"Hi everyone,
I am trying to return a RTX 2080 FE on Nvidia online store and just want to share you guys a ridiculous story.
I submitted my return request on 26-Sep, and received a RMA number and return label on 12-Oct (16 days later)
Then I returned it on 15-Oct and it shows they have received my returned card on 17-Oct, so I thought now everything is fine and I could get my refund soon.
But no I am totally wrong, I have contacted them so many times but still no any refund for me.
Finally, today, they sent me an email and created another RMA number and return label to me and let me return the card back to them, but now I have no any cards can return to them.
So I guess this is the end of story, since there is no any help by contacting their customer service they just know to let me wait and cannot do anything, I am so tired now, will never purchase anything on Nvidia online store again."

Yeah, Max-Q was a replacement for the old M branded mobile cards (Best way to increase the prices is adding useless changes).
There is now a Max-Q version for every mobile Pascal GeForce GPU currently in the market
Fast-forward 18 months and the Max-Q branding has now trickled down to the rest of the Pascal series. While it began life as a GTX 1080 Max-Q, a wide range of budget-mainstream gaming laptops are now sporting Max-Q GPUs including the Dell Inspiron 15series and the HP Omen 15t. The GTX 1050 Max-Q and GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q are still uncommon, but they can be found on the HP EliteBook 1050 G1 and XPS 15 9570, respectively. The GeForce MX150 also has a Max-Q variant even if Nvidia refuses to acknowledge it. -
There's also the DDR4 version of the 1030 that performs like a MaxQ, not that Nvidia intended that.
-
"There is nothing left for Nvidia to unveil in terms of Max-Q and mobile GeForce Pascal. In other words, Nvidia's only logical direction at this point is to move forward in terms of performance with mobile Turing being a likely focus for CES 2019." -
The RTX 2080 vs. the GTX 1080 Ti in VR
By Mark Poppin - November 12, 2018
https://babeltechreviews.com/the-rtx-2080-vs-the-gtx-1080-ti-in-vr/3/
"We don’t give a lot of credence to synthetic benchmarks as they only are useful for the engines they are designed with and they have little to do with actual play in games. However, we used Unigine’s Superposition VR benchmark and VRMark’s Cyan Room benchmarks to see where our GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2080 supposedly rank in relation to each other.
If we go by these synthetic tests, the RTX 2080 should be a lot faster in VR than the GTX 1080 Ti. Let’s see if this holds true for our five VR test games.
....
Conclusion
We were totally surprised that although the synthetic benchmarks indicated that the RTX 2080 would be much faster than the GTX 1080 Ti, the five games that we tested indicated that both cards are currently in the same class with the older Pascal card slightly edging out the newer Turing card.
We suspect that Turing’s VR drivers may not yet be mature, and we will return to benching our two cards again with our full 25 VR game benchmark suite at a later date. We also will benchmark the Turing flagship, the RTX 2080 Ti, and also the RTX 2070, and we will compare them with AMD’s fastest cards, the RX Vega 64 liquid cooled edition and the Red Devil RX Vega 56 to see how they all fare in VR."

Crashboy96 1 point 25 minutes ago
"Except for any of the VR "features" that come with Turing to work, they have to be implemented by the developers. RTX is just another NVIDIA Hairworks — a cool technology that developers aren't implementing.
VRWorks isn't new or anything; NVIDIA's VRWorks was already aroundpreviously to Turing and practically no developers are integrating it. There are like a total of 4 VR games that use NVIDIA's VRWorks platform and they are mostly all propagated by NVIDIA.
These aren't really things that games can just "get an engine update" for, they have to be implemented during the development of the game.
There are very few game engines that have VRWorks available as well. Luckily there's some popular ones, but it generally isn't as easy as just flipping a switch."

NVIDIA Deploys GP104 GPU for GDDR5X version of GeForce 1060
Techpowerup.com | Tuesday, November 13th 2018 19:45
NVIDIA has just shown us one of the most ingenious ways of creating new custom, competitive SKUs for the midrange market without spending any additional amounts of money on R&D, wiring, or memory controller work: just reuse the chips that already have that work done. This is the case for NVIDIA's new GTX 1060 GDDR5X graphics card, which the company has "designed" to further fill in the gaps on its midrange offerings against a revamped Radeon RX 590.hmscott likes this. -
It's at best a wash in comparison with the current 1060's, so the Radeon RX 580 current edition should still keep it busy.Papusan likes this. -
GDDR5X can operate in GDDR5 mode which is probably what's happening here. They probably just had excess GDDR5X inventory to move.

GeForce GTX 1060 with GDDR5X memory confirmed to use GP104 GPU

https://videocardz.com/newz/geforce-gtx-1060-with-gddr5x-memory-confirmed-to-use-gp104-gpu
"How did NVIDIA manage to support GDDR5X memory with GTX 1060? Well, it’s simple, they didn’t. What they did, however, was to rebrand GTX 1080 with much fewer cores enabled to GTX 1060. In other words, NVIDIA found a way to sell chips with as few as half of all cores enabled in the GPU, under GTX 1060 brand.
Interestingly, even the SLI fingers remain, which raises a question, will they work?
The card in question is iGame GTX 1060 U-TOP V2, which features a triple-fan cooling solution, dual 8-pin power connectors, and 8+2 phase design."
AMD Radeon RX 590 final specs, pricing and performance
Published: 13th Nov 2018, 18:22 GMT
https://videocardz.com/79007/amd-radeon-rx-590-final-specs-pricing-and-performance
" AMD Radeon RX 590 to cost 279 USD
Let’s start with the most important piece of information. The official MSRP for Radeon RX 590 is 279 USD. This is a suggested price for nonexisting reference model (I mean there is a slide with a reference design, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be available). That said, the 279 USD price tag is likely just a starting point.
The price of RX 590 is therefore 40 USD higher than RX 480 at launch and 50 USD higher than RX 580 at launch (we are talking about 8GB models here).
It is important to note that Radeon RX 590 will be offered with a ‘blockbuster launch bundle’, with three ‘free’ titles included: Devil May Cry 5 (unreleased) The Division 2 and Resident Evil 2 (unreleased).
The presentation has many references to AMD ecosystem, especially FreeSync monitors. AMD is advertising their GPU+display solution as ~200 USD cheaper than competitions’.
RX 590: 12% better performance vs RX 580
Thanks to refined Polaris architecture now utilizing 12nm fabrication process, AMD has managed to squeeze 12% more performance and 15% higher clock speeds out of Polaris silicon. These are official figures straight from the slide.
The following tests were conducted with: Intel i7 7700K, 16GB DDR4 3000 MHz, AMD Driver 18.40, Windows 10. AMD also used GeForce 416.34 and 399.24 driver in various tests. The footnotes have more details, including 3DMark results, which I added below.
All tests were performed at a 1080p resolution with ‘maximum settings’.
Remember these are official tests performed by AMD employees. Independent reviews will be available on November 15th:

Battlefield 5 on the PC running in 4k with Ultra settings. (That is Ray Tracing Ultra too.)
There is a massive performance hit when turning on Ray Tracing. From a solid 60fps at 4k (with it off) to mid-20s (with it on.) I can't really tell the difference between the "fake" ray tracing and the hardware RTX tray tracing.
It clearly isn't worth playing the game at such low FPS. (and with no clear improvement in PQ.)
That said, SLI would help a ton. But, as of now, SLI isn't support in DX12 in BFV. (dx12 is required for RT.)
Zurvv 5 hours ago (edited)
"What is interesting is the frame time. The same scene with and without RT is 14.5ms vs 35.6ms (with RT). Please correct me, but i think you need under 17ms frame time to get 60fps. Is it just a horse power issue that is keeping the fps low? or is RT adding so much to the rendering pipe ( 35.6ms is crazy) that no matter the speed or the number of cuda cores, the RTX core is going to limit RT? shrug I never expected much from RT. For me DLSS (if that ever makes it into something) if the tech that i'm looking forward to."

Most people can't afford a $1300 GPU, but the $600 1080 Ti sold like hot cakes no doubt. $1300 for the average consumer is a lot of cash to a lot of people. Others have large discretionary incomes and will buy the best.
That said, man o man the 2080 Ti stands in a league of it's own. AMD's closest offering isn't even close it's pathetic. At one time AMD actually was competing with Nvidia, now they're just a pathetic shell of the high end GPU company they once were.

NVIDIA Confirms Issues Affecting Early Production Run of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Graphics Cards
Techpowerup.com | November 15th 2018
NVIDIA, via a blog post on its forums, has confirmed widespread reports of failures affecting their flagship RTX 2080 Ti graphics card. The issues, which resulted in "crashes, black screens, blue screen of death issues, artifacts and cards that fail to work entirely," started cropping up throughout tech forums, before reaching a critical mass that warranted coverage - just in case this was exactly what it seemed, ie, a production issue.
It seems this was just so, and that the problem was luckily limited to some early manufacturing issues or QA controls. As NVIDIA themselves put it, "Limited test escapes from early boards caused the issues some customers have experienced with RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition." The company then says that they stand ready to help customers who are experiencing problems - but nothing else was to be expected, really.
------------------------------
Nvidia acknowledges issues with GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FEGuru3d.com | 11/15/2018
A week or two ago we reported that there are some end-users out there that have their GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE break down. An investigative hunt on the web with many theories was the end result. NVIDIA now has made a small statement.
The company claims that the problems at hand are due to 'limited test escapes' which is indicating bad or defective parts on the PCB. Nvidia writes that the problems with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition are based on early product batches, denoting 'early boards'. That also indicates that the problem (whatever the cause is) was solved with the current batches.
They've found malfunctioning parts that had not been discovered by the QA teams it seems. That could be resistors or capacitors, but many believe its the GDDR6 memory reaching too high temperatures. Some troublesome end-users even have reported that downclocking the GDD6 memory made the problems go away. NVIDIA is not going into specifics and details as to why and how users run into problems.
Here's what NVIDIA wrote in their forums:
Limited test escapes from early boards caused the issues some customers have experienced with RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition. We stand ready to help any customers who are experiencing problems.

" The Medium setting currently toggles between High and Low", depending on the last higher or lower setting" which means that high FPS was likely due to really running RT at "Low".
" Currently there is no difference between Ultra / High / Medium, and only Low shows a difference".
It's not just Hardware Unboxed that have shown the 33%-75% FPS hit from running RT. The internet is full of people showing the same results.
And the consensus opinion of *everyone*? RTX is worthless.
Why do you even care about this?, all of your RTX GPU's failed, and you don't even have one right now, right? You didn't go out and waste your hard-earned money on a 3rd RTX GPU did you!!??
I'd imagine you being pretty pissed off right now at Nvidia's shenanigans instead of trying to defend Nvidia's constant deceptions and outright incompetence showing through in this RTX release.
I'd count yourself lucky at getting out before it really hits the fan...and if you were silly enough to buy a 3rd RTX GPU, return it for a full refund before it " bursts into flames".

I'm glad that NVidia have released ray tracing capable GPUs, it's moving the industry forwards. The cards are too expensive though, and there are teething problems as seen in this BF V game. It's possible that developers will get better at coding for ray tracing & therefore produce more efficient and better performing versions of ray tracing - even on the current RTX hardware (RTX 2070, RTX 2080, RTX 2080ti). Probably not the best GPU generation to buy though, the next one will be better.
-
Obviously I have an RTX 2080 Ti, how else would I have tested it? Do you really think I was just out the money? Nvidia themselves said early cards had an issue, they've fixed it (hopefully this card is) and most issues should be resolved. It also seems to have been a pretty limited batch as there are a lot of cards without issue. I guess it was my turn to get lucky. That said obviously EVGA did an advanced RMA for me and shipped me a new card within a few days. I got it the other day and installed it last night. I own the card, do you?
If the card fails, it will be replaced again and again by EVGA for my 5 year warranty..

"I was just doing some web browsing, wasn't even doing anything else at the time. Everything in its stock form, never even opened it before.
Suddenly, the PC just turned off itself. I was wondering what went wrong by looking into the side panel, then suddenly graphic card starts to shoot flame at the edge of PCB.
Scared the **** out of me since my kid was right around it when it shoots flame. Haven't tried to turn the PC back on to check if the rest is fine, since I don't have extra GPU with me."
What if he hadn't been there when the GPU went into RTX FLAME ON mode? What if that happens to your EVGA GPU?
Will EVGA replace your house too?

Also it's not like a GPU has never caught on fire lol. I had SLI 6800 GS GPUs go up in flames back in the day. A flaming GPU inside my case.

Wow, RTX GPU's are literally bursting into flames, and redirecting attention away from the RTX's dismal Ray-Tracing performance.

The worst part is going back to non ray tracing to test the difference. The graphical fidelity, lighting, shadows all look incredible. It's like once you've seen it, it really sucks to not be using it.

I'll see if I can find a nice image to demonstrate...see the Hardware Unboxed review at starting @ 04:30, here's a shot at 05:07:
Of course there are artifacts and falseness in both methods, but for the "cost" I prefer the "flame-free" non-RTX method.

Hardware Unboxed: "Battlefield V Ray Tracing Tested, So Is Nvidia RTX Worth It?"

"Hmm. I know Raytracing is SUPER intensive stuff, but sacrificing around 50-100 FPS on a 2080ti at 1080p..... I dunno man, that is just absurd."
Crintor 46 points 13 hours ago
"So I play BFV @ 1440p, without RTX I get 130-180 FPS. With RTX it's 50-80FPS, which to be fair is an amazing improvment from the 60fps at 1080p they had at reveal. But I don't know if I'm just so used to gaming at high FPS now or what but I literally could not play with RTX on, I had to turn it off after two rounds. It almost felt like it was way under 60 fps, or that there was a lot of input lag. It was uncomfortable to play. I could see Ray tracing being much better in RPGs or slower paced games, especially anything you would play with a controller."

"A lot of people said that the RTX acted jittery - which Dice said had "known issues that we are trying to fix". A lot of stuttering apparently, but agreed, it doesn't really work out too well in the FPS genre of a BF game."Last edited: Nov 15, 2018 -
Playing the game single player and having realistic shadows, reflections etc add immersion that no amount of faking can create. I showed the game runs just fine with the current recommended low setting from DICE, and it still looks phenomenal. They have stated they are continuing to work with Nvidia to improve the ray tracing experience.

I'll also take my GPU that can deliver 144fps in 1440p Ultra for mutiplayer non-RTX gaming. Something no other GPU comes close to.Last edited: Nov 15, 2018hmscott likes this. -
Nvidia has a Pascal problem, and its stock is plunging after earnings
Quarterly gaming sales lower than expected as Turing launches, Nvidia says it has too many Pascal-based cards in inventory
Published: Nov 15, 2018 6:23 p.m. ET
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/n...s-stock-is-plunging-after-earnings-2018-11-15
"“Gaming revenue was short of our expectations, and our fourth-quarter outlook is impacted by excess channel inventory of midrange Pascal products,” Nvidia Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress said in a statement. “We believe this is a near-term issue that will be corrected in one to two quarters, and remain confident in our competitive position and market opportunities.”
...
That wreaked havoc with Nvidia’s forecast for the fourth quarter as it seeks to work down that inventory. The company called for revenue of $2.65 billion to $2.75 billion, while analysts on average had expected revenue of $3.4 billion. While clearing out old inventory was not a complete surprise, the magnitude of it was."
Nvidia Tumbles on Soft Guidance: 5 Key Takeaways
The GPU maker missed quarterly estimates and issued a light January quarter sales outlook. It puts much of the blame on an inventory overhang caused by a collapse in demand from cryptocurrency miners.

That's nothing to brag about, or quote FPS to try to show "All is Well!!"...this is what you sound like to me:
To say this with a $1300+ RTX 2080ti, the top model Nvidia RTX engine, it's pathetic to see you try to justify the failure of it all.
And, BFV is only using RTX for reflections, not shadows - you are seeing things if you think shadows are RTX'ified in BFV. Wait for Tomb Raider.
At Low Effects settings, looking at the comparison's between Ultra and the sparseness of RTX Effects happening in Low, you'd have to be "seeing things" that aren't there to believe "All is Well".Last edited: Nov 16, 2018jclausius likes this. -

Here you go, 1440p, Ultra Settings, low DXR AS RECOMMENDED BY DICE in current patch/development. Still above 60fps, usually around 70fps, and I'm losing 4fps just because I'm recording with shadowplay.
At 1080p FPS would be even higher. This is also the hardest story in BFV to render, and Dice themselves have said they are investigating the issue. All other stories run better. Which is why Hardware Unboxed used that one scene in the game because its' the only one that runs like complete ass, yet they used it for their DXR "review" and represented it as overall performance which was completely misleading and false.

The best part is I had 2, TWO 2080 Tis go night night on me. NVIDIA has acknowledged the early batch defects and hopefully this has been corrected. I have no idea where my 3rd is from but I’m hoping it makes it. If not I have an EVGA card with a 5 year warranty and I’ll swap it out until the kinks are worked out. Unfortunately when there is zero competition at the high end you have no choices. We have AMD to thank for this. I can’t wait for Intel to enter the market in 2020 and hopefully shake things up a bit.hmscott likes this. -
I think AMD is happy with the low to mid level ground that they now occupy. I really don’t look for them to try and compete. Intel on the other hand...they are going to have a lot to prove especially after getting their butts handed to them on the cpu side by AMD.

Intel will support adaptive sync and support is coming to iGPUs before dGPU even shows up according to Intel. No need to lock it down behind a closed door. I hope they can bring it, I don't think their first attempt will be the one to own, but who knows maybe they'll surprise us all. They do have some competent GPU talent, they got Raja after all earlier this year.
