I just got my Kingston HX426S15IB2K2/32 32GB kit from ProVantage and it's FINALLY working at 2666MHz
    Here's proof running 32 GB at 2666, 15 17 17 35.

Ironic that the memory on the compatibility list doesn't work, yet memory not on the compatibility list does work.
Thanks everyone for the help! Now I have a spare V-Color that I'll probably be selling :)
