Anyone know where I can get replacement screws for the bottom panel on the Aero 15? I lost one when adding more RAM recently.....

You could remove another screw, and go find it's twin screw brother, on one of those construction malls that have almost everything :)

Ehm, what do you guys think about the charging cycles on the Aero 15?
I've read so far contrary opinions and reviews about charging in general. Some state that it should be ideal to charge between 40% to 80%.
Others say that if you are a power user, you could also leave it charged the whole time, but it might be bad for the battery cause of the overheating. So which do you think might be a better solution in a long term period??

Thanks for clarifying it. The only thing that seems not working for me is the battery check when shut down.
Tried to hold for few seconds without success :(
    Thanks though :)

15X still not available on Newegg.ca. I'm more likely to go with the regular 15 anyways, so with less than two weeks to go, I'm waiting to see what Black Friday brings. Given how much the somewhat competing MSI GS series laptops have dropped lately, I am hopeful for a nice sale on this laptop too. Hopefully that also brings free shipping, as charging $12.99 shipping on such expensive items seems wrong.

Maybe you could get an open box Aero 15 and buy an external gaming box. The cost comes to around the same as a 15x.

Has anyone got nightlight issues after the latest windows update? I cant adjust my brightness at all and in the quick access menu on the right it just says nightlight in the brightness box but is grayed out and in the options the nightlight options are all grayed out too.

No open box Aero 15 units on Newegg.ca, unlike Newegg.com. Not in real need of a very powerful gpu, so the GTX 1060 inside is more than enough for me. Really just looking for a powerful and sleek 15 inch laptop with a long battery life, which the XPS 15 failed to delivery on some fronts such as thermal design, which was so poor it could not properly handle a GTX 1050.

Oh, I didn't notice you referred to newegg.ca. What's the cost of buying from the regular newegg and shipping to Canada? If battery life is of the upmost importance, I got better consistency with the Aero 14 (~10 hours with power savings with the Aero 14 vs ~7 hours on the Aero 15 after the new windows update). Only problem with that is that the 14 has a high pitched fan noise at load. Maybe you could get the 1050Ti version?

Does anyone else get horrible buzzing/white note/cracking when using headphones on their Gigabyte Aero 15? And if so...is there any way to fix it? I was planning on using this laptop for digital music/gaming...

Just a quick question, is the warranty seal over one of the bottom screws? I just want to check whether it's possible to add an ssd without voiding warranty.

Try reinstalling the drivers for integrated graphics card--that's what controls nightlight and brightness.

I'm not sure but I didn't care much and added a secondary SSD in the first day I received my AERO 15. If adding an additional SSD means that we are voiding the warranty then the extra NVMe slot is just a trap and it would mean that they were trying to cheat us all. i think that it would be a fraud :)

I just got an Aero 15 couple of days ago. Played around with it and realised that the screen has some sort of "bleed". However it will only happen if the computer boots up with screen brightness below 20%. It goes away if I set the brightness to above 20% and even if I go back down to 0% the "bleed" won't show anymore. Anyone else experiencing this issue as well?

I get this every once in a while. I think the change in brightness fixes that issue. It usually happens to me at wakeup at low brightness levels, and I think it's just the backlight turning on again after a while. Doing the adjustment "updates" the backlight so that it's more uniform imo.

    Hi,

I've bought a gigabyte aero 15 a week ago in France (Azerty keyboard) and unfortunately have both keyboard shortcut issue and screen bleed...(although this can be expected)

Besides, what really bothers me is that my keyboard doesn't lay flat on my desk. The right bottom corner is raised compared to the rest of the keyboard, especially if I open the screen as much as I can. Pressing on that corner makes the whole computer wobble.
Any thoughts ? Should I consider sending it for repair/replacement ?

Thanks in advance (sorry for my english)

Alright, I guess this happens to most if not all Aero 15.

I've got another issue with my keyboard backlighting, it seems like the backlight is not even across all the keys.

This is most obvious in the right shift key. It's significantly dimmer compared to the rest of the keys. Does this happen to other aero 15 too? If its not normal I'll get an exchange since its still within the 14 day refund period.

That's pretty common with RGB keyboards with such lighting. You get this when you set the colour to white, vs anything else. I used to have the same problem on my old MSI GS60 where setting the backlight to white would show some keys to have miscoloured/uneven light.

I got the same dimmed right shift key. But I dont think that is such a big deal to go through the return policy (considering all the other things are ok) usually the left shift key is more used than the right one, but then again that's just me... :)

Hey everyone, can somebody let me know whether the UEFI/BIOS menu on the Aero 15 or 15X includes an option to disable USB 3 ports (it may be labelled XHCI mode or something similar)? EDIT: By disable I mean force them to run in USB 2 mode only, not turn them off altogether.

It's normal. the AERO 15 has the worst screen you can find today, even if you compare it with much cheaper laptops, in fact it is worst than any screen I used in the last 20 years.

But don't worry, this is not the bigger problem. soon you'll notice the abusive banding on games and you'll buy an external screen and never use the laptop screen again. it is pure trash.

btw, if you decide to use only an external display you need to restart the computer after connecting it by an HDMI. in the first connection to an external monitor the laptop display will be ultra slow, but after restarting with the laptop already connected it will run smoothly. you need to do it every time you change the display but there's no need if you start it already connected.

this laptop is a huge mess.

My only issue with this laptop is the thermals under load. So many people here get better thermals than I do under load (GPU goes to 90C with LM repaste, same as stock thermal paste).

you probably got a bad screen too. just open any 16M colors game with a sky and watch it. you'll notice that AERO 15 screen can't display 16M colors, in fact we probably have all a 65536 colors display. the pantone calibration is a part of the scheme, they installed the worst screen since the mid 90's with a nice calibration to easily cheat the consumer.

I can say that for gaming, if you're interested in performance at all, you'll want an external for sure.

For instance going from gaming on a lower end Nixeus 144 24" monitor is a night and day difference.

The laptop monitor feels noticeably more sluggish and has poor contrast, I had to increase brightness by about 50% to make our players in shadows reliably.

it's hard to notice on capture, i saw many videos before buying it and i never noticed that the screens wasn't a 16M colors, also, i never imagined that there was still monitors being sold with less than 16M colors. the monitor calibration is great, the colors are very accurate, and it makes hard to notice how bad the monitor is. those who don't work with image probably will never notice, but for me (i'm a professional photographer) it ruined my job, i'll never be able to used the laptop display for some quick work (as i always did with my previous laptops) and it is truly awful for play.

i completely give up of this laptop for use as a laptop. i connected it to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse and i decided to abandon it as a desktop - the worst and most expensive desktop i ever used, but still better than trying to use this as a laptop.

if you want a laptop to use on the way, and use the built in display, do not buy this model, but if you need a laptop to always connect to an external display... well, it's small and practical to transport. just don't trust this laptop screen - all AERO 15 screens have bleed defects, severe banding problems, less than 1M colors and low light. the AERO 15 screen is not usable for image work or gaming.

maybe you got lucky. i read somewhere that the first models were shipped with some new Innolux WVA display, but in the last 3 to 4 months people have received the AERO 15 with the old and hideous Innolux N156HCA from 2015.

I was thinking in replace my display, but it doesn't seem easy to deassemble the screen frame. I'm going to wait for some tips online, but as soon as I find out how to remove safely this horrible screen from my AERO 15 I'll do it - in fact Gigabyte should be replacing all screens with bleed, banding and color limitations.

Has anyone else's laptop have a massive drop in battery life? When I first bought my aero 15, I was getting around 6 hours normally but now I'm only getting around 2 and a half, even on power saving mode. I appreciate any feedback you can offer!

The obvious Screen Bleed Issue shown jn the video is caused by the automatic backlight setting. Disable the automatic setting and it is gone.

You can see your panel specs with HWiNFO64:

Monitor Name: Chi Mei [Unknown Model: CMN15D7]
Monitor Name (Manuf): N156HCA-EA1 CMN N156HCA-EA1
    Serial Number: Unknown
Date Of Manufacture: Week: 37, Year: 2015
    Monitor Hardware ID: Monitor\CMN15D7

Never noticed that it's not 16M colors but I'm only using the internal display for office tasks and web surfing.
When I'm playing a game, I connect the laptop to the TV.

Unfortunately it's a lottery. In my experience, I haven't experienced anything that would hinder my experience with the keyboard. Some people have reported the update to the keyboard firmware fixed their issues, and some haven't been able to get their issues fixed regardless of their update.

looks like it is the same screen i got. anyway i found out that mine can display 16M colors at 1600x900, but at 1920x1080 I only get 65K color. this is too weird.

btw... I found out today that the microphones don't work on this laptop connected at the jack, I can only use the built in microphone. another problem to the huge list of problems of this horrible device :\

    Hi all,

Is there supposed to be a slight pink tinge when the "X-rite Pantone Color" mode is enabled (mostly apparent on white sections of the display)? I don't know too much about colour accuracy and that but I personally prefer having the pantone color mode off....

    Cheers,
    Danial

Yes, it's a little warmer than the default calibration. Personally, I think the warm tone at 6500K is accurate (which is pretty similar to the tone from the X-Rite calibration).
