If you removed all partitions, then the factory reset was deleted also.

I'm a 3D developer and I work with autodesk maya. My scenes have 6million polygons and it handles everything so this is a good laptop for 3D/VR/Game and video editing!

Some places list specs for the Aero 15 as having SPDIF output on the headphone jack, which is an increasingly common thing nowadays. SPDIF isn't mentioned in the manual or in the specs page on Gigabyte's site... But the manual is so anemic already, the lack of inclusion doesn't necessarily mean anything either way.

Can anyone confirm that the headphone out doubles as an optical output? I'd try myself, but I don't have any Mini Toslink cables/adapters.

Has anyone had trouble with the Bluetooth not detecting/using the mic on a bluetooth headset? It used to work before the anniversary update, but now it doesn't

I've been trying to hunt down a pervasive stutter problem where every 2 to 7 seconds, windows hiccups, pretty sure the Intel HD display driver is the issue, but that's neither here nor there. In the process of troubleshooting this, I found that there's an updated Intel BT driver available - 20.0.0.11. https://i.imgur.com/qhOLZbs.png

I've noticed my bluetooth game controller and bluetooth speaker connect much quicker now. Or maybe it's placebo? Either way, try the new driver.

Smart Update doesn't see it, so you'll have to run the Intel Driver Support Assistant from here: intel driver support assistant. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html

Just be sure to uninstall the Intel driver assistant after the fact, otherwise it sits in the system tray.

Check if the Headset is connected with the correct Bluetooth Profile. It has to be handsfree or HFP, not A2DP/Stereo.

Oh, that's what you were referring to.
Before the update I would get both stereo and handsfree, but now I only get stereo and I can't get handsfree to be enabled whatsoever.

In this case check the Bluetooth settings. The supported profiles are shown there and maybe you can enable the missing one.

Just got my aero today. The backlight is pretty bad on this screen, I'll post some pics up tomorrow.. Kinda of upset as otherwise it is working well (keyboard seems to be fine?) Though the trackpad is pretty gross.

edit: it seems to have a hard time waking from sleep as well.

My Aero 15 was modded by GentechPC. This was gonna be the first time I was gonna open the back up for myself, but I think they took out the grip on two of the center screws and I can remove it. Does any have any possible solutions?

    Quick question re: RAM...

My Aero came with one module of RAM, Kingston
CBD24D4S7D8MB-16. I'm currently looking into the cost of adding a second module, for a total of 32 GB.

I can't seem to find that exact model number for sale outside of a single, shady eBay seller. Does this look like the correct fit or are there specs I'm overlooking? https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-HX424S14IB-16/dp/B01BNJL8K2

So I got mine a few days ago and these are some of the things I want to share with this thread.
Did a clean install of Windows almost immediately and reinstalled some of the Gigabyte stuff, but only the necessary.

First of all I got all the usual things: good performance, good thermals, no severe backlight bleed, but also the keyboard issues (bottom row with shortcuts doing wonky things, right shift key has lower brightness)

1)The USB ports are REALLY stiff. I have a wireless mouse with one of those small USB connectors and I damaged my fingernails trying to get it out. Is this my unit or do you guys have that as well?

2)I noticed that Edge's ram usage keeps going up as well, after 15min with just one tab opened (on this forum) it reached 2200 mb and it was still going up.

3)Lastly, I get ~22k discharge rate on idle and I cant find the reason. Disabling hardware acceleration brings it down to ~12k but I use the dGPU to game so I need that enabled. Also the NVIDIA control panel says 'there are no applications running on this gpu' every time I check. According to the battery stats under 'Settings' Edge is to blame (maybe because of that ram issue?)

If anyone knows a solution to one of these things, please help me out...

1 - My USB ports were really stiff at the start as well. They'll wear in the more you use it.

2 - I really have no idea about this since I use Chrome. Try refreshing Windows through Microsoft's media creation tool (let's you keep your apps).

3 - Do you have any monitoring applications like MSI Afterburner? I had this same issue and it turned out Afterburner was keeping the GPU awake while it was running in the background. I switched to fraps for fps monitoring instead of Afterburner/Rivatuner.

    Hope this helps.

I did refresh windows with the media creation tool (I reinstalled windows completely) but I don't know if that made any difference since I only checked the discharge rate after reinstalling.
I have HWiNFO64 and CrystalDiskMark installed, but that's it. Can't think of anything else that would cause the GPU to stay on.

Try disabling/uninstalling HWinfo. I'm pretty sure it's not the reason, but it seems to be the most probable of the two.

    Hi all!
Got my Aero 15W 2 weeks ago. It's amazing (even if i'm suffering from "new toy syndrom" as
    agent_pires said but anyway ...).
I've exactly the same problem as explained here (freezing issue with right click on desktop and when launching some apps)... Does anyone have the same problem ?

Yes, I am experiencing this problem. Not so much a stutter on right click, but windows explorer hiccups every 2-7 seconds. Problem also occurs occasionally when animations happen, such as when a window's "X" button illuminates red when mousing over, or when a window is opened. Problem seems to get much worse when battery saver is on, and when Chrome is open.

I'll be waiting for the potential fix, now that Intel has confirmed the bug. Until then, I'll try that TrayPwrD3 utility mentioned here. I'll report back once I've determined whether it helps.

so since I didn't have too many things installed yet, I just reinstalled windows again and immediately tested the value (so with only HWiNFO installed) and it fluctuates between ~9k and ~11k now. I'm gonna install some programs one by one and test the discharge rate every time. I'll update if I can find the culprit :)

That's basically what Gigabyte's "EmptyProject11.exe" did (kept the dGPU on but idle). You can run it from the smart manager's directory.

Man, this is frustrating. Every day it's something else with this thing. My keyboard's Windows key stopped working. It works in the first 10 seconds after startup, then fails.

Can't find the cause. Tried a system restore, but the restore failed - blamed antivirus software, which I don't have installed.

SFC /scannow didn't pick anything up.

Is the Windows Key lock enabled in smart manager? The ten seconds where it works might be when smart manager has not yet started up.

Well don't I feel like an idiot. That was exactly it, I dunno how it got enabled in the first place. Since that option exists in Gigabyte Fusion, I (wrongly) assumed it wasn't an option in Smart Manager. That moment of frustration dulled my troubleshooting skills.

BUT, a moment of happiness because EmptyProject11.exe does indeed fix my stuttering issue. It does eat battery though... So I added it to my startup programs, and then added command line arguments to my power profile shortcuts. Now the Battery profile has taskkill /im EmptyProject11.exe /t and the other profiles have start "" "C:\Program Files\SmartManagerV3\EmptyProject11.exe"

Just got my new Aero 15 last week. Very happy with it. Slotted in a new 512gb Samsung 960 pro and cloned the existing drive to it and made the Samsung the primary drive. Super quick now. Was initially worried about screen bleed issues as read on various sites but haven't seen any problems yet.

The only minor disappointment is the fact it doesn't come supplied with a sleeve or case. Normally a premium cost notebook (nearly $3k here in Australia) comes with a sleeve but was shocked this one doesn't. Seems it is relatively the same dimensions as a Macbook Pro so will probably get a case / sleeve for one of those.

Would be interested to hear what cases / sleeves other here have gone for.

    Hey I have a question..
I can get either the xps 15 or the gigabyte aero 15 for a discounted price right now. 1450euro for the 512ssd /16gb ram xps model and 2000 euro for the aero 15 (originaly 2250euro).
With all the problems both of them have, which is more worth it for school stuff (computer science) and some gaming?

I had the issue with the right click. I removed the intel control panel from the context menu using this:
    https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...0005487/graphics-drivers/legacy-graphics.html
This stopped the lag on right click.

As for the battery icon lag, I noticed this only happens when the laptop is connected to an external screen. Let's see if intel fixes this via a driver update.

It's a feature so that you don't accidentally hit the windows key and interrupt a gaming session since the main keys used in gaming are located right around it. I don't face the issue with the windows key, but I do with the caps lock key :D.

Well, this laptop starts to make me crazy ...
I figure out that external monitor can be only managed by Nvidia GPU and not with the Intel one... Thus, quiet mode cannot be hold by the laptop when i'm using and external monitor (using Nvidia GPU make the laptop too hot). I tried different versions of Intel graphic driver but i didn't solve the problem. I only managed to display Gigabyte logo on my external monitor... usefull.
Like other people, i find that fan noise is too high-pitched (even if the average noise amplitude is good). My previous laptop (Asus ROG G551jm) was little bit louder but there was not this annoying little high frequency)...
Apart from that, my smart manager is now in chinese ... perfect... I tried to reinstall it but when i restart my computer it goes back to chinese.
And... yes ... gigabyte shortcut service regularly stops to work (usefull info: you can put a macro for switching from normal mode to quiet mode with the gigabyte soft).
Other thing, when my external monitor is plugged on my Aero 15, the indicator for the charging level (you know when the laptop is shut down and not in charging and you press bottom right of the track pad) doesn't work, why Gigabyte? I know this is very specific problem but it makes me believe that Gigabyte forgot to polish their 2k€ laptop.
Well, i'll try to return my machine and i will go back to Asus laptops. It's really bother me cause this machine has a HUGE potential.

If your monitor supports DP-Alt mode, you can connect it through the TB3 port and it would run off the CPU (Like mine), else the mDP and HDMI ports are connected to the dGPU, changing your intel drivers will not help at all since it's a hardware thing.

I fixed the smart manager language issue by uninstalling, then re-installing from gigabyte's website. It happened at random and I have no idea why it changed.

The trackpad battery level checker is a little bugged. I have to press it a couple times for the leds to actually light up. It happens with and without my external monitor.

I found that raising the laptop a little with a small stand really helps with thermals, so maybe get a stand when you're using it with an external monitor and quiet mode.

    Hi Everyone,

I've had my Aero 15 for less than a month and have only turned it on a handful of times. I got the blue screen today and while I was editing photos in Lightroom, the screen shut on and off (there was also some tones every time it happened) three time in a row. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I return it?

    Thanks.

Hi everyone, ordered my Aero 15X and am waiting for it to arrive. May just purchase an SSD to install in the extra M.2 slot but haven’t found any step by step instructions to taking the machine apart. What tools are required, where to plug in cables, etc (I’m switching from a Mac to PC so very new at this). I also want to install a clean copy of Windows (sans bloatware) then reinstall gigabytes keyboard and fan management software.

Is there a step by step for beginners somewhere? I searched this thread and didn’t find anything. Thanks for any help you can offer. Excited for my new laptop!

You'll need a Torx T6 to remove the screws on the backplate. The plate itself is pretty secure on the clasps so you'll have to nudge it off from one of the edges with a little force, then get the rest. I started off from the bottom right corner since it was already poking out a bit and I could slip in a prying tool. All the screws inside need a normal crosshead. For the SSD, you'll need a mounting screw that fits in the hole. The one I got with my extra SSD is too small and is currently held in place by the foam next to the battery and the thermal pads I put on the SSD.

I don't know what you mean by "where to plug in cables".

I wouldn't recommend doing a clean installation of windows then re-installing the required software, rather just uninstalling the software you don't want. I had troubles with a clean installation and went back to stock. Also, if you do plan to format and install windows again, make sure to back up the recovery partition since that's the only thing that would get you back to stock if something were to go wrong.

Haha, that was the ramblings of my half-asleep brain. I meant to ask whether when you purchase an SSD it comes with the screws and cables required to plug it into the SSD. I am coming over from Mac and I have upgraded my 2009 Mac with an SSD but it is a different kind (looks more like a traditional external HDD, not the 960 Evo for example). On Mac it was simple because all the laptops designs are the same and you can follow general instructions applicable to all builds. But I’m worried that since each PC manufacturer is different I’ll screw it up because of a missing step or something. I guess what I’m looking for is a step-by-step guide to installing an SSD into the M.2 slot but perhaps that doesn’t exist for the Aero 15X yet. Thanks!

Is anyone else encountering an issue with the Dolby Digital Plus app? I can turn on and off from the system tray icon, but trying to open the app results in the app quitting and removing the icon from the tray. Currently using the latest version of the HD audio driver listed in Smart Update.

You have to buy a M.2 SSD since there aren't any 2.5" bays in the laptop for a full sized one. The installation is pretty simple since all you have to do is pop the SSD in and screw it into place. The empty M.2 slot should be on the right of the battery. If you want to replace the stock SSD, you'll need to do extra stuff to clone the data so you don't lose your recovery partition and whatnot.

EDIT: After you follow my previous steps to open up the backplate.

I just got my second 15X in after the first had a messed up backlight on the shift key. Turns out this new one has it too. I saw someone talking about this earlier in this thread, but could find any followup or fix. I was thinking of taking the key off to check it out, but I'm not sure how to get it off or how to get it back on safely so I'm nervous. Anyone have any experience with this? Kinda bummed this happened twice in a row and I don't think I have the time to trade it in again. Here's a picture of the key: https://puu.sh/yKbOt/f828549b24.jpg

Also something curious about this one: it came with a different charger than the first. This is the one the new one came with https://puu.sh/yKaZ3/86492ae3ca.jpg. It's quite a bit larger and heavier than the first one, which was thin and had a USB port for charging. I assume the first was the one that came with most, based on what I've seen ( https://puu.sh/yKbGN/8a551e057b.jpg). The big difference other than size is Input and Output amps. The smaller one has 2.5A AC Input and 7.7A DC Output. The larger one has 2.9A AC Input and 10.3A DC Output. If this means the laptop would charge faster with a higher amp charger, I guess it's a fair trade off... Otherwise I kinda want to find a way to get the smaller charger instead, unless there's another reason for the larger one.

If anyone has experienced either of the oddities, any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

That's pretty weird. My guess for the SHIFT key backlighting would be that the light is placed slightly below the letters themselves, so the brightness is less. I only notice this when I use a white backlight.

That second charger you got is not Gigabyte's stock charger. Looks aftermarket to me, I'd ask them to send the original.

Yeah... sadly for me it's rather noticeable with all colors. Is the charger something I should bring up with the retailer or Gigabyte themselves?

Bring up the issue with the retailer, since I assume that's where you got the laptop from.
