maybe someday I have to borrow a 7820HK system to push even higher than 1050cb (2nd place, was 1st)

While we're at it, report the submission you linked for missing memory tab screenshot. That's required for validation on hwbot.

boi submit that WR on hwbot RIGHT NOW
make sure you're on team premamod
the 4.8ghz 1050cb was on a very early 7820HK/1080 alienware turdbook, no XMP support so I couldn't run the memory at 3000
I don't have the machine anymore sadly -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Can you teach me how to submit that on hwbot? How exactly do I do that?
I already downclocked it cuz this voltage isn't safe.
X49 run just now. I can't do repeated runs. The laptop just shuts off. Because I dont have the unlocked EC. There are amp limits. Once you reach a certain amps, the EC shuts the laptop off at a certain temperature. Once you exceed that amp limit, the 'shutoff temp' point drops SHARPLY downwards!!!!
new record @Papusan

the rule is here
http://hwbot.org/news/9946_application_94_rules/
it doesn't necessarily have to show the maximum clock iirc -
I'm sure you know whom posted the results
Btw... One more but from Alienware Camp. 44x

Yeah if Falkentyne submits his results he will have the new high scores for the 7820HK easily. I submitted mine.

That's not an argument lol. Just because losing sucks doesn't automaticly make it logical to claim something completely and utterly false. Nobody expects you do beat Oced Desktop hardware, as you already pointed out why, it's impossible. It's like saying someones car is faster because he can make the wheels spin faster and get a faster theoreitcal speed when strapping it up and doing some very specific things to it. But when doing a race it would lose 10/10 times.
Nobody says anything about clevo not having best performance, the main arguement is, if it's worth the trouble and money. Which most people on this planet would answer with "Hell no".
Well that's because of the creators. Honestly the setting "ultra" is BS for most modern games. The games look almost identical to medium settings, it's a bad joke. You could literally record medium and ultra settings, put them side by side, and nobody could tell unless they look really really closely. it's just to make people want to play on ultra and pay more money. -
I've taken that one step further. Removed the air-blocking metal mesh as well.
OK, got it downloaded and reinstalled again, so here is what you asked for using your saved game file. I still could not fast travel to Novigrad, but everything is maxed out. Will have to be good enough. Anyone that wants to compare can bench the same area. I think the FPS and temps are actually better with everything maxed out for some strange reason. Maybe it's just a buggy game.

Fast traveling to novigrad should be possible using a signpost though. http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Fast_travel -
I will upload one. OK, I will look at that link later. Thanks.
You keep saying that, Danishblunt, but it is not impossible. I've done it. Many times. So have others. Check the leaderboards and ranking at HWBOT and Overclock.net leader boards. Most of this ranking was achieved using laptops against desktops. It is not just Clevo laptops. It started with Alienware, back in the day when they still made respectable products. Their older laptops (pre-Haswell) were kicking the teeth out of Clevos. Then they started emasculating them beyond repair. Laptops with desktop and mobile Extreme CPUs have never been able to beat desktops using LN2 and DICE pots, but they've done a great job of holding their own, beating and matching desktops with air and liquid cooling and the same or similar CPUs and GPUs. Yes, you are limited how far you can go with available voltage and inferior laptop cooling, but the desktops do not really pull ahead using similar cooling and similar hardware when running the same or similar clock speeds. BGA performs similar to LGA if you push it hard enough, but BGA quality and functional limitations are much lower. 7700K vs 7700K and 1080 vs 1080, the P870 trades blows and goes toe-to-toe in almost every measurement until you introduce extreme cooling and go above 5.2GHz. Then is when a desktop opens a can of whoop-ass on a laptop. But, you won't find any BGA garbage with respectable ranking against the P870 or desktops, and you won't find laptops with desktop CPUs and mobile Extreme CPUs using stock firmware at the top of the leaderboard, other than maybe a few rare and isolated examples of a good day when everything worked better than usual. I am not saying Clevo laptops are better than desktops. What I am saying is, they are the only laptops with the potential to match desktop performance. You do not make it into the league top 20 with broken and malfunctioning hardware. If you tell me a Clevo sucks out of the box, I will agree with you, but I don't use my computers stock (desktop or laptop). I'd even agree that, except for a modded P870, most Clevos are junk that are made wrong... just like all the other broken junk they compete with. Enthusiasts fix things. That's what we do, because we like it. We are the only reason there is some degree of validity to the whole DTR as a POC.

Bro, he is obviously not getting the points that you and @Papusan have made. He doesn't appear to be an OC'er and likely a BGA buyer that feels the need to defend his purchase. Up to two years ago when I was primarily a DT OC'er, I would have argued the same until I purchased your AK. That machine opened my eyes to the possibilities of a "notebook" going head to head with DT hardware.
He chooses to ignore your benchmarks even though they've bested 95% of similar OC'ed DT configurations. The only way to beat some of your scores are to watercool the CPU and GPU. I'd love to see his OC'ing skills though....Ashtrix, ole!!!, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

Here are a few photos... You have to use tin snips or metal shears to cut the speaker grille off the rest of the mesh. That was kind of a pain in the butt, but otherwise it was really easy. I reattached the speaker grilles on the bottom side with black RTV silicon and clamped them in place with c-clamps while the silicon dried.

I suppose it could be. It makes about a 10°C improvement in temps though. Especially sitting on my modded U3 cooler... big improvement. I think that is a fair trade. I don't use the laptop upside down much, so there is not much chance something is going to get in there. You definitely would not want to put it in a backpack or briefcase with a bunch of loose screws or coins flopping around, because (aside from them scratching up the finish) those could end up inside of the chassis and short something out. That metal mesh blocks a lot of air flow. More than I realized.
-
-
My old Turdbook (Dell XPS) had similar mesh. Removing it gave a huge increase in airflow and stopped the POS overheating. It does mean you get more dust in the fan blades and heatsinks, but that is a worthwhile trade-off for a 10 degree reduction in temps. If you are worried about anything getting in you can use some aluminium foil to cover the bottom while its in your backpack/briefcase.Mr. Fox likes this.

Can be fixed... Just put it on a mod U3 cooler with free homemade fanfilter from mama/wife. Work wonders, bruh. Flush in a lot clean air from the bottom

Yes, it all makes sense. Punching the holes in the bottom cover of the MSI 16L13 to eliminate the issue with the fans being choked off and suffocating the inside of the laptop in its own heat was an equally great idea. I don't know what the people that design these things are thinking. Oh... wait... they aren't thinking. Better to clean up the dust when necessary than live with the extra heat.Ashtrix, Vistar Shook, Donald@Paladin44 and 2 others like this.

BIOS mod. The third one was the charm. First two only had a black screen until we found the right EDID. Had to blind flash it since everything went dark. (Could not get anything on an external monitor with HDMI or eDP for some reason.)KY_BULLET likes this.

I think it used to on the P570WM and the P750ZM. But, yeah... pretty stupid that it does not on the newer machines.
When the P570WM got the EDID torn up like the Alienwares did, all I had to do was use HDMI out and flash the EDID with Linux.
Alienware used to be even worse. If you had a corrupted EDID or did not have the internal screen connected, it would fail to POST with 8 beeps. If they have finally corrected that nonsense, it was long overdue. That was the most idiotic abortion I have ever seen. -

Awesome stuff. I trust we will figure out why the same mod is not working on the P870DM-G.
I think Brother @Falkentyne will like this. I found a good alternative to foam dams for liquid metal. I put Kapton tape around the GPU die as I normally do. I then applied a thin bead of RTV silicon on top of the tape. On top of the bead of silicon I layed strips of Scotch tape to keep the silicon from gluing the heat sink in place. I put the sticky side toward the silicon. I put it together wet so it would squish down to the correct height. After a couple of weeks, I took the heat sink off and peeled off the Scotch tape and voilà! A reusable custom-fit silicon gasket. This never interfered with good temps. The examples of nice GPU temps shown here in this thread were with this silicon gasket.
