Is it thin? I bought OEM Firstmax 200watt and it is very big ( I own the original G-style with USB port too, but the connector are kinda flimsy and it is noisy)
I found something with similar size based on the amazon picture but it is only 180watt

Nice work! That's good to know, too-- I'll have to test mine more when I have time. Thanks,

I'd like to showoff the latest skin for my laptop as my top cover started to get scratches and dents from use on site.

So ive had this unit (FHD) for about 2 weeks now, and im extremely happy with it. Yes it has some oddities with its software, smart manager(s), hardware, picky with 2666 ram, but for the most part its been a solid device. I added a 2nd nvme.2 drive (evo pro 1tb) and 32gb of curcial ballistix and performance is very pleasing. Heat will always be an issue with thin gaming units, but a few simple mods and using headphones :) over came most of those issues for me. Well, to a point where its not a hindrance anymore.

Question; If one does a factory reset and uses just a strait variant of windows (non gigabyte ver), will all of the FN functions still work? Or are those tied to smart manager and Gigabytes ver of windows?

    Cheers

Follow the original tutorials in first post, I think it is possible and the latest smart manager is not as picky as earlier one afaik. If possible make a 1to1 copy or usb backup first.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I had a stuck "F" key, and fixed it by following your instructions. I used a nail file on the inner frame and its fine now. But goodness the quality control of Gigabyte...

I've read a lot about RAM here and I just want to make sure I get this right. My Aero 15X came with the Kingston 16GB stick with part number CBD26D4S9D8ME-16. Will this play well with the Crucial 16 GB stick with part number CT16G4SFD8266? What other sticks will this play well with? If people can be specific it would be helpful.. I read something like this asked earlier and someone simply replied that "the crucial one" works but without a specific part number there is some ambiguity there. Thank you!

Edit: also -- If it does work, does it work at 2666 rather than 2400? It seems like some pairing only works at the lower speed.

I have my keyboard replaced under warranty. Each key is working. It is the positive side. The negative side is that I spent $70 to pack carefully and send my laptop from BC to the only Gigabyte service for laptops in Canada, which is located in Ottawa. That is miserably. If I knew that Gigabyte did not have support service in BC (Canada), I would never by any laptop produced by Gigabyte. To compare: the cost of my Aero 15 is equatable to the new Apple MacBook Pro, and I have couple Apple Stores in the vicinity of my dwelling.

I can sell you my CBD26D4S9D8ME-16 if you're interested! Just got my laptop new and bought a kit from Amazon, so the stick in this unit is completely new.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before - I didn't read all 300+ pages of comments.

Anyway, before you sell your old ram, make sure your new kit works. I bought a set of GSkill Ripjaws that I saw were being used in Youtube video reviews and they will not work in the production model. I put 1 new SODIMM in and leave the stock one in and it boots / works fine. I put both new SODIMMS in and it will not boot.

Thanks for the offer, though I also today just opted to order a 2x8gb kit to replace the 16 gb. I figured 32 GB would be overkill for 99%+ of my needs so it'd be better to just sell the 16 GB and recover some of the cost.

Just upgrading the SODIMM with Corsair cmsx32gx4m2a2666c18 32GB dual-channel. Works flawlessly.
I also add NVME Samsung OEM PM961 1TB

Did also dual booting with W10 and Ubuntu 18.04.01 LTS, dual graphics Intel and Nvidia under Gnome 3.

    Awesome beast .....

Anyone have issues after updating their Aero 15v7 to the October (December) Windows update? My touchpad has gone bad.

On another note, I tried reinstalling my USB 3.1 drivers to see if it would fix my broken USB port, and it said that the USB Bus could not be found.

    Hi guys,
I just ordered an Aero 15x V8 with FHD screen, first model had keyboard problems (D key needed to be smashed) and creaks with the F5 one. I've received a replacement one which has totally different components inside, LG screen now before AU OPTRONICS, Kingston memory (before I don't know, could I find this through Windows information system? I've saved it...), Toshiba SSD and before a slow Transcend), also different keyboard running much better but having the right shift key with dimmer LED.
Could you please tell me if the LG screen is better than the AU OPTRONICS? I'm having backlight bleed too with this one... I'm shocked with the black level of this screen which is poor compared the the Sharp screen of my Dell Precision 5510 at work.
I don't know if I must give up on that Aero and wait for something else, new one supposed to be announced at CES beginning of January.
My unit looks better than my previous one but it's older regarding manufacturing period...
    Many thanks for your insights!

PS sorry posted my message on two topics, didn't know what was the best location

They should really allow third-party technicians to do repairs, rather than requiring an RMA. I've been suffering through a faulty keyboard because I can't afford to loose my computer for weeks on end-- that was why I bought an expensive new laptop in the first place! I won't buy another Gigabyte product ever again.

    Hi guys,

I have this question about the power settings under Smart Manager, as well as Intel SpeedStep.

Right now the 'balanced' setting caps the CPU processor speeds to 50%, with Intel SpeedStep enabled. Intel SpeedStep allows the cores to downclock when not under load.

High performance fixes them at close to 100%, and it just stays at the full clock speed even with there's no load.

Is there a way to enable Intel SpeedStep under 'high performance'? Essentially I would like the clocks to downclock when there's no load.

Create your own power profile and don't use the smart manager one.

Keep it on high performance in smart manager then in advanced power settings in windows, set the min processor state to a lower % of your liking

anyone have issues with fusion after a reinstall of windows? its acting up like crazy for me. will black out randomly and then only static colors will work and the wave option is at no brightness and wont let me change the option to make it brighter. tried diff versions an clean installs an such with no luck. the lights will stay on during boot but at desktop are off until i go into fusion and change the static color personally.

edit- after about a week of looking i may have found a way to fix my issue if any one els has this issue i have the AERO 15 (i7-7700HQ). All i did was download the fusion app from the driver page for the AERO 15 (i7-8750H) . Which is version 4.3.8 and its been about an hour with out the lights shutting off and wave effect is working now even if i reset the laptop.

edit- still happening after computer was asleep for a few minutes.

Changing the minimum processor state on the custom smartmanager profile under the Windows power settings does not actually enable speedstep. It is still stuck at about 3800MHz on high performance mode. So even though the setting is saved and I restarted the computer, it is still stuck without speedstep unlike the custom smartmanager balanced profile.

Is this something weird done by Gigabyte?

Also, after about a week of using the Aero 15x, I recently got this mysterious hanging / crashing at or just before the Windows login screen.

Basically when I boot up the computer after turning it off for a few hours, it just hangs at the Windows login screen. I have to force power off and restart and it will be fine. Any idea what is causing this?

Drivers are all at the "Official Version" as per Smart Update.

I use the Windows default "Balanced" profile (as opposed to the Smartmanager Balanced profile) along with Throttlestop profiles for AC/Battery, and just leave it on that Balanced profile all of the time. My CPU now fluctuates between 998 Mhz and 3900 Mhz without any additional fussing.

When I change the profile to the Windows "Balanced" profile, the settings that are applied appear to be the Smart Manager Balanced profile. Setting it to Windows Balanced and changing the advanced settings do not actually change anything, speedstep limits all appear fixed at the Smart Manager Balanced profile.

WTH is Gigabyte doing really. I just had to disable Windows 10 fast startup to stop a repeated crashing at the login screen.

Oops, I must have been mistaken... I double checked and I am actually on SmartManager Balanced profile. I don't mess with the profile anymore, as I just change Throttlestop settings. My bad.

It's too bad you're having a crashing login screen. I have not had a single crash since owning this laptop a bit more than a month, and I have not touched fast start up settings.

Unrelated: I replaced my RAM with a 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400 Mhz CL 16 kit. The laptop immediately booted and recognized the memory at the correct speeds. While not 2666 Mhz, at CL16 I think it's pretty good. Huge boost going from single to dual channel, as YT videos have shown.

If you want to use balanced, change the smart manager power plan to customized.

Unfortunately there is physical problem either on the screen panel or in the screen connector pin. I also faced similar issue like you. The concerning news is that this lines would increase as time goes on. I bought my Aero 15w V8 on September within a week after purchase I encountered this problem. The worse part was that I didn't have any Gigabyte service center in my home country (Bangladesh). I had to send it all the way to Gigabyte service center in Malaysia for RMA. verticallineonscreen2.jpg

Tried doing that, makes no difference whatsoever. Setting it to "customized" and setting the power options to "Windows Balanced" does not allow any of the settings changes to be effected after saving.

Hi, I finally managed to get HDR too after updating Windows 10 and GPU drivers.
    - Aero 15 2017 with GTX1060
    - Windows 10 October Update - 1809
    - Nvidia 25.21.14.1735
    - Intel HD 25.20.100.6471

With the October Update 1809 the HDR menu has been renamed as "Windows HD Color settings" and has been reworked with several settings:
    - Stream HDR video
    - Play HDR games and apps
    - Use WCG apps

I could enable HDR which was not possible in previous Windows versions. Then I launched Forza 7 and the HDR setting was available too.
I didn't have much time to test it yet but on my parents' 2015 Sony X85C TV this was not particularly impressive due to low peak brightness.
I'll try again on my own 2017 Panasonic EX750 with higher peak brightness when I'm back home.

Note: with the October Update and the latest Intel HD driver version, my internal screen is now sometimes flickering. I'm not sure but it looks like the X-Rite Pantone color profile is unloading then reloading very quickly.

Hi all, I need a little help with my 15X.
After updating to the latest windows build, my laptop now refuses to load windows properly. When it does, it will BSOD with the error critical_process_died, and at the next (several) boot(s), the boot drive will not appear.

How do I fix it? I was able to get into the windows repair menu once but I could not revert to the last build. I can't do a reinstall since the Aero 15 only supports UEFI OSes in the BIOS it ships with and I can't use my windows install USB :(

I seem to be stuck in a conundrum. Should I just RMA it?

    Update:
After running an SFC scan on a different PC, it appears that some files were indeed corrupted. The problems continue even after the files were fixed, though. The boot drive does not show up in either slot, even though an HP EX920 will. What should I do?

A few questions if you don't mind.

    1. Do you have an Aero 15X?
    2. If so, how well does the skin fit?
    3. Where did you get it from?

    tks!

Do you guys think there will be new BIOS update for RAM? Is been 2 months since the last update and that was only a minor update (only microcode). Or they are just focusing on the v9 with a GTX 11/RTX 20?

UEFI shouldn't stop you from using a windows install usb unless you flashed the usb for legacy only. You could always remake or make another usb following the steps here.
