In regards to the keyboard issue, can any October buyers of the Aero 15 confirm whether the issue of some shortcuts not working is still there? And what is the light usage battery life like? Thanks.

So I ordered mine in late September and I have no issues with the keyboard as far as I can tell. I have tested it in multiple different keyboard testing software and the only issue that came up was that both shifts register as the left one but I dont know if that matters for you.
I am getting 7-8 hours of battery life when taking it to class for university so word docs, internet etc. using chrome so I think thats pretty good considering I havent undervolted yet and havent tweaked the settings either.

    Hi everyone:
I've been watching this thread for a while, and just got my aero 15 today :)
I have to say the build quality is above what I expected, but I am wondering why I am unable to get more than about 5 hrs of battery life. I have updated smart manager, I've got nvidia optimus set up, the dGPU is not running, I've even undervolted (approx -140mV, haven't pushed it yet), I've got the power plan set up for battery, yet battery bar pro is showing a discharge rate of 15,000 - 20,000mW. I was expecting closer to 9 hours with the laptop configured properly... what am I missing? My last laptop (Acer aspire V15 Vn7-592G) would run well under 10,000mW in this configuration.
    Thanks

Any monitoring applications like MSI Afterburner? That was the cause of my bad battery life (for some reason).

That's fine. The GPU would still be inactive since the monitoring programs don't use it.
Any other monitoring programs? Also, I don't have experience with Windows 7 so I wouldn't know if that's a factor.

    Yep, no problem.
Maybe try a clean re-install of your dGPU drivers.

Still having issues with the battery life, question about the dGPU activity, the indicator in the taskbar supplied by the nvidia drivers shows the gpu as inactive, but gpuZ shows the gpu running (at a low clock speed but still) and smart manager shows the dGPU temp rather than saying "idle". This behavior persists even if I close and re open the monitoring software. Shouldn't the dGPU temp be unreadable when its inactive?

Love Dave 2D. Saw this on his channel and did it. Much better, though I don't think the ELAN implementation on this laptop is as bad as it usually is.

Kill the monitoring application's service (or temporarily uninstall it). That will help.

PS: Just to make sure it's not the battery, turn off Hardware acceleration in the BIOS (basically disables the dGPU completely) and see what the battery life is then.

Hey guys, been reading a lot on the forum and just got my Aero 15. I was wondering if anyone has a fix for the time it takes to open and load regular tasks like opening the file explorer or chrome. It takes me about 4 seconds to just open the file explorer and some more to just load chrome.

Also, the pesky icons in the start menu keep popping back up after i restart my computer after I remove them, any fix for that?

Actually, windows just crashed after opening chrome. I got this from GentechPC with the addition to 32gb ram and added the CLU on the CPU and GPU. Would anyone know what I can try to download to fix it or a driver that might need updating?

Hey anyone noticed any screen lighting changes when watching Netflix? I bought the laptop when it first came out and didn't notice this a few months back. I just started using the laptop again after 2 months because I was stuck in the hospital but now noticing that it happens on Netflix only and not youtube. On smart manager I have it set on X-Rite Pantone color, don't know whats going on.

Hi all, Just picked up a Aero 15 and i want to hook it up to my two monitor setup. Can anyone tell me if the laptop will support a thunderbolt 3 to Duel Displayport adapter? I' ve read a few things that it can only support one monitor out of the TB3 port, but its hard to confirm?

    Cheers!

    Hello Everyone !
I have been following this thread from last few months, since I started looking for a gaming laptop for myself. I got my Aero 15 about 3 weeks ago and after all the helpful info I found here, I feel obligated to write my short review here.

I looked for a right laptop for so long as:
    1. I am big into 3D graphics (3dDS Max, Substance Painter), so needed both performance & colour accurate display.
    2. Still in college and travel abroad a lot, so battery life was quite important for me.
    3. Coming from MacBook Pro 2014, got used to good quality machine.

So I bought my Aero 15 from Spain ( www.pccomponents.com), great customer service and price lower than from Amazon.co.uk or german websites, although delivery took 3 weeks time.
First of all I was seriously shocked by its size! Its is so small in dimensions, you would never say it is such a performance beast! Just few mm thicker than my macbook pro but smaller in circuit (not sure if its the right word sorry). Let's keep it easy to read so:

    PROS:
    • Overall good build quality, obviously not as good as Macbook Pro but much better than most of gaming laptops I have seen, keyboard feels sturdy.
    • Seriously gorgeous display, except lower resolution than my mac (was 2800 x 1900) I can't tell big difference between their vivid colours it's and now I don't have those bloody scaling issues while using Windows via bootcamp! :D Imo it literally crushes all the gaming laptops displays I have seen around in the shops & college.
    • Battery is just great, on 30% brightness (which is still pretty good) and using word it showed me 11h+ lol,
    • Cooling is also surprisingly good for such a thin laptop, I did some rendering in 3ds MAX and fans are about 50% while CPU is 75 celcius which is GREAT.
    • Laptop is dead quiet under light usage
    • System performance is good, although mine Aero came with TS256GMTS800 which from what I see is pretty slow nvme
    • Didn't have a chance to play anything else other than Smite, everything full with 200% textures scaling, around 130fps+
    • I was really concerned about keyboard ghosting but didn't find ANY GHOSTING ISSUES so far
    • Keyboard RGB lighting is great
    • Fingerprint is not as bad as I thought it is manageable to keep the laptop clean
    • No problems connecting my 24-inch HP monitor

    TOLERABLE:
    • Back light bleeding is present but I cannot notice it while normal usage, only in the evening when booting up the machine. IT IS VERY SMALL in my case, not even close to the famous video of that guy complaining about his
    • Mouse coursor tends to freeze for few milliseconds when graphic switches
    • Gigabyte Fusion software can be slow and glitchy
    • Trackpad is just fine (above average), needs some time to get used to it

    CONCERNS
    • Since I Play smite on this machine it's very laggy but not sure if its either my bad internet provider, windows 10 problems or laptop driver / wi-fi card - Anyone else has that issue?
    • Display hinges seems to be are a bit weak (it falls down when reaches about 30 degress) not so annoying but worth to mention
    • USB hubs are very tight
    • Camera image quality isn't great
    • Could not find out how to get that battery indicator to work
    • Top panel seems to be delicate, it is relatively easy to scratch it, I wish it was made with same material as the keyboard panel
    • Too much bloatware

To 3D artists and other content creators:
Guys, the ability to light each key with different colour + mapping one KEY to different keys combinations is so cool I can't stress it more! For example I lid up only my 3ds Max shortcuts, giving each category different colour. I also, for example, mapped F12 to act as SHIFT + ALT + C so it runs one of my scripts. The possibilities are endless and it speeds up and make your workflow very comfortable.

    Conclusion:
Sorry guys, did not expect this review to be so long. Overall I am super happy with the laptop so far, its light weight and battery life are perfect for a student. Super display and GTX 1060 are great for content creators and gamers. I will take some pictures with mapped and lighted up keys for 3ds max workflow,I am sure some of you will like it.

Thanks everyone for all the useful information I found on this forum before my purchase !

I only see an improvement on my CPU side.

Should be ELAN since the Aero 15 uses ELAN drivers.

    Hey guys!
A friend of mine got one of these, looks like a beastly machine.
Just wondering, any real important tweaks that have to be made on it? Thanks!

Also, what kind of undervoling voltages are you guys running?

And lastly, does it need a BIOS update? Can't find a changelog so I'm being precaucious. Is the BETA BIOS any better?

And he's having some keyboard issues. What's the best keyboard firmware? The latest?

    Thanks!

I'm running my CPU at -0.125mV but I think it can go farther.
The BIOS update is useful if you use TB3 for eGPUs or anything else of the kind, since AFAIK it enabled the full speed of the TB3 port @ 40Gbps (used to be ~18Gbps I think).

Is anyone having issues with external displays? I have my Aero 15 plugged into my 24" 1440p monitor outputting at that resolution. If I leave and come back after awhile, my monitor is dark and I have to open the lid of the laptop and then re-adjust which screen it's projecting to using the F hot key. Unfortunately, it seems a high percentage of the time, I'll then get a BSOD and the computer will restart.

Anyone else seeing this? I've also just seen some other general wonkyness where it doesn't seem to want to display correctly or I'll get weird colors or something on my monitor until I reconnect the HDMI cable which will fix it.

Has anyone tried using the latest nvidia driver on the gigabyte site for the Aero 15x, on the Aero 15?

I wanted to use a more updated driver and so I initially used the latest onefor notebooks direct from the nvidia site. However, it resulted in an annoying bug with a black screen when resuming from sleep with a connected external monitor (via HDMI) as described here: http://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/2197/gigabyte-aero-15-booting-problem

I've reverted to gigabyte's latest one for the Aero 15 in the meantime.

I hopped on the Aero 15 train about a month ago and I LOVE IT! My only issue is the left USB 3.0 port, for some reason, it doesn't want to install drivers for new devices, it supplies power to some things like my USB fan but not others like my Keyboad. Furthermore, it does data with my external HDD but my literally no other device will connect when plugged in, sometimes a flash drive will flicker but it never shows up in windows. This leads me to believe that it's more a software/firmware issue? It's really strange and I really don't want to send this laptop in for repair. If anyone has had a similar issue or knows a potential fix, that would really help me out!

Is your external HDD self-powered or using external power?
Looks like your USB port is not able to deliver power and transmit data at the same time. That doesn't look good and may be an hardware issue.

For people who encounter micro-stuttering on Youtube with Firefox and iGPU, it looks like the latest Windows Fall Creators Update (1709) fixed the issue in my case. I'm happy!

Got a -150mV working pretty easily. Temps are way way better now. CPU was thermal throttling in BF1 quite fast before.

I updated the BIOS and keyboard firmware, but there’s a keyboard issue making me crazy. Some keys just don’t work when others are pressed. For instance, in CS GO if I’m moving quietly ( W and SHIFT ), TAB wont work. Some other key combinations also won’t work when pressed together

How is your monitor connected? HDMI, miniDP, TB3, etc? What is the error code?

Does it happen ever time, or is it more likely to happen after a long sleep (e.g. overnight)?

Is it HDMI or DP over USB-C?

Mine is DPAlt over USB-C (so runs off the CPU).
My mDP doesn't work because I don't have an active cable.

    Hi All,
Brand new on this forum, don't know if I should present myself so kindly let me know if requested.

I am willing to purchase the Aero 15 or Aero 15 X
I used to order my laptops to schenker (clevo) without OS, so it been a while I havent received a preinstalled laptop.

Can you guys let me know what partition is set in factory
is it full 500Go for C drive or shared

I have read most of your posts here, but I need few confirmations :

in order to backup the version and licence of windows that comes with the computer
Media Creation tool from microsoft ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 ) will do the job ? no need for anything else ?
will it backup windows only or include all bloatwares and currently installed softs
will it backup the installed drivers ?

Once I got my ISO or windows USB stick,
can I safely format the original SSD and install windows on a new SSD ?
or is there any trick ?

Will be glad if you guys can answer those few questions
    Thanks a lot

    sylvain

I wouldn't bother going to that length if you necessarily have to (like installing a 1TB SSD). It's one large partition and a small part dedicated to the recovery partition. I'd advise leaving the recovery partition alone. Create a recovery USB before doing anything as there have been a few people here replacing the SSD not doing that and messing up the laptop as the SSD didn't work.

    Hi agent_pires
    thanks for your answer.
just to make sure I got your point well (I am not native english speaking...)

HDMI and I don't remember the error code, unfortunately which would be a key element. The next time I see it, I will post!

Seems to happen after just a couple of hours. If I leave my laptop and then go run an errand or something and come back is when I see it.

Yes so the main drive is split into recovery and main data. You can create the recovery USB using the pre-installed gigabyte tool as it has everything device specific needed for the laptop.

So I got my laptop in and it keeps saying a USB device not recognized and the keyboard isn't working at all. Is that a hardware issue, or is it something that can be resolved through driver or bios updates?

Edit, so it looks like if I put certain pressure on parts of the keyboard it disconnects, but if I push in a little from the bottom of the laptop it reconnects. Does anyone know where the keyboard connection is on the inside to see if it has a loose connection somewhere? I got it used for 1600 with and extra Samsung 960 pro 512 gb and 32 gb ram, so I would love to keep it if I can solve the keyboard disconnection, if not I might have to send it back.

    Thanks

I used Intel XTU as I find it simple to use. I was able to get mine to -135mV.

What do you stress test with for stability?

I use the built in Stress Test for the CPU. Additionally I have a USB-C monitor (runs off the CPU) and OW running in the background. Someone was able to get -150mV but I couldn't get that on my end.

The best way would be to just test it at small increments.

^This video has what I'm trying to say. I didn't follow this guide exactly since I knew that the CPU is definitely stable at -135mV. I haven't dared to go beyond it.
