Finding the fan noise extremely loud when running games (specifically Overwatch on ultra settings). Is there an adjustment that can be done? The machine doesn't seem to be getting very hot but the fan kicks in immediately on running the game.

in SmartManager for Fan Tweak you can select between Normal and Gaming or even choose Customize or Deep Control.

Note that how hot the machine looks like from the outside is not a good criteria. You should rather watch the internal temps (CPU and GPU)

You basically control the fan speed according to the temp (it's not mentioned GPU or CPU, I assume it's either GPU only or both together). 10 steps possible.
So for example if you want you can set that the fan is starting only from 50°C (just a random example, not an advice)

Ah thanks. Had not even seen that in the dashboard settings (which looks pretty dated to be honest!).

It was on "Gaming" setting but I put it back to "Normal" and it seems quieter now.

I've also enabled the thing in Geforce Experience named "Whisper Mode" which claims to make the laptop quieter while playing games when plugged in. It did adapt all the game settings to match this mode so hopefully it won't lower game performance too much. Yet to test it out.

That deeep control looks interesting, and if it holds between reboots means I wouldn't have to keep switching between quiet and gaming profiles (like to have the fans off on idle).

Were you able to get the mDP working then? Odd that the passive cables don't work, they worked fine on my other laptops.

Is anyone else having issues with the Nvidia GeForce Experience tray icon?

I installed GeForce Experience but it only runs when I manually start it, not on startup, and there is no option in settings to get it to start when I start the PC. Also the tray icon is non existent so I don't know when there are driver updates (upon closing GEFX it closes rather than minimizing to the tray).

Have spent some time researching the issue and some threads talk about enabling the tray application manually in the registry, but I don't even have the registry folder that talks about the tray icon, nor do I have the files in Program Files such as the .dll file that the NVTray registry key is meant to reference.

I have reinstalled the drivers but it has not changed anything.

Anyone else experienced similar? (Starting to wish I had done a clean install on first getting this laptop rather than going with the OEM software install).

The new GFE doesn´t run in the tray anymore to have lighter footprint, or so they say. Either way it is running in the background, according to services.

My GeForce tray icon is always present even on startup and when not in use as well. I'm using the latest driver from NVidia and not from smart update as that driver version is older.

is the fact that the Aero 15 doesn't support 120hz annoying for gaming or basic desktop experience?
Still don't know what to get between the Aero 15 and the new MSI GS63VR w/ Max-Q & 120hz panel

If you've always used a 60hz monitor, you'll never notice, because you've never known. In other words, if you've never used high refresh, then you can't see low refresh.

If you're coming from a 100+hz monitor, you'll definitely notice because it's one of those things you can't "unsee".

But, as with all things, getting used to it is a matter of time.

I'm lucky enough that I have no issues switching between high refresh and 60hz.

While it would be nice, the standard is still 60Hz, which I don't mind since this isn't being marketed as a gaming laptop.

Ok so i just received the power supply i posted some days ago.

Pros: specs are the same, plug is the same, works just fine out of the box

Cons: this thing is HUGE! Godzilla can trip over it and it will not move :p its like 2/3 of the original in length and about 3 times thicker!

In any case it will be sitting on my office so no problem with it...

    cheers!

Im having a screen color issue with a brand new Aero 15 that I cant seem to resolve. While watching netflix or amazon video, with the subtitles running, there is a definite color "shift" everytime the subtitles appear. When the subtitles go away, like during a pause in the dialogue, the color shifts back. Ive tried using the native color and disabling the Pantone in the smart manager, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas or anyone with similar issue?

If you want to test, Narcos on Netflix, season 3 episode 9, right after the intro where Pena and director are at their desks talking, its quite obvious. Make sure you have the mouse cursor in the middle of the screen so the timeline disappears and of course have subtitles running.

I hadn't noticed until I read your post.
It happens to me on youtube, when the controls appear/disappear,

On a sidenote, does anyone play DOOM on their laptop?
I have not been able to get rid of the crazy lag that I get when I run the game. It's the only game in my library that's affected. Any ideas?

I haven't noticed the color shift but I'll check today when I get into the office.

Does this have to do with the Pantone profile disabling when in full screen 3d mode? I know with games the profile doesn't carry over unless you play in windows borderless.

Could it be related to full screen videos and hardware acceleration in browsers?

Or does it happen when videos aren't full-screen also?

I just downloaded the Netflix app from the internet explorer store, and while playing shows through the app itself, there is NO color shifting. However, within the web browser, full screen or windowed, Netflix does show a color/brightness shift when subtitles appear. This is through internet explorer and chrome. Any settings you can think of that may be causing this? Hate to send it back, as I love the notebook in every other way so far.

Netflix is not available in my country so I'm afraid I can't test it for you, and I'm not savvy enough to know why it's happening.

FWIW, I've been watching Youtube all day with CC on and I'm not seeing any colour shift of the sort you mention.

It is weird that it doesn't happen in the Netflix app.

Is it a very drastic colour shift? Does it ruin the video quality? Lastly, and this might give us a hint as to why it's happening, when you screenshot your screen, does the colour shift show?

Perhaps others with different models of laptop are having similar issues that a Google search might ping up?

Did anyone receive the review reward from gigabyte after leaving an online review and emailing them your invoice? I'm curious about the turnaround time for receiving the gift. I left my review in this forum and just waiting to hear back from them with the reward voucher . .

Hi folks I hope someone can help me... and sorry if its been covered but I cannot read 124 pages to find out!

I am interested in buying the Aero 15 but I'm being given some contradictory info from the different resellers here in my country (South Africa).
The one reseller only has it in orange (not my taste), the other says they can get it in my preferred black, but its more expensive.
The more expensive shop claims their specs are higher - theirs is supposedly a GTX1060 while the other is "only" a 1060M. Also the more expensive one is "Pantone X certified" where the other just says IPS.

If I Google the product codes I get a third party website which indicates the machines are the same (both 1060M) but then again this particular website also says they have a 1T HDD which is also not supposed to be the case seeing as the product code includes 512 (which is supposedly 2 x 256 SSDs).

So ARE THERE different versions? Are there some with 1060M and others with 1060? Are there some with non-PantoneX screens? For that matter are there different speed SSDs in different versions because the one website claims ultra fast and the other doesn't?
Or would I land up paying more just for a different colour....?

    Thanks
    (a confused) divv

That particular vendor is not being truthful.
There is no MQ configuration in these machines (yet) or different screens. There might be differences in the SSD in certain regions, but it depends, usually they are the same for a specific region.

Thanks Vistar Shook.. So now I suppose I must decide whether to pay the extra regardless for the different color.. One other difference there MAY be between the 2 options is the orange one comes with 2x 256 SDD and the black comes with a single 512.. Not sure if either of those is a a good thing...?

At least in the US, I know there is a 1TB model that only comes in black. While I probably wouldn't buy from a dishonest retailer as a matter of principle, it's possible that they're charging more because the model they're selling really is better.

As an alternative, Gigabyte does have a 2 year global warranty, so you should check out Amazon.com shipping prices.

I know where I live, it is often cheaper to get a computer component, or even a laptop, from America on Amazon.com and ship it (or, heck, even sites like HID are sometimes cheaper), because we have a rather hefty technology markup here. It's not a tax either, just a weird markup that exists across all computer parts with the exception of CPUs, which are often cheaper than their US counterparts. Weird.

In the event you need a warranty service, you just have to contact your local Gigabyte office.

One problematic thing about doing this is if you get a DOA. Returning it to Amazon will be a bit of a pain, but if you complain loudly enough they may reimburse you your shipping.

Otherwise, how much more is the black one? I mean, percentage wise? All else being the same, I'd rather have the single 512 stick than 2x256 sticks because when you add a second ssd and keep the first, you're keeping a larger volume.

@ Dannya951 - I unfortunately have few options as to who to deal with without paying even more; I also think the guy MAY be less informed as opposed to dishonest ..
@ Cedric FP - I considered the Amazon route but few of the shippers send to my country, the one that does only has a more expensive "bundle" including a bag and games, by the time I've added shipping and ad valorum and VAT it is more expensive.
Re the 2 drives vs 1: I also would have thought the 512 single is a better option for adding on, but I was told that 2 working together actually made for a faster setup? (Ironically, it was the same seller of the black version who told me this.. But looking at the quote he sent me I think his one has the single drive!)
To answer your question though, percentage wise its 4% more for the black version.

Does anyone know a good store in Europe? I live in Belgium and it is almost impossible to find one below €2300 for some reason. I could maybe get one from USA but as told above, with VAT and all that **** its still around €2k and its harder to send it back incase anything is wrong.
    Any suggestions?

Does "good store" mean = cheap price? Hum...

The model is quite recent so you obviously won't find it brand-new at a price way below the MSRP...

It's at €2250 on this serious and famous French website https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00229989.html
They ship to Belgium. Note that it would be a French AZERTY keyboard, not a Belgian AZERTY one.

Did anybody notice some micro-stuttering on Youtube videos with Firefox?
    - Each stuttering is during a few milliseconds only and repeating several times in a video.

For example in the video above the 1st one usually occurs at around 00:08, the second one at 00:15 and so on...
    - It's not a FPS drop. If you look at Youtube stats for nerds, there isn't a single dropped frame
    - It doesn't depend on the resolution or framerate. The same with 480p30 or 1080p60
    - It doesn't occur in other browsers like Internet Explorer
    - It does also occur with a fresh Firefox install
    - It doesn't occur when forcing using the GTX1060 in Firefox so it looks like it's related to the Intel IGP
    - All drivers up to date and it already occured in previous drivers

Sum up: Firefox + Intel IGP + Youtube = micro-stuttering on my unit

OK Friends I need some help. I'm trying to install and EVO 960 into my Aero 15 and I'm running into a problem. When I have the EVO installed by itself everything is good. However, when I put the LiteOn mSATA SSD back in to format so I can use it for bulk storage the computer rolls right bast the EVO and boots from the mSATA drive even when I have the EVO selected as the primary boot drive and the secondary drive disabled. Also when it boots from the mSATA drive the EVO doesn't show up in the "This PC" folder but it does show up in Device Manager and all the Samsung software sees the drive as well.

Here's how I had the BIOS setup when both were installed...

Also, here's what it looks like when I boot with that setup. Both drives are in the computer here...

    - Do you have BIOS FB09/F007 installed?
    - Did you try to switch the SSD physically? I guess it shouldn't make a difference but just to be sure. I put the EVO 960 into the primary slot and moved the original SSD (on my unit the Transcend, not the LiteON) to the free secondary slot.
    - Maybe Windows is confused by seeing 2 bootable system partitions? Well, here again it shouldn't be an issue normally. Before formatting the original Transcend SSD to use it as a "Documents" drive, I first started the PC with 2 system SSD too...

    Hello,

    The BIOS version is FB09/F007.

I tried swapping the slots the drives were in with the same results.

I'm thinking is a wrong setting in the BIOS. Maybe the drives are using the same lanes and it's getting confused?

    Hey Divv,

I'm from South Africa and I bought my unit 3 weeks ago. I think I bought the last black unit from Rectron (sorry :D) The black is R1000 more than the other colours. Don't worry about how the resellers list the specs because they all list it wrong, they say it has a HDD but the laptop only takes m.2 drives. The specs are as per what's listed on the gigabyte website. Only the configuration will differ in whether you get 1x16GB ram / 2x8GB ram or 1x512GB SSD / 2x256GB SSD and the brands of ram and SDD, and it's just the luck of the draw really unless you buy from Evetech which I think they open the units and reconfigure as to what you ordered. When I picked up my unit it came sealed in an international shipping box with the backpack and mouse in it so that's how you know the reseller hasn't opened it. I actually wanted the black backpack but ended up with a light grey one :( You can read my review here Let us know how your purchase goes! :)

@ frostware fx.. thanks for the info - very helpful. I recall reading a review where the green option was supposed to be more expensive.. I'm not sure why the black should be but I have witnessed this in my local searches.

Lets HOPE there is at least one more black version in the country.. the supplier claims they have access.. and I would really prefer NOT to go with the orange.
I have asked for them to specify the RAM/SSD config (with the holiday on Monday I will have to wait until Tuesday for an answer..)
As per your review, the single stick of RAM would make for easier upgrading.. although re the SSD vs two SSD's I'd be tempted to immediately take one out and sell it to pay towards an upgrade.. maybe I would succeed or maybe it would just sit on the shelf...
Oh well, I've spent a week getting to the point where I think this is the machine for me.. another few days won't kill me and either option would work..

    Thanks again!

    Hello,

I have purchased an Aero 15 through GenTech, after reading through this thread I am hoping that mine is relatively problem free based on the stories about GenTechs CS.
I was wondering if people think its worth getting an external 144hz monitor for gaming at either 1080p or 1440p. I understand that the 1060 might struggle to push anything very high on a 1440p display but with the possibility of a eGPU in the future it might be worth getting one?

    Thanks

I've played some games on my 1080p 144, and it's been great. SW Battlefront on max was beautiful.

Do you think 1440p would be too much though?

I don't think so, I was able to get Overwatch running at 1440p with high framerates (~110 fps) with Ultra-ish settings,
