I think it downscales to 1600MT/s but the timings also go down, so that's nice. i think davidrickardo knows which modules are best, so ask him. I am not sure about overclocking the CPU, here are defenitly options for it in the Overdrive, but people say AMD locked the CPU so it's impossible. SC2 runs at about 30fps with high settings at 1366X768, not sure about the A8, butould be close.

    Edit:
It runs at 23fps on A8, might be faster with newer drivers.
It is very CPU limited, if you manage to find and lower CPU intensive settings, and increase GPU ones it will most likely run much faster.

I'm wondering this myself. I'm in the market for a tablet (7") and would've like to have been able to buy a Hondo tablet (up to 10") running x64 Windows 7/8. I'm going to have to settle with a Asus Nexus 7 for now.

I did the A6 -> A10 swap on a g4-2235dx earlier this month. See my previous posts in this thread for 3DMark Vantage and 11 scores.

As far as we could tell, there's no difference at all between the 2235 and the 2275.

Fujitsu is the only one with a Hondo tablet. Probably see a lot more after CES in January, soon, with the next chip dual core Temash. Kabini, Temash's bigger quad brother will probably outo the current A4/A6 line.

Also don't forget about ebates if you have patience. 2.5% cash back at tiger direct. That'd be an extra $11 off. At least it's something. :)

If it was $400 out the door that would be the best. But still a good deal considering the performance.

That Acer has been $399 on Tigerdirect for over a month now, but I don't think it's a good deal since it's an Acer and you can find an ASUS with an A8 for $379.

    Seams the price went back up o $399 ASUS K55N-RIN4 Laptop Computer - AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M 1.9GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium at TigerDirect.com

A similar model (slightly heavier?) on bestbuy for $349 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+K-Series+15.6%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+4GB+Memory+-+500GB+Hard+Drive+-+Indigo/Light+Indigo/6940249.p?id=1218816101846&skuId=6940249&st=3_Day_Sale_Computing_69764&cp=1&lp=11#tab=specifications

Pretty much what I was thinking. I'm always a little extra cautious with Acer/Gateway (as well as HP) consumer notebooks. Their business line should be better as are most other OEMs. The Asus might be a tab bit better but these are still ~$400 notebooks and otherwise not much is different. Unless I'm wrong and since Asus makes their own motherboard and components and is more vertically integrated than Acer.

Typical, MSI GX60 review from notebookcheck

Merry Christmas from Texas, y'all :hi2:

this will add no real value, but the tablet commentary triggers me: we [the whole tech world] need a lot of windows-rt porting to the good SoC's that are abundant and fast-revving these days. battery life, graphics performance [hdwe decoding/accel] weight, display integration [hi quality]...
I hope amd can make the transition - obviously nvidia played their cards to perfection thus far

First time I have seen the P585, but the problem is the NewEgg model is a Z585, which has been out for a really long time (first Trinity laptop if I'm not mistaken) and now it is already discontinued. I didn't find any pictures of P585 on Lenovo website, and at that price it feels like a cheaper version of Z585, which arguably had a premium build quality.

Rarely, if ever. For most users, it makes little difference - the main factor is quantity, not quality - but systems that will be running graphically-challenging applications on integrated graphics will benefit from faster memory.

Faster RAM might help IGP performance 5-10% depending on the speed but the APU is limited by 1600MHz RAM anyhow. Tighter timings (lower CAS) may help a bit, but only 5% or so. So for the most part stock RAM is likely perfectly fine and not worth the upgrade.

I need some help with Data Migration. For some reason the back of the SSD box includes Data Migration Software, but on the CD there is only Warranty info and Magician Software. Magician Software has a Clone Disk feature that links to Norton Ghost, but the trial version of that doesn't allow Drive Cloning. Before I buy anything I want to know which is better and at what price.

Also the SSD, even though connected to Laptop using SATA III to USB3 adapter cable, does not appear in Computer in Windows 8 but it is visible in Add Devices and it indicates that the Drive is working properly. Am I supposed to initialize it or something manually? Windows 8 has a Drive partitioning feature which tells to initialize a Drive when the SSD is connected, and is it possible to create a backup of the whole C: Drive on the SSD using W8 tools and then restoring it when Only SSD is used? If not what about Kaspersky.

Wow. Hopefully 13", looks like backlit keyboard, and hopefully A8-4555m at least. I doubt they'll put a 35W APU in that thin of form factor.

You don't need to initialize the drive. I'm guessing it's not showing up because there's no partitions on it. Windoze disk manager will let you create a partition and format it, but you don't need to.

EaseUS Todo Backup has the disk and partition cloning (with resizing) features you probably are looking for, and included in the 15 day free trial.

Nice find! Probably ULV Trinity. Maybe Samsung saw what Asus is doing with the U38N and decided it needed to step up its game! Can't wait to see/hear more juicey details on this.

Still faster and cheaper than most E-450 and E2-1800 ultraportables. Single channel memory unfortunately for all, still better gpu too. Price is good.

Based on the fact that Series 7 is mainly about performance, my best guess is a 14'' with at least an A10 and at least 1600X900 screen.

    After seeing the video more carefully, I would assume it is an 15.6" laptop;

And if Series 7 is the performance segment, than should come with A10-4600M. Maybe a new APU will be introduced in it? Richland APU?...

You're right, looks like a 15.6" judging by that keyboard (numeric keypad). But the APU shown looks like the ULV kind. This notebook looks like a bigger "better" version of the NP535U4C. It wouldn't surprise me if they did put an ULV trinity apu in a chassis this big. Similar to the E-series 15.6" notebooks... (shudders) :sly:

I downloaded EaseUS Todo Backup Free 5.3 and It can't clone the Drive, and when I try Partition Cloning It only sees the C: Drive. Only in the Create Bootable Disk option do I see the Samsung 840 Pro SSD through USB option. Should i do that or try initializing the SSD first and then see if I can clone it.

I hope so. In addition to the backlit keyboard, itd be nice if it came with a 1080p IPS (optional touch) display, dual channel ram upgrade-able to 16GB+, and 2 SATA3 (6gbps) connectors for mSATA and 2.5" bay, or maybe just SATA2 thru an optical bay. You can see the left-side standard sized I/O ports (no adapters needed for vga, hdmi, usb, ethernet, audio in/out) and it looks good(i didn't see the right-side).

Hmm. Does your device have an eSata port that you can hook it up to? If not, you might be stuck either doing a fresh install (You can find the install media, and the product key is stored in the BIOS for win8.).
I did neglect to mention the only time I used it was through an eSata port, not a usb3->Sata device.

Bottom line is that it is a nice all around laptop, however GPU is severely gimped by only having a single RAM slot so GPU performance will be 30-40% less than it should be. It is still a bit shy of the Intel HD 4000 performance (with Intel using dual channel RAM). It handles HD video just fine too. You will void your warranty if you decide to update the RAM or hard drive. However it does have a free mSATA port if you so desire. The hard drive is 7mm thick not standard 9.5mm so something else to consider. Most SSD's come in 7mm flavor, but you can also get an mSATA SSD, otherwise 500GB will be the largest HDD you will be able to get for now since that is the largest that is offered in a 7mm.

I actually managed to initialize the SSD and create a Volume on it as a D: Drive, even after that EaseUS Partition Cloning does run but keeps failing after completing all the steps before the writing process. Only when it is supposed to copy the drive it shows error messages. I think this is a Software Issue as Windows 8 itself managed to initialize and format the drive. What I am staring to think is that cloning only works if your drives are connected to SATA an only Data Migration works through USB.

I'm afraid the only choice I have left right now is to buy Norton Ghost since it's the recommended software, and Samsung even gives it for free if you buy SSDs with upgrade kits (I think there are only regular 840s with upgrade kits right now and they cost extra), and then if that doesn't work contact Samsung.

Thanks for the review - I have to agree with your comments that it barely beats an E-350 though. What is AMD/Lenovo thinking???

With lower power platforms ALL the tricks need to be used: dual channel RAM, effective air cooling that will allow the cpu to at least hit the max Turbo consistently and constantly and most important of all? Easy access to replace RAM, HDD/SSD/mSATA drives and wireless components without needing a computer repair shop's equipment nor 'guarantee coverage'.

I appreciate your review a lot - but this system would have been returned in less than 6 hours if I had picked it up 'to try'.

Happy New Year to one and All!

At Amazon.com I've read about my Samsung, that Series 5 535 includes award-winning Intel Wireless Display functionality, which enables me to enjoying great image clarity and sound on your HDTV without plugging in any cables.
Does that really work well with movies and games too? If so what kind of television do I need?

Is that the Trinity version you have? If it is I doubt that it has WiDi. Actually I read on Intel's website that iGPU sends the display signal to the Intel Centrino Wireless Receiver, which does all the work necessary to transfer the Signal to another WiDi capable devise. It uses Miracast, but on the intel website only a few devices such as some LG and Toshiba TVs and a few TV adapters support it. A first i thought it used Wifi Direct, but i did not see a mention of that on the Intel website, nor is there a mention of DLNA. I know Samsung TVs have both DLNA and Wifi-Direct. I have Samsung software on my Glalaxy S3 (a hacked Tablet version) that lets me Watch whatever the TV is showing on my phone (mirror mode), all i need to do is connect both my phone and my Smart TV to the same network (i think it uses DLNA). I can also connect directly to my TV using Wifi-Dirct, which doesn't use WLAN, to send pitures or Videos to the TV, in fact it can DROP the wifi connection to the router if Wifi-Direct is on. i think intel uses one of this methods, just not sure which.
