Yeah I meant an official exchange like u send in your P870DM-G and your reseller sends back an SLI model with the newer cards and you pay the difference as opposed to buying an entirely new laptop.
I'm pretty sure that won't happen but it would be awesome if it did. Sucks that Cleo/Sager don't really care about their customers any more.

Yeah they still screwed their customers....The resellers who now have pissed off customers through no fault of their own. It's not the resellers fault it's the manufacturers.

Hope that helps.
But Martin, if you want to upgrade your P870DM-G I can help you, can do anything from new motherboard and making it the newest model or just do the SLI, RAM, harddrives, Bios, Panels, you name it.
For any customs mods, just have to tell me what you have in mind. I've had a few projects here on the forums already.

All i really want is to turn my P870DMG into the P870DMG3 I.e. swap the dual 980m's for dual 1080's. Or even a single 1080.
-
With SLI ports.
Will they be under 1000USD each
Will your existing heatsink fit
Will they be enough to cool it properly
It would work out that similar in cost to sell your DMG as is and buy a DM3 it's not worth dealing with all the hassle and risk at each of the above steps.
A single 1080 makes more sense since two 980M's offset most of the cost. But there's still the heatsink. I think it'd be OK but would be at the limit, no benching feats. I was watching my master card (1326 core 2650 mem) draw 130W-140W tonight in a non-SLI gameand liquid metal on the die plus max fans kept it at 73C
Before I redid the pads a couple months ago I did a thoroughly ridiculous DSR test - 8K downscaled to 4K - saw a reported 180W-200W draw on both cards (606W from the wall!) Now something cut out after only a few mins, probably the VRMs up the back with the dry flaky 4mm thick pads but there was no thermal runaway going on in the core I think it would have settled on mid-high 80s. Liquid metal direct on both GPU dies. -

Hey if the cost is the same/similar I'm more than down with a 1:1 exchange of my system for one of the newer models with a single 1080. I was responding to woodzstack's comments that he does upgrades and swaps of systems.

Well for 2x 980m's when I look on line prices seem to be 1000$ for 2. Ish. 1 1080 must be cheaper than that?

I know. Which is why I was referring to a 1:1 swap of the system (part exchange if you will) and then people paying the difference. So much easier than having to sell a system then re-buy the new one. Especially if the re-sellers offered it as an option, pending inspection of the older system. Never-mind its clearly not going to happen, but I know I won't be buying a Clevo laptop again.

So where are people picking up the Pascal series GPU's? I have a Dell 7710 that I would like to drop a 1070 into.

Taobao, or Ebay if you are lucky. At least one user Striker bought a Zotac Magnus en1070 for the fully compliant mxm3b 1070 card inside which worked in his alienware with the msi vBios. He was able to get Zotac to give him another card and is selling the whole Zotac Magnus en1070 for $900.

Swap system - The price will probably be the used value (not new value) of your current laptop off of the cost of a new system.
Upgrading - Most companies that upgrade your system cost the entire new unit, but they may end up keeping your old parts and give you a small discount.
If upgrading, tell him what you want to upgrade. The GPU, the RAM, the Motherboard (and thus everything else). -

All I wanna do is have the same specs laptop as I have now but with a 1080 instead of my dual 980m's (hopefully with chassis space for another 1080 at a later date)
I understand you cannot just drop a 1080 or 2 into the P870DMG-1 but that is the end result I'm looking for laptop with the same specs as my current one (using all the compatible parts from my current one) -
InOrderToSignIn Notebook Consultant
Unfortunately, the 1080 is not compatible with the DMG1. You would have to replace the motherboard as well AFAIK. Therefore, you'd have to purchase a laptop's MB, and the 1080 card. Which would get quite expensive I imagine. The RAM and everything else would be compatible I imagine, though.
You'd be much better selling your laptop used, and then purchasing a new computer.
You can, however, put a desktop 980 in the DMG1.hmscott likes this. -

If two 980ms are good enough for your needs now, don't even bother at the moment. Newer and better will always be just around the corner (as it is now, as it will always be)... just purchase when you need something.ChanceJackson, bennyg and clevo-extreme like this. -
The prices are INSANE on ebay ! 800euros the 1070, come on !

Well, they should be cheaper since it's not the MXM standard, therefore, usable only on selected clevo laptops

We combine it all into a limited warranty, for now. Might change in the future.
However, I've had thousands of questions about workstation cards over the years, yet not a single sale of them. Workstation cards would have different warranty though, as opposed to the mainstream gaming/consumer cards.
Usually ranging from 2-5 years.Last edited: Apr 27, 2017 -
