Gecube RX480(M) MXM into various Clevos during testing - boots but beep/auto shutdown due to EC incompatibility
Gecube 1070 MXM - works *but* recalled May17 due to firmware/power regulation/blowup issue
Clevo 1080 (iirc?) into P870DM - failed only because their aux connector wiring was wrong (carefully looking at specs would have maybe prevented the kaboom)

I'm having trouble with my custom heatsink, the solder I was using formed some rather weak and brittle bonds so I have to wait for a new tube of a stronger solder to come in. Other than cooling problems it does works well (until it just hits 90 and throttles badly)

Things that work well:
-Rendering games on the laptop screen using Optimus
-Rendering games on external displays (including VGA thanks to Optimus)
-Oculus Rift when using a DP to HDMI adapter


Cooling is a work in progress sigh

Yes actually, SoundOfLenses has a channel he no longer updates that has different HPs and at least 1 dell showing teardowns and even MXM upgrades.

But in P377SM-A this GPU works (with 1080p screen), and I have information about P170SM-A with GTX 1070 (I asked about screenshots).

Clevo P370EM with 2x MSI 1070 in SLI works.

Other than cutting the frame to fit the odd shaped cards and me having to work around not having an internal display (no LVDS out with Pascal) - it was almost too easy.

Temps aren't as atricious as might be expected with the stock heatsinks designed for 75W GPUs from 2012... ~79C/~86C on age old AS5.

so until I get eDP panel+cable there is no internal display. External is enough for now, its not my main computer just sitting in the corner mining crypto warming my feet (winter here in Melbourne)

hey i was able to get a m6100 inside of a dell precision m7710 with max temp of 80c, and using the internal 4k display. But one issue is that it reads HD 8950 from the drivers (which it wont install dell m6100 drivers, says drivers up to date, even using microsoft basic vga driver) and bios reads m5100 but it performs on par as a m6100 but clocks @1075/1375

 

No... I don't have M6700 yet. I have M6600 which I think won't work with P3000 or P5000. Can M6700 use full potential of P5000 card? I wonder if a laptop from 2012 can make full use of P5000...
I like MSI P3000 laptops but they're way too over priced. You have to pay $2500+ to get one...

It might require some modifications to the chassis because of the tab on one side , also on the other side it's a bit wider than standard mxm 3.0b.

I'm sure both 980 and 1070 (those MSI ones) should work as the 1060 works, they don't require extra power.

Just need to find a way to get them to fit and get the heatsink to cool them.

 

the MSI GTX 980 might not work on different models due to BIOS or VBIOS problem,
Clevo GTX 980 didnt work on 157,177sma, as well as the ZM series.

Clevo GTX 980 did work without power supply in DM series (P750DM, P770DM) . you just needed to flash P775DM BIOS.
Vaguely remember seeing someone successfully put GTX 980 on P570WM as well.
