    So you dont use the built in stress test for the GPU?
    How long do you run the test for? In the video he mentions running prime 95 overnight?

    I don't touch my GPU volting, only the CPU.
    I still use Intel XTU on a half hour loop while I do other things.

    Sorry I didnt mean touch GPU voltages but there is a GPU stress test built into XTU that you could run simultaneously with the CPU to simulate a heavy gaming load?
    I got through a 30min stress test at -150mV but when I tried to play WoW it crashed within about 10mins, dropped it back to -125mV for now and it seems to be ok but will do further testing this weekend

    I suggest trying -135mV. I don't think I've tried running the GPU and CPU stress test simultaneously, but I think it should still be fine.

    Has anyone's webcam stopped working after a windows 10 update?

    Edit: Fixed. Gigabyte's stupid "smartmanager" software disabled the camera at the hardware level for no reason. It was missing from device manager which made me think my device was faulty.

    Anyone try one of these with a EGPU? Mainly a gigabyte gaming box, thinking about getting one and a EGPU setup ( GTX 1080 when it comes out).
    Really interested to see what the performance difference is on the built in screen and not external monitor.

    IMO not really sure why you'd need more GPU for 1080 gaming. But 4K and VR, different story.

    Thanks for your reply, it's very strange because the HDD is not powered so the port is able to do data and power simultaneously, just not to most devices. I've never had an issue like this before...

    Another weird issue...is anyone having trouble getting this thing to come back from sleep? Using it in bed last night, I closed the lid and put the computer on my nightstand next to me. Today, I go to fire the computer up after redocking it (plugging in mouse, HDMI, power, keyboard, etc) and it doesn't want to turn on. Battery charge light is on but the power button does nothing. I press and hold the power button and the activity lights tick down and flash, the power button still does nothing after this.

    Finally, I unplug the power, wait about 15 seconds, plug it back in again and press power and the computer fires up. However, it gets stuck at the Gigabyte BIOS screen. I wait about 30 seconds and power it down again by pressing and holding the power button. Try the power button again, it fires up normally, I log in and everything resumes the way I had it last night like nothing ever happened.

    Does anyone know what the deal is with this behavior? I'm updated as far as I can tell on the BIOS revisions.

    Sleep or hibernate?

    In my posts a few pages ago, I had a similar issue which I said was "from sleep". But it turns out the issue was occurring with hibernation (this is the default when closing the lid).

    When you close the lids, do any of the white status LEDs remain on and flashing? If yes, thats sleep, otherwise it's hibernation if they're all off.

    Note that I haven't tested if the issue occurs with *actual* sleep.

    ----

    I sent a ticket into gigabyte but they want me to send the laptop in, despite this being an issue with all their laptops. Perhaps if you make your own ticket, we can link them together?

    Hi all,

    After 4 days of ownership I wanted to give my two cents on the Aero 15, so here a short review. I ended up buying in Germany, which implies I have a German qwertz keyboard, though I much prefer the US or UK layout. Shipping from the US or UK proofed too expensive though, so I bit the bullet and ordered online at heute-kaufen.de.

    Requirements for my new laptop were (and still are) that it is powerful (video editing, causal gaming) yet portable, and with a battery that lasts at least a good six hours under normal use (e.g. web browsing, office, etc). In theory the Aero 15 ticks all these boxes, but after following this forum and other threads I had my concerns. I can report now that, fortunately, they haven't become a reality for me (yet). Firstly, a short list with common issues mentioned in this forum that I checked for (I wont post all the images from tests I ran, but I'd happily share if there's interest):

    - Keyboard: no issues whatsoever, all combinations work (though when I press the left ctrl and shift, the right ones register as well, but I am fine with that). My laptop came with the FB08 Bios version, and even here the key combinations worked, have updated to FB09 since and still no issues.
    - Backlight bleeding: a very slight bleed on the top right, which I could barely notice even with a black background. So not an issue.
    - TB3 port: works as it should, but I believe this issue had been fixed with a Bios update a while ago.
    - GPU Temperature: the GPU maxed out at 78 degrees Celsius (all degrees in Celsius hereafter) after 6 hours of Witcher 3 on High settings, and also on 78 degrees after 3DMark stress test of 2 hours. So no issues there.
    - CPU Temperature: interestingly, my laptop came with an undervolt of -0.050mV as default, so the temperatures I got were already lower than I expected. I was always going to undervolt the CPU, so I didn't run any tests at normal voltage. The temperatures (with undervolt of 0.050 and 0.115) did not produce a noticeable difference in temperatures. The maximum temp it registered was 81 degrees under full load (XTU stress testing for 6 hours), average temps running low 70s and high 60s. Perhaps a good pasting job from factory.
    - Battery: no issues, I easily get 8 hours of work done at 50% brightness with wifi turned on and bluetooth turned off. I haven't tested battery life under stress yet, which I will still do. However, in theory I will always be plugged in for editing/gaming.
    - SSD: the read an write speed are okay, definitely within what can be expected for this model (Crucial MX300 M.2 525GB).

    Overall, I didn't encounter any of the regular issues reported here, and so far other (major) issues have not presented themselves yet. However, I also have a few concerns and things to nag about.

    - Fan noise: first things first, my old laptop is an Asus G750JX which weighs as much as a school bus. My reference point is this machine, and under normal load it ran absolutely silent, no fan noise whatsoever. I cannot say the same for the Aero 15, even as I am typing this the CPU fan is clearly audible. Now I cannot compare this to another Aero 15, so I am not sure if this is within expectations. The noise isn't intrusive, no annoying high pitch squeaky stuff going on, but I do hear it and I don't like it much. Unfortunately I cannot record the noise, my phone and laptop fail to register it and I do not have access to more high-end equipment. What have your experiences been in this regard?

    - Sluggish: again, my old laptop, and also my company laptop are reference points. When opening applications like MC Office, or just the file explorer, or battery settings by clicking on the icon in the right bottom of the screen, the time between clicking and the application opening are long (2-3 secs), much longer than my old laptop (with SATA II SSD) and even my work laptop (which doesn't even have an SSD..). I did not perform a clean install of Windows, but I did remove all bloat and cleaned the laptop. However, this didn't have any effect on the speeds I am witnessing. With the updated hardware, I expect this laptop to perform at least as good as my old one, and much better than the brick I get from my employer. However, it does not, and this alone would be enough for me to return the laptop. Perhaps I am spoiled (definitely impatient), but I want simple, light apps and programs to run in about a second after clicking, which both other laptops achieve effortlessly despite having far inferior hardware (both Windows 10). However, I am determined to find a fix, as I am certain this is a software issue and not hardware related. Thus far I have not been able to find a fix, so if any of you has a tip (or encountered the same) I am keen to hear!

    Screen: I am a little underwhelmed by the screen when gaming, it seems to miss sharpness. My old laptop also had a 60hz screen, so this cannot be the reason why. I have to do further digging.

    In all, a much longer review than I had expected. I really hope to fix the sluggish issue this week, any tips are much appreciated :).

    Cheers

    I prefer to wait for the automatic update. Microsoft states: "Windows 10 will notify you when the Fall Creators Update is available for your device. "

    However, I'm still waiting for Creators Update from April. It has not been automatically installed on my system. That's disappointing as new systems are supposed to get those updates automatically. Microsoft asserts that "the update is rolling out via auto-updates when your PC is ready". Obviously, the Aero 15 is not ready. I wonder why Microsoft decided that the update is not stable enough to be rolled-out on Aero 15 and therefore prevented the "auto-update" to happen.

    I believe sleep mode then, though it was acting more like it was in hibernate mode with its seeming deep sleep. If I recall, one of the status lights was pulsing on and off slowly, I take it to mean that was sleep.

    My laptop is still within my return window on Amazon.com. Is this an actual defect or can software fix this? If the former, I can just send it back to Amazon while I can.

    I got mine through windows update after manually checking for updates....
    Maybe try using the "Windows 10 upgrade assistant"? You'll have to download it from Microsoft.
    I did find a few bugs on my end, but I think it just requires Gigabyte to update their software (changing colour profiles take slightly longer now, and the windows gui is somehow waking up my GPU so my battery life is slightly less whenever I use aspects of windows 10).
    Otherwise, all works well.

    Does anyone know what size screws the SSD holders this laptop uses? The screw on my stock SSD is broken and the new ones I got with my extra SSD are too small to be screwed in.

    Thanks!

    Also, where would you put any new thermal pads? Under the heatsink, all I see is thermal paste (I expected to be able to replace thermal pads, but didn't have any).

    Thanks

    Regarding fan noise, if you go into smart manager and switch the cooling profile to quiet, the fan will turn off completely during normal use but will throttle when gaming, in which case, just switch to the gaming cooling profile. The screen is good, I've measured it using my Spyder 5 and everything checks out on an objective level. Perhaps you are missing sharpness because it is matte? I'm not sure about your previous laptop, but a glossy screen will always look sharper. You can try dropping the gamma under the windows display calibration tool, matte tends to sap some contrast so this should give it some more punch.

    Hi guys,

    I've owned mine for the past 2 months, and so far I haven't had too many annoying problems with it. What I did notice though is that even with -130 mV of undervolting, my cpu and gpu still hit mid 80s while gaming (PUBG, Overwatch). Does opening up the laptop to do thermal pasting void the warranty? Also, I've been having weird color issues; on Chrome or Spotify the dark colors seem very "patchy" (I don't know how to describe this...) So far my theory is that those apps clash with the smart manager color settings (the pantone thingy) but I'm not sure how to go about it to fix that issue. The link below will show you the same picture, one opened in Microsoft Edge and one opened in Google Chrome. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know!

    Chrome uses the color profile, Edge doesn't. So technically the view in Chrome and Safari is correct. You can deactivate the use of the color profile in settings, google it.

    So I tried disabling the color profile, but the problem still persists... Could you possibly walk me through? Also, the discolorization also happens on things like Spotify and Steam, not just Chrome.

    Finally "forced" Fall Creators Update on my AERO 15 by following the link provided in the "Update" section of Windows Settings.

    The update removed some icons from the desktop which I made reappear through Settings -> Personalize -> Themes -> Desktop icon settings.

    Further, the update removed the precision touchpad driver for the ELAN touchpad and reinstalled the original (bad) driver from ELAN. To reinstall the precision touchpad drivers, I downloaded the driver as described in this older post, but this time followed the steps described in this video tutorial:
    1. After downloading, run the *.exe to extract the driver to, e.g., C:\DRIVERS\WIN\UNAV
    2. Open Device Manager als Administrator
    Then
    -> Find "Mice and other pointing devices"
    -> Right click "Elan Input Device"
    -> Click "Update Driver"
    -> Click "Browse my computer"
    -> Click "Let me pick from a list"
    -> Click "Have disk"
    -> Click "Browse", go to the directory given above and select "ETD.inf"
    -> Click "Open"
    -> Click "OK"
    -> Select "ELAN Input Device For WDF"
    -> Click "Next"
    -> Acknowledge the warning
    -> Acknowledge reboot request.
    After rebooting, Windows Settings -> Touchpad should state that there's a precision touchpad installed.

    How do you feel about the battery life after the update?
    I can't seem to get to my previous 9 hours mark anymore (estimated jump between 4 and 8 hours).

    Does anyone else have a problem when they type and it comes out as 2-3 consecutive e's? It happens sometimes to other letters, but mainly for me its e. Would you know if its a hardware or software problem?

    I indeed knew I could control the fan in the smart manager, I usually leave it in its normal setting because the ambient noises mask the sound emissions from the laptop. I didn't have a glossy panel, perhaps it is just a matter of time of getting used to the new screen. After another week of ownership the laptop grew on me, though I still haven't found a fix for the (sometimes) sluggish performance.

    When I benchmark the laptop on battery vs being charged, it scores 6x more being charged. I set the laptop to performance mode, but it still drops everything after it stops being charged. Does anyone know a fix for this or have this same problem?

    Every Laptop in the world throttles on battery. The battery cannot provide enough power to power the laptop! It would be empty in 20 min under full load. You cannot game with full power on battery.

    A 940MX might not need throttling and in this case the CPU is throttled.

    Yeah laptops that do not pull more than 80 watts when under full load. But laptops with gaming hardware all throttle when being used on battery power. I twould be actually quite dangerous if you would discharge a batter by pulling 200~ watts directly out of it.

    Has anyone encountered problems with the webcam, or rather, the webcam software?

    The camera doesn't work, I encountered the problem for the first time today whilst using Skype, and I didn't have it when I used it last weekend. I tried reinstalling TriDef, also updated the amcap from the Gigabyte utility website, but the problem persists. Any quick fixes, or recommended different software (was looking to ditch TriDef anyway)?

    EDIT: after trying two programs, I start to believe the problem lies elsewhere. Both ManyCam and YouCam 7 do not give an image. Anyone know where the problem could be?

    As they are aware that their webcam is crappy and poorly positioned, they disable it by default in SmartManager \o/

    Hi All,

    Been considering thing laptop as my Asus N501JW.

    I have noticed that this laptop has keyboard combination, tb3 speed, and backlight bleed issue. I believe the first 2 issue can be solved via BIOS update.

    Have 2 question for aero 15 owner:
    - What is chassis material
    - What is Lid material?
    Because it seems like plastic material. CMIIW.

    Thanks and Warm Regards,

    William

    As far as I can tell, both the chassis and lid are made of metal. There are definitely plastic bits, like the hinge and the sides.

    TB3 speed was fixed with the beta BIOS update. BLB issues are a hit or miss. My unit has none (and was even an open box unit).

    The actual chassis is plastic, except for the lid which is made out of aluminum. The case chassis is just a plastic frame with alumninum sheets glued on.

    Hi everyone, I recently got an aero 15, and I need someone to help me clear out something about the charging. I live in Eu so I bought the half part of the charging cable to fit my ac power. While the laptop is shutted down and plugged, the charger itself is lighted in blue, but the laptop lights that should show the battery life are off. Since its the first charge I didn't want to boot the laptop yet. Although I did try for few seconds just to see that it worked properly. My question is: is it normal that the laptop battery lights are off while being plugged and shut down? Thanks in advance.

    Are you sure your battery isn't fully charged already? ;)

    So, for being clearer, when does the battery light trigger?

    Battery LED ON = Charging
    Battery LED OFF = Fully Charged (or Not Charging when not plugged in)
    The LED does not change color.

    When the laptop is turned off, you can also check the battery juice by holding the right button on the trackpad, the 5 leds are now indicator lights for the battery. From left to right, 0% to 100%

    Hey all,

    I just received my highly anticipated Aero 15 from Xotic PC, and the "S" key on my keyboard is defective. Mosst of the time the ss key doe not work at all. If I press and hold it, nothing happens where you would expect to see something like eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee but with s's. I'm able to get the "s" to appear by pressing it with higher than normal force mulitple times in the top right corner of the key. Then mosst of the time it does a double s keystroke. I spoke with both Xotic PC & Gigabyte and both ssaid it iss a hardware isssue and I have to return the laptop. I've insstalled the ssmart update and updated the bios ec to the latest available driver with no change in behavior. I'm aware of people having some issue initially with keyboard combination not working but they eem to work for me. My isue is with a single key. Has anyone else had this problem? If sso were you able to fix it or did you have to send back the whole machine?

    Thanks, btw thiss took an extraordinarily long time to type to get all the s's to appear.

    I have the same issues with mostly the e's and something other letters. I got mine from GenTechPC. I emailed them and Gigabyte, but GenTech never replied. Gigabyte said to email them and send it to them for checkup.

    Fn+F? If you meant Fn + F3/F4 for the screen brightness, you need smart manager to be running in order to use that functionality (if smart manager doesn't run, those functions don't work, only sound works afaik).
