    Oh man -160mv undervolt. -165mv caused sc2 to reboot my machine when I alt tab.

    Just do -150mv. Since -165mv is unstable there's no need to push the limits. Most likely -160mv is unstable too but not unstable enough to reboot the PC. And -150mv is a nice even number.

    Exactly at 47%, constantly? not even 48% or 46%? Can you try monitoring your battery Voltage?

    You should read about how Lithium Ion Batteries workl though I doubt it would help you. A GTX 1060 + HQ Proc should not go over 150 Watts. Assuming that your battery is 70W that's approximately 2C discharge rate, maximum 3C. I think there would be a manufacturing defect with your battery.

    A fully charged Lithium Ion cell has a voltage of ~4.2v. So if your battery pack is 3 or 6 cells, it would be 4.2v times 3 =12.6v when fully charged. if it is 4 or 8 cells it would be 16.8v

    At 46% the each cell should be 3.7-3.8V. So 3 cell batteyr pack is 11.1-11.4v and 4 cell battery pack is 14.8-15.2v

    Of course that is at resting voltage, i.e. with no load attached to it. With about a 2C discharge rate, I'd expect voltages to drop to about 3.5 volts per cell at load.

    It would be nice if you could tell us the battery model number

    Hello all, and special thanks Unclewebb for this amazing soft I use for a long time.

    I just switched to a netbook running a apollo lake n3450 (that is a chuwi lapbook 14.1 really nice cheap netbook apple lookin') and it would be really awesone if you can do something for me in the futur, I mean, make the cpu supported.

    Thanks you very much and keep the good work, alreday kindly appreciated on various configs of mine and friends.

    BTY-L78. At 47% complete shut off like pulling the plug. I could not turn laptop the laptop on until I plugged the AC cable. Once the laptop started, it would be at 47%.

    I will try to add Apollo Lake support to ThrottleStop in the future. It is summer time where I live. No time to sit inside a hot house programming a computer.

    That is some of the best advice ever posted in this forum. :vbthumbsup:
    5 mV or 10 mV, one way or the other, is not going to make a huge difference. Best to error on the side of stability.

    @Che0063 - So far I have been avoiding the Creators Update. No interest at the moment to work through Microsoft's latest round of bugs, I mean new features. Ditching the power profiles is not going to make music developers very happy. If Microsoft's master plan is to force Speed Shift onto everyone, people can use ThrottleStop, set the Energy Performance Preference (EPP) to 0 and hopefully reduce latency that way.

    Really?

    Maybe I got it mixed up, since I've been dualbooting with 2 versions of windows, and maybe that is what happened on an insider update.

    And one thing to ask, it has come to my understanding that CPU power/voltage/transistor whatever resistance increases throughout the lifetime of a chip. I'm currently sitting on a -80mV undervolt. Let's assume that at the moment that is pushing against the limit. Does that mean that in a few years I will have to steadily increase the voltage to -70, -60, -50mV? I'm curious, since often a rise in resistance requires more voltage to "push" the current

    Hey guys.
    I'm new to undervolting/overclocking so i could really use some help. I just got my laptop (MSI GS63 skylake) and did a clean install of windows. I downloaded all the latest drivers and updated Bios + EC firmware.

    Is aida64 good enough to stress test? I've heard prime95 is too harsh on modern quadcore processors. I don't have any intensive games to test the cpu with currently so i'm just using aida64. How long (ideally) do i have to stably run the test for before i can undervolt some more? Is 4 hours good enough?

    I only use AIDA64 for stress testing followed by a Fire Strike Benchmark.

    Usually, you will see your CPU temps go up dramatically when you approach the 3 minutes to 3 mins, 30 seconds in AIDA64 so that should give you an idea of what are the CPU temps under max load. I usually leave it for 5 minutes and that's it. Make sure your fans are on max blast while it's running

    I see. Okay then so there's no need to test it with other tests like OCCT and such? Also what do you suggest i use to set fan speed and fan curves? I've heard unsettling stories about the Msi dragon center so i haven't downloaded that yet.

    I don't touch a thing, I just install the Dragon Center and set the fans on Auto as they were designed to operate unless for a stress test, I press the button on the right of the Num Pad to set it to max speed as the CPU temp rises too fast so better keep them running at max speed.

    I did write a very simple code using Eigen library using hints provided by @sagarbhathwar. Its very simple in fact, for starters I'm using a dataset of 4096 and matrix multiplication with each matrices set to value 1.
    The test ran for 6 mins with CPU temps at 85C at 100% load. If you amp it up to 8192 dataset using random numbers, the test took my CPU to 88C-90C on stock fans and 75C on HWINFO fans and 2G-4G of RAM.
    @unclewebb: Are you interested to include a simple stress test like this? Then again, I'll PM it. You can try in your IDE VS 2010.

    Prime95 will push your quad core to the limit. If your CPU does not thermal throttle with Prime95, most games will not come close unless the games heat up your GPU and the GPU heat is transferred to your CPU.

    Okay so i've set a -160mv undervolt and i've done 3 hours worth of ada64 testing and everything is stable. Temps are about 75C on average across all 4 cores. This is with stock fan speeds. I haven't touched anything in regards to fans.

    Now when i run OCCT cpu test, after running for 5-6 minutes, i get
    "Core 2 over maximum value ! " Value reached 86, max Value 85" and the test stops. That's concerning. I'll set the fans to max and try again. So many people on these forums say that occt and prime95 are not realistic to real world loads. Should i be worried?

    Your screenshot shows that your laptop manufacturer ignored Intel's recommended PROCHOT setting of 100°C and decided to go with 95°C instead. OCCT has decided to ignore both of these values and pulled a number out of its hat and is warning you that 85°C is a temperature to be concerned about. Listen to Intel. They know what temperature their CPUs are capable of running reliably at.

    No. Your laptop manufacturer has set a 5°C offset in the bios. You would need a modified bios to take care of that.

    Remember no bench test or stress test will fully tell you if the undervolt is stable. Gotta use your laptop day to day and you will see if it is really stable. I had prime95 running for 1 hour with no crashes. XTU stress test no issues. I played sc2 for 10 minutes and my laptop rebooted.

    I would just simply like to thank @ unclewebb for his long term support to this amazing software... I'm using it since the 4th generation [4700MQ] Lenovo G510 laptop and it kept my old laptop cooled it enough through all this time & gaming

    but now I'm using ASUS ROG GL552VX with 6th Gen Skylake [6700HQ] and undervolted -170mv on CPU & cache CPU ... big difference on temperature from 84c to 72c! and the power consumption doesn't even cross the 25 watt under load and during idle it sits around 0.3~0.7 watts :) which it will help alot on battery ;)

    I have been using this program long time ago but I decided to create an account here & to thank you for that ;)

    Btw... I need to link you or aware you & others about this weird bug through my guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...s-broken-ht-on-laptops-pc-fix-is-here.806451/ my cpu was the affected ones and it got fixed & working like a charm... I felt smoother on operating & everything as it fixes other issues too ;)

    but anyway thank you @ unclewebb you rock! May God bless you on everything on your life :)

    Okay so got another issue today. I was going very stable at -170mv even after 4+ hours of occt and aida64. After that i decided to launch some games. Started with a lightweight game in Fifa17. 15 minutes in, my screen froze, the laptop got very hot, and it made this horrible buzzing noise. I had to power it off by holding the power button. The only crashes i've heard people have due to too much undervolting was a BSOD or rebooting, so this was a surprise.

    Is this problem related to the undervolt or is it something to do with the 1060 overheating possibly? Has anyone experienced this before? @unclewebb

    When the laptop gets very hot... the CPU will try to lower the voltage more to prevent increasing heat and to cool down a little so.... I believe that it is due to too much undervolt (with the CPU lower voltage automatic mechanism) ....so I suggest to try -160mv or -165mv and try again and see if it is stable enough or not ;) testing will never say( you are 100% stable) real world usage is a must to be able to say that (it is stable enough). I believe that the buzzing noise (without BSOD or reboot) leads to that the voltage are not enough to the CPU when the CPU gets hot with GPU so it needs a little bit increase on voltage. Because If you got BSOD or Rebooting then it means that you need a major voltage increase to get the CPU stable while freezing or Buzzing noise or even a very very little bit of lagness then it means that you need a minor increase on voltage ;)

    So what I am saying is that you are very close to find a sweet spot for undervolting your CPU. :)

    Other than that... check your GPU temprature while gaming as it may also be the reason of your freezing or buzzing sound :).

    Those sign & symptoms are common either too much undervoltage or it is something related to GPU (bad drivers, bad VBIOS or temprature problem).

    I hope I helped :).

    Hello @unclewebb , really thank you for this very handy program. Everything works perfectly fine at my Desktop (core i7 4770K) and at my laptop (core i5 6200U) and i am really grateful for this :) . Just out of curiosity i tried to set the Core and Cache voltage offset of a Xeon E5-2683 v4 and although it detects correctly that the CPU has the feature of Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator (FIVR) when i press the button and switch to the corresponding window the option Unlock Adjustable Voltage is grayed out.

    [IMG]

    I know that this could be a BIOS problem (Dell PowerEdge R730) but could you help me sort this out or give me any hints?!

    Once again thanks for this utility :)

    Can RAM getting very hot caused BD PROCHOT? I was running OCCT for a long time (large data set) when I noticed BD PROCHOT in Throttlestop. According to HWINfo my RAM don't have temp sensors so is this the MBoard signaling it because the RAM is getting very hot?

    The instructions were very clear - thanks! However, one link to the AMD file goes nowhere. The other links I could find lead to a file:
    amd-ucode-latest.tar.bz2, and Express Zip thinks it is incompatible or corrupted. You are right in that the program won't run without both AMD and Intel files. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help, Joe

    Try this Skylake / Kaby Lake Hyper-threading bug
    Simply unzip it, enter the passcode mentioned in the post and right click on install.bat and hit run as admin, you'll see a prompt hit yes and after installing the uCode simply reboot.
    Note: You can use HWINFo to check revision in system summary or under CPU.

    Hey guys.I just now know about undervolting.so I am planning to undervolt my laptop dell 5537.the specs are i7 4500u,8gb ram,amd 8850m.so It would be very helpful for me if anyone who has attempted to undervolt this processor could give me the values.I am ready to test the value by myself too.i know it's safe to undervolt core but what about cache and graphics? .so that's why I am not testing.is it necessary to reduce cache and graphics too i am so confused in this.being ULV processor will I achieve any significant temp change to processor usage.i usually play games so that's why I am asking this.Is it worth undervolt this cpu?please help me

    As @Vasudev said here :)
    And Also thanks for informing me... I will update the link on my guide ;)

    Edit:- @Jdpurvis link has been updated on my guide & also I gave a mirror link in case the first one got malfunctions ;)

    You can use my guide or the one that @Vasudev said :) but I always prefer to follow my guide as the CPU bug problem will only be fixed with specific skylake cpu with the codes that I mentioned on my guide other than that.. updating won't give any benefit if you got different codes :) but also it won't harm either ;)
    After you have checked that your CPU is the affected ones (with the same code that I mentioned on my guide) then you can simply use the @Vasudev method ;)

    Nice.
    For those on Linux irrespective of distros, I'll copy/paste the perl script written by Uwe Kleine:
    ----Code starts here : Copy the code from next line until the last flower brace-----
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    # Copyright 2017 Uwe Kleine-König

    open(my $cpuinfo, "</proc/cpuinfo") or die "failed to open cpuinfo\n";

    my $cpunum, $vendor, $family, $model, $stepping, $microcoderev, $hyperthreading;

    while (<$cpuinfo>) {
    if (/^$/) {
    print "cpu $cpunum: ";
    if ($vendor eq "GenuineIntel" and $family == 6) {
    if ($model == 78 or $model == 94) {
    if ($stepping eq "3") {
    print "Your CPU is affected, ";
    if (hex($microcoderev) >= 0xb9) {
    print "but your microcode is new enough\n";
    } elsif ($hyperthreading ne "on") {
    print "but hyper threading is off, which works around the problem\n";
    } else {
    print "you should install the latest intel-microcode\n";
    }
    } else {
    print "You may need a BIOS/UEFI update (unknown Skylake-Y/H/U/S stepping)\n";
    }
    } elsif ($model == 85 or $model == 142 or $model == 158) {
    print "You may need a BIOS/UEFI update (Kaby Lake, or Skylake-X processor)\n";
    } else {
    print "You're likely not affected\n";
    }
    } else {
    print "You're not affected\n";
    }

    $cpunum = undef;
    $vendor = undef;
    $family = undef;
    $stepping = undef;
    $microcoderev = undef;
    $hyperthreading = undef;

    next;
    }

    $cpunum = $1 if /^processor\s*:\s(.*)/;
    $vendor = $1 if /^vendor_id\s*:\s(.*)/;
    $family = $1 if /^cpu family\s*:\s(.*)/;
    $model = $1 if /^model\s*:\s(.*)/;
    $stepping = $1 if /^stepping\s*:\s(.*)/;
    $microcoderev = $1 if /^microcode\s*:\s(.*)/;

    if (/^flags\s*:/) {
    if (/^flags\s*:.*\bht\b/) {
    $hyperthreading = "on";
    } else {
    $hyperthreading = "off";
    }
    }
    }
    ----code ends here-----
    SAve the above script into a perl script with extension pl named according to user's choice. For example I name it as htbug.pl saved into desktop.
    Next open terminal pointing to desktop directory and type this command: perl htbug.pl
    If you see the message you're affected use OP's guide to fix it. Otherwise simply ignore it, if you're unaffected.

    I don't know if you remember me but I had some issues with PowerCut , I have an i5 4210u and I had the right µcode 0X1C but i just couldn't just make it " enabled " it was always disabled when i had VCCIN volt at 1.75 and it's the same higher but at the moment i reduced the voltage it became enabled , I am using now 1.7070 V and it's always " Enabled " now , and i took a looooooooooong time to figure out how to make it actually work , it only and like i just said ONLY work when i open throttlestop at the moment i can start moving my mouse in the desktop and I know it works because the tdp is always stuck between 1.3 W and 1.9 W

    At the end PowerCut final worked for me , I just had to use a smaller voltage than the recommanded one and I hope this might help others users that couldn't get PowerCut enabled

    I used your guide to determine that my processor was affected - then used Vasudev's easy path to update. Many thanks to you both for your hard work and help [+rep to both]. And, of course, to UncleWebb for TS. Best, Joe

    Always when you have the lower voltage the lower temprature the more battery juice you will have ;) so undervolting will benefit you by one way or another.

    I can't say specific values for your CPU... every CPU is different than others but I can suggest to start to try this:-
    Undervolt CPU to -40 mv and test your cpu under load and at light load too If all stable then try the next one which is CPU Cache undervolt it to -25mv and test and the same for graphics ;)

    Whenever your system is stable then try to undervolt more until it gets unstable (example:- BSOD, Freezing, rebooting) once you are unstable.... try to increase your voltage a little to be on the safe side :)

    Remember I said (I can suggest) I didn't say (You must) , it all depends on your CPU binning and how it can handle undervolting.

    Note:- I am not reponsible for any kind of damage or mistakes (you did it by your own hands) not me :)

    You quoted the exact same thing twice and didn't ask anything.
    What were you trying to ask?
    Go back to your post and edit it and remove the quoted text.

    hey guys
    okay so i found a stable undervolt of -155mv after a few days of testing. I went to task scheduler and set up throttlestop to run at log on like suggested by @illuzn
    However the settings are not sticking. Everytime i open the laptop or after a restart, the undervolts are set back to default. I've not installed XTU before so that can't be the problem. I did have the MSI dragon center which uses intel xtu i believe. Is that the problem?
    Do i remove both throttlestop and the dragon center both and install throttlestop first to make the settings stick?
