I have the same CPU, and I am able to override the long term power limit with TS, see the pic:
![]()
But there is a twist: my laptop has an nVidia G840M dedicated GPU, and to be able to override the power limit, it's drivers has to be installed, and the it can't be disabled via the device manager (so basically optimus has to be enabled, althrough the GPU don't have to be utilized)
But things aren't this simple...
As soon as i disable the GPU in the device manager, no matter the settings in TS (or any messing with MSR-s), nor custom TDP configs I make in the UEFI BIOS, long term power limit is locked to 15W.
Also as soon as the nVidia GPU gets utilized, the power limit gets locked back to 15W., and other strange things happen.
So the situation is Intel definately gave free hand to the manufacturers, even with the long term power limits, but as usual they cripple the hardware unnecesarrily, and we have to find workarounds to be able to fully utilize the hardware we paid for![]()

Very impressed with how it's works so far, I got it down to 1.0v for 4GHz, which is INSANE.
One question: I can't get it to minimize to tray, it stays in the taskbar even with "minimize on close" checked in options.Attached Files:

I moved this to the main screen to make it easier to find but so far, that's not working.
Always nice to see someone with a desktop Intel CPU having fun with ThrottleStop. Thanks for the feedback.
ThrottleStop needs a few minor tweaks to properly support the new 6th Gen CPUs. Hopefully next time you upgrade, there will be a new version waiting for you. -

The better result if you can overclock further as it seems most of them cant go stable > 4.5 GHz
For example mine i7-4900MQ can run at 3.8 (stock freq) even with significantly lover voltage 0.99 (10% less than stock) ... but cant run 4.0 even at higher than stock voltage (hang approximately once 15 minutes).
Anyway even it would be possible to run 4.5 GHz - I'd prefer run stock as there are no additional "thermal space", processor may run too hot if all 4 cores running 3.8, but running well at 3.5 GHz.
Of course this is not about "desktop" system ... you can afford better cooling system while mine upgrade limited to better thermalpaste -
I can get 3.5GHz 4-core frequency at 0.9976v stable (your 4900MQ runs at 3.6GHz on 4 cores, not 3.8; there is a big difference) as well. Doesn't mean I can OC it and keep it; I need 1.085v for 3.8GHz on 4 cores and even higher for 3.9GHz -
@lakondas Your probably using cTDP up but the manufacturer has possibly skimped on the power delivery and not allowing you to run full power for the CPU and GPU.
@vas VID's stop increasing at default for higher multi's. For higher clocks use fixed voltage are adaptive with interpolation where your Vcore is set to desired voltage minus offset. For instance if you are running a -50mV offset and need 1.2V for the highest clock then core voltage should be set to 1.25V -
-
these 0.2GHz (5%) doesn't worth more than 20% raise of power consumption and thermal throttling as side effect. Which means even it can run 4.0 (+5% perf) for 10-20 sec, under longer load it will cause worse performance drop ...
I'd better live with stock frequency and undervolt
Side effect of undervolt - it can run all 4 cores a t 3.5GHz without overheat -
not sure if its me, or the new notebookreview has changed so much i dont even know how to send people PM lol. unclewebb, is there any chance going forward in future that throttlestop will support dual cpu? ie workstation xeons.

yea i do plan to get E5 2600 v4/v5. v4 out end of this year early next year and v5 is in 2017 though.. when i get them i'll test them with throttlestop for sure and let u know. -
ThrottleStop 8.00 had improved support for some of Intel's Xeon monsters but feedback has been limited.

I would be motivated to add new features if my email box had more screenshots like that. A suggested retail price of $7174 is beyond my budget.

Maybe I could mortgage the house and get a pair of them for testing purposes. I will tell the wife it was for a good cause.TomJGX likes this. -

I checked the OP but couldn't find an answer. Unclewebb is there anyway to send you a donation?

@Dodoman - Thanks for your consideration but asking users to financially support ThrottleStop is against NBR forum policy. I might put a price tag on ThrottleStop someday so save your money just in case that happens in 2016.

How to get ThrottleStop working again after premature expiry?
I started trying ThrottleStop 8.00 beta 2 on a Lenovo T450s (i7-5600U) a few days ago...just as I got some idea on how it works, I rebooted... and now ThrottleStop tells me it is expired. I downloaded the beta again, owerwriting the previous installation (I only had it for a few days), but it still says that the trial period has expired. How to get it working again, if possible? There is no later version, as far as I know.
It seems to be a really nice program, I got great preliminary results on this laptop. A big thank you for the developer unclewebb!

Thank you very much, D2 Ultima!
That worked - I did not realize that I can return to current time after starting ThrottleStop!
Did not want to change time, because I have other software, that does not work unless system time is the actual time/date. Now, I can start those after returning to current time...
Thanks again!

Hey Unclewebb I just got an expired notice - 1st of October I guess. I can't seem to find a link to a new Beta, or a full 8.0? Just curious what I can do since I use TS regularly. Awesome software, thanks for you efforts!

Help me
I can not run Throttlestop on my tablet Slate 2 from HP with Atom Z670 (codename Lyncroft) at 1.50 GHz CPU . Throttlestop v8.0 can not run for Atom cpu ?. I 'm using Crystalcpuid software but I think it is not good as Throttlestop -

In most cases Windows will block these programs (or part of modules) until user confirm that he trust these files which came from internet.
To unlock files just go to file properties and press unlock button on some of the property tabs (don't remember exact flow)7564321 likes this. -
P.P I make version 6.00 of ThrottleStop to work, I put .exe file from ThrottleStop 6.00 on my existent merged ThrottleStop 8.00-RealTemp Folder. -
8.00 beta 2 expired for me. Link doesn't work. I guess I'll just stick it out til the next beta.
Throttlestop dude, thanks for all your work. -

Have to stop using TS because of expiration ...
Unfortunately don't have an option to change time without impact on some apps I'm running on my laptop.
Looking forward for new version soon -
oh no expired throttlestop
damnit!!!

Dear Unclewebb, I humbly await the next release. would love to buy you a coffee!
EDIT: I just searched the entire thread for a paypal link, but couldn't find one. I finally setup a paypal account, please link me so i can make a small contribution.

Expired for me too. WTF is this? It doesn't even offer me to purchase it (isn't it free btw?) or any solution just sends to the techpowerup homepage. I don't get it.

1. Only when you loose something you understend how you need it.
Expiration date is good thing even for free programs. Don't like to wait a week every year? Well... good donation strategy would be.
2. If you can afford it... what stops you from PM about donation link request? Definitely NOT rules/moderators. -

I'm of course patiently waiting for this new version that looks amazing by the way. What I noticed in the meantime is that although Throttlestop beta says it's expired, at least it does trigger the power-config that I had it set to. So running it still puts me into high-performance mode even though the program quits after telling me it's expired. So it's not a massive issue for those that need it for proper performance.

I am using Throttlestop to prevent my Lenovo Laptop from overheating(setting the turbo multipliers 300MHZ lower). It lowers temps by at least 10 degrees Celsius (laptop can therm-o-throttle otherwise hits 87 degrees C) . It would be nice to purchase throttlestop and not have the timed expiration.
I tried downloading throttlestop 6 but that gave me an error message of "CPU not supported" (I have a Broadwell CPU)
Setting the time back does not work because my Adobe Photoshop software says "Subscription expired" plus the time stamp on my photos will be wrong when downloading them to my laptop.
My only option now is to to use the Lenovo Power Manager and turn CPU turboing off completely.
My laptop is used for Photography in the field. -

I mean, your date does not need to be set back indefinitely... only to launch TS8.alexhawker and Mr Pras like this.
