that. is. crazy.
and sadly, how the 10xx series shouldve been in the first place... at least the zotac amp extreme is power unlocked out of the box, but unsure if any other cards are like that.

EVGA Kingpins are probably the best and most unlocked. But, most require mods to be awesome. Still tinkering with this. There are a lot more mods that can be done. I just did one. Soldering resistors on top of capacitors to "trick" the vBIOS into thinking the power draw is 75% lower than what it actually is. I pulled over 800W (total system) on this Fire Strike run. It was between 500 and 600W max before the mod, so the GPU is pulling about 200W more than before. (A single Kingpin 1080 Ti at max OC draws up to 1200W all by itself, LOL.) It also has a different vBIOS with unlocked voltage to 1.200V. My stock vBIOS only allows 1.025V with an occassional blip to 1.031V. I got this link from @bloodhawk and did the mod in step #3 for Power Limit Overrides. https://xdevs.com/guide/pascal_oc/#turbob
It was kind of a pain in the butt because they are so stinking tiny. I got the resistors from Digi-Key.

Its a good first step.
Let us know when its in a laptop....

Wow, these are some crazy mods, I can see many a sleepless night dedicated to this task! + rep to you and all your contributors you mentioned in this post, it's great to see such an ambitious project come together through people working together. It's sad that we have to go to these extremes to get upgrades to work in laptops - manufacturers have gone out of their way to make non-proprietry versions of MXM cards that are not compatible to the normal standards, perhaps in an effort to prevent people upgrading their systems. The last truly upgradeable notebook was the might Alienware M15x if I remember rightly - that ancient thing just kept accepting GPU upgrades all the way up to 980M, and this was a laptop from about 2009! -
I have done it on the Clevo MXm 1080's. And it should not even be tried unless the system is going to be on top of an AC.
This is where they go on the MXM GPU's -

Bloody hell, that's pretty cool to be able to get the core up to 2200Mhz! Are you using the full 1.2V? How much performance increase are you seeing, temperatures ok, no dips below 2200Mhz?Mr. Fox likes this. -
om freaking g, 1200W i i... i'm missing words right now, i somehow want to see the efficiency curve (not that it matters in that case
), well done

It is not 100% stable above 2100 because the vBIOS is not for this GPU and I probably need to do other mods along with this. I posted a nice Fire Strike score in the desktop thread with the core overclocked more than 2100. Also finally broke 11K on Time Spy.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ers-welcome-too.810490/page-205#post-10708240
Using higher voltage actually tends to lower the score because of the retarded NVIDIA Flacon filth. My next and future cards will likely be only Kingpin GPUs. I am kind of getting sick and tired of everything needing to be modded to not be a wimpy piece of trash.Last edited: Apr 8, 2018 -

Right, I understand, experimentation & work in progress! -
youre right, the amp extreme can go up to 320-330W so at least its got around +30% power target over other cards at 250W...

Yeap.. BUT 99% cards other than the FE's can easily do 300W-330W . FE's usually top out around 300W. EVGA's normally around 310W. If i remember correctly the Amp Extreme lets you do around 350W, where as the other AIB's tap out at 330W.
Like this EVGA can do 358W - https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/195601/evga-gtx1080ti-11264-170905
A lot of EVGA's with dual BIOS's let the power limit go to 120% on primary bios and 130% on secondary.
@Mr. Fox I was thinking about something, and realized that even using the stock vBIOS you should be able to lock your card to 1.093V. You will need to setup the VF curve for that and the temps will need to be under 30C (might be 45C , i dont remember correctly).
Similarly you can have the card clock down using that VF curve as well. -
It does not seem to work at all with the stock vBIOS. Maybe Brother @Prema can find the code to unlock the voltage on it by comparing the Strix XOC vBIOS to the SC2 vBIOS. The XOC vBIOS keeps corrupting files on W7 and I have to reinstall it from my Macrium Image.
-
It does not work at all with the stock vBIOS. Voltage cannot be locked above 1.025V using the SC2 vBIOS. The graph goes to 1.200V, but any value above 1.025V is ignored. That is at 29°C idle temps.
-
That is very very odd. These were on my FE card using the stock vBIOS -
https://imgur.com/a/QkAx1
And i could easily lock to 1.093V even at stock, with or without the shunt mod. (These are with the shun mod)
If the FE can do, then the SC2 can most definitely do it as well.
I have a feeling your VF curve needs a bit of per clock step tweaking.
Also, modding other vBIOS's using the XOC will be fruitless, since its the signature that is the problematic factor when i comes to desktop GPU vBIOS's, unlike our Clevo MXM's which dont have that stringent of a signature check and get by with an integrity check. (Prema will know more about this, than i do)
Just threw in the other 1080Ti which no power/volt mods on it, only running the normal STRIX 1080Ti vBIOS (non XOC) and automatically jumps to 1.075v without any custom VF curve, just the simple sliders pushed forward -

Amazing job Mr Fox getting the 1080 GTx working in that P870DM-G. Do you think the mod applies also on the slave MXM connector to be able to SLI eventually?
-
No. The slots on the first gen P870DM are too close together to fit two of the larger clevo pascal MXM boards.sicily428 and Vistar Shook like this.

Looks like another home run for Team PremaMod! More to follow. There's a little more tweaking left to do.

Thanks, bro.
A few more
@Prema BIOS tweakings are needed. Might be a week or so until it's ready to roll. This is the weaker 8700K that came out of my desktop, so probably won't do 5.4GHz (was 5.2GHz-5.3GHz in the desktop). But, it works! Hallelujah!

How can we get our hands on the bios?
Sent from my SM-G965W using TapatalkMr. Fox likes this. -

It's not finished yet and it's a POC at this point. Ultimately, that will be up to the firmware modding genius ( @Prema) and it requires modding at the mobo and CPU socket level to work. So, the BIOS mod alone won't do anything for anyone that could otherwise have it.
-
Is it similar to the 8700k mods on older generation laptops?

I'm not sure.

You will be making a thread for it correct? With steps, etc?

On another note, I am booting the memory at 3000 CL15 now. I couldn't get it to post with more than 2800 CL15 before.

Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
HOW IN SWEET JESUS MOTHER'S NAME DID YOU MANAGE THAT??
My god that's a BETTER overclock than the desktop version! -
No, my desktop 8700K is clocked 24/7 at 5.4GHz and easily benchable at 5.5GHz. This one did 5.2GHz with no sweat in the desktop. We will find out how high we can go in the P870DM-G when the BIOS mod is finished. Still a work in progress at the moment.
That will also be something to consider. Perhaps. Depends on how much can be disclosed from those who played a part in it. I don't want me or those other fine individuals to end up on an Intel or Clevo hit list or something tragic like that. -
You can't post this public because it's against the intel TOS.
If I were you I would take this conversation private and delete the posts so the shekel monsters can't get to you.

Glad to have a Clevo P870DM-G right now
Oh and thanks to @woodzstack for the GTX 1060
right now I have an i3-6100 plan on modding the bios to run a i5-8600 but nice to see you are running a full fledged i7-8700k how does it clock? -
This is the first BIOS revision and there are some additional things to address before I begin testing performance. Should be able to uncork it by next weekend, maybe sooner.

oh this is niiiiice with the 8700K
VERY curious to know whats necessary to make it work properly

@Mr. Fox You got the 8700K to work (amazing job bro). Question is are you ready for the "faster" version of the 8700K and 8c chip coming in the near future? AMD has ignited the fires. Unfortunately, Intel is going to get a lot of hate come this Fall.
This post is based on current market speculation and rumor. -
@Mr. Fox don't just hope owners of the Phoenix to do this mod they should do it.
I know the most difficult thing is to bypass the electrical modfication successfully but there only 1 thing this communty needs it's tutorial videos for such hard work like your POWER CABLE MOD & @Khenglish MXM CIRCUIT MOD these need videos and of cours your whole journey with this wonderful mod for the P870DM need to be documented in video

Wait a sec! How far along is the 8700K upgrade from being public? I might need to get @Prema to update my BIOS again if it's near complete!
Provided that it doesn't override the use of 6700K but just adds the 8700K then that would be great.
@Mr. Fox do you still have to install modded drivers for the 1080?
