I just added more ram yesterday, before, I had 2 sticks of 512, so that was 1024, I took one stick out and added a 1024 (one gig) stick of ram so together it's 1536. I mainly use my laptop for surfing the web, msn, games, xfire, music and some other things not all at once of course. when I start up I have a about 60-64 programs running in the background, when I game I close the things that processing, i nthe background with the task manager, and bring it down to mid to high 40s or programs that are running in the background. I only have about 3-4 actual programs, but I close them down when I game.

2 gb as below, at 667mhz
speed is good -
Initially had a paltry 256MB DDR RAM with my Acer Aspire, but I immediately upgraded it with 2x Crucial 1GB PC2700 DDR RAM to boost it to 2GB and runs things pretty smoothly in Windows XP Pro.
On average I get around 1300MB of free RAM during use, most of it gobbled by my over obssesiveness of opening crazy amounts of tabs in Firefox. At the moment I'm using 26 tabs opened simultaneously! I also use it for music listening, Photoshop, Office and E-mail's along with Firefox and the system rarely dips below the 1GB of free RAM mark. -
well, since i was last using a celeron desktop with 256 MB of RAM, i now have my own laptop with a Core 2 Duo and 1GB of RAM, im lookin to upgrade it to 1.5Gb...
i wish Dell made/ordered the Inspiron E1505 motherboard to be able to use 4GB...
as of writing, i am using Internet Explorer 7 with 3 Tabs open, Windows Live Messenger 8.1, Kaspersky Active Virus Shield, MS Outlook 2003, Windows Media Player 11, Sytle XP, Intel Pro/Set Wireless, Philips Device Manager, Windows Desktop Search, and the Language Bar (which i can just talk and Windows will type for me!!!), Windows Defender, Windows Malicious Software thingy...
i play Battlefield 2142, Halo, Star Craft, Counter Strike, CS: Source, Day of Defeat, DoD: Source, Half Life (basically all of Steam) -

-
512MB
Enough for stuffs I need. -
OK. There's one for greater than 1GB but less than 2GB, and another for greater than 2GB. How about if you do have 2GB?
-
- Started out with 512Gb DDR on my old HP ze5400 when it was new (3yrs ago). Upgraded it to 1Gb with 2x512Mb Kingston modules a year ago. Ran Photoshop and Illustrator with slight sluggishness. Barely moved Sim City 4. Choaked on GTA San Andreas.
Ran no more than 5 programs at a time.
- Have 2Gb DDR2 on new Acer Aspire. Will max it out when the time and finances come (to 4Gb). Runs all of the above programs like a dream.
Nowadays, it's anywhere between 3 and 6 programs at a time. -
512MBx2 533 MHz.
Upgrading soon to 1GBx2 667MHz. -

I'm looking at it on a Dell 6400, and I am pretty sure it said Hyper-Memory.
-
Well.. HyperMemory is a little indian-rope-trick that ATI plays on the customers.. It says "U have a 256MB video card with this and that. and now we offer you it with the superior HyperMemory technology.." sounds great.. right?
Well.. there is the trick.. the video card simply shares your onboard memory.. so it actually has say, 128MB dedicated.. And the rest it takes dynamically from the system memory whenever the apps demand.. so unless u r running a high demanding modeling utility or a game u have a 128MB card instead of 256MB..
The memory sharing takes place thru the hi speed PCI bus so u wont notice any major diff..
still, i would say, not as best as a fully dedicated 256MB..
but u will live.. -
